[00:00:00] Gents, how are you this fine evening? Cold. It's 22 degrees. Yes, I'm freezing. Yeah. 23 degrees. Where are you based out of? I didn't know. Iowa. Iowa. Unfortunately. Wait, Fahrenheit or Celsius? Celsius, I think. Okay. Fahrenheit, actually. Are you guys all from the States? No, I'm Canadian. So am I! Wait, you're Canadian too? Yeah! Oh shit! No shit! Yeah! Okay. Hell yeah!

[00:00:29] Alright boys, you can get off. Me and Treeky can take it from here. Yeah. We got a lot of moose to talk about.

[00:00:35] Hey! Young man! You got knocked the fuck out! What it do everybody? My name's Aaron. I can eat a whole pumpkin.

[00:00:45] And I'm Jerry and I can only bench press four cubic liters of butter chicken on a good day.

[00:00:49] This is SuperPod Saga. Welcome back to SuperPod Saga. Underwater. Yeah dude, the greatest collaboration of all time.

[00:01:07] Sam, you know it, I know it, Jerry knows it. Jerry, do you still know it?

[00:01:11] I wake up knowing it. Like I just, I don't even like, you know how people normally wake up in the morning and they kind of just roll out of bed? I like levitate out of bed and I'm like, oh my god, it's the greatest collaboration of all time.

[00:01:23] Wonderful. Awesome. Yeah. So for any first time listeners, Jerry and I are on a quest to discuss every single video game topic in existence week by week.

[00:01:31] This week we're talking about the best hub worlds in video games. Those little central areas, the little nooks and crannies to fill out and discover and explore. All that good shit.

[00:01:41] First, we're going to introduce the guests. Returning from our Pokemon Emerald episode that releases at the time of recording next week, we have Kiefer from Select and Start. Hello.

[00:01:53] Hello, I'm Kiefer from Select and Start and I'm back and I'm here to talk about other things besides Pokemon.

[00:01:59] Nice, nice. And then returning from our retro from Soft, I almost said, what's the good version of a train wreck?

[00:02:08] A plane crash?

[00:02:09] A school bus crash?

[00:02:11] Yeah.

[00:02:12] Whatever that is.

[00:02:14] Treaky, hello.

[00:02:14] Are you calling me a train wreck?

[00:02:16] No, no, like the opposite of a train wreck. Like a really good time, really awesome time, but like...

[00:02:21] A miracle?

[00:02:22] A miracle?

[00:02:23] Yeah, I don't know.

[00:02:24] Hey guys, I'm Treaky.

[00:02:27] Treaky.

[00:02:27] The train wreck.

[00:02:29] Treaky the train wreck miracle.

[00:02:31] Yeah, apparently.

[00:02:33] Holy shit.

[00:02:34] Yeah.

[00:02:35] My mom says I'm special.

[00:02:37] That's all that matters.

[00:02:39] Holy shit, boys.

[00:02:40] Go ahead and then introduce yourselves and podcasts and YouTubes and streams, all that good stuff you do.

[00:02:47] Tell us about the games you like, all that stuff.

[00:02:49] Kiefer, you're alphabetical. You can go first.

[00:02:51] All right, thank you.

[00:02:52] Alphabetical seniority reign supreme.

[00:02:54] Let's do it.

[00:02:56] I'm the host of Select and Start, the podcast about meaningful and memorable video games.

[00:03:00] What I do is every episode I bring on a guest who selects a game that made an impact on their life.

[00:03:04] And we talk about that probably for too long, but I love it and they love it and the audience seems to love it.

[00:03:09] So what happens is like I'll bring on a guest.

[00:03:11] Like say, we're trying to get both of y'all on the podcast in the future someday too.

[00:03:14] But like I'll bring on a guest, say like, oh, hey, Hamish Steele, the person who is like the graphic novelist for Dead India Paranormal Park.

[00:03:22] And we talk about The Legend of Zelda, The Wind Waker or something like that.

[00:03:25] So we get to know a person's video game history.

[00:03:28] We talk about what made them decide on talking about the game that means the most to them.

[00:03:32] We talk about the game that means most of them and how they can play it in the modern video game ecosystem.

[00:03:36] Because, oh my God, video game preservation is a fuck.

[00:03:39] So that's Select and Start.

[00:03:41] Listen to it wherever you like to, you know, cast your pods.

[00:03:43] You and I became best friends the second that you started gushing about video game preservation.

[00:03:49] Yeah.

[00:03:49] Oh, yeah.

[00:03:49] That's the reason why we started Retro Rehab and then just merged into this one.

[00:03:55] Yeah.

[00:03:55] Because of that.

[00:03:57] Every segment I do it, I do a segment called No Country for Old Games.

[00:04:00] And it's great.

[00:04:00] Oh, that's a good title.

[00:04:02] Yeah.

[00:04:02] That is good.

[00:04:02] I'm Treaky.

[00:04:03] I am a YouTuber.

[00:04:05] And I make YouTube videos about games in the style of the 2010s YouTuber.

[00:04:11] Goofy bits.

[00:04:12] Game reviews about old retro games.

[00:04:15] I don't know.

[00:04:17] I don't know.

[00:04:18] What am I?

[00:04:19] A train wreck.

[00:04:20] Listen.

[00:04:21] You're a miracle baby.

[00:04:22] I'm a miracle baby.

[00:04:24] I am the flavor of YouTuber that is akin to JonTron, AVGN, trying to be is what I should say.

[00:04:35] I can't say I'm anywhere close to them.

[00:04:37] But that's the type of stuff I do.

[00:04:38] And, you know, I stream sometimes.

[00:04:39] But that's on the main channel and sometimes switch.

[00:04:42] And you can find me at TreakyBoy.

[00:04:44] Just Treaky, I think, actually, on YouTube.

[00:04:47] That's it.

[00:04:47] I have a Castlevania 64 video coming out.

[00:04:50] That's a good fucking game right there.

[00:04:53] It is good.

[00:04:55] I want to get it out before Christmas.

[00:04:56] I don't think that's going to happen, but we'll see.

[00:04:59] Merry Christmas.

[00:04:59] Merry Christmas.

[00:05:01] Merry Christmas.

[00:05:03] Merry Chrysler.

[00:05:05] Merry Chrysler.

[00:05:07] You guys want to play some Castlevania 64?

[00:05:10] Merry Chrysler.

[00:05:11] Merry Chrysler.

[00:05:12] Actually, wait.

[00:05:13] It's Castlevania Legacy of Darkness.

[00:05:15] Tentatively also 64.

[00:05:16] That's the better one, though.

[00:05:17] Yeah, exactly.

[00:05:18] That's the better version.

[00:05:19] I played them both.

[00:05:20] And I was like, wow, playing 64 was a waste of time.

[00:05:24] Yeah, because 64 is in Legacy of Darkness.

[00:05:27] Exactly.

[00:05:27] And I was like, oh, my God.

[00:05:29] Anyway, enough about me.

[00:05:30] But enough talk.

[00:05:31] Enough talk.

[00:05:32] How about you?

[00:05:33] Yeah, let's get right the fuck down to it.

[00:05:35] So, oh, wait.

[00:05:36] They both answered the question, actually.

[00:05:38] You can just ask us again.

[00:05:40] Your dirty mouth.

[00:05:41] I'll answer it again.

[00:05:42] No.

[00:05:43] Ask him a different question, Jerry.

[00:05:46] What is your favorite key on the keyboard?

[00:05:48] Is that for both of us?

[00:05:49] Or do we get like a little bit different?

[00:05:50] I want you both to answer at the same time.

[00:05:52] And if you say the same key at the exact same time, I will give you a present.

[00:05:56] Okay, Kiefer, we have to do this on the count of three.

[00:05:58] I want to see your hands, too.

[00:05:59] No messaging in the chat or anything.

[00:06:02] On the count of three.

[00:06:03] So, one, two, three.

[00:06:06] W.

[00:06:07] Gee.

[00:06:07] Okay.

[00:06:08] Oh.

[00:06:10] Three?

[00:06:10] Yeah.

[00:06:11] Fuck.

[00:06:12] I'm the one who made the rule, and I got it wrong.

[00:06:14] Gee.

[00:06:15] W.

[00:06:15] You know what's really fucked up, though?

[00:06:16] You know what's really fucked up?

[00:06:18] What?

[00:06:18] You both said my first two initials of my name.

[00:06:23] Yeah.

[00:06:24] Damn.

[00:06:24] See?

[00:06:24] That deserves a present.

[00:06:26] It's a little weird, but I do feel like it deserves a present.

[00:06:30] So, Aaron, if you want to close your eyes, I'm going to take my top off.

[00:06:34] Damn it.

[00:06:34] Okay.

[00:06:35] Woo!

[00:06:38] Cover my ears, too.

[00:06:39] This is for, uh, not for kids.

[00:06:41] No, stay.

[00:06:42] I want you to hear this.

[00:06:44] This is crazy.

[00:06:46] That was a great question.

[00:06:47] Yeah.

[00:06:49] Like an AI generated, or not, the, uh, the Macintosh text-to-speech thing comes on.

[00:06:54] It's like, macaroni noises initiate.

[00:06:57] Oh, God.

[00:06:59] What is my purpose?

[00:07:01] What is my purpose?

[00:07:02] But it's like text-to-speech version of that, so it's like, squash, squash, squash, squash.

[00:07:09] Squash.

[00:07:10] Undulation begins.

[00:07:12] Yep.

[00:07:17] Yep.

[00:07:17] Now we go to super important breaking news.

[00:07:19] Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.

[00:07:20] So, uh, first off, holy shit, Nintendo Switch has outsold PS2 in the United States.

[00:07:26] Not, not the world, just the United States.

[00:07:28] So, the, uh, Switch has sold 46.6 million units total.

[00:07:33] 46.6 million units total in the U.S.

[00:07:35] Uh, worldwide.

[00:07:36] It's sold 146 mil, whereas the PS2 has sold 160 mil.

[00:07:41] It's so close.

[00:07:42] It's like, it's insane.

[00:07:43] Yeah, dude.

[00:07:44] Yeah.

[00:07:45] Do you think a Switch 2 is going to do better?

[00:07:47] It's, oh, I don't think it will.

[00:07:49] I'm not so much worried about it doing better.

[00:07:52] I'm like, I cannot wait to see if Nintendo, after making this just immense amount of money,

[00:07:59] still have sticks that drift.

[00:08:02] Like, if this is still a problem, like, how much money do we need to give you for you to

[00:08:08] make good sticks?

[00:08:09] Nice.

[00:08:09] I have, these are all of my, my drift controllers.

[00:08:13] So, fun fact, I'll tell you what you do with those, okay?

[00:08:16] I, I, I was going to send them back.

[00:08:18] Okay, no, don't, don't do that, don't do that.

[00:08:20] Here's, here's a little, here's a little hat for, and for the listeners at home too, listen

[00:08:24] up, okay?

[00:08:24] What you do with these is you bring them to a GameStop, okay?

[00:08:29] And you trade them in toward brand new ones, because they don't give a shit.

[00:08:36] They'll be like, oh, this looks good.

[00:08:38] Jerry, are you saying that I should undermine Nintendo?

[00:08:43] Yes.

[00:08:44] And thereby God?

[00:08:46] Yeah.

[00:08:48] Miyamoto-san himself would be so disappointed in you saying that?

[00:08:53] My uncle who works at Nintendo is going to be so disappointed in me.

[00:08:56] Yeah.

[00:08:57] Kiefer's uncle.

[00:08:58] Yeah.

[00:08:58] Who works at Nintendo.

[00:08:59] Uncle Nintendo.

[00:09:00] Yeah, Uncle Nintendo.

[00:09:01] Uncle N, as you always call him.

[00:09:03] Oh, I'm Uncle Nintendo.

[00:09:05] Can I please have a free gift card for Christmas?

[00:09:08] You bet.

[00:09:08] He's my uncle and the game master.

[00:09:10] Yeah.

[00:09:10] Oh, shit.

[00:09:12] No, but for realsies, bring those to a GameStop and trade them in towards new ones.

[00:09:16] I need a box though, I think.

[00:09:17] Oh, wait.

[00:09:17] Can you just trade them in?

[00:09:18] Yes.

[00:09:19] Really?

[00:09:20] Just straight up trade them in.

[00:09:21] I think, and I'm pretty sure you'll get like fucking $40 for them.

[00:09:24] Yeah, but just put it on a Ziploc bag and put it on the shelf and be like, who wants

[00:09:27] them?

[00:09:28] Put it in some rice.

[00:09:29] Yeah.

[00:09:30] It might work, you know, I don't know.

[00:09:31] Yeah.

[00:09:32] Like.

[00:09:32] Sure.

[00:09:33] That's the best thing to do.

[00:09:34] Because they said.

[00:09:35] They suck.

[00:09:35] They send them off anyway to get refurbished.

[00:09:39] Yeah.

[00:09:39] So if they have anything wrong with them, which they do, but they don't know that, they're

[00:09:43] going to get them fixed regardless.

[00:09:45] So instead of wasting time, sending it to Japan, which I don't know if it goes to Japan, probably

[00:09:53] just.

[00:09:53] I think it must.

[00:09:54] North America.

[00:09:55] Oh yeah, that's true.

[00:09:56] Or somewhere.

[00:09:56] There's probably like.

[00:09:57] Doug Bowser himself.

[00:09:58] That guy who's like forced to be an indentured servant for Nintendo forever is forced to.

[00:10:03] Another fashion.

[00:10:04] Effective Joy-Con.

[00:10:05] See, I'm Doug Bowser.

[00:10:07] He's just like pulling apart.

[00:10:09] God.

[00:10:11] Where, where's that man Nintendo and his stupid nephew send?

[00:10:15] He's demanding more of these stupid.

[00:10:17] Yeah.

[00:10:17] Mr. Nantando.

[00:10:20] Jesus Christ.

[00:10:21] Yeah.

[00:10:21] That's my job.

[00:10:21] His job is to like eat the, the, the stick drift Nintendo, like switch controllers.

[00:10:25] And then he like sends them new ones.

[00:10:27] Wait, he eats them?

[00:10:28] He eats them?

[00:10:29] Yeah.

[00:10:29] He eats them.

[00:10:30] They have an nutrition value.

[00:10:31] It's true.

[00:10:32] Okay.

[00:10:32] Okay.

[00:10:32] I probably like.

[00:10:34] Do you guys.

[00:10:34] Okay.

[00:10:34] This is kind of sound like really, really weird, but.

[00:10:37] No.

[00:10:38] Tell me.

[00:10:38] I remember as a kid, there was this like really crazy looking purple car in our neighborhood.

[00:10:44] And I wanted to eat the car because I liked the color of it.

[00:10:48] And I was like, I bet you that car tastes delicious.

[00:10:50] And like some of those Joy-Cons actually look like they would be delicious.

[00:10:53] Oh my God.

[00:10:53] I was.

[00:10:54] That's why they had to make the amiibo and like the switch cartridges taste like shit.

[00:10:59] Well, the amiibo is fit perfectly in your mouth.

[00:11:01] Actually.

[00:11:02] Yeah.

[00:11:02] Have you seen the Pac-Man one, dude?

[00:11:03] It's just like a.

[00:11:04] Yeah.

[00:11:04] If you just put the.

[00:11:05] It's perfect.

[00:11:06] I have almost every smash bros one.

[00:11:08] I've stuck every single one of them in my mouth.

[00:11:09] I will never forget when the switch was coming out and Jeff Gertzman took that switch game

[00:11:15] and put it in his mouth.

[00:11:16] He was the one that did that first.

[00:11:19] He.

[00:11:19] Someone was like.

[00:11:20] Wait, what?

[00:11:21] Yeah.

[00:11:21] He just like someone was like, what does it taste like?

[00:11:23] And he was like, it's a weird question.

[00:11:25] And he just like popped it in his mouth.

[00:11:26] He's like tastes really bad.

[00:11:28] And then that's when they realized that it's they're coded in like a like switch games

[00:11:32] are coded in a thing to deter children from eating them.

[00:11:36] Yeah.

[00:11:36] Just pop one.

[00:11:36] It tastes like broccoli.

[00:11:38] Okay.

[00:11:38] I'm sorry.

[00:11:39] Are you just now finding this out seven years in?

[00:11:42] No, I tasted mine day one, dude.

[00:11:44] They were single one.

[00:11:45] I taste just to make sure.

[00:11:46] It's a beautiful thing.

[00:11:47] I straight up.

[00:11:48] I like.

[00:11:48] Okay.

[00:11:49] I thought I was the only person who hadn't tasted a Nintendo switch cartridge at

[00:11:52] this point because I always tell people and the first thing they do is put it in

[00:11:54] their mouth.

[00:11:56] It's going to be gross.

[00:11:57] It's going to be gross.

[00:11:58] I just want to know.

[00:11:59] Okay.

[00:11:59] So Final Fantasy seven and eight.

[00:12:02] I mean, that's a it's a gross combo.

[00:12:05] I haven't.

[00:12:06] Don't lick the connectors.

[00:12:09] Oh, yeah.

[00:12:12] Oh, my God.

[00:12:13] It tastes like poison.

[00:12:16] Joke's on you.

[00:12:17] It is.

[00:12:19] Now you have.

[00:12:22] This doesn't even feel like a prank.

[00:12:23] Like we actively warned you.

[00:12:26] It's listen.

[00:12:27] It's on me.

[00:12:27] I didn't believe you.

[00:12:29] I was like, no, it's a video game, but they don't taste.

[00:12:31] It tastes terrible.

[00:12:33] That's why.

[00:12:34] Because kids be stuck in my.

[00:12:35] It's stuck in my mouth.

[00:12:36] It's like.

[00:12:37] Could you.

[00:12:37] Could you imagine if they made different games?

[00:12:39] Oh, you have different flavors and shit.

[00:12:41] Like maybe the Kirby ones taste like bubble gum or something.

[00:12:44] Yeah.

[00:12:47] It's lingering.

[00:12:48] That's the issue.

[00:12:49] And now I'm worried.

[00:12:50] Maybe it is.

[00:12:50] No.

[00:12:50] That's that Final Fantasy 8 aftertaste.

[00:12:53] Yeah.

[00:12:53] Jeff Christmas.

[00:12:54] So I've actually liked Final Fantasy 8, by the way.

[00:12:57] Don't write it.

[00:12:57] I know.

[00:12:58] I like Final Fantasy.

[00:12:59] It's cool.

[00:13:00] Yeah.

[00:13:00] Yeah.

[00:13:00] I like it.

[00:13:01] Yeah.

[00:13:01] There's a little.

[00:13:02] My favorite Final Fantasy is Final Fantasy 1.

[00:13:04] So.

[00:13:05] Well, we'll have to introduce you to Beth because her favorite is 2.

[00:13:10] I think 2 is great.

[00:13:11] I've never met somebody who said their favorite is 5.

[00:13:13] Do those people exist?

[00:13:14] There's got to be.

[00:13:15] I think so.

[00:13:15] I mean, the main character's names Butts.

[00:13:18] Isn't it Barts?

[00:13:18] Barts, actually.

[00:13:19] It's Barts.

[00:13:20] It's not a diss on like 5.

[00:13:21] I'm just like, I've never heard anybody just say their favorite is 5.

[00:13:24] I think because 5 is so.

[00:13:27] It's in that like weird spot of being between 4 and 6, which were both.

[00:13:31] Exactly.

[00:13:32] Groundbreaking at the time.

[00:13:33] And then.

[00:13:34] Exactly.

[00:13:35] I'd do be how numbers work.

[00:13:36] Yeah.

[00:13:37] Yeah.

[00:13:38] Yeah.

[00:13:38] 5 is in the middle.

[00:13:40] 5 is like, it truly is like a middle point between 4 and 6.

[00:13:46] And I know.

[00:13:48] 5 is so weird, dude.

[00:13:49] Because it's like.

[00:13:50] It's like not 6, but it's also not 4.

[00:13:53] It's not quite 4 yet.

[00:13:54] Why was 6 afraid of 7?

[00:13:57] Well, you know why 3 was afraid of 4 is because 4, 5, 6.

[00:14:01] What?

[00:14:02] Think about it.

[00:14:02] The look on Aaron's face.

[00:14:05] What's for you?

[00:14:07] It was like your face made what I would think.

[00:14:11] 789 trigger.

[00:14:11] That's the answer to the joke.

[00:14:12] Like if a dial tone had a face, that's what it would look like.

[00:14:15] Yeah.

[00:14:17] Yeah.

[00:14:18] Please hang up and try your call again.

[00:14:21] We're sorry.

[00:14:22] The call you're trying to reach is fucking dead.

[00:14:25] Oh my God.

[00:14:26] Did you guys do a Final Fantasy video yet?

[00:14:28] Yeah.

[00:14:29] We did.

[00:14:30] We did a retrospective on like the entire Final Fantasy series, but we'll have to do one about

[00:14:34] like the individual games though.

[00:14:36] Because we didn't really do.

[00:14:37] I want to rank the Chocobos and Moogles in the games.

[00:14:40] Oh.

[00:14:41] Yeah.

[00:14:42] I can already tell you the best Moogles right now.

[00:14:44] It's Crystal Chronicles.

[00:14:45] They are.

[00:14:45] They carry your chalice, bro.

[00:14:47] They carry your pimp chalice the entire way.

[00:14:49] They're great.

[00:14:50] They're my face.

[00:14:50] The best Moogle is the one in Kingdom Hearts 358 over two days that wears a little Organization

[00:14:56] 13 hoodie.

[00:14:57] Oh, that's awesome.

[00:14:58] That's the best one.

[00:14:58] That's awesome, dude.

[00:14:59] Don't do this, Kiefer.

[00:15:00] Yeah.

[00:15:06] I have some news as well.

[00:15:08] Is it about Moogles?

[00:15:09] No.

[00:15:10] It's about a little console you guys might have heard of called the PlayStation Portable.

[00:15:17] For $274.99, you can get a consolized version of the PlayStation Portable.

[00:15:23] Wait, what?

[00:15:24] Yes.

[00:15:25] There is now, if you buy a, let me see what this article is.

[00:15:30] Wait, like Sony's making it?

[00:15:32] No.

[00:15:33] Fuck.

[00:15:34] No.

[00:15:34] It wouldn't be called it.

[00:15:35] Stay out, dude.

[00:15:36] No.

[00:15:37] This is, you know, as Kiefer and I were saying earlier, this is part of video game preservation.

[00:15:41] And it's just the cool stuff that people are doing to be like, hey, you know, Sony doesn't

[00:15:48] give a shit about the PSP.

[00:15:49] So people do.

[00:15:51] There's people out there that that's their favorite handheld of all time.

[00:15:54] That's amazing.

[00:15:54] And yes, it has an amazing library.

[00:15:57] Now, this thing, it's basically just like a 3D printed case that you can order.

[00:16:03] What the fuck?

[00:16:03] That the, you get a PSP.

[00:16:06] I think it has to be either the original fat model and the model after that, because you

[00:16:10] have to be able to mod them.

[00:16:11] And then you put them in to this thing and just like connect all the shit to it.

[00:16:16] And then it just acts as a, and it'll actually read the UMDs in like a disk drive.

[00:16:21] Like there's like a little pop up.

[00:16:23] Holy shit.

[00:16:24] Oh my God.

[00:16:24] Yes.

[00:16:25] It's really cool.

[00:16:26] But I will say there's a couple of caveats to it.

[00:16:29] I guess pairing like Bluetooth controllers and stuff is like done through like a web based

[00:16:34] thing.

[00:16:35] That's like caked into the thing.

[00:16:36] It might get updated at some point.

[00:16:38] Who knows?

[00:16:38] I would say still to this day, like I have, Aaron, I don't know if I've ever showed you

[00:16:44] this.

[00:16:44] I have like what I call a blueprint for my ultimate setup for like all covering all my bases.

[00:16:51] Like, and it's basically going from gen one all the way up to and including Xbox 360

[00:16:57] and PS3 that like that generation talked about before gen seven, I think.

[00:17:02] And among all that stuff to really capture PSP and PS Vita.

[00:17:08] I don't like, I like them as handhelds.

[00:17:11] I've had both of them as handhelds, but I like to have in my like really nice like entertainment

[00:17:16] room.

[00:17:17] I like to have all my consoles available to me just like there.

[00:17:21] And one of the best ways that you can do that is actually getting one of the stupidest

[00:17:26] things that Sony ever put out is now probably the thing I want the most.

[00:17:30] And it's the PlayStation TV.

[00:17:31] That's what because you can mod a PlayStation TV and it literally acts as a PSP and a PS

[00:17:37] Vita.

[00:17:37] Not only that, you can use a dual dual shock four and the touchpad on the dual shock

[00:17:42] four acts as the touch screen on the Vita.

[00:17:44] Oh, oh my God.

[00:17:46] And can you still access the PSP e-store on the PlayStation home?

[00:17:52] Not after it's because you would have to mod it.

[00:17:55] Well, oh yeah.

[00:17:57] I guess.

[00:17:57] But if you want to get, I don't think so.

[00:18:00] I think that's, I think that ship has sailed.

[00:18:02] So like literally the only thing great about it is the fact that you can mod it, stick like

[00:18:07] a one terabyte micro SD into it and then just be like PSP and Vita games go.

[00:18:12] I'd play so much Freedom Unite.

[00:18:14] Oh my God.

[00:18:15] Could you mod that thing to allow emulation of like PS1 and like maybe PS2 games?

[00:18:23] Oh yeah.

[00:18:23] Oh, okay.

[00:18:24] That'd be fucking tight.

[00:18:24] Not PS2.

[00:18:25] PS1 for sure though.

[00:18:27] You could play PS1 games.

[00:18:29] I remember.

[00:18:29] The PS1 classics.

[00:18:30] Yeah.

[00:18:31] They had like Resident, I remember playing Resident Evil 1 on it.

[00:18:33] Yeah.

[00:18:34] That's pretty tight then.

[00:18:35] It's funny.

[00:18:36] You mentioned like a, you know, consolized version of the PSP.

[00:18:39] And I thought like, you mean the PS2?

[00:18:40] The thing that half the PSP library was ported on to.

[00:18:44] It does look like a PS2.

[00:18:45] This little thingy.

[00:18:47] That's huge.

[00:18:48] Yeah.

[00:18:49] It's cool.

[00:18:49] I love seeing stuff like that.

[00:18:52] Hell yeah.

[00:18:52] Finally, we can play Dissidia Final Fantasy.

[00:18:54] See what the Moogles are like in that one.

[00:18:56] Exactly.

[00:18:58] Oh man.

[00:18:58] I remember playing Dissidia on PSP for the first time and they were pronouncing Zidane

[00:19:03] as Zidane and I was like, no.

[00:19:06] No.

[00:19:06] Zidane.

[00:19:08] Zidane.

[00:19:08] Yeah, Zidane.

[00:19:09] Like, bitch, there's an E at the end.

[00:19:10] What are you talking about?

[00:19:13] Jekt was in that game, right?

[00:19:14] Yeah.

[00:19:15] Yeah.

[00:19:15] Because he was the evil, I guess, antagonist for X in that game.

[00:19:22] Because it's pronounced Gakt.

[00:19:24] I remember getting...

[00:19:25] Is it Gakt?

[00:19:26] No.

[00:19:27] Okay.

[00:19:27] I was going to say, oh my God.

[00:19:29] I haven't gone on Jekt anyway.

[00:19:31] I just remember getting my ass kicked in that game by him, but I don't remember if it

[00:19:35] was my friend playing it or if it was just an NPC.

[00:19:37] It was a pretty fucking tough game, man.

[00:19:40] Like, I mained Kuja and even that was hard.

[00:19:44] Trying to maine anybody is fucking hard.

[00:19:45] Everybody's got a different fighting style.

[00:19:47] It's Dissidia Final Fantasy.

[00:19:49] I don't remember.

[00:19:50] I don't remember, man.

[00:19:51] Why are you so upset about it?

[00:19:52] Were you a Dissidia Final Fantasy PSP player or a Mario Hoops 3 on 3DS player?

[00:19:57] Mario Hoops.

[00:19:58] Yeah.

[00:19:59] Bring that shit back, dude.

[00:20:01] Come on.

[00:20:01] I'm going to be the Moogle in that game.

[00:20:03] Dude, he's cactoring.

[00:20:04] He could be a fucking cactoring.

[00:20:05] Mario Def Jam fighter.

[00:20:06] Mario Def Jam.

[00:20:08] Okay.

[00:20:09] Okay.

[00:20:10] Hold on.

[00:20:10] Idea cooking.

[00:20:12] So, yeah.

[00:20:13] Def Jam, Mario, but you've got like bumping beats to like different Mario songs.

[00:20:18] Like hip hoppy, like Def Jam, Mario remixes.

[00:20:21] There's a Mario DDR.

[00:20:22] Did you watch the video I sent you of the Nintendo dubstep, the new genre that's happening?

[00:20:27] No, but this is Def Jam.

[00:20:28] Like Vendetta with Mario.

[00:20:31] And Dr. Dre.

[00:20:33] Yeah.

[00:20:33] And Ice Cube.

[00:20:35] They're fighting around like trash can fires and outside gas stations and shit.

[00:20:43] I'd play it.

[00:20:44] Like, I don't, you know.

[00:20:45] Grabbing like homeless people by the ankles and using them as weapons and stuff.

[00:20:50] Mario's got a fucking gun.

[00:20:53] This is Mario Rabbids.

[00:20:54] You're just rebaking Mario Rabbids.

[00:20:56] Oh, shit.

[00:20:56] You just see what we do in a fentanyl fold in the background.

[00:21:01] Again, Mario Rabbids.

[00:21:02] Yeah.

[00:21:05] Oh, boy.

[00:21:20] So, let's get to the topic, man.

[00:21:22] We're talking about the best hub worlds.

[00:21:26] And not just Chicago, as we were talking about just now.

[00:21:33] The melting pot of the world, one might say.

[00:21:35] I don't know.

[00:21:37] Chicago.

[00:21:37] Chicago.

[00:21:39] Hell yeah.

[00:21:40] I love it.

[00:21:41] It's the whole.

[00:21:42] It's the New York City of America.

[00:21:43] No, I do want a preference.

[00:21:45] I do.

[00:21:45] I do want a preference.

[00:21:47] I was gonna have a little game to play.

[00:21:50] Because I did that last time.

[00:21:52] We gotta do it at the beginning before we do anything else.

[00:21:54] No, no, no.

[00:21:55] I don't have it.

[00:21:56] We're not gonna fuck that up again.

[00:21:56] I don't have it.

[00:21:57] It's the perfect game.

[00:21:59] But I realize that because this is a podcast and only the patrons get to see our beautiful

[00:22:04] faces, it might not lend itself to the normies.

[00:22:10] What I was gonna do is I was gonna show you guys a picture.

[00:22:16] Of what?

[00:22:18] He's getting to a cherry.

[00:22:19] Hold on.

[00:22:19] Jerry, you know.

[00:22:20] No, I was gonna show a picture of a hub world, like a tiny snippet, like a tiny little small

[00:22:26] little thing.

[00:22:27] And then I would say, guess it.

[00:22:29] And we were gonna do that.

[00:22:30] And then whoever had the most points, you know, gets doesn't have to put a switch game in their

[00:22:34] mouth.

[00:22:36] Okay.

[00:22:37] But because it's a visual thing, I was like, you know what?

[00:22:40] I'm not gonna do it because it's not gonna be fun to listen to.

[00:22:45] So.

[00:22:47] That's fair.

[00:22:47] That's it.

[00:22:48] That's all I was gonna tell you.

[00:22:50] Wonderful.

[00:22:51] Well, just for, well, thanks for setting up that game that we're not gonna play.

[00:22:56] That sounds really fun.

[00:22:59] Thanks, mom, for telling me we're going to Disneyland someday.

[00:23:04] Oh, boy.

[00:23:05] Kiefer, Tricky, which one of you dudes wants to go first?

[00:23:07] Kiefer can go first.

[00:23:09] Uh-huh.

[00:23:09] Alphabetical seniority wins again.

[00:23:11] Yep.

[00:23:12] And it ain't ever gonna stop.

[00:23:13] All right.

[00:23:14] I want to start very strong at the top here.

[00:23:17] Talk about maybe, so like hub worlds, right?

[00:23:20] I think that the beauty of a good hub world is that it complements the mechanics of the game

[00:23:25] that it's working within.

[00:23:26] And one of the first ones I want to talk about is Mother Base in Metal Gear Solid V, The Phantom

[00:23:32] Pain.

[00:23:33] Oh, yeah.

[00:23:33] Which it takes the mechanics that are going on in the PSP, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker,

[00:23:40] where you're like building a base and like have like, you know, accumulating wealth in

[00:23:45] like the private military industry.

[00:23:47] But also you actually get to see the fruits of your labor and see your base expand and

[00:23:52] see the number of troops that you have grow.

[00:23:54] And you can pick up a guy and then flip them on his back.

[00:23:58] And then he'll thank you for it because you're the fucking big boss, baby.

[00:24:02] Thanks, boss.

[00:24:03] Yeah.

[00:24:03] Like when you take someone in like the field and then cause just comes in and he goes,

[00:24:07] you're taking him.

[00:24:08] And you're like, yeah.

[00:24:12] It's fantastic.

[00:24:14] No.

[00:24:15] No.

[00:24:15] No.

[00:24:15] As you.

[00:24:16] So Aaron Andrew, you guys haven't played MGS five.

[00:24:18] Yes.

[00:24:19] I have.

[00:24:20] I haven't got very far.

[00:24:22] Okay.

[00:24:23] Yeah.

[00:24:23] I'm the one dumb piece of shit that hasn't played it before.

[00:24:26] But because mother base, like it's on my list too, because it is everything Kiefer said.

[00:24:33] It is.

[00:24:33] It just compliments the game so well, but also it like gets bigger and you can drive around

[00:24:39] it.

[00:24:40] Oh yeah.

[00:24:40] And you can watch quiet, take baths and look at her feet.

[00:24:45] And it's very weird that they put that in the game.

[00:24:48] But I was going to play this tonight.

[00:24:50] Maybe I'm going to throw it on again.

[00:24:51] You can play.

[00:24:52] Maybe it's just on my ride.

[00:24:53] Yeah.

[00:24:54] Yeah.

[00:24:55] You can do a lot of innocent things there, but also there's some weird pervy things going

[00:24:59] on in mother base too, but you can take a shower.

[00:25:02] That's a big part of the game is you can take a shower because your character gets stinky

[00:25:05] if they don't shower for days at a time, because Kojima thought about that.

[00:25:08] What the.

[00:25:09] And they can't, can't people smell you?

[00:25:11] Yeah.

[00:25:11] They're like boss, you stink.

[00:25:12] And like, I think eventually what happens is like, if you don't shower, like the people

[00:25:17] will like force you to take a shower.

[00:25:18] What the enemies could smell you?

[00:25:20] Like if you're hiding in a bush, they'll go, what's that smell?

[00:25:23] Yeah.

[00:25:23] They can smell you.

[00:25:24] And that's like why if you don't go back, eventually they'll force you to take a shower.

[00:25:29] It's so good.

[00:25:29] Sounds like deadly premonition almost.

[00:25:31] Holy shit.

[00:25:32] I don't know.

[00:25:33] MGS.

[00:25:33] Like MGS five is like the height of MGS mechanics.

[00:25:38] I think it is the cookie dough of video games because it is like mechanically it is like

[00:25:43] perfect, but it is like under baked in terms of like the narrative.

[00:25:47] A hundred percent like that.

[00:25:48] But like the ingredients are there.

[00:25:49] It is one of the most like mechanically fluid video games you can ever play.

[00:25:52] That engine is incredible and only used for soccer games, unfortunately.

[00:25:55] But man, like it is mechanically unimpeachable.

[00:25:59] It is crazy.

[00:26:00] Oh, another thing about mother base.

[00:26:01] That's really cool is on your birthday.

[00:26:04] You'll, if you're playing the game, you'll get a call and it'll be like cause and be like

[00:26:08] boss, come back to base.

[00:26:10] That's snake, but whatever.

[00:26:11] And then you'll get on the plane and you think something bad's happening.

[00:26:15] And when you, when you land, everyone's there and they're like, happy birthday.

[00:26:20] And they said, dude, it's amazing.

[00:26:23] That game is, oh man.

[00:26:24] Mother base is outer heaven.

[00:26:28] I don't know.

[00:26:29] It's just the lolly.

[00:26:31] Lele.

[00:26:32] Lele.

[00:26:32] Do you guys don't.

[00:26:34] I know about Lolly.

[00:26:35] Yeah.

[00:26:35] Okay.

[00:26:36] Yeah.

[00:26:36] Fun fact about that thing is that there is a page on the metal gear wiki just titled

[00:26:42] birthday.

[00:26:44] So, and the paragraph is a birthday is an occasion when a person or institution celebrates the

[00:26:49] anniversary of their birth.

[00:26:50] It's not to be confused with a birth date, which details the exact date a person was born.

[00:26:56] So yeah, that's, um, that is a, that is a page on the metal gear wiki.

[00:26:59] It's quite the video game.

[00:27:00] Only Kojima is a visionary.

[00:27:02] I gotta say, I know he's probably not running the wiki, but I mean,

[00:27:06] I, I recently beat metal gear solid one for the first time.

[00:27:12] Nice.

[00:27:12] Yeah.

[00:27:13] And after I finished that, I immediately started to and then like halfway through two, I was

[00:27:19] like, oh, I, I get now why Kojima sucks his own D so much.

[00:27:27] Yeah.

[00:27:28] Are you saying this in the episode?

[00:27:29] Like he hops his own farts.

[00:27:31] I get it now.

[00:27:32] Like he can bottle his own shit and I would probably sample it because you have to finish

[00:27:39] too.

[00:27:40] Yeah, I know.

[00:27:41] I know.

[00:27:42] I'm like halfway through it right now.

[00:27:44] And my other buddy just started.

[00:27:45] He, I literally woke up this morning to a message.

[00:27:47] He was like, dude, you started metal gear solid two.

[00:27:50] Right.

[00:27:51] And I was like, yeah.

[00:27:51] And he's like, I, I played last night for like an hour and a half.

[00:27:54] I could not put it down.

[00:27:55] I was like, I know dude.

[00:27:56] Like, and see, I recently had a discussion with Greg and Beth about how I do not like

[00:28:05] stealth games.

[00:28:06] I think stealth is a dated mechanic that is poorly implemented.

[00:28:11] And Hey, guess what?

[00:28:13] Newsflash that new Indiana Jones game suck my dick because it is like fucking a 1999 stealth

[00:28:21] game.

[00:28:21] Like it's just like Xbox three 60 era stealth game.

[00:28:25] Like, yeah, it doesn't do anything interesting.

[00:28:29] And I haven't played it.

[00:28:30] So the exception to the rule are these metal gear games because it feels fucking right.

[00:28:35] Like that's the way that you do it.

[00:28:37] And like, there's so many things that are happening within that game and the engine and everything.

[00:28:45] Like, it's just, yeah, you're absolutely right.

[00:28:47] How metal gear solid five, even though I haven't played a lot of it, it is that undercooked cookie.

[00:28:54] Like, yeah, it could have been like, I can't even imagine what that game would have been

[00:28:58] if they would have just let Kojima be.

[00:29:02] If Kojima just put his balls on the wall, dude, and fucking twerk, it would have been

[00:29:07] That was the cut ending was that was the twerking and balls.

[00:29:10] That was the balls on the wall twerking.

[00:29:13] It was the UFO ending of Metal Gear Solid 5.

[00:29:17] Yeah.

[00:29:17] But I mean, I like I still to this day, people will be like, oh, did you play Death Stranding?

[00:29:22] I'm like, yep.

[00:29:22] And they're like, did you like it?

[00:29:23] Yep.

[00:29:24] What'd you like about it?

[00:29:25] I don't know.

[00:29:26] Yeah.

[00:29:27] It just worked.

[00:29:28] Did you like it though?

[00:29:29] Or did you not like it?

[00:29:29] Oh, I loved it.

[00:29:30] What did you like about it?

[00:29:32] I like walking and I liked it when all my things fell over and then I got mad and then

[00:29:37] I would have to go and pick them up and then walk again.

[00:29:40] And then sometimes muck things would come out of the ground and the baby would get mad.

[00:29:44] And then sometimes people would say really stupid shit.

[00:29:47] Like, I'm not that fragile.

[00:29:49] I'm just fragile.

[00:29:51] And I was like, what the fuck?

[00:29:53] Yeah, this is my shit.

[00:29:54] And they're like, that sounds so stupid.

[00:29:55] I'm like, it really is stupid.

[00:29:56] And they're like, but I thought you like it.

[00:29:57] I'm like, I love it.

[00:29:58] But whenever my friend, I asked my friend what he likes about it.

[00:30:01] Cause he's the same thing.

[00:30:01] He's like, I don't know.

[00:30:02] And he just goes, I, he just goes, I like flinging piss and shit.

[00:30:07] And I'm like, wow, that's so valid.

[00:30:10] It's not even funny.

[00:30:12] I do like when you try to look at Norman Reedus's dick.

[00:30:15] He just like takes the camera and like lifts it up and he's like, Hey, right here.

[00:30:22] Nice.

[00:30:22] Nice.

[00:30:23] Well, anyway, hub worlds, right?

[00:30:26] Norman Reedus's dick.

[00:30:29] Sure is.

[00:30:30] I have a whole, I have a whole bunch.

[00:30:32] You picked a couple.

[00:30:34] Well, here's the thing.

[00:30:36] I always get nervous before I do this podcast.

[00:30:38] I feel like I'm not going to have enough to talk about.

[00:30:40] And then I realized that four people talking in a room creates conversation and conversation

[00:30:45] lasts longer than anyway.

[00:30:48] I wasn't ready to talk about Norman's Reedus Reed.

[00:30:51] So like, no idea.

[00:30:52] I know Norman Reedus fetus or Norman Reedus.

[00:30:55] Norman Reedus is rod.

[00:30:57] Yes.

[00:30:58] Moga village from monster hunter three.

[00:31:01] Oh, I love a good village in monster hunter.

[00:31:03] Dude.

[00:31:03] I think, I think really any village in monster hunter is.

[00:31:08] Yes.

[00:31:08] That is a correct answer is, uh, especially the one in rise.

[00:31:12] Yep.

[00:31:13] Yep.

[00:31:13] I put down rise and, and world do those are so good because they are the epitome of, I

[00:31:21] guess they're, you know what?

[00:31:23] No, I'm saying that they're not the epitome of a hub world.

[00:31:25] Are they?

[00:31:26] I mean, you come back to them after missions.

[00:31:29] Yeah.

[00:31:29] You always go back.

[00:31:30] I mean, they are a hub world a hundred percent.

[00:31:33] Um, I mean, just walk me through this right quick.

[00:31:37] I'm pumping the brakes.

[00:31:39] So, so a hub world to me.

[00:31:42] So think about crash bandicoot, the warp room.

[00:31:44] Yeah.

[00:31:45] Right.

[00:31:46] That's a hub world because you were going to different worlds in a hub.

[00:31:52] Moga village is a base of operation.

[00:31:55] It's a BOS.

[00:31:56] But you then go to do different missions.

[00:32:00] No, you're right.

[00:32:01] No, you're right.

[00:32:01] Hey guys, this is me rambling.

[00:32:03] Yeah.

[00:32:03] It's a hub world.

[00:32:04] Moga village is probably my favorite one though, because it's like, if you guys played

[00:32:10] monster hunter try or, or three, you or any of the third ones that place is you, it

[00:32:18] indirectly changes as you play.

[00:32:20] So the whole quest of monster, at least the first half is you're figuring out why there's

[00:32:26] these like earthquakes happening.

[00:32:28] And Moga village is right on the sea and they're basically dealing with earthquakes and like

[00:32:33] tsunamis and stuff.

[00:32:34] So like, okay, this is a problem.

[00:32:35] And so you, you go through the game and eventually find out there's an elder dragon that's grinding

[00:32:39] its horn on the like bottom side of the island.

[00:32:43] And if you don't stop that Moga village will be destroyed.

[00:32:47] So you're, you're going all over the world, but always coming back to this beautiful little,

[00:32:54] I don't know.

[00:32:54] It's so pastoral, so beautiful, but you want to, you want to preserve it so bad because

[00:32:58] it's just, it's just your little baby.

[00:33:01] You know?

[00:33:02] Anyway, I love it.

[00:33:03] Yeah, man.

[00:33:04] I have nothing more to say about it other than that.

[00:33:07] I like getting the, the Palicos to make me food.

[00:33:09] Yeah, dude.

[00:33:10] And Rise.

[00:33:12] Yeah.

[00:33:12] Yeah, dude.

[00:33:13] Have you guys played any of the older ones or is it only Rise and World?

[00:33:15] I've played four and I played a little bit of, uh, of three when it was on 3DS.

[00:33:20] Yeah.

[00:33:21] I only played World.

[00:33:22] I played, the first one I ever played was whenever one was on PSP, I think.

[00:33:28] Freedom Unite.

[00:33:29] Yeah.

[00:33:29] That was the first one I've ever played.

[00:33:32] And I remember kind of just being like, I don't know what I'm doing.

[00:33:36] It's super hard to get into.

[00:33:36] And then I dropped it.

[00:33:37] And then I was doing a like PlayStation library share with my brother-in-law and he bought

[00:33:46] Monster Hunter World and he was like, dude, you got to play this game.

[00:33:49] It's so amazing.

[00:33:50] And I was like, cool.

[00:33:51] Um, I'm down and I threw it on and I had no idea what I was doing and I bounced off that

[00:33:56] extremely fast.

[00:33:57] But it wasn't until Rise that I actually something clicked.

[00:34:02] Yeah.

[00:34:03] That's all the Spider-Man shit, man.

[00:34:05] You're flinging yourself all over the goddamn place with the wire bug.

[00:34:08] I think a lot of it was the fact that with World, I didn't and still do not like how that

[00:34:14] multiplayer works.

[00:34:15] How you have to like see the monster do the cut scene and then it's like, oh, now we can

[00:34:21] hunt together.

[00:34:21] Yeah.

[00:34:22] Like that's such a fucking weird thing.

[00:34:24] Whereas Rise is just like, cool, you're in my thing now.

[00:34:28] Let's go hunt.

[00:34:29] Oh, yeah.

[00:34:30] Bam.

[00:34:30] You're just off.

[00:34:31] Like they nailed the multiplayer.

[00:34:34] And I don't.

[00:34:36] Did you guys get to try the beta for the for wild?

[00:34:39] I actually didn't.

[00:34:40] I'm a huge monster fan.

[00:34:41] I didn't.

[00:34:42] I got to play the beta.

[00:34:45] They fucked the multiplayer up.

[00:34:46] God.

[00:34:47] Did they?

[00:34:48] And that's the thing.

[00:34:49] My like not to get into a tangent about monster hunter, but like world's my least favorite

[00:34:53] monster hunter because of all of those issues.

[00:34:56] Rise did a really good job of bringing back what monster hunter used to be.

[00:34:59] It just made it more anime, which is fine.

[00:35:01] It is pretty anime to begin with.

[00:35:03] But yeah, that's sad to hear that wilds is like wilds is really cool.

[00:35:07] And there's some very interesting things with wilds.

[00:35:10] But I think part of the reason is because with Rise, it's very much like here's your

[00:35:15] hub world.

[00:35:16] And then it's like now you pick a mission.

[00:35:18] You go to that map.

[00:35:19] It's like you get teleported to the map and the map is like very inclusive of like here's

[00:35:25] what you're doing.

[00:35:25] You can hunt that thing, that thing or that thing.

[00:35:28] And it's very snappy, very quick.

[00:35:31] Whereas wilds is kind of going back to the way that world is.

[00:35:35] And it's very like open and you have like you have your home base.

[00:35:42] But I don't know.

[00:35:43] We had some issues kind of getting things rolling, but like they might fix it.

[00:35:49] They might add some stuff.

[00:35:50] That's what I was thinking.

[00:35:51] It's not like trying to do multiplayer in like a FromSoft game or something.

[00:35:56] But like, no, it's still not the greatest.

[00:36:00] Yeah.

[00:36:00] The Gathering Hub and Rise was fucking perfect.

[00:36:04] Like everything you need is right there.

[00:36:06] The music.

[00:36:06] Yeah.

[00:36:07] And it's not.

[00:36:07] So good.

[00:36:08] It's not like teeny tiny, but it's not huge.

[00:36:11] Like you can go, you can go order your food on the little fucking beachside patio.

[00:36:17] Yeah.

[00:36:17] A million boxes everywhere you go.

[00:36:19] So you can swap out your equipment and get ready for a fucking hunt and take down a Rathalos

[00:36:24] or whatever.

[00:36:25] It's just, it's awesome, man.

[00:36:27] I love it.

[00:36:28] So is the one from Monster Hunter 3 as well.

[00:36:31] Monster Hunter 3 is just nostalgic for me.

[00:36:33] That's my main thing.

[00:36:35] Jerry, do you want to go next?

[00:36:36] So here's the thing.

[00:36:37] I don't, this doesn't really technically count as a hub world, but it's a world that I want

[00:36:43] to live in.

[00:36:44] And technically it's like, I guess it is a hub.

[00:36:49] It's a world map.

[00:36:50] It's the map of Dinosaur Land and Super Mario World.

[00:36:54] Like the stick?

[00:36:55] Okay.

[00:36:55] I just like, cause I mean.

[00:36:57] Oh, yeah.

[00:36:58] Okay.

[00:36:59] Cause you're going into levels from that world map.

[00:37:02] Yeah.

[00:37:02] And I just, I like remember seeing pictures of that map, like in the like game manual

[00:37:11] in like Nintendo power magazines.

[00:37:13] I was like, I want to live there.

[00:37:14] Like that's, there's a fucking chocolate land.

[00:37:17] There's a goddamn, uh, a river made of soda.

[00:37:21] Like there's like, there's all these crazy food things.

[00:37:25] And like, I don't know.

[00:37:26] It's just, it's a world map.

[00:37:29] It's not really a hub.

[00:37:30] I guess.

[00:37:31] You're returning to it and you're picking, I guess it is segmented if you go to different

[00:37:36] worlds though, huh?

[00:37:38] Yeah.

[00:37:38] I mean, it's not, but you don't, you don't really go to different, like you do, but you

[00:37:43] don't like, it's all interconnected within that map.

[00:37:47] Like they zoom in on certain parts because well, the limitations of a super Nintendo, they

[00:37:53] couldn't just have like one massive open thing, but like it is all interconnected and you can

[00:37:59] affect the world itself by things that you do outside of it.

[00:38:03] So like you're kind of bringing it back similar to Kiefer, one of your picks.

[00:38:09] Yeah.

[00:38:09] Or no, it was Treaky's pick for the Peaches Castle in Mario 64.

[00:38:14] Cause it's like, you're kind of like altering that.

[00:38:17] That is though, as soon as I seen that pick on the list, I was mad because I didn't get

[00:38:24] there.

[00:38:25] I didn't write that down.

[00:38:26] Jerry did.

[00:38:27] And that's not like, no, no, no.

[00:38:32] Essentially.

[00:38:32] I just wanted to say how much I wanted to live in dinosaur land as a kid and kind of

[00:38:38] give Treaky a layup to talk about Princess Peach's castle.

[00:38:43] Cause that is like, when I think about the best example, that's the first fucking thing

[00:38:48] I think about that one right there.

[00:38:51] It's like, it's the, it's the craziest thing.

[00:38:53] I remember being a kid and just being like, what do I do in this castle?

[00:38:58] What?

[00:38:58] Like, because like there's, I don't know if you guys remember this.

[00:39:04] There is no indication.

[00:39:06] No, there's not.

[00:39:07] That you can jump into Peaches.

[00:39:08] And you know what?

[00:39:10] They don't tell you.

[00:39:11] I was a kid and I was with my brothers.

[00:39:12] I remember specifically me running into a wall and my brother going, you're an idiot.

[00:39:15] You got to jump into it.

[00:39:16] And I was like, what do you mean?

[00:39:18] And I don't know how he knew.

[00:39:20] I don't like, I just, I learned it from my brother.

[00:39:22] You know what happened with me the first time that I played that game, which was in a,

[00:39:27] in a blockbuster on the kiosk.

[00:39:31] I remember walking up to it and I go in the castle, I'm running around.

[00:39:35] I go in the, in the bomb on battlefield room with the painting and I'm just kind of running

[00:39:40] around in that room.

[00:39:42] And I remember going up to the painting and like pushing against it.

[00:39:46] And the painting was like wavy.

[00:39:48] You know what did the wiggles?

[00:39:49] What is that?

[00:39:50] And the, the guy that was like next to me at the kiosk was like, uh, I don't know, but

[00:39:56] like, can you do something with the painting maybe?

[00:39:58] And I was like, hmm.

[00:40:00] And I like jumped and then I went in.

[00:40:03] Shut the fuck up, man.

[00:40:04] What do you know?

[00:40:05] I just went in this painting and I'm like, oh, I just, I remember looking at the

[00:40:10] and then you hear the, and it's just like, what is going on now?

[00:40:14] Like what, what, what is this screen?

[00:40:16] You hit the thing and then you go in the level and I look at my mom.

[00:40:19] I'm like, I need to have a Nintendo 64, please.

[00:40:22] Like I need this now.

[00:40:24] It's a whole new world in here.

[00:40:26] One 64 world.

[00:40:27] A Super Mario world.

[00:40:28] Yeah.

[00:40:29] Yeah.

[00:40:29] Woo.

[00:40:30] It's hard to read.

[00:40:30] Yeah.

[00:40:31] I, I, I, you know what?

[00:40:33] Uh, I, that's like the home world.

[00:40:35] I was, I was just going to say that I am not sure, but there might be a toad in either

[00:40:44] it's Thwomp's fortress or Bob on battlefield that is like invisible until you run up to him.

[00:40:51] And I think he's, he might tell you to jump into the painting, but I don't, I don't know

[00:40:57] for sure.

[00:40:57] Cause I, I just vaguely remember something like an invisible toad.

[00:41:02] You guys remember that fucking rabbit in the basement?

[00:41:04] Yep.

[00:41:05] Fuck that rabbit dude.

[00:41:06] Yep.

[00:41:08] My, my brother and I would take turns trying to catch that shit.

[00:41:10] That was insane.

[00:41:12] It was, it was kids shouldn't have been able to, that shouldn't have been in a game for

[00:41:17] kids.

[00:41:18] I was, I mean, I was, fuck how old was I?

[00:41:23] Nine when that game came out.

[00:41:25] And then Yoshi on the roof.

[00:41:26] It's a nine, 94, 96.

[00:41:28] 96 when it came out.

[00:41:29] It was the year I was born.

[00:41:31] So yeah, that came, that came out two years.

[00:41:33] I was two when it came out.

[00:41:35] Yeah.

[00:41:35] And it probably played, or I probably played it when I was like probably around six.

[00:41:41] Yeah.

[00:41:42] Same time I played quest.

[00:41:46] Equally important games.

[00:41:47] Yes.

[00:41:48] Love you, Mike.

[00:41:50] Yeah.

[00:41:52] Any of you guys ever played an ease game?

[00:41:55] No, but I have them in my steam library.

[00:41:57] Yeah.

[00:41:57] Me too.

[00:41:59] And I don't know how I got them.

[00:42:00] I got them in my steam library.

[00:42:01] I got them on my PlayStation live.

[00:42:02] They're everywhere.

[00:42:03] And I just never play them.

[00:42:05] I, I thought they were RPG maker games.

[00:42:07] I'm not going to lie.

[00:42:08] No, not at all.

[00:42:10] No, I know.

[00:42:10] I know.

[00:42:11] I just, you say it is cool.

[00:42:12] Yeah.

[00:42:13] You say that's the first one on my list.

[00:42:15] Cause I really love the cast away village and ease eight.

[00:42:17] So basically he's eight, I forget when it takes place, uh, exactly in the whole, uh,

[00:42:22] whole chronology of Adol's adventures and everything.

[00:42:25] But yes, you're on the ship and it crashes into this Island.

[00:42:28] Then.

[00:42:29] So what is it?

[00:42:29] You as Adol and his friend Dogi, you, you're adventuring around this Island and you find

[00:42:34] more castaways and you build this village together.

[00:42:37] And as you go through the game and find more people, you'll keep upgrading the goddamn

[00:42:42] thing.

[00:42:43] Like you'll get a doctor seeking craft medicines.

[00:42:45] You'll find a blacksmith so you can craft better weapons.

[00:42:49] There's all sorts of shit.

[00:42:51] You can do all sorts of a little side quest that you can do to unlock more areas of the

[00:42:56] Island to explore.

[00:42:58] And yeah, and it's just got the, the greatest like chillest little tune that plays when you're

[00:43:03] at the village as well too.

[00:43:04] So listeners look at a stop this podcast immediately.

[00:43:07] Go look up castaway village.

[00:43:08] He's eight song.

[00:43:10] You're welcome.

[00:43:11] Holy shit.

[00:43:11] Is it so good?

[00:43:12] Great.

[00:43:13] I think there's something.

[00:43:13] I think there's something to be said about hub worlds that grow.

[00:43:18] Yeah.

[00:43:19] Yeah.

[00:43:19] And you could, you could, you could basically take that back to princess peaches castle in

[00:43:25] the fact that as you play, you unlock more areas of the castle or grant Tilda's layer.

[00:43:30] It's like a reward.

[00:43:31] Really good one.

[00:43:32] Yep.

[00:43:32] Grunty's layer, which by the way, grant Kirk hope, he says that he did not write the theme

[00:43:38] in that place as like, he didn't steal a theme of if you go into the woods today.

[00:43:43] He said that's, that wasn't the basis for the theme.

[00:43:45] It just turned out to sound like that.

[00:43:46] And I'm like, that's no way for it.

[00:43:48] Who are you?

[00:43:49] Who are you?

[00:43:49] Who are you fooling?

[00:43:50] Grant?

[00:43:51] Only I make songs.

[00:43:54] Grunt Tilda's layer is great because like, it is a level that leads you to levels.

[00:43:58] And I think that shit is just really good.

[00:43:59] That's like, that's, that's a rare brain going on right there.

[00:44:02] Yeah.

[00:44:03] And that's another like appeal of like Mario, a lot of parts of Mario 64 and like the other,

[00:44:07] you know, Mario hub worlds all like definitely have that sensibility and that's what makes

[00:44:10] them like the standout examples.

[00:44:12] Right.

[00:44:13] I mean, Mario galaxy, just like that little, like your little area, the observatory.

[00:44:20] I love the vibe of that, but I feel like I wanted more from it.

[00:44:25] I remember playing it and being like, Oh my God, this is so cool.

[00:44:28] And then I was just like, but where's the rest of it?

[00:44:32] Where's the rest of you?

[00:44:34] I did a galaxy episode with a Dre from fine time friend of the show, been on multiple episodes

[00:44:39] of super pod saga.

[00:44:41] But like we talked about Mario galaxy and like the, the hub world of that is definitely like

[00:44:46] underwhelming compared to like Delfino Plaza, Mario 64 to the point where it's like, you

[00:44:50] know, we'll talk about Delfino Plaza.

[00:44:52] But like music, it's that thing where it's like.

[00:44:54] Like there's games that have hub worlds and then the sequel of the game doesn't have a

[00:44:58] hub world because it's like, ah, redundancy, you know, like Mario world has a map.

[00:45:03] Mario worlds to just has like level selection.

[00:45:05] And it's like that for a lot of games and Mario galaxy two is one of those.

[00:45:09] And I think it's because they're like common observatory is immaculate in terms of vibes,

[00:45:13] but there's no secrets to it.

[00:45:15] It's just kind of like, and more and more reveals to itself.

[00:45:17] Like Koji Kondo makes the common absorber track.

[00:45:19] That's like his main contribution to Mario galaxy.

[00:45:22] That's all wonderful.

[00:45:24] It's just kind of like tacked on compared to like the rest of the game.

[00:45:28] I, you can, you can kind of see why in galaxy two, they are just like, it's a head and you,

[00:45:33] you select levels through the head.

[00:45:35] Yeah.

[00:45:36] Yeah.

[00:45:36] By the way, this is one on tricky's list as well too.

[00:45:39] And you got a million.

[00:45:40] So I feel like we can just pick apart.

[00:45:41] Well, I, I kind of just threw a net of all the ones I could remember.

[00:45:46] Yeah.

[00:45:46] Keep talking.

[00:45:47] I have to take my belt off.

[00:45:49] Do it.

[00:45:51] Dude.

[00:45:52] The hub worlds and Sonic adventure one.

[00:45:54] And I, I don't think this two have a hub world.

[00:45:57] I thought two was like level to level.

[00:45:58] No, two, two.

[00:46:00] Two is level select.

[00:46:01] Two is level select.

[00:46:02] Okay.

[00:46:02] Two is a level select.

[00:46:03] I thought Sonic adventure.

[00:46:04] I remember station square being from two, but I know getting my wires crossed.

[00:46:11] I think.

[00:46:11] Yeah.

[00:46:12] But state, cause stations, station square is fucking awesome.

[00:46:16] It's oh, it's so nostalgic.

[00:46:21] And like casino in it.

[00:46:23] And like, oh my God, dude.

[00:46:26] And you can take the train to Misty Valley and then it plays that dope fucking song when

[00:46:31] you're in Misty Valley.

[00:46:32] Like, and there's all sorts of cool little secrets you can find wherever you are to a

[00:46:36] not cool shit for like, you can take this dumb little like wind crystal thing with you

[00:46:40] to the chow garden and give it to your chow or whatever.

[00:46:43] And they transform.

[00:46:44] Yeah.

[00:46:45] It's so good.

[00:46:46] Is the chow garden.

[00:46:49] That's not a hub world.

[00:46:50] You go there at the end of levels.

[00:46:52] If you get the chow key in Sonic adventure two, it's like, yeah, you could like extrapolate

[00:46:56] that as like a hub world.

[00:46:57] Cause that is where I spent the vast majority of my time.

[00:47:02] Like, and it's very funny to walk around as Eggman without the mech and just pet creatures

[00:47:06] go.

[00:47:06] Yo.

[00:47:07] Oh yeah.

[00:47:07] But it is, it's, it is like, I, it's hard to call that a hub world and it feels like

[00:47:13] a side game.

[00:47:14] It is a stretch, but it.

[00:47:16] Dude, station square though.

[00:47:18] The music.

[00:47:19] Yeah.

[00:47:20] Aaron, tell me more about station square.

[00:47:21] Why is it your favorite?

[00:47:22] I have a lot of fucking memories with, uh, with Sonic adventure.

[00:47:26] I, so the first, I never played the dreamcast versions when I was a kid.

[00:47:29] I played the Sonic adventure DX directors cut on game cube.

[00:47:35] And dude, you're the reason why it failed.

[00:47:38] I don't even know the dreamcast existed when I was a kid.

[00:47:40] I had a game cube and I was like, I think it was either I get a game cube or a PS2.

[00:47:45] I had no idea the dreamcast existed.

[00:47:48] I didn't at all care for the Xbox because I was like, well, on one hand I could get Mario

[00:47:54] and Pikmin.

[00:47:55] On the other hand, I could get kingdom hearts.

[00:47:57] Uh, but anyway, yeah, station square just has fucking jamming ass tunes and there's different

[00:48:02] little areas you can go for, uh, to explore.

[00:48:05] And there's a, there's many games when you get those different upgrades, like the, the,

[00:48:10] the light speed ring thing where you can travel to different areas or.

[00:48:16] I forget if you could do, yeah, there was some shit you could do with tails too.

[00:48:19] I forget, but yeah, he was there.

[00:48:22] Yeah, he was there, but tails does exist.

[00:48:25] Yeah.

[00:48:25] Immaculate vibes.

[00:48:26] Yep.

[00:48:27] Something about the Sonic games, like the 3d early Sonic games that were so broken, but

[00:48:35] like the voice acting.

[00:48:37] Oh my God.

[00:48:37] Like the mouths, the way they move.

[00:48:39] Sonic and his face would be like, Hey, it's just like, Oh my God.

[00:48:45] Yeah.

[00:48:46] You better throw some respect on big, the cat though.

[00:48:49] Yeah.

[00:48:49] Wait for me.

[00:48:51] Fucking Jesus Christ.

[00:48:53] I just think that those games as much hate as they get, they are from people who don't

[00:48:59] really get Sonic.

[00:49:00] They are such a vibe.

[00:49:02] Oh yeah.

[00:49:03] It's like, they're so endearing.

[00:49:05] Right.

[00:49:05] Yep.

[00:49:06] And they have no excuse for the modern ones that are broken.

[00:49:09] Yeah.

[00:49:09] But like back then I let it slide.

[00:49:12] Have any of you guys played frontiers?

[00:49:14] I want to know.

[00:49:16] It got added to the PlayStation extra thing, the catalog.

[00:49:22] Ooh.

[00:49:23] And when I seen that, I got excited because I've been wanting to play it, but I was like,

[00:49:27] I'm not paying money for this.

[00:49:29] Like I'll wait for it to come out for something for free.

[00:49:33] And when I got added, I was like, Ooh, I'm going to play that.

[00:49:36] I am totally going to play it.

[00:49:38] Does Thrak hail it?

[00:49:40] Yeah.

[00:49:40] He said, or he says it's like, it's not perfect.

[00:49:43] Obviously like no Sonic game is perfect.

[00:49:45] I don't think, but yeah, it's, it's good though.

[00:49:48] I hear there's a part in it.

[00:49:49] That's like, there's like this music kicks in and you're just like, you get shivers.

[00:49:54] Oh man.

[00:49:55] Which is like a pretty Sonic thing.

[00:49:58] But I hear that.

[00:49:59] I hear it is good.

[00:50:00] Places to go.

[00:50:01] Gotta follow my rainbow.

[00:50:03] Dude, city escape.

[00:50:06] Even like the knuckles levels in Sonic Avenger two.

[00:50:09] Oh, with the spooky rap dude.

[00:50:11] Yeah.

[00:50:11] Oh dude.

[00:50:12] Great emerald power allows me to feel.

[00:50:15] It's so, it's so good.

[00:50:16] It didn't need to be that good dude.

[00:50:18] What is a aquatic mine?

[00:50:21] That's the other one.

[00:50:22] It's like take a dive to aquatic mine.

[00:50:25] It's so, it's so good.

[00:50:28] I love it so much.

[00:50:29] I don't even know who goes next.

[00:50:31] I was just going to say, I want to shoot one out.

[00:50:34] So that sounded weird.

[00:50:36] People taking off their belts and shooting one out here.

[00:50:39] Yeah, shooting one out.

[00:50:40] I had a legitimate reason to take off my belt and it was to shoot one out.

[00:50:46] Shoot one out, baby.

[00:50:48] We're tubing here on.

[00:50:51] Rogue port from Paper Mario, thousand year old door.

[00:50:56] And to a lesser extent, Toad Town from Paper Mario one.

[00:51:00] They are areas you visit, but they are hub worlds because essentially every single pipe

[00:51:07] in those areas lead to the next worlds.

[00:51:10] Right.

[00:51:12] And the thing I really specifically like about those hub worlds worlds is there is secrets

[00:51:19] that are added as you get abilities.

[00:51:22] Oh yeah.

[00:51:23] So, you know, you get your like your ground pound, you get your like zip.

[00:51:27] I don't care where the other thing is, but anyway, or different partners.

[00:51:30] You unlock different secrets in the area to get, you know, especially in rogue port, you

[00:51:35] like different badges, you get different star pieces, upgrades, all stuff that you unlock

[00:51:39] later that you can't get to right away.

[00:51:42] And it's another example of a growing hub world that is not just somewhere that you revisit.

[00:51:49] There is a lot of, and it changes.

[00:51:52] NPCs show up different.

[00:51:53] Every chapter, there's different NPCs that show up.

[00:51:55] There's like a grow as you grow as you grow through, go progress through the game.

[00:52:00] And I think that that is the epitome of what a hub world should be.

[00:52:06] I think it is a perfect example of, it just needs to be something that is, has tons of

[00:52:11] secrets, tons of things to do is a hub world and grows with the player.

[00:52:16] I think it's, I think rogue port is probably one of the most important hub worlds there

[00:52:22] is besides peaches.

[00:52:23] How many other hub worlds have a noose on it?

[00:52:26] Much less.

[00:52:27] I'm so happy they left it in with the remake.

[00:52:30] Yeah.

[00:52:31] I'm so happy.

[00:52:32] Have any of you guys ever played bug fables?

[00:52:34] The whole paper Mario thing.

[00:52:36] What's the, what's the name of the town and bug fables?

[00:52:38] Don't know.

[00:52:40] Couldn't tell you.

[00:52:40] Couldn't tell you.

[00:52:41] That's a, it's Chicago.

[00:52:43] You know, it's all my, my, my one little tiny corp I have or equip with a bug fables

[00:52:51] is the active or the action command combat in that is like slightly delayed.

[00:52:58] Yeah.

[00:52:58] Like, I don't know.

[00:52:59] I think I might, maybe it's only me.

[00:53:01] Yeah.

[00:53:01] I, I found, well, maybe it's just me, but I found it compared to when I play paper Mario

[00:53:06] games, the action commands feel so like the timed hits.

[00:53:11] Like the timed hits is action commit.

[00:53:13] Yeah.

[00:53:13] You can.

[00:53:13] So when you, when you do it, not when you like delay hits or anything, but like if I

[00:53:18] like click a right before I hit someone in Mario that I have the timing down.

[00:53:22] Like it feels like it is exactly where it needs to be.

[00:53:24] And then when I play bug fables, it always seems like it's a little bit delayed of where it

[00:53:29] need to be.

[00:53:30] It is a different game.

[00:53:31] Like it made a different engine.

[00:53:32] I remember, but I feel like, like, have you guys played a mother three, like earthbound

[00:53:37] two?

[00:53:38] No.

[00:53:38] So I played that on an emulator and I didn't even know that it had timed hits along with

[00:53:46] like the music.

[00:53:46] And then when I realized that it did, I was like, Oh shit, there's timed hits in this.

[00:53:51] I love timed hits and I could never pull them off because with emulators then like there

[00:53:58] was some lag.

[00:54:01] And now that I have like FPGA stuff, like the, the mister and the, the analog pocket, they

[00:54:09] have no leg.

[00:54:10] So now it's finally like, Oh, this is how it's supposed to feel like without that leg.

[00:54:16] And I think you're right.

[00:54:18] Like I think if a game is designed and not super, super tight about the timed hits, they

[00:54:25] don't work right.

[00:54:26] As much as I love a timed hit system, I have played some that are like, eh, this needs a

[00:54:32] little work.

[00:54:33] I think.

[00:54:34] Yeah.

[00:54:34] I preach in like a lot of my videos, especially if it's like a RPG.

[00:54:39] I say that like action commands, timed hits, all that.

[00:54:43] So I think those are very important because I feel like it adds so much to combat, especially

[00:54:50] if it's take turn, right?

[00:54:51] Yeah.

[00:54:51] It's like, it gives you, it gives you more than you're just clicking.

[00:54:54] You're not just clicking a button.

[00:54:55] You're clicking a button and then you're using skill to actually make that.

[00:54:58] All combat is rhythm.

[00:55:00] And if you don't get the rhythm right, then like you're just, you fucked it.

[00:55:04] An RPG came out this year with timed hits.

[00:55:07] Which one?

[00:55:07] Grimstone for UFO 50.

[00:55:11] Yes, that's right.

[00:55:13] Holy shit.

[00:55:14] I didn't play UFO 50.

[00:55:16] Hubworlds though.

[00:55:18] Yeah.

[00:55:18] Who wants to go next?

[00:55:19] Yes.

[00:55:19] Hubworlds.

[00:55:19] Sorry.

[00:55:20] That's Aaron getting us.

[00:55:21] Aaron, I can't believe you get us off.

[00:55:23] I know.

[00:55:23] It's fucked up.

[00:55:25] It's my fucking show, man.

[00:55:26] I was fucking toad town.

[00:55:29] How's your Hades in Hades?

[00:55:31] Yes.

[00:55:31] A really good fucking hubworld.

[00:55:32] I almost put that down.

[00:55:34] You think about other roguelike games and you're trying to like the process,

[00:55:37] and this isn't a value judgment, but it's like you lose.

[00:55:41] You want to start the next run as soon as possible.

[00:55:44] But that space between starting your next run is made so meaningful in Hades because that's

[00:55:50] the space where you're actually progressing the story.

[00:55:52] You are progressing Zagreus in terms of your skills and your abilities in the game through

[00:55:57] like the actual act of playing the game and like progressing through the underworld.

[00:56:02] But like the actual like emotional development of Zagreus is all happening in the house of Hades.

[00:56:07] So like this is like half the game.

[00:56:08] It's just this hubworld and it's great.

[00:56:11] It also has customizability, which is fucking fantastic.

[00:56:13] Yes.

[00:56:14] It's a big part of like, you know, enrichment.

[00:56:16] You are doing enrichment for the player.

[00:56:18] You are like actually having an effect on this world.

[00:56:21] And that is felt not just in your emotional development with your relationships, but also

[00:56:25] like your ability to actually like influence the underworld.

[00:56:28] And anytime you buy something and then like Hades is like, what the fuck is this?

[00:56:32] It's the best.

[00:56:34] I remember the first time I beat Morgana and then died and then I came back and she was

[00:56:42] sitting at the bar and I was like, what the fuck?

[00:56:45] And then she talked to me.

[00:56:46] She's like, I, she's like, I hate you, but what up, dude?

[00:56:48] Like I hear you die.

[00:56:49] I don't like, it's just like.

[00:56:50] I'm clocked out.

[00:56:51] Yeah.

[00:56:51] Yeah.

[00:56:51] Like that, that hubworld, it was crazy to me.

[00:56:54] Cause I was just like, man, like everyone here, I like, we really are in Hades.

[00:56:58] Like no one dies.

[00:56:59] And there's so much you can do.

[00:57:01] Yeah.

[00:57:01] Yeah.

[00:57:02] You upgrade your shit there.

[00:57:04] There's like romance sim kind of shit, like romance sim light stuff.

[00:57:09] You gotta love the romance.

[00:57:10] Yeah.

[00:57:10] Customizability.

[00:57:11] Customizability.

[00:57:11] You talk to people to increase their relationship.

[00:57:15] I can think of the right word for that.

[00:57:16] That shit.

[00:57:16] They give you collectibles that you can use.

[00:57:18] Yeah.

[00:57:18] Social links.

[00:57:20] Dude.

[00:57:21] Yeah.

[00:57:21] It's a good one.

[00:57:21] So good.

[00:57:22] It's a great one.

[00:57:23] Oh, and you can pet server.

[00:57:24] Is it back in two?

[00:57:25] You can pet server.

[00:57:26] Yes.

[00:57:27] Is two?

[00:57:28] I haven't played two yet either.

[00:57:29] Is two of a hub world?

[00:57:30] Yeah.

[00:57:30] I'm waiting.

[00:57:30] Cause that would be hilarious.

[00:57:31] Oh, it's not out yet.

[00:57:32] Well, it's in early access.

[00:57:41] Yeah.

[00:57:41] Have any of you played stellar blade?

[00:57:44] No, sir.

[00:57:45] No.

[00:57:46] Cause I feel like if I do, I.

[00:57:48] Oh, what's the matter?

[00:57:49] We'll be playing very long.

[00:57:51] I'll have to stop every once in a while.

[00:57:54] Take your belt up.

[00:57:55] Take a break.

[00:57:56] Well, I have.

[00:57:58] And there is a hub world in that game.

[00:58:02] And it's pretty cool.

[00:58:04] I actually kind of just forgot about it.

[00:58:06] But now that we're talking about hub worlds and I'm like thinking in my head, like I play anything this year with a hub world.

[00:58:12] And like, I was going to say Astro Bot, but Astro Bot doesn't really have some, like it is a hub world, but not like, not like some of these other ones.

[00:58:20] But stellar blade legitimately has like a hub world where like you go into this town and there's all these shops and stuff.

[00:58:29] And like you do things out in the areas that are like the, the bigger explorable areas that you go out in to do like your, your missions and like the main objectives and stuff.

[00:58:40] And like, if you do certain quests, there's a ton of like side quests within the town.

[00:58:46] Some of the ones that you do when you come back, like as an example, one dude's like, Hey, if you go find this thing, I'll like open up my barber shop and you can have haircuts.

[00:58:57] And like, you just, yeah.

[00:58:59] Like you get like all these little things and like, there's this one chick in like a back alley that sells you like upgrades and shit.

[00:59:06] Like it's, it's actually a really cool hub world.

[00:59:10] Hey, can you want to buy some upgrades?

[00:59:12] Yeah, pretty much.

[00:59:13] Yeah.

[00:59:13] Hey, do you want to get skimpier clothes or how are you feeling here?

[00:59:19] To be the to be, you want the to be treatment?

[00:59:23] I mean, I always want to be treatment.

[00:59:25] And I was on the TV always to be or not to be to, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be.

[00:59:34] Yeah.

[00:59:35] Yeah.

[00:59:35] It's a, I do love the streaming service to be.

[00:59:37] It's great.

[00:59:38] Hey, it's free.

[00:59:39] It's free.

[00:59:40] It's free with ads.

[00:59:41] Yeah.

[00:59:42] But yeah, besides stellar blade.

[00:59:44] And I was like thinking about this too, which I mean, I seen in, in Kiefer's picks, he has one that's quote unquote debatable.

[00:59:51] And I think I have one that's debatable as well.

[00:59:54] And I played, you had one that was a lot of final fantasy 14 online.

[00:59:59] And yeah, I want to just like see the thing is final fantasy 14 online.

[01:00:05] All those major cities are kind of hub worlds in a way, because like I felt like after going out and doing like the MSQ and like doing a whole bunch of other stuff, doing dungeons, doing raids and all that stuff.

[01:00:19] You always end up back at like limbs.

[01:00:21] You're always in limbs.

[01:00:21] Yeah.

[01:00:22] Like, yeah, that's where everybody is.

[01:00:24] That's where everybody's popping their shirts off and fucking dancing around.

[01:00:27] Like, it's just, yeah, it's so crazy.

[01:00:30] Like you just always go back to limbs at Lomenza.

[01:00:33] I mean, I, I have my one though, like my two co-hosts on super ghosts, their favorite place to go was usually limbs.

[01:00:45] Most times mine was Kugani.

[01:00:48] Like I was always going back to Kugani a for the fucking music because it's amazing.

[01:00:55] Dude, the music, the music and like, it's so hard to say any track.

[01:01:00] I know in final fantasy are bad because I always laugh to myself because like I, when someone's like, oh, is the music good in that game?

[01:01:07] And I'm like, dude, you know, that gif of someone on like a beach playing a piano and it's like on fire.

[01:01:13] Like that was, that was like, that was the composer of final fantasy 14.

[01:01:19] Just anytime they're like, Hey, so we need just like a, like a traditional Japanese style town music.

[01:01:25] And he's like, oh yeah.

[01:01:26] All right.

[01:01:27] Yeah.

[01:01:28] Easy.

[01:01:29] Easy.

[01:01:29] Cause Kugani, the cool thing about like that place specifically is like you walk, it's, it's smaller, smallish, but like you walk through the streets and it feels like.

[01:01:39] It's lived in, you're in like a Jap.

[01:01:40] Yeah.

[01:01:41] Like it feels alive and there's like, I don't know if there is ramen shots, but other players, cause it's an MMO without the other players, like even the NPCs that are there.

[01:01:50] And I think that's something that people sometimes don't think about with this game is that, and I I've said it a million times before I played that game.

[01:01:59] Like it was a single player game, but I played it with my friends.

[01:02:04] I didn't really have much interaction with like actually playing with strangers other than like doing like raids every once in a while.

[01:02:10] But like I played it like a single player game.

[01:02:13] I made my UI look like fucking Xenoblade.

[01:02:16] Like I've, I played it all on a controller.

[01:02:18] I did not play that.

[01:02:19] Yeah.

[01:02:19] You can play, I was gonna say you can play the controller and it works.

[01:02:21] But the thing about Kugani besides the music is that goddamn jump puzzle.

[01:02:30] You know what I'm talking about.

[01:02:32] I don't actually, I know I've, I've never done it, but my friends who, my friends who played it a lot more than me, which is saying a lot.

[01:02:40] Cause I played a lot of fall phase 14.

[01:02:42] Um, they were talking about a jump puzzle in Kugani and I, so, you know, like the, you know, the main tower, like the big tower in the middle, the big one.

[01:02:51] That, that whole tower is a jump puzzle.

[01:02:55] So like you, you get up to like the, you go up the stairs and you go out through like the door.

[01:03:00] And then if you look on the side of the building, you can see like these little like notches that you can jump on and then you can kind of get up to like another level.

[01:03:09] And then there's like more notches.

[01:03:10] And I remember, I remember like Greg and Beth being like, Hey, you like these jump?

[01:03:14] Cause there's like other jump puzzles in some other areas too, but like not like this one, this one was like insane.

[01:03:21] And I remember the night that I finally got to the top of that thing.

[01:03:27] I think it took me no less than about two hours of constant attempts to get up there.

[01:03:34] That sounds about right.

[01:03:34] Good going.

[01:03:35] But that music though.

[01:03:36] Yeah.

[01:03:37] Dude, it's, it gets you through it.

[01:03:40] Aaron, you got to hear this music sometime.

[01:03:42] Like, like send it to me in messenger.

[01:03:45] I'll listen to it.

[01:03:50] They are hubs.

[01:03:50] They are central hubs.

[01:03:51] Yeah.

[01:03:52] A hundred percent without a doubt.

[01:03:54] MMOs are built on hubs.

[01:03:55] MMOs are built on hubs.

[01:03:57] They're built on.

[01:03:57] Exactly.

[01:03:58] A hundred percent.

[01:03:59] They're just not hub towns.

[01:04:02] But I can see the vibe that you get from it being a hub world because it really is somewhere as you go back, do you finish a mission?

[01:04:10] You finish whatever.

[01:04:11] You just instantly, you're going back.

[01:04:12] You're replenishing.

[01:04:14] Go to your retainers and be like, sell my shit.

[01:04:17] And then you're like, let me go to the market board and buy a million gill fucking gloves that look, they're going to make this suit pop, dude.

[01:04:27] Yeah.

[01:04:27] That reminds me a lot of the tower from Destiny.

[01:04:31] I forget if that's what it's called from the first Destiny, but yeah, that shit was popping.

[01:04:35] That shit was sweet.

[01:04:35] That was just called the, wasn't it just called the tower?

[01:04:38] I think it was called the tower.

[01:04:39] It was the tower.

[01:04:40] Yeah, that was really cool.

[01:04:41] God, that, and then they ended, no, two and two, they introduced little puzzles.

[01:04:46] Did they?

[01:04:46] And jump puzzles into it.

[01:04:48] Yeah.

[01:04:48] Oh my God.

[01:04:49] Yeah.

[01:04:49] I played a lot of two and one, but that tower was, I don't know, I, I never thought of it being a hub world, but it is.

[01:04:57] It's a hundred percent is.

[01:04:58] Yeah.

[01:04:58] Does it take you to the levels?

[01:05:00] Yeah.

[01:05:01] Yeah.

[01:05:01] Yeah.

[01:05:02] You always, you always come back.

[01:05:04] It's got all your.

[01:05:04] It's like that talking head song.

[01:05:06] Take me to the levels.

[01:05:08] It's got all your vendors.

[01:05:10] Speaking of vendors, should we take an ad break?

[01:05:12] You know it.

[01:05:13] Okay.

[01:05:14] Take me to the ad break.

[01:05:16] Take me to the ad break.

[01:05:19] Oh, bear back.

[01:05:26] Do you find yourself playing older games and wishing that there were new discussions about those games?

[01:06:50] We also have special guests every once in a while who come on to discuss their memories and their experiences with the game as well.

[01:06:57] So if you enjoy your retro gaming goodness, be sure to check out Afterglow.

[01:07:02] So, do you ever...

[01:07:17] Aaron, I have a question for you, Aaron.

[01:07:19] Okay.

[01:07:21] All these guys...

[01:07:23] These folks?

[01:07:24] All these guys, all these folks, they don't got fedoras, and they need them.

[01:07:30] Yeah, because sometimes your head gets cold.

[01:07:33] When it's cold outside and you don't have something on your head, your head does get cold.

[01:07:35] Sometimes your neck beard also gets real cold.

[01:07:38] Sometimes your neck beard...

[01:07:39] Sometimes the m'ladies aren't looking at you.

[01:07:42] Sometimes your trench coat doesn't properly cover up the back of your neck and everything.

[01:07:49] So, yeah, sometimes you need a fedora.

[01:07:52] Yeah.

[01:07:53] How am I supposed to, like, look at katanas when I'm so fucking cold on the head?

[01:08:00] All this heat coming out of my head.

[01:08:02] I can't even think about katanas like this.

[01:08:04] How am I supposed to disguise my bald spots, my cleverly hidden bald spots, as I play Magic the Gathering with the boys?

[01:08:10] There is an answer to this.

[01:08:11] What am I supposed to tip?

[01:08:12] What am I supposed to tip?

[01:08:13] It's fedoras for folks.

[01:08:16] Folks like you and I.

[01:08:18] You know?

[01:08:19] Well, it's...

[01:08:20] Like, folks is such a...

[01:08:22] We're not like them.

[01:08:23] Well, this is also true.

[01:08:26] But fedoras for folks are for...

[01:08:29] They're fedoras for people that don't necessarily need them, you know?

[01:08:33] The blue-collar working Joe.

[01:08:35] That's right.

[01:08:36] You give this to Sam Jackman, who lives down the street, who drives a Dodge Ram to work every morning.

[01:08:43] Still lives with his mom.

[01:08:45] Yeah, and...

[01:08:46] Sam Jackson still lives with his mom?

[01:08:47] He's been in all those movies.

[01:08:49] What?

[01:08:49] Oh, wait!

[01:08:49] Sam Jackson!

[01:08:50] Fucking piece of shit!

[01:08:51] Fucking Sam Jackson, you fucking idiot, driving your Dodge Ram out of your mom's driveway every morning.

[01:08:56] You need a fedora.

[01:08:58] That's what you need.

[01:08:59] Oh, yeah.

[01:09:00] Then his boss will recognize and be like, hey, Sam, come here for a minute.

[01:09:02] Come here.

[01:09:03] Come here.

[01:09:03] Uh, that hat?

[01:09:05] Fucking tight.

[01:09:06] Okay, here's $10 million.

[01:09:08] And then, bam.

[01:09:09] He's, uh...

[01:09:09] Go buy your mom something sweet.

[01:09:10] The crazy thing is, Sam Jackman...

[01:09:13] It's Jackman, by the way, not Jackson.

[01:09:15] Oh.

[01:09:16] Okay.

[01:09:16] Let's get it right here for a second, folks.

[01:09:19] I'm sorry.

[01:09:19] I thought you were talking about Samuel L. Jackson.

[01:09:21] My apologies.

[01:09:22] Sam Jackman.

[01:09:22] It's just like perfect fusion of Hugh Jackman.

[01:09:24] Blue collar man.

[01:09:24] Samuel L. Jackson.

[01:09:25] You know, he's showing up, like Aaron said, to his job site, wearing his hard hat on a construction site.

[01:09:31] Or the fedora underneath it.

[01:09:32] Yeah, they're going, uh, there's something missing here, Sam Jackman.

[01:09:36] Okay?

[01:09:37] You gotta take that hard hat off and put this on.

[01:09:41] And then, lo and behold, fedoras for folks.

[01:09:44] It goes...

[01:09:45] It fits perfectly.

[01:09:46] Like, you could stack that hard hat.

[01:09:48] You know what?

[01:09:49] Fuck it.

[01:09:49] Take this as an endorsement.

[01:09:51] You do not need safety.

[01:09:52] You don't need none of that.

[01:09:53] You don't need to wear a hard hat.

[01:09:54] That fedora's gonna save you.

[01:09:56] Wanna know why?

[01:09:56] Because the second you put that on, Kiefer, you already know.

[01:10:00] You know how to wield a katana.

[01:10:02] Fucking steel beam falling from 40 feet in the air?

[01:10:04] No way.

[01:10:05] You're gonna catch it.

[01:10:06] You're gonna catch it.

[01:10:07] Yeah.

[01:10:07] Thankfully, because of the warmth provided to me by this hat, I've been able to study the blade.

[01:10:13] Osha, go fuck yourself.

[01:10:14] You know what?

[01:10:15] Every single fedora for folks comes with a little gift...

[01:10:21] Folks for fedoras comes with a little tiny gift bath.

[01:10:24] And here's what I got this season.

[01:10:26] This season, guys, I got a real Hatari Hanzo katana.

[01:10:30] Hell yeah, dude.

[01:10:31] And they told me...

[01:10:32] They said, get in the deep end.

[01:10:35] I just need my fedora.

[01:10:36] I left it at another place.

[01:10:38] And they do that.

[01:10:38] They say, go up to women.

[01:10:40] Walk up in the window.

[01:10:42] Oh.

[01:10:43] Yeah, your panties are off.

[01:10:45] Yeah, pop that clutch and those panties be popping as well.

[01:10:49] Panties, fedoras, jobs, they'd be popping.

[01:10:52] They'd just be popping everywhere.

[01:10:54] Hard hats, popping.

[01:10:55] Here's an added bonus, too.

[01:10:58] They make fedoras...

[01:11:00] Yeah, this is DLC.

[01:11:01] So for an extra $100 or whatever, they'll make any kind of hat in the shape of a fedora.

[01:11:08] So you can have a hard hat fedora that'll protect your skull from falling rocks and dynamite.

[01:11:15] Finally.

[01:11:15] And dinosaurs.

[01:11:16] And dinosaurs.

[01:11:18] Yeah, that's right.

[01:11:18] And Samuel L. Jackson.

[01:11:21] From down the street.

[01:11:23] Clocking you on the head for being late because he's your boss.

[01:11:26] You could have a fedora in the shape of a farmer's straw hat.

[01:11:31] I don't know why.

[01:11:32] I want one of those Sherlock Holmes hats, but as a fedora.

[01:11:36] Oh, like I'm a spelunker and I'm like going into a cave and I have like a little flashlight coming out of my fedora.

[01:11:42] Oh, that's good.

[01:11:42] Yes.

[01:11:43] Yes, that's perfect.

[01:11:45] You got a fedora with like sports logos on it and shit, too.

[01:11:51] Yeah.

[01:11:52] When you're deep into your Warhammer painting and you just need to have that like little like magnifying glasses on your fedora.

[01:11:58] You can look it down, boom.

[01:12:00] Oh, okay.

[01:12:01] So to be extra anime, too.

[01:12:02] Eyebrow.

[01:12:02] It's got like built-in goggles, like built-in anime goggles, like on top of the brim, too.

[01:12:07] So you can be like, okay, time to paint or like time to anime.

[01:12:12] Time to get all the pussy.

[01:12:15] Yeah.

[01:12:17] So if you go out downtown 3 a.m. wearing your fedora for folks hats with your katanas, you might be arrested, but you also might pull hard.

[01:12:28] You know why?

[01:12:29] You're under arrest.

[01:12:30] You didn't save some pussy for the rest of us.

[01:12:34] Also, you know, those the beer hats where you put the beer in them with the straws.

[01:12:39] Oh, but it's a fedora.

[01:12:40] Yeah, it's a fedora instead of the beer because like cool dudes don't drink beer.

[01:12:46] I don't drink.

[01:12:46] It's Powerade because why not?

[01:12:49] You got to stay hydrated when you're pounding that, dude.

[01:12:52] Not Gatorade.

[01:12:53] That's too fancy.

[01:12:54] It's got to be Powerade.

[01:12:54] It's got to be Powerade.

[01:12:56] Blue.

[01:12:58] Blue Powerade.

[01:13:00] Blue Powerade.

[01:13:01] Let's say you're the Pope.

[01:13:02] Let's just pretend for a mother.

[01:13:04] Oh, shit.

[01:13:05] Let's say you're the Pope.

[01:13:08] But you also want to look fashionable.

[01:13:11] You best believe we have a Pope hat fedora.

[01:13:14] A Pope for folks?

[01:13:15] Fedora for folks.

[01:13:16] You know, the Pope does endorse fedora for folks.

[01:13:21] Or like a policeman hat.

[01:13:24] It's like a fedora, but it's got their little badge on it.

[01:13:27] Or a fireman hat with the visor on it.

[01:13:30] Could you imagine those guys that stand out and guard like the royal palace with those big stupid furry hats on?

[01:13:38] And then there's just like a little fedora on top of those.

[01:13:42] I can't imagine.

[01:13:43] It's a real thing that fedora for folks does.

[01:13:47] Fedoras for folks will change your life.

[01:13:50] Whether you're a working Joe, a really, really cool Magic the Gathering fan.

[01:13:55] I don't know where the fuck I'm going with this.

[01:13:56] But fedoras for folks, people.

[01:13:58] It'll change your life.

[01:13:58] Yeah.

[01:13:59] Pick your head up, King.

[01:14:00] Your fedora crown is falling.

[01:14:02] Oh, a fedora crown.

[01:14:04] Oh my God, that's good.

[01:14:05] It's got an actual crown on it.

[01:14:07] Also, fuck you, Sam Jackman.

[01:14:08] Thank you for sponsoring this show.

[01:14:30] And we're back.

[01:14:32] Aaron, what was your hub world you want to talk about so bad?

[01:14:35] Okay, I've got a couple.

[01:14:36] Because I noticed Kiefer has End of Time from Chrono Trigger, which is really, really cool.

[01:14:41] I really love that.

[01:14:42] Still haven't played it.

[01:14:43] Can a song just carry a hub world on its back?

[01:14:46] Because oh my fucking God, dude.

[01:14:48] I think it could.

[01:14:49] That's exactly how I feel with Cast Away Village, man.

[01:14:52] Yeah, End of Time.

[01:14:53] No, I'll let you talk about that because it's your pick.

[01:14:56] I don't want to steal the one from you.

[01:14:58] It's like, I don't have so much to say.

[01:14:59] But it's a great one.

[01:15:01] That's just one I wanted to throw out there as a shout out.

[01:15:03] It's not robust or anything like that, but it is perfect atmosphere.

[01:15:07] It takes you to different points in time.

[01:15:10] That just sole lamp post is such an evocative image.

[01:15:15] In the bucket.

[01:15:16] It's just in the bucket.

[01:15:18] In the bucket.

[01:15:18] I'm looking it up.

[01:15:19] Yeah.

[01:15:20] I don't know what you're talking about.

[01:15:21] I haven't played Chrono Trigger before.

[01:15:22] Go play it, man.

[01:15:23] Go play it.

[01:15:24] I know.

[01:15:24] Talk about it.

[01:15:25] If there's like five games you need to play, Chrono Trigger is in that top five and it

[01:15:30] ain't number five.

[01:15:32] And a little training area where your characters can learn their elements and learn different

[01:15:38] spells and shit too.

[01:15:39] That's really cool.

[01:15:41] Yeah.

[01:15:42] The one I really wanted to talk about is, I've actually had three.

[01:15:46] I'm bouncing around.

[01:15:46] But Shining Force HQ and any Shining Force game is just really fun to come back to all

[01:15:51] the time because it's got everything.

[01:15:53] Even in the first game, you come back to the Shining Force HQ, which is literally in

[01:15:56] every fucking town.

[01:15:58] And you have like a little bar there.

[01:16:00] All of your folks are there.

[01:16:02] All your homies are there just chilling.

[01:16:04] Yeah.

[01:16:05] They better be with fedoras.

[01:16:06] Otherwise, they're fucking they're executed in public.

[01:16:09] Get out of here.

[01:16:11] With katanas.

[01:16:12] With katanas.

[01:16:14] But yeah, you're the Shining Force HQ.

[01:16:17] It's got a little bar area.

[01:16:19] You can go over there and hang out.

[01:16:20] It's got a little area like a barracks with your armory and shit like that.

[01:16:24] And all your people are there.

[01:16:25] You can go up and talk to them.

[01:16:26] If they haven't been in your party for a while, they'll be like, come on, boss.

[01:16:29] Let me into the let me into the fight.

[01:16:31] I'll be good.

[01:16:32] I promise.

[01:16:32] Or they'll say some other stuff that definitely not as like emotional or deep as like a support

[01:16:38] conversation from Fire Emblem.

[01:16:40] But it's still really, really fucking cool to come back to Shining Force HQ now and then

[01:16:45] and just hanging out with the homies.

[01:16:48] The school, not the derail or anything, but the school from Fire Emblem.

[01:16:52] Yeah.

[01:16:53] What is it?

[01:16:54] Three houses.

[01:16:55] Yeah.

[01:16:55] Yeah.

[01:16:56] That's a hub world.

[01:16:57] Oh, yeah.

[01:16:58] Yep.

[01:16:58] 100%.

[01:16:59] That was right below Shining Force HQ, man.

[01:17:01] Yeah, that one's.

[01:17:02] Oh, that place is so fucking cool.

[01:17:04] You can go fishing there.

[01:17:06] I keep fucking with my hair a lot because I'm trying to like fidget with something while

[01:17:09] I talk.

[01:17:11] You need a fedora.

[01:17:13] I do, too.

[01:17:13] I do need a fedora, dude.

[01:17:14] For me, it just keeps getting in my eyes and my ears.

[01:17:18] Dude.

[01:17:19] Yeah.

[01:17:19] The magic of hub worlds is that they make places that you would not want to go in real

[01:17:22] life seem so fucking cool in a video game.

[01:17:25] Like school.

[01:17:26] Get that shit out of here.

[01:17:27] I stopped going for a reason.

[01:17:28] I graduated.

[01:17:31] Fake school.

[01:17:32] Yeah, but could you fish at school?

[01:17:34] Yeah.

[01:17:35] That's true.

[01:17:36] But think about Yasu something high school from Persona 4.

[01:17:42] Oh, Yasugami High?

[01:17:43] Yeah.

[01:17:44] Fishing for bitches.

[01:17:46] You go in there.

[01:17:47] You get your social links up.

[01:17:48] You talk.

[01:17:49] You figure out some mysteries.

[01:17:51] Go to fucking science club or whatever.

[01:17:52] I want to go back to school.

[01:17:53] Yeah.

[01:17:53] Go to science club.

[01:17:54] Go to soccer club.

[01:17:55] Meet friends.

[01:17:55] Dude, listen.

[01:17:57] I'm going back.

[01:17:58] I'm 30 years old.

[01:17:59] I'll fit right in.

[01:18:00] You can be a teacher.

[01:18:01] That's an option.

[01:18:03] I don't want to be a teacher.

[01:18:04] I want to be a student.

[01:18:04] Okay, cool.

[01:18:05] But I don't really.

[01:18:07] Anyway.

[01:18:10] Maybe I shouldn't go back to school.

[01:18:12] I don't think I'll.

[01:18:12] I don't think.

[01:18:13] Oh, God.

[01:18:17] Anyway, that's a hub world.

[01:18:18] That's a good one.

[01:18:19] School's a hub world.

[01:18:20] Just like in real life.

[01:18:21] Yeah.

[01:18:21] Just like in real life.

[01:18:22] Now that we're on the top.

[01:18:23] That's where my locker is.

[01:18:25] Now that we're on the topic of Atlas.

[01:18:26] The Stray Sheep from Catherine.

[01:18:28] That's a really, really cool one, too.

[01:18:29] You can learn a little.

[01:18:30] You know what?

[01:18:31] I haven't played Catherine.

[01:18:32] Dude.

[01:18:33] I have.

[01:18:33] I've seen my friend play it, but I played it when it came out and I don't remember a thing

[01:18:36] about it other than the gameplay.

[01:18:38] Get on it, dude.

[01:18:40] Get on it, dude.

[01:18:41] That's all I remember from Catherine.

[01:18:42] Edge.

[01:18:43] Edge.

[01:18:43] Oh.

[01:18:44] Or Undo.

[01:18:46] Undo.

[01:18:46] No, that's really cool, man.

[01:18:48] So like there'll be little anime cut scenes every so often.

[01:18:53] And then.

[01:18:54] Did Atlas make that?

[01:18:56] Yeah.

[01:18:56] Yeah.

[01:18:56] Right.

[01:18:57] Then you go to the bar and hang out with your homies and you can order different drinks.

[01:19:01] Then the game has these little bits where it'll teach you shit about different alcohols

[01:19:05] whether because you can get beer, sake, wine, or like a cocktail.

[01:19:09] And you can go around the bar and talk to different people.

[01:19:13] You can go to the bathroom to save your game or look at your phone while you're taking a shit.

[01:19:16] Holy shit, I'm sold.

[01:19:17] Damn, that is a hub world.

[01:19:19] That's a hub world.

[01:19:20] You can go to the jukebox and it has different Atlas tunes in there.

[01:19:23] It has shit from Etrian Odyssey, which I fucking love.

[01:19:54] Ooh.

[01:19:55] One of the bosses is like a weird, like deformed, disfigured baby.

[01:20:00] That's literally me.

[01:20:01] Just like Resident Evil 8.

[01:20:02] Just like Resident Evil 8.

[01:20:04] Isn't it?

[01:20:05] Yeah.

[01:20:05] I want to go towards Warp Room from Crash Bandicoot and Spyro Homeworld because those are some traditional...

[01:20:17] Those are foundational.

[01:20:18] ...foundational hub worlds for the PlayStation and specifically Crash Bandicoot 2.

[01:20:23] Warp Room is quite literally just a hub.

[01:20:29] Like you go back there and you choose which world you want to go into.

[01:20:35] And yeah, it is foundationally the start of...

[01:20:39] Crash Bandicoot 2...

[01:20:40] No.

[01:20:40] What was the first hub world?

[01:20:43] What was in the...

[01:20:44] I'm getting my stuff crossed because Crash 3's Warped has this...

[01:20:50] I know you go to different little parts and you get the hub world a little bigger.

[01:20:54] I'm trying to remember the difference between Crash 2 and Crash 3.

[01:20:56] Two, I just remember you get portaled in and then you just like...

[01:20:59] I thought you just choose.

[01:21:01] Like you go around.

[01:21:02] Oh yeah.

[01:21:02] Because that's Wrath of Cortex.

[01:21:04] Yeah.

[01:21:04] Cortex has the monitor or the hologram that's talking at you.

[01:21:09] Yeah.

[01:21:10] Yeah.

[01:21:11] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[01:21:11] So it's just like a circular thing and then...

[01:21:13] Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[01:21:14] And that's why...

[01:21:15] That's why it's just something to be said that those are...

[01:21:20] They're not the beginning because we go Chrono Trigger.

[01:21:24] Well, Chrono Trigger I've never played but from what I saw, the out of time, end of time?

[01:21:30] Yeah, end of time.

[01:21:30] End of time.

[01:21:31] Whatever that is.

[01:21:32] You can move around and stuff.

[01:21:34] And that game came out when?

[01:21:35] 19...

[01:21:36] Like 95?

[01:21:37] Yeah, 95 sounds right.

[01:21:39] God, what was the first hub world?

[01:21:41] You guys keep talking.

[01:21:42] I'm going to find the...

[01:21:43] I think I looked this up because it's like some game from like 19...

[01:21:47] Like it's like the late 80s, early 90s, I'm imagining.

[01:21:49] Jesus Christ.

[01:21:51] Damn, Pong?

[01:21:52] I mean, you do come back to it.

[01:21:54] Who framed Roger Rabbit?

[01:21:56] No, it's not.

[01:21:57] I don't know.

[01:21:58] No, it's not.

[01:22:00] Yeah, according to Giant Bomb, the concept dates back to 005 in 1981 and Dragon Buster 1984.

[01:22:07] The concept of a hub building...

[01:22:08] Castle first appeared in Sega's Castle of Illusion in 1990, which inspired Super Mario 64 1996.

[01:22:16] Oh!

[01:22:17] That's cool.

[01:22:19] Some history.

[01:22:19] We're getting some history today, guys.

[01:22:22] Yeah.

[01:22:22] Remember where you came from.

[01:22:23] Possibly the Castle of Illusion.

[01:22:26] Starring Mickey Mouse.

[01:22:28] It's a good-ass game.

[01:22:29] Michael Mouse.

[01:22:30] Yeah.

[01:22:31] Michael B. Mouse.

[01:22:34] Michael B. Mouse.

[01:22:35] I think also...

[01:22:38] Is there any ones that you guys want to talk about?

[01:22:41] Because I think the next one that I might slam down might be something worth really investigating into because...

[01:22:47] I am fresh out of picks at this point.

[01:22:52] Okay, Jerry's gone, but Kiefer, you...

[01:22:54] I'll shout out the hub worlds in the FromSoft series of...

[01:22:57] That's what I was...

[01:22:58] From Demon's Souls onward.

[01:22:59] Firelink Shrine, specifically in Dark Souls, is wonderful because of the way that that is like...

[01:23:04] Everything circles back to that one safe area you have in the game.

[01:23:10] And all the personalities and everybody...

[01:23:13] It's hard to call it safe because some shady people are going to say some vague bullshit that if you accidentally press the wrong button, then your shit's fucked for that ending.

[01:23:24] But it is a place where you will not be aggroed until you go down into the graveyard for the first time you turn on the game and just assume like,

[01:23:31] Yeah, I'm going right.

[01:23:32] Why are these skeletons kicking my fucking ass?

[01:23:34] Skeletons?

[01:23:35] Because you're supposed to go left.

[01:23:36] Why are you going to the Undead Burg, you stupid asshole?

[01:23:38] Yeah.

[01:23:39] But it's a very wonderfully crafted hub world because of the way that it connects the map to everything.

[01:23:47] Yeah, it's literally the central of the whole fucking map.

[01:23:52] That's where...

[01:23:53] Sorry, Aaron.

[01:23:54] No, that's all I had to say.

[01:23:56] It's just really cool.

[01:23:57] I was just going to say that that's where I was going to go next because that is, I think, Dark Souls...

[01:24:03] Or I guess Demon's Souls not so much because it is more of a traditional hub world.

[01:24:08] You go back and you go to the different levels.

[01:24:10] But starting with Dark Souls, then onwards, maybe not the Hunter's Dream.

[01:24:14] They're hub worlds that are openly connected to everything else.

[01:24:20] Mostly everything.

[01:24:20] I mean, you have to take different routes to get places.

[01:24:23] But it's the modern hub world.

[01:24:27] Yeah.

[01:24:27] Yeah.

[01:24:28] Like the way that the hub works in Elden Ring and Bloodborne specifically, there is a real

[01:24:34] life analog to it on the map, which is this greater lore application of like, well, where

[01:24:39] the fuck am I going every time I go back to the hub?

[01:24:41] Because I just found it on the map and it's not the same, but it's the same.

[01:24:46] What the fuck?

[01:24:47] But yeah, Considio.

[01:24:48] Well, I was going to say that if you go into Hunter's Dream, it's a dream.

[01:24:53] Yeah.

[01:24:53] Well...

[01:24:53] I think the coolest part about Hunter's Dream, though, is the fact that the last boss takes

[01:24:57] place there.

[01:24:58] Dude.

[01:24:59] That is...

[01:25:00] Was...

[01:25:01] Oh.

[01:25:02] And then as you go, as the night progresses and it starts falling apart...

[01:25:06] Yeah.

[01:25:07] Absolutely.

[01:25:08] And then you get to that...

[01:25:08] There's a reason why people love Bloodborne.

[01:25:12] There's a fucking reason.

[01:25:14] It's an amazing game.

[01:25:15] Aaron, have you ever played Bloodborne?

[01:25:16] Fantastic.

[01:25:17] No.

[01:25:18] Aaron.

[01:25:19] Oh, Aaron.

[01:25:20] Oh.

[01:25:21] We...

[01:25:21] And that's the show today, folks.

[01:25:23] Yeah.

[01:25:26] Tricky Explosive.

[01:25:27] I know, dude.

[01:25:28] I have this...

[01:25:29] I don't even have to put my audio levels down.

[01:25:32] You're...

[01:25:32] I have this steelbook, Bloodborne.

[01:25:35] Funny thing about Bloodborne, I had food poisoning when it came out, the day it came

[01:25:38] out.

[01:25:38] Oh, man.

[01:25:39] 4D.

[01:25:40] And I played a little bit of it.

[01:25:42] And you know in the beginning scene when the werewolves come up to your bed and he's

[01:25:46] like...

[01:25:48] Tickling your taint.

[01:25:49] I started having fever dreams that he was...

[01:25:52] I thought I was awake.

[01:25:53] I was dreaming.

[01:25:54] But I was looking under my brother's bed because at the time we were sharing a room.

[01:25:59] And the fucking werewolf was coming out towards me.

[01:26:02] And I was like, holy shit dog.

[01:26:04] And then I woke up and I was like, oh my God.

[01:26:05] And I was so scared.

[01:26:07] So that's very burned into my brain.

[01:26:09] But Bloodborne is...

[01:26:12] Aaron, you gotta play it.

[01:26:13] I will.

[01:26:14] That's all I'm gonna say.

[01:26:14] I don't wanna keep going.

[01:26:15] You just have to play it.

[01:26:16] It's just a fantastic game.

[01:26:17] Is it?

[01:26:18] Oh.

[01:26:19] Is it?

[01:26:19] Yes.

[01:26:20] I'll buy a used PS4 and I'll play it.

[01:26:23] Yeah, you're gonna have to get a PS4 to play it.

[01:26:24] Hey, guess what?

[01:26:24] I got good news for you.

[01:26:25] That PS4 emulator is coming along real good.

[01:26:28] There you go.

[01:26:29] The Bloodborne machine.

[01:26:30] They're literally using the Bloodborne remastered for PC now.

[01:26:35] Yeah.

[01:26:35] Ooh.

[01:26:36] That's amazing.

[01:26:36] That's cool.

[01:26:37] But to go back to hub worlds.

[01:26:39] Bloodborne, another example of a hub world that's changing.

[01:26:43] Yeah.

[01:26:43] Demon's Souls.

[01:26:45] I really like Majula.

[01:26:46] Demon's Souls.

[01:26:47] Yeah.

[01:26:48] Majula.

[01:26:48] Oh, man.

[01:26:48] I really like Majula.

[01:26:50] It's so Majula.

[01:26:50] Majula is probably my favorite.

[01:26:52] Majula Awangala.

[01:26:53] Yeah.

[01:26:53] That's what?

[01:26:54] Dark Souls 2?

[01:26:55] Yeah.

[01:26:56] Yeah.

[01:26:56] Dark Souls 2.

[01:26:57] It's my favorite one.

[01:26:58] You have that fucking endless ocean on that one side of the town.

[01:27:02] And you can stand on the cliff and just fucking stare at it.

[01:27:04] And it feels alive, dude.

[01:27:06] And you can jump off of it like I've done 80 million times.

[01:27:09] It's so beautiful.

[01:27:09] It's great.

[01:27:09] You can jump off it.

[01:27:11] Dude, you can do anything.

[01:27:12] You can fly.

[01:27:13] Yeah.

[01:27:13] Get on your roof and jump off and fly.

[01:27:15] And you unlock all the different little houses as you go along.

[01:27:18] You can find people out in the world and say, hey, dog, there's a sweet little fucking

[01:27:22] town with nothing at all to do.

[01:27:24] Do you want to head back there and be our blacksmith?

[01:27:26] And Big Dog will be like, you bet, homie.

[01:27:29] And he'll, we got a haunted house.

[01:27:30] You can check that place out.

[01:27:32] Yeah.

[01:27:32] Dude, there's the house with that creepy fucking fat cat.

[01:27:36] That's really cool.

[01:27:37] Real estate.

[01:27:38] That's real estate.

[01:27:39] Yeah.

[01:27:41] Dark Souls 2.

[01:27:42] I mean, I guess I can understand why people don't like it.

[01:27:45] But dude, Majula.

[01:27:46] I can break down why I don't like it.

[01:27:48] But I do love it.

[01:27:50] Majula is just really cool.

[01:27:51] I really, I liked Dark Souls 2.

[01:27:53] Not as much as 1 for sure.

[01:27:55] But yeah.

[01:27:57] Majula.

[01:27:58] What was Dark Souls 3?

[01:28:00] I don't know.

[01:28:01] I played like 30 minutes and got bored.

[01:28:03] There was, there is a hub world that is more akin to a traditional like Demon's Souls Bloodborne.

[01:28:09] Because Dark Souls 3 is all about like, oh shit, it's Dark Souls 1 again.

[01:28:13] But what the hell happened?

[01:28:15] Yes.

[01:28:16] Damn.

[01:28:17] Dark Souls 3 is crazy.

[01:28:17] I love Dark Souls 3 though.

[01:28:19] Yeah.

[01:28:19] No, same.

[01:28:20] I just like From Software in general, I think.

[01:28:24] Oh.

[01:28:25] You just made the sound that they make when you get hurt in Dark Souls.

[01:28:31] Oh.

[01:28:34] Bro, I make, I make noises.

[01:28:36] Just turn it to the mist.

[01:28:37] He just turned it to the fucking mist.

[01:28:39] Yeah.

[01:28:42] You died appears on my screen.

[01:28:45] Is there any retro FromSoft games that have a hub world?

[01:28:49] Eternal Ring.

[01:28:51] No.

[01:28:51] No, not Eternal.

[01:28:52] Yeah, Eternal Ring has one.

[01:28:53] Not like the Souls series, no.

[01:28:55] No.

[01:28:55] Nothing crazy.

[01:28:57] I don't think so, dude.

[01:28:58] I'm trying to run through everything we talked about, but I don't think so.

[01:29:02] No.

[01:29:03] Aaron, shall we get to the sad part of the episode, but the generous part of the episode?

[01:29:08] We shall.

[01:29:09] All right.

[01:29:10] So this is the saddest part of the episode because we have to say goodbye, but we always

[01:29:15] do it in a way that we leave the listener with some little trinkets, little gifts.

[01:29:19] So it is technically the most generous part of the episode, and we call it, hit it, Aaron.

[01:29:27] Random Recommendated Games.

[01:29:31] Yes, that's right.

[01:29:32] Random Recommendated Games.

[01:29:34] So this is where we randomly recommendate a game that we are currently playing.

[01:29:39] For you two that have probably never heard that term before, it is a term that I stumbled

[01:29:44] upon after trying to say recommend several times and flopping it, and I said, fuck it.

[01:29:50] Recommendate sounds better.

[01:29:52] I'm going with it.

[01:29:53] Yep.

[01:29:54] It's got a certain genesis.

[01:29:56] Yeah.

[01:29:57] A genesis-siss-sissation.

[01:29:58] Yeah.

[01:30:00] So I have cysts too.

[01:30:02] You guys are the guests, so I would encourage you guys to recommend some games.

[01:30:09] Kiefer.

[01:30:10] This alphabetical seniority thing is great for me.

[01:30:14] Right.

[01:30:15] So last time I was on here, we talked about Bellatro.

[01:30:19] Yes.

[01:30:19] We also, we talked about Marvel Rivals a little bit during this segment too.

[01:30:23] Hey, guess what?

[01:30:24] Marvel Rivals is still very free and still very much available to play.

[01:30:28] That's true.

[01:30:29] And I'm having a great time with it.

[01:30:30] I have like five games I'm supposed to be playing for select and start right now, and

[01:30:34] instead I am playing some Marvel Rivals.

[01:30:37] Oh shit.

[01:30:37] And I am kicking ass.

[01:30:38] I'm like, I'm on the upper end of gold tier and competitive.

[01:30:42] Damn.

[01:30:42] It's Penny Parker.

[01:30:44] So if you see a Penny Parker fucking up, that's probably me.

[01:30:46] Hi.

[01:30:47] Hello.

[01:30:47] Sorry.

[01:30:49] Marvel Rivals.

[01:30:50] It's good.

[01:30:50] I did not think we'd ever get Overwatch ever again, but it is hit.

[01:30:55] It's finally scratching that itch, especially, you know, Jerry, you know, you and I have

[01:30:59] our like feelings about, you know, preservation.

[01:31:01] Overwatch is gone.

[01:31:03] Yeah.

[01:31:03] You can't play Overwatch anymore.

[01:31:06] Yeah.

[01:31:06] That stings still.

[01:31:07] If you miss it, check out Marvel Rivals.

[01:31:10] It's free.

[01:31:11] Hell yeah.

[01:31:12] I say, I second that.

[01:31:14] I, it's so good.

[01:31:15] Yeah.

[01:31:15] Fine.

[01:31:16] We'll have to play sometime, man.

[01:31:17] I still haven't checked it out.

[01:31:18] And the way you and Jared described it in the Emerald episode made it sound so fucking

[01:31:23] fun.

[01:31:24] Yeah.

[01:31:25] It's, it's like, you will play it, especially if you're playing with like a squad.

[01:31:28] It's gonna, you're just gonna have a fun time.

[01:31:30] It's, it's just, it's great.

[01:31:32] As an Overwatch, like I used to play a lot of, not competitive, but like ranked Overwatch.

[01:31:37] And this is definitely, it's feels.

[01:31:41] Yeah.

[01:31:41] Yeah.

[01:31:42] But that's not my recommendation.

[01:31:44] Mine, funny enough, is Simon's Quest.

[01:31:47] Why?

[01:31:47] Castlevania 2.

[01:31:49] Explain yourself.

[01:31:50] So, okay.

[01:31:53] Like OG unmodded?

[01:31:55] Like OG unmodded Simon's Quest.

[01:31:58] Raw uncut Simon's Quest.

[01:32:00] Just raw uncut Simon's Quest.

[01:32:01] Uncircumcised Simon's Quest.

[01:32:03] Simon's Quest, baby.

[01:32:04] Episode title, Aaron.

[01:32:05] With the crust still on.

[01:32:10] Uncircumcised Simon's Quest.

[01:32:16] Perfect.

[01:32:17] There it is.

[01:32:17] That's, that's the title.

[01:32:18] Raven's Simone's Quest.

[01:32:18] Sorry.

[01:32:19] Go ahead.

[01:32:22] Anyway.

[01:32:22] Wait.

[01:32:23] So I have been playing Castlevania games for my video and I had never really gotten into

[01:32:30] Simon's Quest.

[01:32:31] I've played every Castlevania game.

[01:32:33] I've never beaten Simon's Quest.

[01:32:34] It's like one of the only Castlevania games I've never beaten.

[01:32:37] And so I was like, fuck it.

[01:32:38] I'm just going to play a little bit to get a little bit of footage.

[01:32:41] And I started playing it and I was like, holy shit, this is a good game to me.

[01:32:47] I thought it was great.

[01:32:48] And I was sitting there and I played and I couldn't put it down for like four hours.

[01:32:52] Oh shit.

[01:32:53] And I was like, and I was like, everybody hates this game.

[01:32:55] No, it is good.

[01:32:56] It's just, it has things that are like in here or bad.

[01:33:02] Yes.

[01:33:03] Game mechanic things that like kneeling down.

[01:33:06] Yeah.

[01:33:06] It's just like weird, obscure shit that people are like, why would you like, why, why would

[01:33:11] you put that in there?

[01:33:12] But, but it's like, oh man, I don't know how to describe it.

[01:33:17] It's just like a good NES game or super.

[01:33:21] Is it SNES?

[01:33:23] Yeah.

[01:33:23] Yeah.

[01:33:24] And I'm just sitting there and I'm like, I just can't describe it.

[01:33:27] I'm just, that's just what I've been playing when I have chances when I'm not playing

[01:33:32] really, I'm not really playing anything right now.

[01:33:33] I've just been cracking down on editing.

[01:33:35] But I've just been playing in my bed, Simon's Quest 2 or Cast Made to Simon's Quest.

[01:33:40] It is a good game.

[01:33:42] I do.

[01:33:42] People should give it a try.

[01:33:44] I do back it as a good game.

[01:33:46] I have like the, I mean, I have the original, but I also have a couple of ROM hack versions

[01:33:51] of it that are like quality of life ones.

[01:33:54] One of them adds like a map, like a full on map.

[01:33:57] Damn.

[01:33:58] See, that would be so nice.

[01:34:01] So it is a good game though.

[01:34:03] You're, you're absolutely right.

[01:34:04] It is good.

[01:34:05] And I feel like, you know, I feel like it's like overlooked because it's like a meme game

[01:34:10] because people, it's fun to make fun of this game.

[01:34:14] Yeah.

[01:34:15] And it is, it is a different, like, cause you know, Castlevania one happened.

[01:34:19] That was that.

[01:34:19] And then Castlevania three was basically a harkening back to Castlevania one.

[01:34:25] But Simon's Quest is like a different breed, but it's just, I was just, I don't know.

[01:34:29] The Dark Souls 2 of Castlevania.

[01:34:31] It's the, it's the Dark Souls 2 of Castlevania.

[01:34:33] It gotta be, but it's, I don't know.

[01:34:36] That's my recommendation.

[01:34:37] Recommended it.

[01:34:38] Whatever.

[01:34:39] Recommended it.

[01:34:40] Did it, did it, did it.

[01:34:41] Mermeka did it.

[01:34:42] Aaron.

[01:34:43] Wanna go first?

[01:34:44] Let me tell you about Bubble.

[01:34:45] I was wondering what the fuck this was.

[01:34:47] I thought this was like a, you were, you were typing while you had a stroke.

[01:34:50] This is an NES game that's new.

[01:34:55] Like somebody made this new.

[01:34:58] Let me read you the description.

[01:35:00] You're a bubble.

[01:35:01] Water is your friend and solid blocks kill you.

[01:35:05] Hold A to dive, then release and let buoyancy handle the rest.

[01:35:08] Also, let's find all the duckies.

[01:35:11] So essentially this game is like a platformer, sort of.

[01:35:16] You're a little bubble.

[01:35:17] You're just a little bubble and you're going around like this kind of seamless open map.

[01:35:24] And it's sort of a Metroidvania, but it's sort of is, but it's sort of not.

[01:35:29] Like you do get like, you start to discover that you could do different things.

[01:35:34] There's like a certain degree of like physics to the game too.

[01:35:38] Like with the buoyancy, like when you hold A to like go down and then when you shoot up,

[01:35:42] I don't want to say too much about it other than if you, if you want to emulate it, go ahead and emulate it.

[01:35:49] It's spelled B-O-B-L bubble.

[01:35:53] And yeah, it's just, I think one dude made this game and it's just like a, it's an NES, new NES game.

[01:36:00] I love that kind of shit, dude.

[01:36:02] I'm going to, I know.

[01:36:04] Like, uh.

[01:36:04] I see so many.

[01:36:06] Grimace's birthday?

[01:36:07] Yeah, what the fuck?

[01:36:09] No, I was going to say the, um, that police quest game.

[01:36:12] Well, Grimace's birthday looks kind of fucking fun.

[01:36:14] I might as well play that.

[01:36:15] But yeah, that police quest game for, I think like Game Boy Color or something that somebody made.

[01:36:21] Like a police turn-based RPG or whatever.

[01:36:23] No way.

[01:36:25] Yeah, look at that police quest.

[01:36:26] That's not my random recommendation.

[01:36:28] Police quest.

[01:36:29] Yeah, look up police quest, dude.

[01:36:32] Cop quest.

[01:36:33] Police quest game.

[01:36:34] It's a, it's a thing, but no, it's not my recommendation.

[01:36:38] So Kirby's Dream Land 3, I just fucking beat it earlier today.

[01:36:43] And man.

[01:36:45] Yeah, dude.

[01:36:46] My first beat since November, actually.

[01:36:48] But fucking.

[01:36:49] Damn.

[01:36:50] No, not November.

[01:36:52] Yeah.

[01:36:54] Fucking, whenever you ask anybody about Kirby, like nobody ever fucking talks.

[01:36:59] I put my hand like right in front of my face there for a second.

[01:37:01] Nobody ever talks about Kirby's Dream Land 3 for some goddamn reason.

[01:37:05] It's bullshit.

[01:37:07] Because first off, the game looks fucking awesome.

[01:37:10] It's got this like hand-drawn kind of like crafty almost aesthetic to the, to the art style.

[01:37:15] It's really, really cool.

[01:37:17] It's like kind of almost got this like weird dark vibe to it.

[01:37:22] Because there's like these Kirby clones walking around in certain parts of each level that you can't get to or interact with.

[01:37:30] That's really fucking weird.

[01:37:31] And then like the last boss is this like dark evil eyeball that like cuts its own eyeball and shoots blood at you, which is weird for a Kirby game.

[01:37:41] Yeah, there's some crazy shit in that game.

[01:37:44] Dude.

[01:37:44] Yeah, dude.

[01:37:44] It is.

[01:37:45] It actually is.

[01:37:46] It's the only one that I didn't play and I played it when it popped onto the NSO.

[01:37:51] God, it's so good.

[01:37:52] It's awesome, man.

[01:37:53] It is.

[01:37:54] It is really good.

[01:37:55] It's not as good as Superstar, but it is really good.

[01:37:58] And I agree with Aaron.

[01:38:00] Like the look of the game too.

[01:38:01] Like that game and Yoshi's Island are both two games that were like very late on the Super Nintendo that just have this incredible art style.

[01:38:13] That's like it almost looks like it's hand drawn before like hand drawn games were even a thing.

[01:38:19] And they use they use the hardware to its absolute fucking fullest with Dream Land 3.

[01:38:24] Like there's I messaged Jerry about this too.

[01:38:27] There's different parts of certain levels where there will be obstacles kind of in the foreground, like in front of the screen.

[01:38:34] But they're they're transparent in a way that you don't really ever see in SNES games.

[01:38:38] And there's a lot of parallax scrolling in the background too as you're running through levels that you also don't see in a lot of SNES games without like shit tons of slowdown.

[01:38:49] Oh, and the animal friends.

[01:38:50] I almost forgot about those.

[01:38:51] There's Rick and the boys.

[01:38:53] Dude, I fucking love Rick is my man.

[01:38:56] So there's there's Rick the hamster.

[01:38:58] There's the calico cat.

[01:38:59] There's the fish.

[01:39:00] There's the small bird.

[01:39:01] There's the owl.

[01:39:02] That's it.

[01:39:03] I'm pretty sure.

[01:39:04] I thought there was only three of them in that one, but maybe I didn't unlock them.

[01:39:07] No, they're all there, man.

[01:39:09] Maybe they had I think they only had three in Kirby's Dream Land, too.

[01:39:12] But yeah, they had a lot of replay ability because like each each friend is good at something.

[01:39:17] Whereas it's got all drawbacks as well, too.

[01:39:20] I don't know.

[01:39:21] Kirby's Dream Land 3 is great.

[01:39:22] Go play.

[01:39:22] It's not a snappy or fast a superstar, but dude, it's good.

[01:39:27] It's so good.

[01:39:28] I back that.

[01:39:29] Cool.

[01:39:44] Well, guys, thanks.

[01:39:45] Hold on.

[01:39:47] Thanks for having me.

[01:39:48] Sorry.

[01:39:48] I had to reschedule like twice.

[01:39:51] It's all good, man.

[01:39:53] I'm just happy to be here.

[01:39:54] Yeah, man.

[01:39:55] I'm just saying.

[01:39:55] It's great having me.

[01:39:56] I didn't think I was going to be able to make it, but yeah.

[01:39:58] I'm glad you did.

[01:40:00] Thank you.

[01:40:01] Thank you.

[01:40:01] Thank you.

[01:40:01] Thank you.

[01:40:02] Yeah.

[01:40:02] Thank you.

[01:40:02] Thank you.

[01:40:03] Cool.

[01:40:03] All right, everybody.

[01:40:04] Aaron, get us the fuck out of here.

[01:40:05] I'm trying.

[01:40:08] Anyway, folks, if you listen up to this point, I love you.
