Download MP3[00:00:02] - [Speaker 0]
Alright.
[00:00:10] - [Speaker 1]
Welcome chat gamers of all stripes and types and everybody else. Welcome to retro revenge, retro I think it's retro party night, guess, where we are celebrating anything before the year February because nostalgia sells these days and I just bought a third Dance Dance Revolution cabinet and those are very hard to keep in tune. So, yeah, let the Thank you. Thank you. Jerry.
[00:00:43] - [Speaker 1]
Right?
[00:00:43] - [Speaker 0]
I'm sorry, Jeff. Yeah. Yes. Hi,
[00:00:46] - [Speaker 1]
Jeff. Hi, Jerry. How's it going? Yeah. No.
[00:00:48] - [Speaker 1]
I'm I'm Jeff Monin. I'm your host. I've got our two contestants here. We've got we've got Jerry who I don't he must have must have sold his chair in order to get that suit. But real real glad to real glad you're here.
[00:01:04] - [Speaker 1]
And we we've got Aaron as well. Welcome. How's it going?
[00:01:11] - [Speaker 0]
What?
[00:01:12] - [Speaker 1]
Are hi. Are you
[00:01:14] - [Speaker 0]
Aaron, say hi. Aaron, say hi.
[00:01:16] - [Speaker 2]
Remember? Oh. Yeah. So sorry, guys.
[00:01:19] - [Speaker 0]
I just woke up.
[00:01:19] - [Speaker 1]
Greetings. Hi. Yes. Hello.
[00:01:22] - [Speaker 2]
Hi. Sal you sal you salamanders.
[00:01:25] - [Speaker 1]
Salamander salutations. Son of a bitch. Okay. Well, no. It's real real great to, to be doing this, trivia show with y'all.
[00:01:35] - [Speaker 1]
And, you know, before we get to know our contestants and give them a chance to understand where they are and what's going on, let's let's load the game a little bit with some loading questions. So a little bit about how the game is played. We have some trivia questions for you about about video games, about things around video games. Most of it takes place before the year February. If it's after that, it's incidental and I had nothing to do with it anyway.
[00:02:00] - [Speaker 1]
But there are questions to answer and there are there's gonna be a follow-up question to each one of them. We're gonna give you steelbook points. They're a lot like steelbook cases. They look nice. They feel nice on the shelf, but they're ultimately just for you to feel good about it.
[00:02:15] - [Speaker 1]
And maybe someone will want them from you. And maybe you can get something out of it. But, I'll let you decide what that means for you. But you gotta get the question right first. If you wanna buzz in I don't know.
[00:02:25] - [Speaker 1]
Do we have buzzers? Just
[00:02:28] - [Speaker 0]
Loud and clear, Jeff. Loud and clear over here.
[00:02:31] - [Speaker 1]
Yes.
[00:02:31] - [Speaker 0]
On the on the West Coast.
[00:02:33] - [Speaker 1]
Yeah. No. And you you're giving yourself a handicap over here. Like, you're you're trying to drop down onto it. Like, you you don't What's what's
[00:02:38] - [Speaker 0]
up? What's happening?
[00:02:39] - [Speaker 1]
You wanna stay in front of the microphone? Is this is this a Canadian thing?
[00:02:44] - [Speaker 0]
I'm I'm sorry. I I I am I not in I could get down Okay.
[00:02:48] - [Speaker 1]
You're in frame. You're in frame. You're in the microphone. How how how are your knees doing right now?
[00:02:53] - [Speaker 0]
Bad. Real bad. I can't do that
[00:02:55] - [Speaker 1]
real bad. Might want to find a simple mechanism to help that.
[00:03:00] - [Speaker 0]
Oh. It's probably let me take like, let me just take one of these off because then that way I'll be able
[00:03:07] - [Speaker 1]
to hear you a little better. That's certainly
[00:03:09] - [Speaker 0]
How do I sound now?
[00:03:11] - [Speaker 1]
You you know what? Like patch notes that explain nothing. We fix we fix some issues, and maybe we'll see if we run a little better. But let's okay. Yeah.
[00:03:22] - [Speaker 1]
Oh. You know what? That's an adjustment to there you go. Can can
[00:03:26] - [Speaker 2]
Here we go.
[00:03:27] - [Speaker 1]
Can you hear me from up there? Can I hear you from up there? And we've got the same We're going.
[00:03:32] - [Speaker 0]
We're going with it. Here we go.
[00:03:34] - [Speaker 1]
There there I'm I'm I'm proud of you. No points for that, but you know what? Now we can get started. So Alright. It's it's you you know you know what?
[00:03:45] - [Speaker 1]
Now everything's zeroed out. You know, zero points at the moment for both for both Jerry and Aaron. But let's let's let's start with our first question here. What company held the patent for auxiliary games during loading screens?
[00:04:00] - [Speaker 0]
PlayStation.
[00:04:02] - [Speaker 1]
Aaron, did you buzz in, or are you saying you don't know?
[00:04:04] - [Speaker 2]
I I was trying
[00:04:06] - [Speaker 0]
to buzz in.
[00:04:06] - [Speaker 1]
Okay.
[00:04:07] - [Speaker 2]
Okay. Okay. Is is it is it Namco?
[00:04:11] - [Speaker 1]
That is correct. They are current, currently known as Bandai Namco, but at the time they were Namco. That is a point for Aaron. Fantastic. And as a steelbook case question, what year did that patent expire?
[00:04:27] - [Speaker 2]
02/2005.
[00:04:28] - [Speaker 1]
I'm sorry. It was 2015, but that's okay. You there's nothing lost or gained in that. Again, like all of those copies of Halo two that everybody bought day one because they thought that the steelbook would be worth a lot more. You know what?
[00:04:42] - [Speaker 1]
There's plenty more where that came from, but that is a point for you. Now onto our Thank
[00:04:46] - [Speaker 2]
you, Jeff. I love you, Jeff.
[00:04:49] - [Speaker 1]
Our next, we'll we'll finish up the loading round with, with another one. We'll, we'll we'll we'll specialize
[00:04:55] - [Speaker 0]
in bits. It's my turn now.
[00:04:57] - [Speaker 1]
It's it's you know what? It's for everybody. It's for everybody. You are in you're are you part of everybody?
[00:05:03] - [Speaker 0]
I am I am everybody. I I my mom told me I am everybody.
[00:05:07] - [Speaker 1]
You're everybody and you're nobody, and we are part of a great unconscious that is currently probably Okay. So the next question. Here, we just just buzz in. Give me an ant sound or something. Whoever I see making the sound first after I finish the question, I'm gonna say that's that's where we're going here.
[00:05:25] - [Speaker 0]
Oh, god. Okay. Got
[00:05:27] - [Speaker 1]
it. PS one's Boom Jammer Lammy would display a sequence of buttons while loading stages that you've already completed. When do you input these button presses? For a bonus Yeah. You ask Jerry?
[00:05:44] - [Speaker 1]
When do you do you do you have something for the class?
[00:05:49] - [Speaker 0]
I do. Yeah. It's on the screen when the words are happening.
[00:05:58] - [Speaker 1]
Actually, you know what? I'm gonna let you try to clarify that. What words?
[00:06:06] - [Speaker 0]
The English language.
[00:06:08] - [Speaker 1]
And what is that English language trying to tell us during that moment, Jerry? Help help me to help you.
[00:06:18] - [Speaker 0]
So, it's it's it's it's, like, it's songs that are in English on the screen if it's a North American copy. Then The
[00:06:27] - [Speaker 1]
lyrics are still in English in the Japanese version as well. So
[00:06:31] - [Speaker 0]
it's English all so okay.
[00:06:33] - [Speaker 2]
I skipped paying child support for this.
[00:06:36] - [Speaker 1]
You never know what the fabulous prizes are. You could win a VCR because we've got prizes from the eighties that have come back around to being valuable again, and that's why you gotta hoard people.
[00:06:45] - [Speaker 0]
They got VCRs. Holy shit.
[00:06:47] - [Speaker 1]
Got VCRs. Some of them were even attached to CRTs, which again, are pretty have come back around to valuable. They're not Trinitrons, but you know what you know what I mean. Anyway, so Okay. Alright.
[00:06:59] - [Speaker 1]
I
[00:07:00] - [Speaker 0]
Yeah. Words Words on the screen
[00:07:03] - [Speaker 1]
Mhmm.
[00:07:03] - [Speaker 0]
In in a rhythm. Uh-huh. And I'm now realizing that I'm just describing the game.
[00:07:10] - [Speaker 1]
You are in fact describing the game, and you're describing it in a way that is not incorrect, but it is incorrect for the context of this question. Those button presses that are put up in sequence, they sort of, you know, the the loading screen's got that kind of, chocolate bar motif and the buttons match, and there's little spaces in between them. When should you input that button sequence? Aaron, do you wanna do you wanna get this point? You wanna take a stab at it?
[00:07:39] - [Speaker 2]
When they line up,
[00:07:40] - [Speaker 0]
I I'm not sure. I I haven't played that game before.
[00:07:43] - [Speaker 1]
It's it's it's fine. It's quite alright. It is you know what? I'm gonna swap this around. We're we're we're figuring this out.
[00:07:49] - [Speaker 1]
We're loading up. Jerry, do you wanna take a guess at what those button presses do?
[00:07:59] - [Speaker 0]
They, they play instruments.
[00:08:03] - [Speaker 1]
Sort of. It does something that has a name. It activates something. What does it activate?
[00:08:11] - [Speaker 0]
What is, Dance Dance Revolution?
[00:08:14] - [Speaker 1]
Please don't answer this in the form of a question.
[00:08:16] - [Speaker 0]
Okay. Can I can I buy a vowel?
[00:08:21] - [Speaker 1]
Not from me. Okay.
[00:08:24] - [Speaker 2]
There's no chickens on the show, Jerry.
[00:08:26] - [Speaker 1]
Yes. I don't. It's it's
[00:08:29] - [Speaker 2]
Vowel. Vowel.
[00:08:30] - [Speaker 0]
I have never played on Jammer Lammy.
[00:08:32] - [Speaker 1]
That's that's fine. That's fine. That's this this one's for me. I really like the game and now I'm just a little sad, but that's fine. I've dealt with that before.
[00:08:45] - [Speaker 1]
When playing Jammer Lammy, much like when you play Parap of the Rapper, the Nana Un Sha game that most folks are familiar with, your how you do on the game is rated on a scale that is sort of just words. Great, cool, bad, awful, those sorts of things. Cool is what happens when you go a little off the beaten path and are allowed to just do what you want, to freestyle, to riff, to solo.
[00:09:09] - [Speaker 0]
So To noodle if you will.
[00:09:11] - [Speaker 1]
To noodle if you will. That's also a way to put
[00:09:15] - [Speaker 2]
our United Kingdom friends.
[00:09:17] - [Speaker 1]
Yes. There we go. It's a That's
[00:09:19] - [Speaker 2]
a thing.
[00:09:19] - [Speaker 1]
A sort of wood shedding as it were. It's Jerry, you were unfortunately incorrect because that is when the teacher, the master, the other NPC in the game says, wow, you're doing great. I'm going to leave the stage and let you go. So the English language stops specifically during cool mode, which is when you input the sequence of button presses and it activates something called fever mode where a whole kaleidoscope of colors slowly build in the background and you score a massive amount of points. And that is the answer to the question.
[00:09:55] - [Speaker 2]
This game sounds like just this or this game sounds just like that time. I did black tar acid. Pretty sweet. Know? This thing?
[00:10:04] - [Speaker 1]
You're you're you're starting to make a lot more sense, Aaron. More and more. And speaking of, that concludes the end of the loading round. So let's take a moment to to get to know our contestants a little bit. So, Aaron, how are you doing?
[00:10:17] - [Speaker 1]
Where are you from? What's your favorite console? What games do you poorly remember, but damn it Sister the best ever?
[00:10:25] - [Speaker 0]
Oh, man. I just woke up. My arthritis is acting up.
[00:10:28] - [Speaker 2]
I can feel it in my knees and my fingers, but I'm glad to be here, here to win that that seen it, BCR, TV combo. I'm a Jeff, I'm a really big fan of the GameCube and the Dreamcast. Love love them both.
[00:10:43] - [Speaker 1]
Easy to pirate.
[00:10:44] - [Speaker 0]
It's always nice.
[00:10:44] - [Speaker 2]
Tell you what. Yep. Yep. Love love RPGs though. Big RPG guy.
[00:10:50] - [Speaker 1]
Fantastic. Fantastic. Well, thank thank you so much for being here.
[00:10:53] - [Speaker 2]
Don't tell my ex wife, but I haven't paid my child support yet because I really want really wanna come onto the show.
[00:10:57] - [Speaker 1]
I I I am not a notary. I am not a lawyer. I am not legally beheld to anything but my contract. So your secret's safe with me. I can't guarantee anything for whomever is watching.
[00:11:09] - [Speaker 1]
Jerry.
[00:11:10] - [Speaker 2]
I'm telling everybody.
[00:11:11] - [Speaker 0]
I'm telling everybody. That's what
[00:11:12] - [Speaker 1]
I'm So now we're learning a little bit about Jerry. He's a bit of a squealer here. I see. He must be a lot of fun on voice chat.
[00:11:18] - [Speaker 0]
No. No. No. My mom, as I said, she once told me that I am everyone. As everyone told you that?
[00:11:31] - [Speaker 0]
I wasn't born yet. I heard her telling me that when I was in the, you know, in the in the sack or whatever they call it.
[00:11:37] - [Speaker 1]
In the what? Yeah. Those are all extremely medical terms to someone.
[00:11:44] - [Speaker 0]
Uh-huh. So for video games, I like Secret of Mana. I like Goemon. I've I don't say it enough. I don't think that I like Goemon, and I like games with cavemen in them, and I like Mario, and, I like the PlayStation library, and I like, I have a PS five, and, and I have proud
[00:12:05] - [Speaker 1]
of him.
[00:12:05] - [Speaker 0]
Have I have I have a dog named Joey.
[00:12:08] - [Speaker 1]
And he's Is Joey a gamer?
[00:12:10] - [Speaker 0]
No. He's he's, he's just a dog. And, he's
[00:12:17] - [Speaker 1]
Well, alright then. I think, we've got a great lineup going on here, and I think we are all feeling good about our command of games in the English language today. So let let's let's start a round of general questions here. Round of general questions. And I think, Aaron, this is gonna be a good one for you because it's about the GameCube.
[00:12:35] - [Speaker 1]
Fuck. The Capcom five was the name given to five titles developed by Capcom intended to be GameCube exclusives to show third party support. While there has been some discussion since the first announcement as to how exclusive each title was meant to be from the outset, one title still remains a GameCube exclusive. Which one is it?
[00:12:58] - [Speaker 0]
Is this just for Aaron?
[00:13:00] - [Speaker 1]
No. No. It's for both of you. You can absolutely buzz in if you know it. I just figured I was just pivoting off what he was That's how these back and forth goes.
[00:13:08] - [Speaker 1]
But, Jerry, do you do you wanna buzz in?
[00:13:11] - [Speaker 0]
Billy Hatcher.
[00:13:13] - [Speaker 1]
Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is a fantastic GameCube game, but it is not one of the Cap Con five. Oh.
[00:13:18] - [Speaker 0]
Fuck. Is it? Oh, wait. I can't recall
[00:13:24] - [Speaker 2]
some of the other ones. Is it beautiful Joe?
[00:13:27] - [Speaker 1]
Beautiful Joe is one of the Capcom five, but it was released on PlayStation two. Hola.
[00:13:32] - [Speaker 0]
That's what I thought. Dang it. I can't recall any other wait. It was Resident Evil zero? Skateboarding game?
[00:13:40] - [Speaker 0]
Go.
[00:13:41] - [Speaker 1]
It was not Resident Evil zero. Was that
[00:13:44] - [Speaker 0]
Was it was it a skateboarding game?
[00:13:48] - [Speaker 1]
It was not a skateboarding game. No. A skateboarding game. Okay. Mean, there were many of those of the time.
[00:13:54] - [Speaker 1]
It was very extreme. Those those
[00:13:55] - [Speaker 2]
There was
[00:13:56] - [Speaker 1]
those halcyon days. But it was not Resident Evil four. It was not Viewtiful Joe. It was not Killer seven, all of which were part of the Capcom five. The only GameCube exclusive of the five games that were announced all at once, getting that moniker, was PN o three, project number o three.
[00:14:17] - [Speaker 1]
And to complete the five can do that. Dead Phoenix was announced but was never released, which continues to be a great deal of disappointment to me as I love games that look like they could absolutely be Panzer Dragoon, which is what Dead Phoenix seemed to be, but it died a quiet, slow death that no one ever knew about. RIP. And it isn't spoken of. RIP, Dead Phoenix.
[00:14:37] - [Speaker 2]
Just just like my uncle who, who drunk drove his his old Chevy pickup truck into a ditch on a on a
[00:14:44] - [Speaker 0]
slimy hot Iowa summer day. RIP Uncle Jib.
[00:14:48] - [Speaker 1]
Sorry, Uncle Jib. Was the Chevy okay? We always need cars to give away his prizes.
[00:14:52] - [Speaker 2]
Oh, yeah. That thing could take a beating. It's alright.
[00:14:55] - [Speaker 1]
Fantastic. Fantastic. We'll talk more after the after the taping here. So our next question covers pinball. What beloved pinball table released in 1997 features the voice of Tina Fey?
[00:15:15] - [Speaker 1]
Yes, Jerry?
[00:15:17] - [Speaker 0]
The Addams Family?
[00:15:19] - [Speaker 1]
No. Is not the Addams Family. The Addams Family had voice samples from the actual cast of Addams Family, and some came in to record more. And, Tina Fey was not one of the actors in there. This is not
[00:15:31] - [Speaker 0]
Was it? Okay.
[00:15:32] - [Speaker 1]
I'll I'll help you out because you do see both of you seem a little rusty on pinball, and that's not meant as a pun, and I'm mad at myself for having made one. But it is not based on any particular property, although there were many of those at the time. This is the dot matrix era of pinball, but this was not any particular license. It can be gone
[00:15:55] - [Speaker 0]
on Jurassic Park.
[00:15:59] - [Speaker 1]
Based off the book Jurassic Park or the film that was based off of the book Jurassic Park or based off of the toy line based off of the film based off of the book Jurassic Park, not not a property at all?
[00:16:13] - [Speaker 0]
I I thought it would would have been based off the Sega Genesis version of Jurassic Park. That was a good one. I thought it might have been.
[00:16:20] - [Speaker 1]
You're absolutely right. It did marry together two different forms of gameplay there, but Tina Fey was also not part of that. She was not the Velociraptor.
[00:16:29] - [Speaker 2]
I'm just I'm tossing mean girls out there. I don't I'm not I don't know.
[00:16:33] - [Speaker 1]
Not not based off of any property. Not based off of any film, television, book, It is meant to be a very funny game. It can be bought digitally these days on Pinball FX. It's part of Williams Collection stuff. Oh.
[00:16:50] - [Speaker 0]
Is it Kiss Psycho Circus?
[00:16:52] - [Speaker 2]
It
[00:16:53] - [Speaker 1]
is not it is not based off of any band. It is not based off of any movie or book or television show. It is Medieval Madness. Oh.
[00:17:04] - [Speaker 2]
I never would have guessed that. Holy shit.
[00:17:06] - [Speaker 1]
Medieval Madness is the
[00:17:07] - [Speaker 0]
next one on my tongue. Was next one.
[00:17:11] - [Speaker 1]
Confidence has not wavered in your ability to have the correct answer waiting for you next. Medieval Madness is if you are absolutely. Absolutely, Jerry. I'm here for you.
[00:17:22] - [Speaker 2]
The Show me Tina Fey.
[00:17:24] - [Speaker 1]
If you've not if you've not seen anything about Medieval Madness, it is an absolutely fantastic table. It is considered one of the more highly sought after, not necessarily because of its rarity, but it's the same sort of rarity as why Pokemon games are still expensive because the people who have them do not want to give them up. The reason Tina Fey was part of one of the voices was in fact the voice of the princess who had been kidnapped by the Duke of Pain, the main villain. There was an actual plastic castle on the playfield that you would destroy over and over again to beat all of the Duke's various cronies, including the Earl of Ego, the Duke of Bourbon, and a few other ones that were rather fun that I'm a little off the top I can't remember off the top of my head, but all of them were voiced by fellow thirty Rock cast member and improv comedian Scott Adset. And they were both Chicago Second City comedians.
[00:18:14] - [Speaker 1]
And as a lot of pinball games are developed in Chicago, Scott was brought in to help out with some of the writing and some of the pieces there, and he brought in a fellow comedian to play the princess. And they just both happened to do very well after the fact.
[00:18:27] - [Speaker 0]
And so it's a fun little bit of trivia to find know that.
[00:18:31] - [Speaker 1]
And that is why
[00:18:32] - [Speaker 2]
I do like bourbon too, though.
[00:18:33] - [Speaker 1]
I do I do enjoy bourbon. He and the Duke of Bourbon loves And the Duke? He in fact says that several times when I when he's introduced. It is actually quite a very it it is a fun game. But let's Pinball isn't everybody's favorite, but let's let's move on to somebody who's got a little bit of a pinball aspect to them, Sonic the Hedgehog.
[00:18:54] - [Speaker 1]
While plenty of Sonic the Hedgehog titles have what's called auto running, where the camera follows Sonic and he moves as fast as possible and you are not in charge of his forward momentum at all. You're just sort of weaving him back and forth, side to side or anything else. There is only one title that has what most people think of as auto scrolling, where the player is still in charge of Sonic's forward momentum, but the level moves at its pace. Completely anathema to the idea of moving as fast as possible. There is a single stage in a single Sonic game that does this.
[00:19:30] - [Speaker 1]
What Sonic game is
[00:19:31] - [Speaker 0]
that? The bonus stage in Sonic two.
[00:19:40] - [Speaker 1]
Do you control his forward momentum in that? No. Is he moving, though?
[00:19:51] - [Speaker 0]
Side to side.
[00:19:54] - [Speaker 1]
Okay.
[00:19:55] - [Speaker 0]
The the the bonus stage in sonic three.
[00:19:58] - [Speaker 2]
Like, in the cylinder? The sonic
[00:20:00] - [Speaker 1]
two is in the cylinder. Sonic three. No. That that that's an excellent approximation. I would give you points for that, but I do not have points to get for that.
[00:20:10] - [Speaker 1]
This is it is not a special stage. It is not a bonus stage. Fuck. It is let let me help you out. It's a simpler game than that.
[00:20:24] - [Speaker 1]
Than Sonic two or Sonic three.
[00:20:29] - [Speaker 0]
Sonic Spinball?
[00:20:33] - [Speaker 1]
It is not Sonic Spinball. It is a mainline side scrolling Sonic title.
[00:20:40] - [Speaker 2]
Is it from the first first Sonic game? Sonic one? It's our Sonic the Hedgehog one.
[00:20:50] - [Speaker 1]
On which system?
[00:20:57] - [Speaker 2]
Master System.
[00:20:59] - [Speaker 1]
The first Sonic the Hedgehog on Master System? That's your answer?
[00:21:02] - [Speaker 0]
Yeah.
[00:21:03] - [Speaker 1]
Because that's the correct answer. Yes. That is Sonic Sonic the Hedgehog one on the the eight bit version on both Master System and Game Gear has a stage, a single stage that auto scrolls. For a Steelbook point Yes. What is the level?
[00:21:23] - [Speaker 0]
Wait.
[00:21:26] - [Speaker 2]
Oh, what is it called? The
[00:21:29] - [Speaker 1]
remember, this is Sonic one. They weren't very imaginative.
[00:21:35] - [Speaker 0]
I'm trying to think of
[00:21:36] - [Speaker 2]
what the heck this this second level, like, marble marble something or
[00:21:40] - [Speaker 1]
Second stage of, Marble Zone.
[00:21:43] - [Speaker 2]
Marble Zone. Yeah. Is it Marble Zone? Oh, it's
[00:21:45] - [Speaker 1]
not Marble Zone. It is Bridge Act 2. Is that is the stage. Man. The the the music for it is very catchy.
[00:21:54] - [Speaker 1]
It is often compared to a Janet Jackson track. I don't remember which one, and I don't wanna get anybody in trouble. How do you both feel? How do you boys feel about Mortal Kombat?
[00:22:04] - [Speaker 2]
I love it. Feel pretty good about Mortal Kombat.
[00:22:06] - [Speaker 1]
Alright. Alright. Mortal Kombat. Good. Fantastic.
[00:22:08] - [Speaker 1]
Good. Let's you know, this is still anybody's game because there's Aaron's only gotten two points here. So that's that's quite alright there. So the Mortal Kombat franchise. So so Mortal Kombat has had a lot of fighters, lot of combatants, a lot of characters come and gone.
[00:22:24] - [Speaker 1]
It's in fact featured a total of 77 playable combatants over its long history. Woah. That's not including variants, but yes, including palette swaps of ninjas because, you know, Sub Zero and Scorpion are two different characters even if it was the same actor being filmed. Let's just have a video game.
[00:22:41] - [Speaker 0]
But can we agree on something, Jeff?
[00:22:42] - [Speaker 1]
Jeff, if
[00:22:43] - [Speaker 0]
I may? You If I may,
[00:22:44] - [Speaker 1]
Jeff? You're you're already doing it. Go for it.
[00:22:47] - [Speaker 0]
Okay. If I may, Noob Saibot is the best of the ninjas.
[00:22:56] - [Speaker 1]
He certainly is the most shadowy. And so I will say he is at least one of the best. I don't have the time, the patience, nor the budget to define empirically. You are you know what, Jerry? I'm gonna give you that.
[00:23:12] - [Speaker 1]
You're absolutely correct. He's one of the ninjas and he is
[00:23:14] - [Speaker 0]
one the most ninjas. Can have point for that?
[00:23:16] - [Speaker 1]
Can I have Do you a steelbook point?
[00:23:21] - [Speaker 0]
I don't what do you
[00:23:23] - [Speaker 1]
Maybe you can get one here. Maybe you can get one here. Okay. Let's do total combatants over the whole history. No game has featured all of them.
[00:23:31] - [Speaker 1]
But which Mortal Kombat title boasts the largest roster? Yes, Aaron.
[00:23:37] - [Speaker 2]
Mortal Kombat Armageddon.
[00:23:40] - [Speaker 1]
That's absolutely correct. Mortal Kombat Armageddon. For a steal book point, How many combatants are in that title?
[00:23:51] - [Speaker 2]
Oh. Oh, I know I know this. I know this.
[00:23:53] - [Speaker 1]
There are two slots for customizable characters, and I will allow for that number or the number without. Either one. A
[00:24:04] - [Speaker 2]
fifty eight? Fifty eight for just, like, regular characters?
[00:24:08] - [Speaker 0]
Can we do prices write rules? Can I can I guess a number of whoever's closer?
[00:24:13] - [Speaker 1]
There will be a segment for that, but not now. Okay. Not That was that was that was a very good guess with the two rounding it out to 60. It was 62 with the additional two rounding it out to 64. You were very close, and you were correct with Armageddon.
[00:24:25] - [Speaker 1]
So that's fantastic. Now let's go you know what? It sounds like both of you are big fans of RPGs. So Yes. Let's Here we go.
[00:24:34] - [Speaker 1]
RPG question. Let's let's do an RPG question. I reckon are either toys. Are either of you familiar with Ultima?
[00:24:41] - [Speaker 2]
A little bit. Fuck. A little bit.
[00:24:44] - [Speaker 0]
Yeah, man.
[00:24:44] - [Speaker 2]
It's alright.
[00:24:45] - [Speaker 1]
It's alright. It's alright. This is
[00:24:46] - [Speaker 2]
one this is one of
[00:24:46] - [Speaker 1]
the bigger pieces. One of the bigger pieces. In Ultima, there is a spell that claims it, in a single casting, eradicates all life on the entire planet. What is the name of that spell? Holy.
[00:25:06] - [Speaker 1]
Oh. It is not holy. That would be a very fun flip on things. You also did not buzz in.
[00:25:11] - [Speaker 0]
No. I've also completely broken down
[00:25:13] - [Speaker 1]
the rules here.
[00:25:16] - [Speaker 0]
Was just saying bullshit. I'm I'm just trying to okay.
[00:25:20] - [Speaker 2]
I Jeff, that that spell sounds awesome as hell. I wanna go with doomsday. Doomsday.
[00:25:27] - [Speaker 1]
That is that is so evocative and very cool, but it is not what they call that spell. It it and it is a spell that if if it does if it does as it claims, shouting doomsday just sounds very cool, but it is putting together a series of runes. You know, Jared, do you wanna take one more stab at it?
[00:25:45] - [Speaker 0]
You know what, Jeff? I think I will. I think I will.
[00:25:48] - [Speaker 1]
Alright. Alright.
[00:25:49] - [Speaker 0]
Is it is it death? It
[00:25:52] - [Speaker 1]
is not death, but that is the name of others other spells. So you're you're no. Yeah. That's that's good thinking. That's great thinking there.
[00:25:59] - [Speaker 1]
This one was a little bit of a funny a funny bit for me because the answer for this is the same as the answer for the last. It's Armageddon. The spell is called Armageddon.
[00:26:11] - [Speaker 0]
Nice. Dang. You did there.
[00:26:12] - [Speaker 2]
Dang. We got close. We got we got
[00:26:14] - [Speaker 1]
You you got close. I mean, I guess those
[00:26:15] - [Speaker 2]
are all words for like apocalypse.
[00:26:17] - [Speaker 1]
No. You use doomsday, you use death, and like depending upon how the spells are, absolutely no. Armageddon, when cast, does in fact do do what it says and eradicates everyone except gods and other characters that are otherwise unkillable such as Lord British. So you do get a chance to, in some titles, walk through an entirely desolate dead world because it's not just human life, it is all life. And you get to talk to those NPCs and they get to have a very, for lack of a better term, realistic reaction to what you've done.
[00:26:49] - [Speaker 1]
And in fact, in one of the Ultima titles, casting Armageddon was crucial to completing your quest. But only because you'd set up a little wall around it so you only took out who was in that little shell. But I won't say which one for Sorry.
[00:27:05] - [Speaker 2]
There's a there's a
[00:27:06] - [Speaker 0]
little bit of lag on my end. Is it, is it Armageddon?
[00:27:16] - [Speaker 1]
You know what? It it it is Armageddon. I'm I'm you know what? I'll let you have that point. I'll let you have that one.
[00:27:24] - [Speaker 0]
Alright. You work on that lag.
[00:27:25] - [Speaker 1]
I'm not gonna accept anymore on that. We're gonna we're gonna we're gonna change gears a little bit. We're gonna change gears to a new category. This is more more about music in games and musicians and compositions. Uneracers.
[00:27:41] - [Speaker 1]
Uneracers is
[00:27:41] - [Speaker 2]
a fantastic title. For speed. It means need for speed, dude. It's got a little shot on the East Side, boys. Peak music.
[00:27:52] - [Speaker 2]
Whoops. Sorry.
[00:27:52] - [Speaker 1]
Well, and and and while the three of us look like absolutely any very sad college coffee house jam band on the Pacific Northwest, let's dive in to this next category. Quantic Dream, the developers of narrative titles like Detroit Become Human. Well,
[00:28:13] - [Speaker 2]
they've made
[00:28:13] - [Speaker 1]
a few titles. They've been at this for a little while. Their first title, published by Eidos, featured a character mo capped from their composer. And the composer was also a well known musician outside of video games. I'm going to This is be one where two questions.
[00:28:30] - [Speaker 1]
I'll give you a point for either one. If you get both, you get the steelbook. What is the game? Who's the composer? Yes, Jerry.
[00:28:39] - [Speaker 0]
The game is Indigo Prophecy.
[00:28:45] - [Speaker 1]
We need to go a little earlier than that. It's a
[00:28:47] - [Speaker 0]
little earlier than that. That's all. That's all. No. No.
[00:28:49] - [Speaker 0]
No.
[00:28:49] - [Speaker 1]
This is fine. This is fine.
[00:28:53] - [Speaker 0]
Is the is the composer is it Lil
[00:28:56] - [Speaker 2]
Jon on the East Side, boys? No.
[00:29:00] - [Speaker 1]
No, it's not. This this is a this was released in the Dreamcast era. Dreamcast and Windows, if that helps you with context.
[00:29:11] - [Speaker 0]
Indigo Prophecy was on Dreamcast?
[00:29:15] - [Speaker 1]
No. No. It wasn't. Alright, man.
[00:29:25] - [Speaker 2]
Okay. Just give it to Jerry. No. No. Wait.
[00:29:31] - [Speaker 2]
No. No. Is it is can we is is there, like, a hint system? Can I can I get, like, maybe a teeny weeny little hint? Like what kind of music do they play?
[00:29:43] - [Speaker 2]
Is it like like a, like a pretty well known artist around the time?
[00:29:46] - [Speaker 1]
I I would say, they were they had a long career before doing this, and they had a career afterwards as well. The the musician is no longer with us.
[00:29:59] - [Speaker 0]
Is it Prince? Michael Jackson.
[00:30:01] - [Speaker 1]
It is not Prince. Sorry, Aaron. You had a guess there?
[00:30:05] - [Speaker 2]
Yeah. Is it Michael Jackson?
[00:30:06] - [Speaker 1]
It's not Michael Jackson. They've been in other properties before and have been very notable in the ones they're in. Not video games, though. They've they've they've been in film.
[00:30:23] - [Speaker 2]
Tupac Shakur?
[00:30:24] - [Speaker 1]
Not Tupac Shakur. This is this is a they're a very theatrical musician.
[00:30:37] - [Speaker 2]
Is it, Williams?
[00:30:42] - [Speaker 0]
Who the fuck is that?
[00:30:44] - [Speaker 2]
Who the fuck is Williams?
[00:30:45] - [Speaker 1]
Is that a first name? Is that a last name? Is that Midway Williams?
[00:30:49] - [Speaker 0]
I just I just don't I just know I only know him as Williams. He does, like, the Star Wars movies stuff. When I see him
[00:30:57] - [Speaker 1]
on the screen John Williams.
[00:30:59] - [Speaker 0]
Yes. Williams?
[00:31:00] - [Speaker 1]
No. This This is
[00:31:01] - [Speaker 0]
Wayne Williams. Yep.
[00:31:02] - [Speaker 1]
This this is a pop music artist.
[00:31:05] - [Speaker 2]
Oh. Britney Spears.
[00:31:07] - [Speaker 1]
Pop rock. Popular music.
[00:31:08] - [Speaker 0]
Alive, I think.
[00:31:10] - [Speaker 1]
Is she and hopefully thriving. Let's let's leave Britney Spears alone right now and find the answer to her.
[00:31:19] - [Speaker 2]
Alone.
[00:31:23] - [Speaker 1]
He played guitar.
[00:31:23] - [Speaker 2]
So no longer with us. Pop rock played guitar.
[00:31:33] - [Speaker 1]
Is it prince? It is not Prince. You already guessed that, but you did go for a theatrical performer and one who had a lot of well, you know what? Before Taylor Swift had her eras, well, had plenty of his.
[00:31:49] - [Speaker 0]
You're goddamn right he did.
[00:31:50] - [Speaker 1]
Well, Prince did as well as the musician we're talking about for this for this question.
[00:31:57] - [Speaker 0]
Oh, I just don't know. Pop rock no longer with us.
[00:32:01] - [Speaker 1]
He had a long career before. At least twenty years.
[00:32:08] - [Speaker 0]
You're telling me this person was in a quantic dream game?
[00:32:11] - [Speaker 1]
He was in a quantic dream game. Their first one.
[00:32:18] - [Speaker 0]
Is oh my gosh. What is his name? Lenny Kravitz. Oh.
[00:32:23] - [Speaker 1]
Lenny Kravitz.
[00:32:23] - [Speaker 0]
He's still alive. I've seen his full dick, like, last year in that video.
[00:32:27] - [Speaker 1]
He doesn't have to be alive for that to be on the Internet, unfortunately. This video? This is a British musician.
[00:32:35] - [Speaker 0]
Oh, Pink Floyd. Oh, he's dead. No. No. Pink Floyd.
[00:32:40] - [Speaker 1]
Elton John. Elton John.
[00:32:41] - [Speaker 0]
He's also alive.
[00:32:43] - [Speaker 2]
Wait. What? I thought he's dead.
[00:32:45] - [Speaker 1]
This this is a great excuse for us to check all of these. You know what? There might have been news, but I
[00:32:49] - [Speaker 0]
still Is Elton John alive?
[00:32:50] - [Speaker 1]
I'm fairly certain last I checked, Elton John was still alive, and I'm going be very sad if I'm wrong about In fact, I'm very sad that this music died when the queen did. Is is that that might in fact be a thing. But, no, this was let's see. What other fun little hints can I give you on this?
[00:33:08] - [Speaker 0]
Is Helton John just the queen's symbiote? That's the queen's Jojo stand.
[00:33:16] - [Speaker 1]
We rage.
[00:33:17] - [Speaker 2]
She taps into her hidden power.
[00:33:18] - [Speaker 0]
He's like, but
[00:33:21] - [Speaker 1]
no. No. They well, I've already said he. And no. No.
[00:33:27] - [Speaker 1]
He was let's see.
[00:33:34] - [Speaker 0]
He's Jeff, can I can I ask the audience? Is that can we
[00:33:37] - [Speaker 1]
You can ask the audience, and you might even hear them. Okay. Audience, do you have do you have any input? Do you have any help on this? Who is this British pop rock musician who is no longer with us, who was an established writer of music, composer, musician before composing and being mocapped into this game and years after?
[00:34:02] - [Speaker 0]
David Bowie.
[00:34:03] - [Speaker 1]
That is correct. Damn it. That is a point for Gary.
[00:34:09] - [Speaker 0]
What's up now, Aaron?
[00:34:10] - [Speaker 2]
I'm still ahead by, like, two, bro.
[00:34:13] - [Speaker 0]
Over there playing hating.
[00:34:16] - [Speaker 1]
Now now So just now. Just real quick. What was the name of the game? Now.
[00:34:21] - [Speaker 0]
Did you know the name? Indigo Prophecy.
[00:34:24] - [Speaker 1]
It is it is still not Indigo Prophecy. It is Omicron the Nomad's Soul. And in fact
[00:34:30] - [Speaker 0]
Oh, yes. That's right.
[00:34:32] - [Speaker 1]
On the on the Dreamcast cover, you will see the digitized face of David Bowie. Damn.
[00:34:38] - [Speaker 0]
Dang it. I forgot to know about I do I do remember this cover. I do.
[00:34:44] - [Speaker 1]
It it's a it's a distinct cover, and this is how these how these things often go once you remember. There it is. But let's let's see. Let's move on to our our next music question. I can't believe how fast
[00:34:54] - [Speaker 0]
I got that. That was amazing.
[00:34:55] - [Speaker 1]
I know. This is really such a fast round we're doing right now. So, Cynthia Jeff,
[00:35:00] - [Speaker 0]
can I give you can I
[00:35:01] - [Speaker 2]
give Jerry a point to to lose? Jeff or fuck Jerry. If I give you a point, will you, will you surrender?
[00:35:08] - [Speaker 1]
Un unfortunately, none of your points are steelbook points, so you can't trade those. Can't you can't trade your your regular points.
[00:35:15] - [Speaker 2]
Do
[00:35:17] - [Speaker 0]
I have one of those?
[00:35:18] - [Speaker 1]
Unfortunately, no. All all we've got are baseline points. Here might be here's this you know what? I I have faith in both of you on this one. Dear god, let me have something here.
[00:35:32] - [Speaker 1]
What Cynthia Harrell is a a a fabulously talented singer recording artist who has only two credited video game tracks, And they are fairly well known, certainly as far as I'm concerned. And if not, I feel like I'm gonna be losing some bets tonight. One for regular points, two for the for the steelbook. What are Cynthia Harrell's only two video game singing credits?
[00:36:03] - [Speaker 0]
Singing. Are they Are any of them
[00:36:05] - [Speaker 2]
in Jet Set Radio or Jet Set Radio Future?
[00:36:08] - [Speaker 1]
They are not. These are very much distinct songs themselves. They're not just part of the general levels. They are actually, I would say, one is an opening credits and one is the closing credits. These are very featured songs and notable within their soundtracks.
[00:36:28] - [Speaker 0]
Are they Persona. Oh.
[00:36:31] - [Speaker 1]
They're not Persona. No. Though excellent guess Are they Persona gamers? Typically have a singer for the whole track. Both of these, for the whole game rather, both of these tracks are from separate titles and separate franchises, but were made by the same company.
[00:36:47] - [Speaker 2]
Okay. Is is is one of them from a kingdom hearts game and the other one is from final fantasy? Something like that?
[00:36:54] - [Speaker 1]
No. But you you are at least picking up on my hands, so I feel like we're doing better now. That's fantastic. Thank you, Aaron. But that is not Squaresoft.
[00:37:06] - [Speaker 0]
I I don't know the answer, but I'm gonna take a wild, wild guess.
[00:37:12] - [Speaker 1]
Okay. I don't know how that's different than anything else you've done, but hit me with it.
[00:37:17] - [Speaker 0]
Yeah. Go to the ball. Go to the ball. Is it from a Sonic game? No.
[00:37:30] - [Speaker 1]
They are not from Sonic games. Though those do also feature a great deal of notable vocal tracks. So you know what? Not a not a wild a swing as you thought. Not as wild a swing as you thought.
[00:37:42] - [Speaker 1]
Yeah. Alright. Well, I'll I'll make it a little easier for you both. They are Konami games.
[00:37:51] - [Speaker 2]
From are they from, like, metal I'm gonna go with Metal Gear and Castlevania.
[00:37:57] - [Speaker 1]
What are the titles of the songs? I want the titles.
[00:38:00] - [Speaker 0]
Snake Eater. That's one of them. What's the other one? And I'm
[00:38:07] - [Speaker 1]
not or or let Jerry get this act, but get the seal book. What's the other one? Okay. Against my better judgment, you've restored my faith. Let's go.
[00:38:18] - [Speaker 0]
Symphony of the night.
[00:38:23] - [Speaker 1]
I will give you the steelbook under duress. I will happily give it to you if you can even halfway get the title of the song. Not the game. You already got the title of the game.
[00:38:43] - [Speaker 0]
Vampire Slayer.
[00:38:47] - [Speaker 1]
You might be thinking of vampire killer, which is a far more established title and involves no vocals. The the title of the track is I am the wind. It is a very contrasting track to the rest of Symphony of the Night's admittedly eclectic and delightful soundtrack. Cynthia Harrell sang Snake Eater and I am the Wind. And so yeah, Jerry.
[00:39:09] - [Speaker 1]
Now now you've got a steelbook to do with as you will. Put it on your shelf. Impress your friends. Impress yourself. Use it to level out a wobbly piece of furniture or what have you.
[00:39:21] - [Speaker 1]
Now let's move on
[00:39:22] - [Speaker 0]
to I'm going to sell it on Kijiji and eBay because I need money for craft dinner.
[00:39:29] - [Speaker 1]
That makes a lot of sense. Craft dinner can get very expensive when you Dinner. Well, anyway. Well, you you you you do that, and maybe by the end of this, you put
[00:39:39] - [Speaker 0]
You're doing you're doing very well. Cheers.
[00:39:40] - [Speaker 1]
You're doing great. If you list that now, maybe by the end of this trivia show, you might have a sale. But, you know, don't don't sell your steelbooks before they've dropped. I have no idea. You know what?
[00:39:52] - [Speaker 1]
It may. It may. Okay. I'm not here to give opinions. I'm here to ask trivia.
[00:39:58] - [Speaker 0]
I might even get the fancy craft dinner.
[00:40:01] - [Speaker 1]
You you know what? You might. Do you do you add, do you add ketchup or hot sauce or any sort of spices to it? Is it coming that way? Or
[00:40:07] - [Speaker 2]
Or hot dogs.
[00:40:08] - [Speaker 1]
Hot dogs. There you go.
[00:40:11] - [Speaker 0]
I I'm I don't know if, just because I'm wearing a suit, I don't know if it makes it look like I'm made of money, but I I don't add those ingredients to my craft dinner. Like, that's
[00:40:20] - [Speaker 1]
that's for the Richmond. That was my mistake.
[00:40:22] - [Speaker 2]
No one's buying a used Cybertruck. That's just silly.
[00:40:26] - [Speaker 1]
You know, some some
[00:40:27] - [Speaker 0]
You know what, Aaron? You know what, man? What, man? What? Would you like to buy a Cybertruck sometime?
[00:40:40] - [Speaker 1]
How many miles are on it?
[00:40:43] - [Speaker 0]
At least 50,000. I I just had that thing jacked up in the in the garage, and I just put a fucking rock on the pedal and just racked
[00:40:53] - [Speaker 2]
up the
[00:40:53] - [Speaker 0]
racked those kilometers up because, you know, it just shows that it has longevity. You know what? This is not the time and the place. I'll sell you guys as many Cybertrucks as you want later after the show after I beat Aaron's ass.
[00:41:06] - [Speaker 1]
I look forward to buying essentially as many Cybertrucks as I want to buy. Our next question concerns Mega Man. Harumi Fujita was the first Damn it. Composer for Mega Man three before needing to drop from the project due to maternity leave. Besides the credit roll, she composed two other songs during her time on the project.
[00:41:27] - [Speaker 1]
They were both robot master themes. So they were the the they're level themes and they're the eight robot masters from Mega Man three. This is this is like the last few questions. Two points to get the bonus. I just want one of them.
[00:41:37] - [Speaker 1]
Which of the what are the two robot master themes she composed for Mega Man three?
[00:41:42] - [Speaker 0]
Snake Man. Snake Man. Oh.
[00:41:45] - [Speaker 1]
No. Okay. Yeah. Snake Man again. That's so wrong.
[00:41:49] - [Speaker 1]
Aaron. She's gotta do back and forth. Let me see if he gets it right. Scorpion, you said? Skull Man.
[00:41:55] - [Speaker 1]
Skull Man. Not Skull Man. That's Mega Man four. Jerry. Shadow Man.
[00:42:00] - [Speaker 1]
That's that's Mega Man three. I'm proud of you, but no. Aaron.
[00:42:07] - [Speaker 0]
Oh god. Torch Man.
[00:42:08] - [Speaker 2]
Oh.
[00:42:09] - [Speaker 1]
Not Torch Man.
[00:42:10] - [Speaker 0]
Pharaoh Man.
[00:42:11] - [Speaker 1]
Pharaoh Man is make now now you're on Mega Man four. You're moving further away from the correct answer. Think of what
[00:42:17] - [Speaker 0]
Sigma. Sigma
[00:42:19] - [Speaker 1]
is a completely different series. So you want to think about what music from these from these stages was different than the usual driving rock ideas of the previous Mega Man titles. One had even a bit of a salsa feel to it despite not being a fiery stage.
[00:42:36] - [Speaker 0]
Salsa Man. Oh.
[00:42:37] - [Speaker 2]
Macho Man. Bow.
[00:42:39] - [Speaker 1]
Neither. Macho Man. Man. Neither. Jerry.
[00:42:41] - [Speaker 0]
Toad Man. Toad Man. It's Toad Man. Bow.
[00:42:44] - [Speaker 1]
You both are very well versed in Mega Man four without realizing that it's not the game I'm asking you about. Do either of you
[00:42:50] - [Speaker 2]
Macho Man was in Mega Man four.
[00:42:52] - [Speaker 0]
Gemini Man. Gemini Man.
[00:42:55] - [Speaker 1]
Gemini Man is absolutely a correct answer.
[00:42:57] - [Speaker 0]
Do you want to I'll give you
[00:42:58] - [Speaker 1]
one more guess for the extra point.
[00:43:03] - [Speaker 0]
Okay, Jeff. I am ready. I am ready for the for the next guess.
[00:43:07] - [Speaker 1]
Alright. Alright. You get one more guess. Who's the other robot master that Harumi Fuji took
[00:43:11] - [Speaker 0]
Naypalm man.
[00:43:14] - [Speaker 1]
Go. Needleman. I'm looking for Needleman. And
[00:43:19] - [Speaker 0]
Is it Needleman?
[00:43:21] - [Speaker 1]
It is Needleman.
[00:43:22] - [Speaker 0]
What is Needleman? What is Needleman?
[00:43:24] - [Speaker 2]
Guy I get my heroin from.
[00:43:25] - [Speaker 1]
Needleman is who you get rush jet from. And if that's what you call heroin, that's up to you, and that's a regionalism I've never
[00:43:33] - [Speaker 0]
heard of.
[00:43:33] - [Speaker 1]
But I
[00:43:34] - [Speaker 2]
need a little bit of that rush jet. That's why I was late today. Got a little bit of that rush
[00:43:39] - [Speaker 0]
jet.
[00:43:40] - [Speaker 1]
I I you know what? I think one day I wanna sit down and look at every rush form that are across Mega Man games and decide what drug that sounds most like because I feel like rush Rush Marine's got a little bit of an acid feel to it for me.
[00:43:54] - [Speaker 0]
Just a little bit Oh, yeah.
[00:43:55] - [Speaker 1]
Drop a little bit of Rush Marine and see what happens. But let's move on to our last music question and it still is Mega Man. Manami Matsume composed the music and sound effects for the original Mega Man. So she in fact was codifying the jingles, tones and tracks that are still associated with the franchise today. The boss select jingle that she composed for that game carries carries on into future games.
[00:44:20] - [Speaker 1]
But amongst her many credits, she only composed for one more Mega Man game, and in fact, one more track. What was the game that she composed that she contributed a track for? Buzz. Yes.
[00:44:35] - [Speaker 0]
Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz.
[00:44:51] - [Speaker 2]
Oh.
[00:44:52] - [Speaker 1]
It not it not Mega Man seven. No. No.
[00:44:55] - [Speaker 2]
You better not let me catch you outside that parking lot, Jerry.
[00:44:59] - [Speaker 0]
What's up, man? I'm at me in my in my cyber truck, dude. You can't break glass.
[00:45:05] - [Speaker 2]
Feel messed up on rush jet, bro. Rush marine or whatever. Unstoppable.
[00:45:10] - [Speaker 1]
You you
[00:45:10] - [Speaker 0]
just can't you can't get
[00:45:12] - [Speaker 1]
off that rush cycle, can you?
[00:45:14] - [Speaker 0]
I can't. I'm hooked for life, man.
[00:45:17] - [Speaker 1]
Deeply unfortunate, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. Yes. You are safe in the Cybertruck, but are you really? And really, who's who's the winner in that fight?
[00:45:28] - [Speaker 2]
Yeah. Like, 50,000 miles on a Cybertruck is, like, 200,000 miles of normal car miles. So, like
[00:45:35] - [Speaker 1]
Absolutely. Absolutely. In in in interest of moving on, I'm going to tell you that the game was Mega Man 10, and the robot master was Nitro. So
[00:45:47] - [Speaker 0]
I'm a little disappointed in myself here tonight, Jeff. I gotta I gotta tell you.
[00:45:51] - [Speaker 1]
That's that's I'm a
[00:45:52] - [Speaker 0]
I'm a huge Mega Man fan, and
[00:45:55] - [Speaker 1]
I, I got
[00:45:55] - [Speaker 0]
my my family's here watching me, and I don't know if I have a place to sleep tonight. Maybe it's in the Cybertruck. I don't know.
[00:46:02] - [Speaker 1]
Maybe it's in the Cybertruck. It it seems like they're really pushing that cargo bed on the back with the cover, so you will be shielded from the elements, apparently.
[00:46:14] - [Speaker 0]
Absolutely. Do you wanna buy one?
[00:46:16] - [Speaker 1]
No. Would you like to answer some questions about portable handheld portable consoles?
[00:46:21] - [Speaker 0]
Absolutely. Absolutely. Fantastic.
[00:46:24] - [Speaker 1]
Let's let's start some potent portables here. Of the following three handheld consoles, which one had the least number of official release titles according to Wikipedia? Of these three, which had the fewest? The N Gauge, the Neo Geo Pocket Color, which includes the Neo Geo Pocket, or the Atari Lynx.
[00:46:46] - [Speaker 0]
Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz.
[00:46:47] - [Speaker 1]
You're each getting one guess because there's only three possible ones.
[00:46:49] - [Speaker 2]
Okay.
[00:46:50] - [Speaker 1]
Aaron.
[00:46:52] - [Speaker 2]
Neo Geo Pocket Color.
[00:46:53] - [Speaker 1]
That is incorrect. Jerry, you want to get this one? Fart.
[00:46:57] - [Speaker 0]
The Atari Lynx.
[00:47:00] - [Speaker 1]
That is incorrect. The N Gauge with 64 official titles I was gonna say N Gauge. Was the fewest. Funny story. This is for no points, I just find this a great bit of trivia.
[00:47:13] - [Speaker 1]
The Neo Geo Pocket Color and the Atari Lynx had the same number of officially released titles with 73.
[00:47:20] - [Speaker 2]
How many?
[00:47:21] - [Speaker 1]
73.
[00:47:21] - [Speaker 0]
Holy shit.
[00:47:23] - [Speaker 1]
So they're all pretty close to each other. And let's let's go let's go to something with an even lower count, an even smaller library. The Virtual Boy with 22 releases spread out across the regions because no region got all of them. But one of those 22 titles was the first US release of a long running franchise that is still enjoying success in multiple regions today. For for points on either way, what was the game and what franchise did it introduce?
[00:47:53] - [Speaker 0]
Buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz fucked Aaron. I believe
[00:48:01] - [Speaker 1]
They got one. It's
[00:48:04] - [Speaker 0]
Mario Tennis.
[00:48:08] - [Speaker 1]
Mario Tennis was in fact a Virtual Boy title, but was not the answer I'm looking for. Mario was very well established across across franchises and regions at that point. These these these characters had never even been introduced in America before this title.
[00:48:29] - [Speaker 0]
Jeff. Jeff.
[00:48:30] - [Speaker 1]
Yes, Aaron.
[00:48:30] - [Speaker 0]
Is it is it Jack Bros?
[00:48:32] - [Speaker 1]
It is Jack Bros. What franchise did that introduce for the bonus point?
[00:48:36] - [Speaker 0]
Shin Megami Tensei?
[00:48:37] - [Speaker 1]
That is correct. Is a little star next to that a right there.
[00:48:42] - [Speaker 0]
Yes.
[00:48:43] - [Speaker 1]
And now we're gonna move on to a segment, a category I like to call, it doesn't work that way.
[00:48:53] - [Speaker 0]
Alright.
[00:48:54] - [Speaker 1]
RPGs, lot of stats. Lot of stats. Attack, defense, magic, speed, evasion, critical hit, anything else. In the Super Nintendo version of Final Fantasy six, due to a coding oversight, one of the stats did not get used at all in calculating what it's supposed to calculate or really anything for your characters. What stat is that?
[00:49:18] - [Speaker 1]
Faith. Correct franchise, wrong game.
[00:49:29] - [Speaker 0]
Agility slash speed. What whatever the word would be
[00:49:33] - [Speaker 2]
for speed for that game.
[00:49:33] - [Speaker 1]
For speed? Okay. Thank you for clarifying on that. It it is it does not affect your your speed. It does not that one.
[00:49:40] - [Speaker 1]
Okay.
[00:49:43] - [Speaker 0]
Stamina.
[00:49:45] - [Speaker 1]
Stamina in what way? What what is it supposed to affect? It affects your health? I think it does, and I think it works correctly. It definitely works correctly.
[00:50:06] - [Speaker 1]
Whatever it is, stamina works correctly. This is not what I'm looking for. To help you out a little bit, there is a related stat to it that actually covers for this stat. So in fact, boosting that stat is of the the one that works is a very good idea.
[00:50:25] - [Speaker 2]
Stamina. Is
[00:50:26] - [Speaker 1]
it It's not stamina and it's not your agility or
[00:50:28] - [Speaker 0]
speed. Strength.
[00:50:33] - [Speaker 1]
No. It is not strength. I was trying to think of what would be the the the opposite of that, and it's probably magic, but no. It's not strength.
[00:50:42] - [Speaker 0]
It's the opposite of that is Eren's little arms.
[00:50:48] - [Speaker 2]
We definitely have hashed this. We are we are we are
[00:50:53] - [Speaker 1]
on a Zoom call. We are, across all sorts of things. If you're able to catch hands from wherever he is, honestly, that's the most impressive part.
[00:51:02] - [Speaker 0]
Motherfucking go go ad gadget, stretchy arm thing You're doing great. Across his face. I'll send
[00:51:08] - [Speaker 2]
to Grubhub his way to knock his ass out.
[00:51:11] - [Speaker 1]
Be sure to tip.
[00:51:12] - [Speaker 2]
Deliver groceries, I'll deliver a beating. Jeff, is it luck? It is
[00:51:17] - [Speaker 1]
not luck. You are you're honestly getting kind of close with with your guesses.
[00:51:23] - [Speaker 2]
Is it is it the stat that affects the ATB gauge for individual characters?
[00:51:28] - [Speaker 1]
No. That that would be more of an agility speed thing. It has nothing to do with the ATB. Okay. This this does have to do with some something involving damage calculation.
[00:51:38] - [Speaker 1]
Not I'm not giving you to give you more would reveal too much, I think. Magic. No. It is not magic. So we've established it's not strength.
[00:51:50] - [Speaker 1]
It's not magic. It's not stamina. It is not agility slash speed. It is not luck. What's the best way to mitigate damage?
[00:51:59] - [Speaker 2]
Oh, defense.
[00:52:02] - [Speaker 1]
Even better than that. It's not defense. It is not
[00:52:04] - [Speaker 2]
It's not magic defense?
[00:52:09] - [Speaker 1]
What's another way attorney. What's another way
[00:52:12] - [Speaker 0]
to Oh, Oh, that's what I'm looking for. It's not mitigation. Oh, no. I can't believe that neither
[00:52:28] - [Speaker 1]
us knows. Armor. That's quite alright. I'm I you know what? I'm looking at this as just the weirdest learning opportunity for everybody.
[00:52:36] - [Speaker 1]
It's kind of where this is landing. The best defense in my opinion is don't get hit at all, But your physical evasion stat means absolutely nothing in the Super NES version, but your magic evasion covers for both. So if you're ever to raise that up to like the two fifty five or whatever it is, they make it easy because they expected it to be split up, You can make a nigh unhittable character. And as a bonus, that means that the darkness status effect does nothing. That's one downside for Strago in learning lures.
[00:53:09] - [Speaker 1]
Otherwise, far as evasion or anything like that, darkness doesn't do any of it because it affects physical evasion. And that means that this is the one game I can think of where the goggles, they do nothing because the goggles prevent darkness.
[00:53:24] - [Speaker 2]
Dang it. That's cool.
[00:53:25] - [Speaker 1]
That's a fun
[00:53:26] - [Speaker 2]
It's on the the original SNES version?
[00:53:28] - [Speaker 1]
Original SNES version. It was correct it was corrected in later versions, and I'm and I'm almost certain in the Pixel remaster, it works the way it's supposed to. But this this was a, yeah, of the time. And speaking of older programming oversights, what move that is known in Pokemon, it's still in, it's still in the mix. It's not, it's not gone away.
[00:53:47] - [Speaker 1]
But in its first iteration in gen one, red, blue, green, yellow. In practice, it did the exact opposite of what it's supposed to do. What move is it? It's a Tail whip. Go.
[00:54:02] - [Speaker 1]
No tail whip. But I before I was even saying it's a status move, you're on the right track.
[00:54:08] - [Speaker 2]
Is it can I just list off a bunch?
[00:54:11] - [Speaker 1]
I'll give you three. I'll give you three.
[00:54:14] - [Speaker 2]
Screech.
[00:54:15] - [Speaker 1]
No.
[00:54:18] - [Speaker 0]
Growl.
[00:54:19] - [Speaker 1]
I'm not gonna tell you yes or no. List one more. Leer. That's none of those. Damn.
[00:54:27] - [Speaker 1]
Jerry, you wanna take a stab
[00:54:28] - [Speaker 0]
at a few of Disable.
[00:54:33] - [Speaker 2]
Boom.
[00:54:33] - [Speaker 1]
It's not disable. Disable successfully disables moves. Yes. It does work a little differently in future generations, but that's just balance. This game, the message says it's doing what it's doing in whatever way that limited characters and those old Pokemon games did.
[00:54:50] - [Speaker 1]
But in numbers, in practice, it did the exact opposite.
[00:54:55] - [Speaker 2]
Is
[00:54:55] - [Speaker 1]
it is it
[00:54:58] - [Speaker 2]
poison powder or like sleep powder or
[00:55:02] - [Speaker 1]
No. None none of the ones that cause status effects. Those do successfully cause status effects. We're narrowing it down now.
[00:55:08] - [Speaker 2]
The ones that, like, decrease? Is it just the ones that, like, decrease stats and
[00:55:14] - [Speaker 1]
shit? It's if if Is it Dig? Oh. It is not Dig. Dig, in fact, Digs and does ground type damage.
[00:55:21] - [Speaker 1]
This is a move that if it says it boosts, it decreases. If it says it decreases, it boosts, whatever this move is. I'll give each of you a moment to think about it and one more guess a piece. You know what? I'll even help you out here.
[00:55:40] - [Speaker 1]
The message that it gives you is that the Pokemon that used it is getting pumped.
[00:55:48] - [Speaker 2]
Oh my god. Focus energy?
[00:55:51] - [Speaker 1]
Focus energy. Is supposed to quadruple Fuck this. Your critical hit chance, and it in fact decreases it to 25%. So anytime you're fighting Bruno in the elite four and his fighting type Pokemon are using focus energy, he's wasted a turn and has made himself even more useless. In future in future games, they changed how much it multiplied or how much it boosted, but focus energy actually did boost crit chance after that.
[00:56:18] - [Speaker 1]
But that was one of the many programming quirks of the first generation Pokemon. We're gonna we're gonna head back to Final Fantasy for for another question or two. In the original Final Fantasy on the NES, what? There is a critical hit stat for every weapon, but that stat does not determine the critical hit chance. This one I'm just gonna take a stab or two because this is a weird one.
[00:56:44] - [Speaker 1]
But I I just love sharing this fact with people. What actually in the programming, what determines the critical hit rate of the weapon? It's something in the programming. It's pulled from somewhere else entirely. But it is Numbers.
[00:56:59] - [Speaker 1]
Make some sense. Numbers, yes. But what numbers? Numbers. Numbers.
[00:57:03] - [Speaker 1]
Okay. Yes. Very good. I'll help you out here. No no weapon shares a critical hit chance with another one.
[00:57:14] - [Speaker 2]
Strength?
[00:57:15] - [Speaker 0]
Goal.
[00:57:15] - [Speaker 1]
Strength. Deficiency? Goal. Goal. No.
[00:57:20] - [Speaker 1]
It's not pulled from character stats.
[00:57:23] - [Speaker 0]
Oh, okay.
[00:57:25] - [Speaker 1]
The hit, these numbers that's actually a good that's a good guess. It's not the the each weapon has a different critical hit chance, and it is pulled from something that is not the status as critical hit.
[00:57:40] - [Speaker 0]
Is it the amount of numbers that's in the in the amount of letters that make up the word of the weapon?
[00:57:49] - [Speaker 1]
I wish that were the case. That's honestly, that's that's the kind of stuff that happens in these sort of games where they they don't quite have it and they pull it from something else. It is not that. What it is, is the index number, the list of weapons and where they are in the index. If it's the first weapon in the index, it has a critical hit chance at one 2%, three %, all the way up.
[00:58:14] - [Speaker 1]
So it works in a very interesting way where your weaker weapons are lower on the list because they're some of the first ones pulled up. So they do in fact have a low crit chance. Oh. But because they are put in differently as far as class of weapons, if you play the original Final Fantasy, may have noticed hammers seem to have a really high critical hit chance because they are higher on the weapon index than swords.
[00:58:37] - [Speaker 0]
Just a That's
[00:58:38] - [Speaker 2]
kinda cool.
[00:58:38] - [Speaker 1]
That's just a dumb little thing. Well, I'll skip that next question. Let's before this is our last round before we move on to our lightning round. Which is This is a round This is a category of questions I like to call something's missing. First question.
[00:58:58] - [Speaker 1]
Sega, during the nineteen nineties, used planets as code names for their console projects. One of them even stuck as the final name, with the Sega Saturn. While several of these projects did not reach completion, planets were still used for the project names. You know, the the Neptune was a combination Genesis 32 x unit. But one planet was not used, was never assigned as the name of a project.
[00:59:24] - [Speaker 1]
Because there's only nine planets and I just gave you one of them. I'll give you each one guess as to what planet was not used.
[00:59:32] - [Speaker 0]
Uranus.
[00:59:35] - [Speaker 1]
That's exactly correct.
[00:59:38] - [Speaker 0]
God damn it.
[00:59:39] - [Speaker 1]
It was it was also determined or has a has been said in stories that the way that that then that planet name is said in Japanese sounds a lot like the phrase won't sell. Maybe that's true. Maybe that's not. I don't speak Japanese, and I believe what I'm what I read on the Internet sometimes. But let's move on to the next question.
[00:59:58] - [Speaker 1]
Very nicely done, Jarrett. That's a beautiful
[00:59:59] - [Speaker 0]
combination, Jeff, of, not selling an anuses.
[01:00:03] - [Speaker 1]
This is I believe You know what? I I I believe that, would sell a lot worse than a Cybertruck. A lot worse.
[01:00:11] - [Speaker 2]
I was gonna make that joke too. Dang it.
[01:00:13] - [Speaker 0]
It's Yeah.
[01:00:14] - [Speaker 1]
It's alright. We're working together.
[01:00:15] - [Speaker 2]
Taking a
[01:00:15] - [Speaker 0]
lot a lot of shot at at Cybertrucks, but it yeah. It's clear you haven't driven one. Why don't you come on down and try one out?
[01:00:23] - [Speaker 1]
Because I live in New York City and I value my life. Next question. What long awaited feature did the Smash TV arcade cabinet receive with its version eight point o revision? Dual analog.
[01:00:42] - [Speaker 2]
It
[01:00:43] - [Speaker 1]
was not dual analog. No.
[01:00:49] - [Speaker 2]
Disabling coin op? Bull
[01:00:51] - [Speaker 1]
up. Not disabling coin op. This is something that is part of the game and something within the game that this is It got rid of blood? It's about
[01:01:02] - [Speaker 2]
to get
[01:01:02] - [Speaker 1]
rid of blood and the amount of gore remained throughout. Excellent question. Excellent or excellent guess. Those are sorts of things for some of the console ports. This was an update on the arcade cabinet.
[01:01:14] - [Speaker 1]
This was something that was Arcade machines lie to us all the time to get more to get us to put more money in to see something going on. Mortal Kombat would taunt us with reptile and there was a way to unlock that reptile fight. It was difficult. It was arduous. It was arbitrary in fact, but you could do it.
[01:01:34] - [Speaker 1]
Smash TV was missing something that people were looking for specifically in Smash TV that wasn't there until public outcry. It wasn't a final boss. Fuck. But it but it definitely was something that was picked and not left out because no one's gonna get that far. No one's gonna find it.
[01:02:01] - [Speaker 1]
Think sort of memetically about Smash TV. Big money, big prizes. They have all sorts of phrases that pop up every time you enter a new room in there. And this one has a very alluring name. It.
[01:02:21] - [Speaker 1]
Man. When you find it, it is full of flashing lights, glaring color, and a very particular kind of pickup.
[01:02:33] - [Speaker 2]
Cybertruck.
[01:02:34] - [Speaker 1]
It is not the Cybertruck is not the pickup. The Cybertruck is not the Cybertruck has nothing to do with Smash TV.
[01:02:43] - [Speaker 2]
Oh, you meant you meant pickup, like an item?
[01:02:46] - [Speaker 1]
Yes. An item to pick up. There's, you know, cash and fabulous prizes, you know, our our fabulous home game. Is it
[01:02:52] - [Speaker 0]
an extra life? Extra life. It was
[01:02:54] - [Speaker 1]
not extra life. Extra an extra life were not the pickup in this edition that had been missing.
[01:03:01] - [Speaker 2]
Machete.
[01:03:02] - [Speaker 1]
Not a machete. It's not the pickup itself. It's what it was it's what the area was called. It's an area. Bonus level.
[01:03:15] - [Speaker 1]
It's something akin to, but Smash TV didn't really have a bonus level. And there was there were certainly rooms in Smash TV where you'd go in and there was a lot of things to pick up and a lot of points to get, and then you would have to fight something at the very end of it. But this was definitely more in that style, but this is distinct and you needed enough keys to get there. And they told you that you didn't have enough keys in every previous version of the game. And people played as hard as they could and even like messed with the game to try to figure out what's enough keys to get here, but it was never in the game until this revision.
[01:03:48] - [Speaker 1]
And now when you play Smash TV nowadays, you can get there. I in fact got there yesterday playing in the arcades.
[01:03:56] - [Speaker 0]
The the final level?
[01:04:00] - [Speaker 2]
Oh,
[01:04:00] - [Speaker 1]
not the final level. This this has its own special name. You're you're you're on the right track. It's towards the end of the game. It's one of those sort of are either of you deeply from it, like, not that familiar with Smash TV?
[01:04:14] - [Speaker 2]
No. Not really.
[01:04:15] - [Speaker 0]
I've never played the game a day in my life, Jeff.
[01:04:18] - [Speaker 1]
I recommend it. It's a very fun way to drop some quarters into a game at the arcade, and it is definitely trying to get your money because it keeps promising you you're almost to the Pleasure Dome. And they added the Pleasure Dome with the version eight revision where all of the pickups are just little pixelated bikini girls. And it is garish light. It is flashing.
[01:04:43] - [Speaker 1]
It is it is an eyesore. But by God, I reached the Pleasure Dome, and it was worth it.
[01:04:49] - [Speaker 2]
Alexa was worth it.
[01:04:51] - [Speaker 0]
Buy Pleasure Dome.
[01:04:55] - [Speaker 2]
And unfortunately Cybertruck I've me to Pleasure Dome.
[01:04:59] - [Speaker 1]
Don't you take me to Pleasure Dome. Alright. Well, let's move away from Smash TV, but let's move to a to a familiar franchise and a fun fighting game, I'm told. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters, released in 1993 on the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis. All of them very different versions from each other, And each version featured a different turtle on the cover.
[01:05:27] - [Speaker 1]
I'll give you each one guess. Which brother doesn't get a cover? Because there's only three.
[01:05:36] - [Speaker 0]
Donatello. Oh,
[01:05:39] - [Speaker 2]
goddamn it.
[01:05:40] - [Speaker 1]
You should have spread your points out because Donatello is on the Super NES version. Leonardo is on the NES cover, and Raphael is on the Sega Genesis, matching the red stripe on the side, leaving Michelangelo out in the cold. Why the fuck would those fucking do
[01:05:57] - [Speaker 2]
that? He's the coolest one.
[01:05:59] - [Speaker 1]
He's too busy partying and wasn't there for the photos.
[01:06:01] - [Speaker 0]
Aaron, you know what, dude? We've had a lot of differences on this on this show tonight, but one thing we can come together on, I think, is that Michelangelo got slighted, and that's not cool, man. It's not cool.
[01:06:16] - [Speaker 2]
That's not cool.
[01:06:17] - [Speaker 1]
I think that
[01:06:17] - [Speaker 2]
I this. We gotta take this fight to
[01:06:19] - [Speaker 0]
Take it to the streets.
[01:06:20] - [Speaker 1]
To Take it to Konami.
[01:06:21] - [Speaker 2]
Konami. They got the streets. They they need to release I'm gonna get really
[01:06:25] - [Speaker 1]
The the Game Boy version that I'd I'm not even sure was ever in development, but would be the most sensible thing at the time, and, like, put Michelangelo on the cover. Come on.
[01:06:35] - [Speaker 0]
Yeah. This is this is I'm gonna go out in my yard after this, and I'm gonna scream at my neighbor. I I this is absolutely insane.
[01:06:42] - [Speaker 1]
Of the most successful ways to get change in this world, I'm certain.
[01:06:48] - [Speaker 2]
I'm gonna get really sad about this later. I'm I'm gonna eat a whole tub of ice cream and and do some, aqua jet or whatever the fuck,
[01:06:55] - [Speaker 1]
and, I'm gonna pass out.
[01:06:57] - [Speaker 0]
Rush jet. Rush jet. We we you know, that's
[01:07:03] - [Speaker 2]
which one would be a bomb?
[01:07:04] - [Speaker 0]
You know what? Poke him in I think we we can share the depression. I'm probably just gonna go into my Cybershock and masturbate furiously and just call it a night. That's gonna be my thing. And then I will yell at my neighbor and be like, why the fuck didn't they put Michelangelo in?
[01:07:22] - [Speaker 2]
You bust out of your Cybertruck like, but they could why did they put my key? And the the whatever.
[01:07:31] - [Speaker 1]
Bust bust a knot in your busted truck. Bust the drum of everyone nearby.
[01:07:39] - [Speaker 2]
Oh god.
[01:07:46] - [Speaker 1]
Oh. I have to ask. I have to ask. I I I you know what? I haven't fully read up the brochures on the Cybertruck, but this feels very in line with the ethos of the people behind it.
[01:07:56] - [Speaker 1]
Are there masturbation In Frank's windows. Features in the Cybertruck?
[01:08:01] - [Speaker 0]
Absolutely, Jeff. I hope so. If you wanna come on down, you could test drive one. You could take one out. You can masturbate in it all you want.
[01:08:08] - [Speaker 0]
Those windows are
[01:08:09] - [Speaker 1]
on way. Rub one out.
[01:08:12] - [Speaker 0]
Exactly. Like, world is
[01:08:14] - [Speaker 1]
always one rub one weekend, and I just might.
[01:08:17] - [Speaker 2]
Take one rub.
[01:08:18] - [Speaker 0]
Buy one, get one rub You know, we we just had that at Chili's just the other day.
[01:08:24] - [Speaker 1]
Man, they they're doing it for fourth of July too. I thought it was just Memorial Day.
[01:08:30] - [Speaker 0]
Are cranking down at Chili's now?
[01:08:32] - [Speaker 2]
The whole time. This is endless apps.
[01:08:35] - [Speaker 1]
It gets hot up there, and sometimes you just have to. Why do you think they call them jalapeno poppers? Happy pride, everybody. I say in July. Speaking of things that, that are that are preventing, things that are missing, what is preventing anyone from finishing the first X Men game if they're playing it on the Sega Nomad?
[01:09:05] - [Speaker 1]
There is something that stops them.
[01:09:13] - [Speaker 2]
Juggernaut. I don't know. Oh.
[01:09:16] - [Speaker 1]
He is not the Juggernaut now. Juggernaut Is it Deadpool? Oh. It is not Deadpool. It is not any character.
[01:09:25] - [Speaker 1]
It is in fact, I would say a quirk of hardware.
[01:09:33] - [Speaker 0]
No saves.
[01:09:36] - [Speaker 1]
Good guess, but no. This is X Men is notable for a little bit of fourth wall breaking metagaming that didn't quite When you know what they're trying to tell you, it makes sense. But it's a very Metal Gear Solid, the frequencies on the back of the CD case and you had a CD case item kind of thing. There was something wrong with the danger room and you needed to fix it. Why can't you fix it on the Sega Nomad?
[01:10:16] - [Speaker 0]
Is it because, Nintendo don't do what Sega does?
[01:10:23] - [Speaker 1]
I mean, that is absolutely true, but that has nothing to do with the plight of mutants.
[01:10:29] - [Speaker 2]
Did it did it have to do with, like, with some of the buttons that are on the actual Sega Genesis that aren't on the Nomad?
[01:10:38] - [Speaker 1]
That is correct. That is Like
[01:10:39] - [Speaker 2]
the reset button, possibly?
[01:10:41] - [Speaker 1]
Exactly. Reset button. You needed to reset the computer, and it told you to do so. You needed to tap, not hold down, tap the reset button on your Sega Genesis and it would move you to the final level. But there is no reset button on the Sega Nomad.
[01:10:58] - [Speaker 1]
There are in fact hardware mods that you can buy online now to put a reset button on your Sega Nomad so you can get through this one challenge in this one game. Because that is what the Internet and gaming is about. Now, that's beautiful. We're gonna we're gonna wrap this segment up with two questions about Doom. And remember, this segment well, this last one is this next one is the last one of the something's missing.
[01:11:34] - [Speaker 1]
Doom may run on everything, but how much of Doom will it run? Textures, soundtrack, and slowdown. Let's let's throw that all out of the equation. We can argue about what's important in a Doom title forever. It's one of the joys of it.
[01:11:49] - [Speaker 1]
What's the best port? What's the worst port? Things are there or not there. Which official home console port of Doom has the fewest of the original 27 levels from PC Doom's first three episodes? Buzz.
[01:12:06] - [Speaker 1]
Yes.
[01:12:06] - [Speaker 2]
Buzzing it in.
[01:12:07] - [Speaker 1]
What is it?
[01:12:10] - [Speaker 0]
32 x.
[01:12:12] - [Speaker 1]
That is exactly correct, Jerry. I'll and I'll and I'll give you a steelbook. If you can tell me, I'll give you a margin of error of one. How many levels does it have?
[01:12:24] - [Speaker 0]
32.
[01:12:26] - [Speaker 1]
Of the original 27 levels, it has 32 levels.
[01:12:35] - [Speaker 0]
I think I might have information that you don't, but I I think you're reading 24.
[01:12:42] - [Speaker 1]
I think you're reading the console that the game is in. 32. Okay. No. No.
[01:12:48] - [Speaker 1]
It has You're
[01:12:48] - [Speaker 0]
absolutely right. Twenty four twenty four. Yeah. 32 x, 32 times levels.
[01:12:52] - [Speaker 1]
32 times levels. Yeah. Yeah.
[01:12:54] - [Speaker 2]
No. 30 DOOMEX?
[01:12:55] - [Speaker 1]
Obvi obviously. And if you've got a 32 x, that says something about a lot of things. And it has 17 levels. It
[01:13:02] - [Speaker 2]
is There's numbers on the system, Jared.
[01:13:03] - [Speaker 1]
Entire third episode.
[01:13:04] - [Speaker 2]
There's numbers on the system? Jeff, I wanna guess 10.
[01:13:11] - [Speaker 0]
17. 10 levels. Just told I just told you the answer at 17 levels.
[01:13:14] - [Speaker 2]
Oh. We
[01:13:16] - [Speaker 0]
were we were too we were too long.
[01:13:17] - [Speaker 1]
It's okay. Okay. We're we're we're fine in our groove. We're fine in our groove. Now, let's just just just as a bit of fun because there there was some fun talk about Doom, on a recent, retro rehab, I believe.
[01:13:29] - [Speaker 1]
And several console ports were developed for Doom in the early nineties based on built on the runaway success of the PC version. Many of them were built on the next step platform, which in fact a lot of the programming was done by John Carmack himself. The first of these ports well, yeah, it was coded by John Carmack himself, but which console was this port for?
[01:13:56] - [Speaker 0]
Super Nintendo.
[01:13:57] - [Speaker 1]
Not Super Nintendo.
[01:14:00] - [Speaker 2]
Atari Jaguar.
[01:14:02] - [Speaker 1]
Bingo. Hell yeah. It was the Jaguar. And in fact, that Jaguar port was the basis for most of the other console releases. But one Woah.
[01:14:17] - [Speaker 1]
One of them. Yeah. Even the Game Boy Advance release was built off of the Jaguar port. Yeah. But one of the systems was built on its own engine entirely.
[01:14:30] - [Speaker 1]
I'll just let the speed zone question. Which console? I'll On its own. I'll you I'll let you take one guess on that one. Virtual boy did not have a Doom official Doom release.
[01:14:44] - [Speaker 1]
No.
[01:14:54] - [Speaker 0]
Game Boy Advance. Go.
[01:14:57] - [Speaker 1]
I I I said the Game Boy Advance used next step. The SNES used the reality engine.
[01:15:03] - [Speaker 0]
I also just said
[01:15:05] - [Speaker 1]
You did all sit. Know what I'm not going to do points for anybody because you both kind of got that. You both kind of got to that one. So we'll just zero that one out. That's yeah.
[01:15:12] - [Speaker 1]
The SNES, the really frankly just a tech demo for showing you could run Doom on an SNES starting a long legacy of but can it run Doom? Yeah. No. The SNES didn't did not use Next Step. But the the Game Boy Advance, the PlayStation, the Saturn was built off of the build on the PlayStation, which was built on the Jaguar version.
[01:15:32] - [Speaker 1]
The 3DO version developed in just ten weeks was built almost wholesale off of it. So despite not having any music, the Jaguar port is very important in the history of Doom.
[01:15:44] - [Speaker 2]
That's so weird. Right. No music at all? No? Like, just sound effects and everything else?
[01:15:51] - [Speaker 2]
Just no music?
[01:15:51] - [Speaker 1]
I think it was just sound effects. Yeah. That that one I've yet to experience But I I actually, you know, 17 levels in all, the the 32 x version is the version I have in my home, so I don't know what that says about me. It says I need it says I need to collect better games. So all of that out of the way, we've we've taken the long road to the lightning round.
[01:16:16] - [Speaker 1]
Yeah. After the fact, we can end this. Alright. Yeah. Let's let's let's do this.
[01:16:20] - [Speaker 1]
So, what we're gonna do is get something to write down your answers, because I'm gonna like rapid fire through these. And all of the answers are going to be numbers. And the point will be awarded to the closest answer. And in certain cases, I'm gonna institute Price is Right rules, closest without going over. Those are gonna be typically for the larger numbers.
[01:16:43] - [Speaker 1]
But otherwise, closest gets the point. Or, in a case where you're equidistant, lower without going over. Idea. So, there's gonna be a good handful of questions. I had a lot of fun researching these.
[01:16:57] - [Speaker 1]
And I'm gonna I'm gonna ask the question, gonna wait maybe three seconds, and I'm gonna ask the next one. And we'll go through it. And if you wanna hear I'm
[01:17:06] - [Speaker 0]
putting numbers down.
[01:17:08] - [Speaker 1]
It's the the answers are only numbers. Some of them large, some of them small, but they're all a little arbitrary and esoteric about things. You're not the reason the thing is, if you happen to know the exact number here, I'm gonna be very impressed. But you're not supposed to. This this this is like, you know, guessing the number of beans in the jar, you know?
[01:17:30] - [Speaker 0]
So is where I'm going to wow the audience. This is my time.
[01:17:34] - [Speaker 2]
I'm ready.
[01:17:35] - [Speaker 1]
And and won't it be won't it be wowing? So Finally Jerry's time. Finally Jerry's time. So we're gonna we're gonna we're we're gonna start off with a little bit of the handhelds. How many double a batteries does the Game Gear need to run?
[01:17:53] - [Speaker 1]
How many AA batteries does the Sega Nomad need to operate? Finally, these three, how many AA batteries do you need for your Atari Lynx to turn on and play games? A perfect game of Pac Man is two fifty six stages of eating every dot, eating every ghost, every energizer pellet, and eating every piece of fruit that comes through. How many points does a player achieve if they have scored a perfect game of Pac Man? Following up on that, Pac Man only has the one maze.
[01:18:37] - [Speaker 1]
How many dots are in that maze? I will accept just the small dots or with the energizers. What is the earliest storyline year in which a Castlevania game takes place? Across any of the storylines that Konami calls official, what is the earliest year in which one takes place? Here's a little triforce of questions all about the original Legend of Zelda and all about the overworld.
[01:19:14] - [Speaker 1]
How many rupees can you gain by burning bushes, bombing rocks, and otherwise uncovering all the secrets in the overworld? By the same token, how many rupees will you end up paying in door repair costs engaging in that same wanton behavior in every space of the overworld? The other fun thing you can find on the overworld are shops. Sometimes with crucial items, sometimes it's just something to help you out. If you are allowed to buy duplicates and you bought one of everything from every item shop in the overworld, So you can get if there's a magical shield there, you can buy it.
[01:19:56] - [Speaker 1]
You go to another one, magical shield, you can get it. You bought one of everything in all the shops in the overworld. How many rupees would you end up spending? Last three questions. How many demo discs did official PlayStation Magazine release?
[01:20:18] - [Speaker 1]
That's both PS one and PS two. PS three never had demo discs. In Metal Gear Solid, you can unlock a digital camera, and you can take pictures and find ghosts. How many secret ghosts are there in the original Metal Gear Solid? Sonic and Knuckles was notable for its lock on technology, adding Knuckles to Sonic two and Sonic three.
[01:20:51] - [Speaker 1]
If you locked on Sonic one rather than getting Knuckles in a game, you would unlock every possible stage of Blue Sphere, the Sonic three special stage, that could be generated. How many stages of Blue Sphere can you access by locking on Sonic one to Sonic and Knuckles? Alright. I'm gonna give each of you, if you want one question repeated, or do you or do you feel confident in your answers? Very confident, Jeff.
[01:21:31] - [Speaker 1]
Fantastic, I'm
[01:21:31] - [Speaker 0]
here to win.
[01:21:33] - [Speaker 1]
I I know you are. What I know you are. Aaron? I'm good. Fantastic.
[01:21:39] - [Speaker 1]
Let's do this thing. Then let's check our answers. So how many double a batteries does the Sega Game Gear need? Jerry? Six.
[01:21:52] - [Speaker 1]
Aaron? Four. Answer is six. How many double a batteries does the Sega Nomad need? Jerry?
[01:22:03] - [Speaker 1]
Eight. Aaron?
[01:22:07] - [Speaker 0]
Six.
[01:22:08] - [Speaker 1]
It is in fact six. That's one for Aaron.
[01:22:11] - [Speaker 2]
Many double a Okay. Cool.
[01:22:12] - [Speaker 1]
How many double a batteries does the Atari Lynx need? Jerry? Four. Aaron? Three.
[01:22:21] - [Speaker 1]
The answer is, again, six. So that's one for Jerry because four is closer than three.
[01:22:27] - [Speaker 2]
Holy shit.
[01:22:27] - [Speaker 1]
All three of them. I I'm not gonna
[01:22:31] - [Speaker 0]
quip
[01:22:31] - [Speaker 1]
Six six six. I'm not gonna quibble about how many hours of gameplay you get out of those 18 double a batteries, but it's not gonna be a full day. Now, how many points can you score in a
[01:22:43] - [Speaker 0]
perfect game It wouldn't be a
[01:22:44] - [Speaker 1]
full shit. It would it would not. Depending on the day, depending upon the night you had before, depending upon how many cyber trucks you end up selling, or how you do on your child support, you you need that. You need that support of being able to play an entire game of Sonic Triple Trouble.
[01:23:03] - [Speaker 0]
I need this.
[01:23:04] - [Speaker 1]
My god. But, notwithstanding, let's let's let's let's get through this so we can all do our best here. How many points can you score in a perfect game of Pac Man, Jerry?
[01:23:15] - [Speaker 0]
Seventy five thousand.
[01:23:17] - [Speaker 1]
Seventy five thousand, alright. Aaron?
[01:23:22] - [Speaker 0]
Nine hundred and ninety nine thousand.
[01:23:24] - [Speaker 1]
Nine hundred and ninety nine thousand. Alright, Jerry said 75,000, Aaron said 999,000. The actual answer is 3,333,360, which means Aaron gets the point.
[01:23:39] - [Speaker 0]
What?
[01:23:40] - [Speaker 1]
Yes. 3,333,360. That is Bucks 6. Yeah. It's it's it's it's a lot.
[01:23:49] - [Speaker 1]
Well, how many dots are there in Pac Man's Maze, Jerry? One hundred. One hundred? Aaron?
[01:23:57] - [Speaker 2]
One hundred thirty. Hundred thirty.
[01:23:59] - [Speaker 1]
Actual answer is two hundred forty four. Two hundred forty small four power pellets. One for Aaron. Aaron, what is the earliest storyline year in which the Castlevania title takes place?
[01:24:13] - [Speaker 2]
1710.
[01:24:14] - [Speaker 1]
'17 '10. Jerry?
[01:24:17] - [Speaker 0]
'18 '90?
[01:24:19] - [Speaker 1]
'18 '90, '17 '10? '10 '90 '4, the the end of the eleventh century. For Castlevania Lament of Innocence, Leon Belmont, swearing to hunt the knight.
[01:24:33] - [Speaker 0]
That's when my dad was born.
[01:24:35] - [Speaker 1]
I mean It's what time some people I know were born as well. But I don't know about years.
[01:24:41] - [Speaker 2]
Eighteen ninety.
[01:24:42] - [Speaker 1]
Eighteen ninety.
[01:24:43] - [Speaker 2]
They fucking last saw him in Dracula. Yeah.
[01:24:46] - [Speaker 1]
That's around when Castle Oh boy. Well, that's around when Bram Stoker's Dracula was set, is why we can go, yeah, there's an actual fucking cowboy in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
[01:24:58] - [Speaker 0]
Fuck yeah.
[01:24:58] - [Speaker 1]
Personally, I'm a very big fan of Dracula daily, so I love getting to know these things. Alright. So let's let's do our rupee questions. How many rupees can you get from all of the secret Moblins? It's a secret to everybody.
[01:25:11] - [Speaker 1]
Jerry, what'd put down? 50. Aaron?
[01:25:17] - [Speaker 2]
5 hundred 50.
[01:25:19] - [Speaker 1]
I feel like I should give you a bonus point because that's precisely correct. 500 and 50 Oh, shh.
[01:25:26] - [Speaker 2]
Hell yeah.
[01:25:27] - [Speaker 1]
There are, I believe, 17 locations throughout the game. The second quest has a different amount. This is all first quest questions. And yeah, there's a three hundreds and then the other ones add up to $3.50 in increments of thirty and ten. How many rupees will you pay in
[01:25:46] - [Speaker 0]
door repair costs?
[01:25:47] - [Speaker 1]
That's very impressive. I'm I'm very impressed on that one. Jerry, how much will you pay in door repair costs? 12? 12.
[01:25:57] - [Speaker 1]
12. Okay. Aaron?
[01:26:01] - [Speaker 2]
Four hundred. Four hundred.
[01:26:06] - [Speaker 1]
Neither of you are close, but Cherry's closer because it's a hundred and 80. There are nine crotchety old men who want 20 rupees from you because you blew up their door. That's a hundred and $80.
[01:26:19] - [Speaker 2]
I knew I should have picked 13.
[01:26:23] - [Speaker 1]
1 dollar, 2 dollars, you asshole. That that genuinely is throwing that's that's Rowanhan's words. Alright. So, if you bought one of everything from the item shop, Aaron, how many rupees would you be spending?
[01:26:35] - [Speaker 2]
6,000 rupees, Jeff.
[01:26:37] - [Speaker 1]
6 thousand rupees. Alright. Jerry, how many would you be spending?
[01:26:41] - [Speaker 0]
Gonna gonna go with a nice smooth 1,200 rupees, Jeff.
[01:26:47] - [Speaker 1]
The actual amount is 2,770, so that is another one for Jerry, both without going over and closer. Nicely done, Jerry. How many demo discs did official PlayStation Magazine release, Aaron?
[01:27:02] - [Speaker 2]
Forty three, Jeff.
[01:27:03] - [Speaker 1]
Forty three. Forty three. Very good. I think I have issued 43. Jerry.
[01:27:09] - [Speaker 0]
A 48. This
[01:27:13] - [Speaker 1]
one I might have to do a little math on. You said a 48 and you said 43?
[01:27:20] - [Speaker 2]
Yep.
[01:27:21] - [Speaker 1]
The actual answer is 112. So that is another point for Jerry. I've I've decided only equidistant is is without going over. So I will give you that one.
[01:27:33] - [Speaker 0]
Damn it.
[01:27:34] - [Speaker 1]
Jerry, how many secret ghosts can you find with the camera in Metal Gear Solid? 25. 20 five. Aaron, your answer.
[01:27:43] - [Speaker 0]
23. Is that what you had wrote down or you just say that now? Yeah. It's it's 23 per You just changed it, dude.
[01:27:53] - [Speaker 2]
No one didn't. It's right there.
[01:27:55] - [Speaker 0]
Phones up. Phones up. So we can see this shit. I'm I'm I mean,
[01:27:59] - [Speaker 1]
you should've done like a I really should've done like, take a screenshot and like send it to me, like text it to me. That's the the next time we do this. If we ever if we ever do another one of these. Alright, Sheldon. Let me let me see what that next what that next one is, after that.
[01:28:13] - [Speaker 1]
So we got forty three, twenty three.
[01:28:17] - [Speaker 2]
It it might not.
[01:28:18] - [Speaker 1]
Twenty three and nine is your is your last answer? Close.
[01:28:20] - [Speaker 0]
Am I having a fucking stroke? That's my last one.
[01:28:23] - [Speaker 1]
No. The webcam is bad. The stuff, we don't upgrade equipment. But, the actual answer is forty two. So Jerry actually gets the point on that one.
[01:28:34] - [Speaker 0]
Hell yeah, dude. I'm eating that Good Kraft dinner tonight.
[01:28:37] - [Speaker 1]
There you go. It's Good Kraft dinner. So, alright. I I think Aaron said nine for the the last answer to this question of how many stages of Blue Sphere can you Yep. Jerry, how many stages of Blue Sphere can you access?
[01:28:55] - [Speaker 1]
Nine. Did you also write nine? I'm gonna call this nobodies because the way that these stages are created, they're actually sort of randomly generated. There is a regular order to them, but it is sort of piecing together some math and putting it together and you run through every permutation that can happen. And so the amount of distinct level layouts that you will end up running through if you play all of them is 128,000,000,000.
[01:29:26] - [Speaker 1]
No million, sorry. 128,000,000, 16 thousand. But you will actually end up playing 134,000,000, two hundred 17 thousand seven hundred 20 eight levels or two to the twenty seventh power numbers of stages of blue sphere. But remember, if you get every sphere and every ring and get a perfect, you skip 10 levels. So that might cut down your playtime just a little bit.
[01:29:50] - [Speaker 2]
That's how much I owe in child support, Jeff.
[01:29:52] - [Speaker 1]
Sounds about right. This win. Parents. Sounds about right. So I'm gonna I'm gonna look at points for a second here with my very, slow mouse for a moment.
[01:30:02] - [Speaker 1]
Let's see. Jerry's got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight. We've got nine, ten, 11. Currently, going into our final round, Jerry has 11 points. And Aaron has 12 points.
[01:30:47] - [Speaker 1]
So we seem to be in a really prime place to do a nice final round for all the marbles. I'm going to give you a one minute timer, and I want you to I want you to wager something for me here. I want you to wager how many Sega CD cases you're gonna buy for me by the time you're done with us because those things break so fast and I've got a collection to upkeep here. Remember, got 11 points, you got 12 points. Got some steel books in there.
[01:31:33] - [Speaker 2]
What was the question one more time? I wanna make sure I heard you right
[01:31:36] - [Speaker 1]
Oh, no. No. This isn't the actual isn't the actual question.
[01:31:39] - [Speaker 0]
We're wagering, Aaron. Keep up.
[01:31:44] - [Speaker 1]
How how many Sega CD cases are you buying for me? Because I'd like I I recently picked up Slam City with Scottie Pippen, and it was just the discs, but it's four discs.
[01:31:56] - [Speaker 0]
May may I wager something else?
[01:31:59] - [Speaker 1]
You you may That may
[01:32:00] - [Speaker 0]
be of equal value. Okay.
[01:32:02] - [Speaker 1]
Alright.
[01:32:05] - [Speaker 2]
If you say cyber truck, I'm gonna fucking scream.
[01:32:13] - [Speaker 0]
What what what what have you got? K. Jeff? Yeah. I will wager Yeah.
[01:32:23] - [Speaker 0]
A new to you Cybertruck with only two stains
[01:32:28] - [Speaker 1]
on one seat.
[01:32:31] - [Speaker 0]
Two stains.
[01:32:32] - [Speaker 1]
Are they in the same seat?
[01:32:35] - [Speaker 0]
You bet they are.
[01:32:39] - [Speaker 1]
Driver or passenger side?
[01:32:42] - [Speaker 0]
I'm on the driver.
[01:32:46] - [Speaker 1]
I mean, I real my wife prefers to drive, so that really isn't gonna affect me very much. However, I do live in New York City, and I am actually in the process of selling my car because I don't want to drive it anymore. That it that's about as useful to me as a Game.com.
[01:33:06] - [Speaker 2]
Jeff, I would I would like to wager this, Golden Girls arcade stick.
[01:33:13] - [Speaker 1]
Now we're talking. That is a wonderful thing to wager.
[01:33:19] - [Speaker 2]
Thank you for being a friend.
[01:33:21] - [Speaker 1]
Thank thank you for being a friend. Down to front and low punch again. Oh, anyway, I I I think we've we've wagered everything that is of of use and value to us. So I'm I'm I'm gonna set a one minute timer. And here's here's the question.
[01:33:40] - [Speaker 1]
Here's the thing.
[01:33:43] - [Speaker 0]
The
[01:33:43] - [Speaker 1]
PlayStation with CD technology, everyone got excited about everything they could store on it. They stored so many things on it. Some games were more than one disc. Some of them had all the way up to five discs even in a single title. I want you in one minute to name as many games on the PS one as possible.
[01:34:05] - [Speaker 1]
Bonus points for multi disc and I'm going to score the most discs not the most games. So with that in mind, one minute on the clock now.
[01:34:16] - [Speaker 0]
I
[01:34:20] - [Speaker 1]
was gonna say something like you have until I finished singing the Pokemon theme song or something along those lines but I figure. You know, like like the second verse of the Pokemon theme song. No ever no one ever talks about that. Everyone knows they wanna be the very best. But no one talks about every challenge along the way.
[01:34:41] - [Speaker 1]
Because I will battle every day to claim my rightful place. And you got thirty seconds. And it's really not the same to sing an acapella, but it it really is one of my favorite theme songs. And it it's it's only contrasted by how much I loathe the original PokeRap. Like it was catchy, but not really.
[01:35:06] - [Speaker 1]
It named named all the Pokemon, but was it really a wrap? Greater minds and funnier minds have have dealt with that than me. So I'll just simply say, time's up. Alright. So
[01:35:21] - [Speaker 0]
does this have a chat function? What what do we yeah. What what do we what do have? Does, Jeff.
[01:35:26] - [Speaker 1]
Fantastic. Trying to think of the best way to be like or take a picture and send it to Discord. Send it to the Discord chat that we've got right now.
[01:35:36] - [Speaker 0]
You got it, Jeff. Anything for you, Jeff.
[01:35:40] - [Speaker 1]
I both appreciate, and I'm very trepidatious about your enthusiasm.
[01:35:46] - [Speaker 0]
I need I need this money, Jeff.
[01:35:48] - [Speaker 1]
I I I know. I know.
[01:35:50] - [Speaker 2]
Alright. Me too. Me too, Jerry. Me too. Some might say even more than you.
[01:35:56] - [Speaker 2]
Some some might say that.
[01:35:57] - [Speaker 0]
Some some might say it, but, like, they're wrong and stuff because they don't know me and my stuff.
[01:36:04] - [Speaker 1]
Alright. So we're gonna we're gonna take a moment here.
[01:36:07] - [Speaker 0]
Legend of Lego. It's Ligaya. It's pronounced Ligaya.
[01:36:13] - [Speaker 1]
I I I'm not even sure Breath of Fire.
[01:36:17] - [Speaker 0]
Three. Alright. For the PlayStation.
[01:36:19] - [Speaker 1]
There we go. How many discs was that? I I had a list of how many of appears I have a deeply incomplete incomplete list of games that have the most oh, come on. I think part of that is because these are all the domestic releases. Let's go.
[01:36:39] - [Speaker 1]
We've got Jeff,
[01:36:41] - [Speaker 2]
I am sweating profusely waiting for the answer, Jeff.
[01:36:43] - [Speaker 1]
I I I know.
[01:36:44] - [Speaker 2]
I need this money more than I need to hold the head or in the arm or leg.
[01:36:51] - [Speaker 1]
Well, I
[01:36:51] - [Speaker 2]
That's where the trucks go.
[01:36:55] - [Speaker 1]
Well well well, Aaron, I'll calculate yours first then. So Final Fantasy seven, eight, and nine, both of you put that down, which is a total of 11 discs already. The Legend of well, Chrono Cross is another two, so that's 13. No one can stop mister Domino, that's true, but he's only got one disc, that's 14. The Let's see.
[01:37:15] - [Speaker 1]
Lunar, we have Silver Star Story Complete is another two. So that is Oh, I'm getting my own thing. That's eleven, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen. Three for two, so seventeen, eighteen, nineteen. Xenogears is two discs.
[01:37:36] - [Speaker 1]
So twenty, twenty one. And the Legend of Dragoon is believe two discs as well. It's
[01:37:48] - [Speaker 0]
four discs.
[01:37:49] - [Speaker 1]
Four discs. That's, I just saw those two pop up. So that gets you to 27 I believe. Alright, fantastic, fantastic. So now we've got, so it's 27 for Aaron.
[01:38:01] - [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna make a mark there because I'm doing a poor job of remembering numbers than I realized. So what we've got here, we've got Final Fantasy VII, nine. That's gonna be 11 discs right there. Chrono Cross, it's another two discs. That's 13.
[01:38:12] - [Speaker 1]
Legend of Dragoon is four discs as established. So, yeah, eleven, thirteen, 17. Legend of Mana, I believe, was only one disc.
[01:38:25] - [Speaker 0]
One disc. One disc,
[01:38:26] - [Speaker 2]
Jeff. Hey.
[01:38:27] - [Speaker 0]
Every
[01:38:27] - [Speaker 2]
game. Every disc counts, Jeff.
[01:38:28] - [Speaker 1]
Every disc counts. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. Legend of Mana is one disc, so yeah.
[01:38:33] - [Speaker 1]
Eleven, thirteen, 17, 18 there. So we're on 18. Legend of Ligaya. Two discer. Is in fact a two discer.
[01:38:45] - [Speaker 1]
Yes. So that is 20. Police knots. I can't remember that's one or two. Fuck.
[01:38:56] - [Speaker 1]
Police.
[01:38:57] - [Speaker 2]
I'm not might I might be fucked here, Jeff.
[01:39:00] - [Speaker 1]
You might be. You might be. I mean, I'm just I'm agreeing with you. So that's another two discs. How many are we up to now?
[01:39:12] - [Speaker 1]
So eleven, thirteen, 15, 19, 20, 20 two. So I got 22, then our Breath of Fire three and Breath of Fire four on 22 right now.
[01:39:26] - [Speaker 0]
Breath of
[01:39:27] - [Speaker 1]
Fire three is
[01:39:31] - [Speaker 0]
me that picture there. No. That is not what you're showing me internet. Stop that.
[01:39:38] - [Speaker 1]
Breath of Fire three is three discs, it seems. So it's 25. And so 25. Breath of Fire four is gonna be two discs. So that is 27 as well.
[01:40:08] - [Speaker 0]
Is that a tie?
[01:40:09] - [Speaker 1]
That is a tie. So I think the way we're gonna break this is who put up the fewest titles. Jerry put up one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 titles. Aaron, you put up one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Which means, Aaron, you are the winner of our final round.
[01:40:31] - [Speaker 1]
You are the winner of the Golden Girls arcade stick. You are the winner of the last few Sega CD cases I've got here. You are the winner of the 13 inch combo TV VCR. You are not the winner of our fine home game. Jerry gets to go home with that as well as three moon shoes.
[01:40:49] - [Speaker 1]
They're all size eight men's. I don't know why there's three of them, but they do all seem to work. It's two left feet and a right foot. You are also the winner of a
[01:40:59] - [Speaker 0]
Put them on my hands.
[01:41:00] - [Speaker 1]
Fantastic. Fantastic. Your other hand can hold this Legends of the Hidden Temple themed podo stick that we also have in the back somewhere. Aaron, you are also the winner of all of the fine disc cleaning turtle wax that we have got. And also the keys to a charred cyber truck.
[01:41:20] - [Speaker 1]
I can't find the truck, but you can have the charred keys.
[01:41:23] - [Speaker 2]
Wait. You I don't want that.
[01:41:26] - [Speaker 1]
You you don't get the truck. You just get keys. The truck doesn't exist anymore.
[01:41:30] - [Speaker 2]
Oh, okay. Cool. I could use those for chiseling.
[01:41:35] - [Speaker 0]
I think
[01:41:35] - [Speaker 1]
you might be able to sell the the the prom the keys as a promise of a cyber truck to someone who wants it and finally pay that child support.
[01:41:43] - [Speaker 0]
I need those I need those keys, please. Yes. I need those keys. More set for me.
[01:41:47] - [Speaker 1]
Are you willing to trade those three moon shoes and the pogo stick and our fabulous home game for those keys?
[01:41:55] - [Speaker 0]
Oh, fuck no. Fuck no.
[01:41:58] - [Speaker 1]
What about your steelbook points? Uh-uh.
[01:42:05] - [Speaker 0]
No. No. I, as of today, I am gonna give up as a Cybertruck salesman.
[01:42:12] - [Speaker 1]
I I
[01:42:13] - [Speaker 0]
I feel like I've I've lived the dream long enough, and today it comes crumbling down.
[01:42:20] - [Speaker 1]
Well, frankly, I think we've all grown a little bit, some more than others, and we have many fine steelbooks
[01:42:26] - [Speaker 2]
that stay
[01:42:27] - [Speaker 1]
on our on our shelves amongst other trophies of triumphs
[01:42:31] - [Speaker 0]
I'll put them right right there. On the
[01:42:34] - [Speaker 1]
First thing on the wall. That right there. Fantastic.
[01:42:37] - [Speaker 2]
That's not
[01:42:38] - [Speaker 0]
a wall. So does it is it a you think it's a wall?
[01:42:41] - [Speaker 1]
It's not a wall. It's Is it a sideways ceiling?
[01:42:46] - [Speaker 2]
He's record he's recording on the ceiling.
[01:42:51] - [Speaker 1]
Have you been working in an endless void and expanse this entire time, or do you live in a kill screen?
[01:42:58] - [Speaker 0]
The producers of this show put me in this I don't even know where I am, dude.
[01:43:03] - [Speaker 1]
And I promise that the producers will be there soon to let you out, but it's speaking of kill screens, it sounds like we've hit a little bit of score overflow here at, retro party night. So or whatever we're calling this right now. So until next time. I'm Jeff Monin, insert point to continue. Good night, everybody.
[01:43:32] - [Speaker 0]
What the fuck do I get out of here?
