[00:00:00] That reminds me actually one time we had to one of our friends had to buy a couple extra TVs for a stream we participate in every year and at the last minute one year you realize they didn't have enough TV so they had to like run to target and get some and the the cashier said the whole thing of like do you want to open up a credit card to pay for these or whatever.

[00:00:30] And he's like no that's okay and she said you will regret this.

[00:00:38] You'll pay dearly with your life.

[00:00:43] Wee!

[00:00:44] Wee!

[00:00:45] Wee!

[00:00:47] Wee!

[00:00:47] Wee!

[00:00:48] TVs were cursed.

[00:00:49] I love Bundtcake!

[00:00:51] Heads up!

[00:00:54] What a do everybody it's me Aaron my body falls down the stairs like a slinky.

[00:00:59] And I'm Jerry and I will regret this.

[00:01:02] And you're listening to SuperPod Saga.

[00:01:15] Hey everybody it's SuperPod Saga the second greatest collaboration of all time you know it I know it Jerry knows it.

[00:01:22] And Jerry's back hello Jerry.

[00:01:24] Hi I'm here.

[00:01:25] Yeah are you feeling better?

[00:01:27] Yeah can you tell?

[00:01:28] Yeah you're a lot more serious now they took all the humor out of you with that saline pump or whatever.

[00:01:34] Yeah they drained all that shit out of me took my hopes and dreams away.

[00:01:38] Good.

[00:01:39] And yeah but I'm here I'm ready to get back into my brain is like a can of dog food right now though like I can't think straight.

[00:01:47] So I'm like looking at these notes and I'm like yeah I'm gonna definitely contribute to this.

[00:01:52] That's.

[00:01:53] In a real big way.

[00:01:56] Yeah I mean it really it's uh we can go out of order as much as we need to.

[00:02:00] We'll get we'll get to that here in a little bit.

[00:02:01] But uh yeah so it's SuperPod Saga like I said second greatest collaboration of all time me and Jerry we talk about a different video game topic each week one week at a time.

[00:02:10] Today we're talking about I forgot to edit this in the notes but Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

[00:02:16] I'm so good at podcasting you guys.

[00:02:19] Mm-hmm.

[00:02:20] But uh before we get too into that let's introduce the brand new guests that we have with us today joining us from wait what state are you guys in?

[00:02:29] Illinois.

[00:02:30] We're Illinoisans as we speak.

[00:02:33] Illinoisans.

[00:02:34] Joining us in the red corner two Illinoisans we have Gooey and McKenna from Flashback 64.

[00:02:39] Hello.

[00:02:41] Hello.

[00:02:42] Breath of the Wild to ya.

[00:02:47] Hell yeah.

[00:02:50] Oh it's sorry.

[00:02:52] No it's all good man.

[00:02:53] This is exactly the type of shit I live for it's it's great having you guys on isn't are you guys like the official podcast of Blue Sky is that what everybody keeps saying like.

[00:03:04] That's I guess so.

[00:03:06] I tried to get that going but now I feel like it's gonna go away now that I feel like there's a lot of people coming over.

[00:03:14] Yeah.

[00:03:14] 15 million apparently as of today including Mark Cuban.

[00:03:19] Mark Cuban?

[00:03:20] Yeah.

[00:03:20] What's he doing over here?

[00:03:21] Does he have a podcast?

[00:03:23] Get out of here Mark.

[00:03:23] I hope not.

[00:03:25] Fuck.

[00:03:25] If the Hawk to a girl can have a fucking podcast that makes like number two or three behind Joe Rogan like fuck we're all doomed.

[00:03:33] We're all doomed.

[00:03:34] We should get on there.

[00:03:36] Yeah, we've I think we've got a we're gonna have to accept just being just another this other podcast on Blue Sky when it becomes more normal if it becomes normal.

[00:03:49] I wonder what the official podcast of like Mastodon or threads is.

[00:03:54] I don't want to know when I the one time I really looked at threads it had a it had a bad energy threads really bothers me.

[00:04:03] I don't like threads.

[00:04:04] I've tried it so many times and I'm like this app sucks like doesn't doesn't appeal to me in any way like it's like just shittier Twitter.

[00:04:14] Yeah, but I feel like Blue Sky is like actually better in a lot of ways.

[00:04:19] I'm not like not fully on board with Blue Sky like I'm on board with Blue Sky, but like I think if they keep updating it and adding shit to it, it's going to get real big real quick.

[00:04:32] Yeah, yeah, I definitely especially it was like they added videos and and DMS was a big thing because like that it would be like a big thing.

[00:04:43] That's that I like about Blue Sky is that we've been able to like that there's like less there especially early on.

[00:04:50] There was less people on it, but they're all like focused on a specific thing in our case, like a lot of retro gaming people and stuff.

[00:04:58] And it was like in it was way easier to like directly just like interact with people because there's a lot less noise on there.

[00:05:07] Less noise. Yeah, but then it would be like if you were like wanted to, you know, DM them or something, you'd have to be like, can I email you or something?

[00:05:18] And it was kind of awkward. Can I send you an electronic email, please?

[00:05:22] Yeah, so I think group DMS that would be nice.

[00:05:26] That would be cool or the ability to send gifts and DMS to that'd be really cool because I was trying to send you that great Futurama one but Blue Sky is just like no, no, no gifts in there.

[00:05:38] They'll get there.

[00:05:39] I'm already blanking on the name of the game. Extreme G. I think is what it was.

[00:05:44] Extreme G. Yeah, you had our boys Jameson and Andre on there. That was a really good episode. Really good game.

[00:05:50] And that's yeah, we that's where we really met them through Blue Sky as well.

[00:05:55] And yeah, those are those are cool. Those are cool guests.

[00:05:59] And that was a fun.

[00:06:00] Mm hmm. So I got to know I have I have to know what are your thoughts and where do you stand on mystical ninja 64?

[00:06:10] You haven't played it.

[00:06:11] I haven't played it.

[00:06:12] I I love that game. Actually, that was a big I can't remember if I owned it.

[00:06:18] I believe that had co-op if I'm not mistaken.

[00:06:22] Not that one. The second one, which was Goemon's Great Adventure.

[00:06:25] That was a co-op one that was like a side scroller.

[00:06:28] Okay, gotcha. Yeah, I did have both of those.

[00:06:30] And I think my I'm more fond of the co-op one just because I it's real good have a well, I don't know.

[00:06:36] I played it. I played it as a kid.

[00:06:38] So I always am hesitant to be like, yes, it's great because it's just like how I remember it.

[00:06:44] But I have fond memories of playing that with my brother, like renting it and playing it.

[00:06:48] I think it might have been that we rented that because we had the previous one.

[00:06:55] So, yeah, I'm a fan. I'm a fan of that series.

[00:06:57] I didn't realize until a couple of years ago that there was like even more games like on Super Nintendo.

[00:07:04] Oh, man, there's so many.

[00:07:06] So the ones I want to know are good.

[00:07:09] I would like to play those as well.

[00:07:11] I can't remember who it was on Blue Sky, but they pointed out on NES there was this Goemon turn based RPG.

[00:07:19] Oh, I saw that. Yeah.

[00:07:21] Oh, I can't remember who it was, but someone I interact with quite a bit.

[00:07:24] But yeah, that looks really cool, too.

[00:07:26] Jerry, have you checked that out?

[00:07:28] The one for NES?

[00:07:30] Yeah, it's a turn based RPG.

[00:07:32] Yep.

[00:07:33] That's cool.

[00:07:33] I played a bunch of it.

[00:07:35] It's good.

[00:07:36] Nice.

[00:07:37] Nice, nice, nice.

[00:07:38] Well, Gooey McKenna, go ahead and introduce.

[00:07:40] Introduce yourselves and your show.

[00:07:43] Talk about the games you like.

[00:07:44] And we've got a cool guest question for you guys once you're all good and done with that.

[00:07:49] Go ahead.

[00:07:49] Okay.

[00:07:51] Do you want to?

[00:07:54] Yeah.

[00:07:54] Sure.

[00:07:56] We're really good at promoting ourselves.

[00:08:00] Yeah, I'm co-host of Flashback 64, where we talk about Nintendo 64 games.

[00:08:09] And the, like, culture and history surrounding them.

[00:08:15] Yeah, we're going chronologically through the library.

[00:08:19] Chronologically, yeah.

[00:08:19] I...

[00:08:20] Most of these games I'm playing for the first time.

[00:08:23] There's like a handful that I played as a kid.

[00:08:27] But most of them I'm playing for the first time.

[00:08:30] Mm-hmm.

[00:08:30] And honestly, me too.

[00:08:33] I'm Gooey.

[00:08:34] I'm the other host.

[00:08:35] And I, you know, N64 was one of my big, it was a big console for me as a child.

[00:08:42] I played, you know, so many games on it.

[00:08:45] It was a favorite of mine.

[00:08:46] But, you know, as we're going through, I'm realizing, you know, you don't get...

[00:08:52] When you're a kid, you don't get that many games.

[00:08:54] Yeah.

[00:08:54] Uh, and just so many games that we're playing are like, I'm kind of discovering for the first

[00:09:01] time.

[00:09:02] Especially in, like, genres that I don't often gravitate towards.

[00:09:06] So, um, I feel like we're both kind of on...

[00:09:09] We're both like...

[00:09:09] I thought it was going to be a lot more of like, oh yeah, I remember this.

[00:09:13] I remember this.

[00:09:13] I played this.

[00:09:14] But we're both kind of on a, on a, uh, magic school bus journey together.

[00:09:20] Uh, school bus?

[00:09:21] Going through the nineties.

[00:09:22] Yeah.

[00:09:25] I've, I think it was...

[00:09:27] Yeah, I think it was this year.

[00:09:29] I've recently discovered, um, how goddamn good Castlevania 64 was.

[00:09:35] Oh yeah.

[00:09:36] Hmm.

[00:09:36] Yeah, I've heard that.

[00:09:37] That's, I've not, I've, I love Castlevania, but I have not played that game.

[00:09:41] Specifically, Legacy of Darkness.

[00:09:43] That one is kind of like, it's almost like they took the Castlevania 64 and then they

[00:09:49] just like re-released it, but like updated it a bit and added a bunch of shit to it.

[00:09:54] And yeah, that game went way harder than I thought it was going to.

[00:09:58] And I had a real good time with it.

[00:09:59] And I like wrote that off for years and years and years.

[00:10:02] Even like seeing it, seeing it at the video store, I was like, hmm, not that one.

[00:10:07] But I don't know.

[00:10:09] I just threw it on on a whim and I was like, shit, this is actually real good.

[00:10:13] I like it.

[00:10:15] Hell yeah.

[00:10:16] We've been able to look at some games that have been kind of written off and, and some

[00:10:23] you can, you get it like why, but, uh, it's been fun to like, we've kind of uncovered some,

[00:10:29] maybe more sort of like hidden gems or, you know, games.

[00:10:33] I'm sure if you ask someone about, they'd be like, hell yeah, that game.

[00:10:37] But if you ask someone like what are the best and 64 games, you might not hear.

[00:10:42] So that's been a fun part about going chronologically is you kind of force yourself to.

[00:10:47] What year are you guys at now?

[00:10:48] Well, we only, so this is going to take us.

[00:10:50] How long you think is going to take us McKenna?

[00:10:53] Uh, several years.

[00:10:56] Probably like two decades.

[00:10:57] Cause we cover only like one or two games a month.

[00:11:00] Yeah.

[00:11:01] And there's like whatever, couple hundred, few hundred games.

[00:11:05] So we're only in later, like November, 1997.

[00:11:10] So we're just a year in, but it's been like a year and a half of the show.

[00:11:14] Well, uh, in 2027, when you get to go, I'm on, give me a call and, uh, we'll get you in our, well, look, I got a spreadsheet of all, everyone who said what games they like.

[00:11:26] And I call upon them when the time comes.

[00:11:30] So there are some people are going to be like a conch that you blow into, like, that's what I'm going to have to do in a couple of years.

[00:11:36] You know, society collapse.

[00:11:38] It's funny because that's, that's how I'm on.

[00:11:41] That's how he summons the fucking robot.

[00:11:44] Oh yeah.

[00:11:45] It's impact.

[00:11:46] Yeah.

[00:11:47] He takes out a shell.

[00:11:48] He's like, and just like summons a giant robot with a shell.

[00:11:52] That's cool.

[00:11:54] It's going to be, oh yeah.

[00:11:55] Time for, uh, go man's great adventure.

[00:11:58] I'm going to, and it's going to be the scene from a Lord of the Rings where they're like lighting the, the torches and it's going to go all the way to your house.

[00:12:06] And, and you'll, you'll come, you'll hopefully come bring your army.

[00:12:09] I just look at my wife.

[00:12:10] I'm like, it is time.

[00:12:12] It is time.

[00:12:13] I must, I must away.

[00:12:15] Karen's like, you will regret this.

[00:12:20] Oh boy.

[00:12:21] I, I have for sure dibs on any bomber man.

[00:12:25] I'll, I'll, I'll take just one though.

[00:12:26] Oh fuck off.

[00:12:27] You can't have dibs on bomber man.

[00:12:30] I say just one.

[00:12:31] Well, I want it too.

[00:12:33] And we do it together.

[00:12:34] Okay.

[00:12:35] Cause I fucking love bomber man.

[00:12:38] I know as much as you do.

[00:12:39] Okay.

[00:12:39] Cool.

[00:12:40] Okay.

[00:12:41] We'll work it out.

[00:12:42] Work more.

[00:12:43] We'll work it out.

[00:12:45] Hey, uh, so, so for the two of you, oh no, sorry.

[00:12:47] Go ahead and plug, uh, every, did you guys have anything else you wanted to plug about your, like your show or your socials or anything like that?

[00:12:54] Um, we're on, oh shoot.

[00:12:56] We're on blue sky, uh, flashback 64.

[00:13:00] I'm trying to remember what things we had to put pod on, but you know what?

[00:13:05] If you go to our, uh, our website, which is really cool.

[00:13:08] Um, yeah, that's got all of the links.

[00:13:10] It's got all of our links, which is, uh, I think it's flashback 64.neo cities.org.

[00:13:18] Um, I've been meaning to get an actual doe name, but I kind of think it might be more funny and like sort of retro if we just keep the Neo city name in there.

[00:13:29] It'd be real cool.

[00:13:31] If it could be like flashback 64.neo pets.org or something, dash my space, dash forward slash Christ alive.

[00:13:39] I don't know.

[00:13:40] What kind of money do we have to spend for that?

[00:13:43] $5.

[00:13:44] Yeah.

[00:13:45] Domains are pretty fucking cheap.

[00:13:46] You just get a credit card and do it.

[00:13:48] Oh, if you don't, you'll regret this.

[00:13:53] That's the name on the card.

[00:13:55] You will regret this.

[00:13:56] So every single purchase.

[00:13:58] First name, you.

[00:13:59] Last name, regret this.

[00:14:01] Every single purchase you're, you make, you're like, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, the interest, the interest.

[00:14:07] Like a fucking, uh, like a creaky barn door.

[00:14:09] You're sliding it through.

[00:14:11] Anyway, uh, for both GUI and McKenna, we like to ask, so Jerry, you can ask him.

[00:14:16] This is your bit.

[00:14:16] You do it.

[00:14:17] All right.

[00:14:18] I will.

[00:14:19] Uh, so what we like to do is we like to ask new guests this question.

[00:14:25] Cause it kind of gives us like a little peek behind the curtain to, you know, a more in depth look at yourselves personally.

[00:14:34] And it's just a simple question.

[00:14:36] What's your social security number?

[00:14:38] What type?

[00:14:40] Nine.

[00:14:40] Number address.

[00:14:42] We just like to dox all of our new guests just so that the fans know where they are.

[00:14:46] Uh, no, the question is what is your favorite video game memory?

[00:14:51] Shoot.

[00:14:52] Do you have one?

[00:14:54] Uh, I, I've got a couple, uh, swirling around.

[00:15:01] Swirling around?

[00:15:02] Swirling in my head.

[00:15:03] Yeah.

[00:15:03] Gonna give your memories a swirly.

[00:15:06] Your, your brain is just a Campino.

[00:15:10] Do you guys remember those candies?

[00:15:12] Campino.

[00:15:13] Campino.

[00:15:13] Jerry, every time you say one of your like wild Canadian treats, I just, my brain does

[00:15:19] like a, a kick flip trying to understand.

[00:15:21] Look, I Googled Campino and it pulled up a German singer.

[00:15:24] What the fuck is a Campino?

[00:15:27] Oh, they're cream savers.

[00:15:29] Like a Bambino?

[00:15:30] Okay.

[00:15:30] Yeah, fuck you, they're cream savers.

[00:15:32] They're exactly cream savers.

[00:15:33] What the fuck are you talking about?

[00:15:35] The Campinos.

[00:15:37] You keep saying that, but it doesn't tell me what it is.

[00:15:41] What is it?

[00:15:42] It might've been like a local candy.

[00:15:45] It's like a swirl candy.

[00:15:46] You know?

[00:15:47] So a cream saver.

[00:15:49] Yeah.

[00:15:50] All right.

[00:15:52] Was the question.

[00:15:53] Do we like Campinos?

[00:15:55] They do look good.

[00:15:56] Do we know what they are?

[00:15:57] They look delicious.

[00:15:58] I don't know.

[00:16:00] Yeah.

[00:16:01] Um, yeah.

[00:16:02] What do you, what do you got?

[00:16:03] Well, I was just thinking of a Nintendo 64 related one.

[00:16:08] Oh, okay.

[00:16:09] Um, my, my neighbor had Ocarina of time, which I didn't get for myself and play.

[00:16:18] I was 14.

[00:16:19] But when I was like a little kid, I went over and saw my neighbors playing it.

[00:16:25] And it, it just like stuck in my head for all those years.

[00:16:31] Uh, you know, I like specifically remember seeing Kokiri Forest and, uh, Ganon's Castle

[00:16:41] and the rainbow bridge.

[00:16:43] And just like that game lived rent free in my head for like a decade before I actually,

[00:16:52] uh, you know, had some money and it was like, you know, not, not a ton of money at that time.

[00:16:59] You could get, uh, Ocarina of time, uh, for the N64 at a pretty reasonable price.

[00:17:06] Yeah.

[00:17:06] It just, it just stuck in my head.

[00:17:09] I wanted that game.

[00:17:11] I wasn't even playing it.

[00:17:13] I was just watching someone else play it.

[00:17:16] And that, that was the game that, and that, that got me into Zelda.

[00:17:22] That really like kept me, I always played like Pokemon and I'd say that kept me playing games for a while.

[00:17:30] But, but, but, but, but, but what would you say the first bit of music that comes to mind when you think of Ocarina of time?

[00:17:37] Like what, what is the first song when you, when you think of Ocarina of time, it's like, oh.

[00:17:42] Title screen.

[00:17:43] Title screen.

[00:17:43] Yeah.

[00:17:44] That's gotta be it.

[00:17:45] Yeah.

[00:17:46] Might be Kokiri, uh, villager forest.

[00:17:48] Do, do, do, do, do, do.

[00:17:49] That's usually what I think of too.

[00:17:52] That's definitely up there.

[00:17:54] The title screen's good too.

[00:17:55] Especially when you just start.

[00:17:58] It's good, dude.

[00:17:58] Yeah.

[00:17:59] Yeah.

[00:18:00] Gerudo Valley.

[00:18:02] Oh yeah.

[00:18:02] That's just such fire.

[00:18:04] My God.

[00:18:04] That song.

[00:18:05] I remember like putting the controller down as a child of me and like, what the fuck is this?

[00:18:10] Like, it like made me want to like throw down and I didn't even understand what that meant.

[00:18:16] Like, like when you hear the.

[00:18:20] Yeah.

[00:18:21] Like just the clapping and shit.

[00:18:23] Holy shit.

[00:18:24] I'm going to go listen to that later.

[00:18:25] Do, do, do, do, do, do, do.

[00:18:26] Do, do, do, do.

[00:18:28] Yeah.

[00:18:29] Yeah.

[00:18:30] Yeah.

[00:18:31] Let's go.

[00:18:32] Yeah.

[00:18:34] It's a hell of an intro.

[00:18:35] Oh man.

[00:18:37] That's a good, that's a good memory.

[00:18:39] That's good.

[00:18:39] Gooey.

[00:18:40] How about yourself, man?

[00:18:40] Oh, I, I kept going.

[00:18:43] I was having a hard time because I just kept thinking of different ones.

[00:18:47] You know, I'll, I'll just keep in the same, uh, vein as you.

[00:18:52] When I was in a high school, I was in like, I had like a crappy high school band.

[00:18:59] That was a lot of fun.

[00:19:00] Hell yeah.

[00:19:01] But, uh, we oftentimes we, it was just really three of my, two of my friends, we would hang

[00:19:06] out on the weekends and we would like Friday or something.

[00:19:11] We would like get together and jam for like probably like an hour or something.

[00:19:17] And then we would just spend the rest of the weekend playing smoke on the water for

[00:19:21] an hour.

[00:19:22] Yeah.

[00:19:23] Got it.

[00:19:23] Got it.

[00:19:24] Don't, don't need to improve.

[00:19:26] What else do you need to do?

[00:19:28] One, one octave lower or something.

[00:19:30] I don't know.

[00:19:31] One chord lower.

[00:19:31] I don't know.

[00:19:33] Yeah.

[00:19:33] I didn't write the first time.

[00:19:34] It was awkward.

[00:19:35] I mean, it's fitting because we did, we did not spend a lot of time on our craft.

[00:19:41] We spent a lot more time playing video games the rest of the weekend, um, with my brother

[00:19:47] as well.

[00:19:48] And so, I don't know, we would, we would play at that time.

[00:19:51] Actually, uh, it was like a lot of, uh, like brawl had just come out.

[00:19:56] Um, so it might've been just out of high school.

[00:19:59] I don't remember when exactly that came out, but I graduated in, uh, Oh nine.

[00:20:03] So, um, yeah.

[00:20:06] So anyway, we do a lot of that, but I specifically remember one weekend, uh, waking up and this

[00:20:11] would like all my friends would, they would crash at my mom's place.

[00:20:15] So like, we, it would be just like an extended, uh, uh, sleepover essentially.

[00:20:21] But I remember waking up one day and my friend was in the living room and he started, uh, uh,

[00:20:27] Ocarina of time.

[00:20:28] And he was like, we're going to beat this this weekend.

[00:20:32] Like, like it was our, like this big, big task.

[00:20:36] Um, and it was, but now, now it's like, I played it so many times.

[00:20:40] It's like, not that big of a deal, but yeah, at the time it was like, holy crap.

[00:20:46] We really went on a journey this weekend.

[00:20:50] That's right.

[00:20:51] We were, we were technically adults at that point.

[00:20:54] We were probably like 18 years old.

[00:20:56] So I don't know if that was the best thing to be doing at that time, but you know, we

[00:21:01] should have been finding a job.

[00:21:04] No, you got plenty of time.

[00:21:06] How you would, you just graduated.

[00:21:08] It sounded like you got time.

[00:21:09] No, yeah.

[00:21:10] No, I was working at a gas station actually.

[00:21:12] Oh, okay.

[00:21:13] Even better.

[00:21:16] Speaking of journeys, Aaron, let's, uh, let's say you what's going on a journey.

[00:21:21] Let's go.

[00:21:22] Let's go on a journey.

[00:21:23] Shut the shit down right now.

[00:21:24] I just seen torches are lit up outside.

[00:21:29] I guess they had to go on a journey.

[00:21:31] Uh, okay.

[00:21:34] Just leave the fucking studio.

[00:21:36] We'll take it from here.

[00:21:37] I guess.

[00:21:38] Yeah.

[00:21:38] Oh man.

[00:21:43] Yeah.

[00:21:44] I have one pretty small piece of, uh, important breaking news.

[00:21:49] We, we, we, uh, this just in, there's been a lot of dreamcast games that fans have been

[00:21:54] able to bring back online.

[00:21:56] Cause of course everybody knows the dreamcast online service when they shut it down decades

[00:22:01] ago, but a lot of people are bringing, they're making their own virtual servers for different

[00:22:06] dreamcast games.

[00:22:08] Like fantasy star online has one bunch of other games.

[00:22:11] Um, but this, uh, cool looking little chibi art golf game called golf.

[00:22:16] She, yo, yo, she, you, yo too.

[00:22:19] That one can be played online now and it actually looks really fun.

[00:22:22] There's a full, uh, English translation for it, which is really, really sweet.

[00:22:26] Yeah.

[00:22:27] Of course.

[00:22:27] Always.

[00:22:28] Thank you.

[00:22:29] Fan translators.

[00:22:30] You were doing the Lord's work.

[00:22:32] Love you so much.

[00:22:33] Like, I don't know if there's ever been a better time to be involved in like retro gaming

[00:22:38] because of how many of the games that you'd always see in like a, do you guys remember

[00:22:45] like flipping through like a magazine and it would show you just like the most super pixelated

[00:22:51] piece of shit picture of a game.

[00:22:53] You'd be like, Oh, that looks crazy.

[00:22:55] And it'd be like only in Japan.

[00:22:56] And you'd never hear of it again.

[00:22:58] Like you'd see a picture of it and it'd be like, Oh, I guess that doesn't exist over

[00:23:02] here.

[00:23:02] But like now there's so many fan translations and like ROM hacks getting done.

[00:23:09] I love it.

[00:23:10] Like going back to the Goma and stuff that we were talking about with the super Nintendo

[00:23:15] games, there's a pile of those.

[00:23:17] And for a long time, there was only like one of them that was in English translated because

[00:23:21] there was one that came over here.

[00:23:23] But like in the last five years, they all, they're all translated.

[00:23:28] And like, even like weird, obscure ones.

[00:23:30] Like there's a PS two one that was a fucking prototype that got released and it's playable

[00:23:36] from start to finish and translated.

[00:23:38] I love it.

[00:23:39] What a time to be alive.

[00:23:40] What a time to be alive.

[00:23:43] There was in the, in the previous episode in our shining force episode, uh, I talked about

[00:23:48] there was this Saturn exclusive game, well Saturn exclusive in Japan, Japan, exclusive

[00:23:53] Saturn game, sorry, called princess crown.

[00:23:56] That's like, it's basically pre vanilla where that just got translated.

[00:23:59] Like the day before you recorded that episode, this is a really early translation, but that's

[00:24:04] really cool.

[00:24:04] And then one of my favorite series ever that Nintendo just refuses to acknowledge custom

[00:24:10] robo.

[00:24:10] So the first two games were only in Japan on the N64 motherfuckers.

[00:24:16] And I remember reading all about those and the, uh, the Ray Oh one or Ray Mark one trophy

[00:24:22] in smash bros melee.

[00:24:24] I kept thinking, dude, this is sweet.

[00:24:26] Like how do I play these games?

[00:24:27] I love Mac games.

[00:24:28] Nope.

[00:24:29] Japan only go F yourself.

[00:24:31] And then we finally get the one on game cube and it's like on F yourself.

[00:24:35] And then I played that and loved it, but, uh, yeah.

[00:24:38] Thank you.

[00:24:39] Fan translators.

[00:24:39] I love you so much.

[00:24:41] Yeah.

[00:24:42] I feel like you've seen that encourage, you know, some official releases of Japan only

[00:24:49] games we've seen happen this generation, but hopefully trials of mana was the, was

[00:24:55] the biggest one for me.

[00:24:56] Like I never in a million years would have thought that they would have re-released that

[00:25:00] finally as an official translation of the super Nintendo one.

[00:25:03] But then out of nowhere, it was like, we're going to remake this game.

[00:25:06] And it was like, what the fuck?

[00:25:09] Why?

[00:25:09] I mean, I'm glad, but like, where did this come from?

[00:25:12] Still no mother.

[00:25:13] So, though.

[00:25:16] Yeah.

[00:25:16] There's still some dude on a crazy decisions going on out there.

[00:25:20] Yeah.

[00:25:20] At this point, it's just for the meme, I suppose.

[00:25:22] But yeah, the fan translation is just as good as we'll ever get.

[00:25:35] Pretty goddamn good.

[00:25:36] Pretty goddamn good.

[00:25:37] Speaking of goddamn good, should we talk about Breath of the Goddang Wild?

[00:25:42] Legend of Zelda.

[00:25:43] Let's do it.

[00:25:44] I'm doing the King of the Pillboys.

[00:25:46] ZELDER.

[00:25:49] ZELDOR.

[00:25:50] So, Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

[00:25:52] It's ironic as fuck.

[00:25:55] It was one of the, I think it was either the last or one of the last games for the Wii U,

[00:25:59] but it was one of the first games for the Switch.

[00:26:02] So, Q Alanis Morissette.

[00:26:04] Isn't it ironic?

[00:26:07] Yeah.

[00:26:07] Alongside Bomberman.

[00:26:09] Oh yeah.

[00:26:10] Bomberman.

[00:26:11] Super Bomberman R.

[00:26:13] Not a great game.

[00:26:15] Not a great game.

[00:26:16] Also not a great game.

[00:26:20] Snipperclips.

[00:26:21] Snipperclips was good.

[00:26:22] Oh, that's good.

[00:26:23] Yeah.

[00:26:23] Snipperclips was good.

[00:26:24] There's another one.

[00:26:26] Shovel Knight, which is excellent.

[00:26:28] Was that launch?

[00:26:30] Yeah, that was launch.

[00:26:31] The Treasure Trove.

[00:26:33] Oh yeah, yeah.

[00:26:34] I was gonna say, I feel like I played that way before then.

[00:26:37] Yeah.

[00:26:37] I don't remember the rest, but yeah.

[00:26:39] Released, was it March 2017?

[00:26:42] Switch and Wii U.

[00:26:43] Both pretty cool ways to play them.

[00:26:46] Whichever one you have, they're both good ways.

[00:26:47] But yeah, what's everybody's first experience with the game?

[00:26:53] Like when you first got it or like, what are your first like...

[00:26:57] You know what I mean?

[00:26:58] I don't...

[00:27:00] I don't...

[00:27:01] No, I know what you mean.

[00:27:02] Yeah.

[00:27:02] What do you mean?

[00:27:02] I don't.

[00:27:03] Can you elaborate?

[00:27:04] What's your...

[00:27:06] What's your first memory with the game?

[00:27:09] With the video game Breath of the Wild.

[00:27:13] You had a funny...

[00:27:15] Didn't you?

[00:27:16] You didn't like...

[00:27:17] You got it.

[00:27:18] It is a little...

[00:27:19] Yeah, I got...

[00:27:20] So I got the game for my birthday, which is in April.

[00:27:25] So I got it a month after it came out.

[00:27:28] But I didn't have a Switch yet.

[00:27:31] And I didn't get a Switch until the summer.

[00:27:36] Holy shit.

[00:27:37] I was like hunting around for one.

[00:27:39] And then I finally just ended up ordering one on Amazon.

[00:27:42] So I had the game for like three months.

[00:27:45] Just sitting there.

[00:27:47] Teasing me.

[00:27:49] That's painful.

[00:27:51] Yeah.

[00:27:53] And then I finally got the Switch.

[00:27:56] It's funny.

[00:27:56] I bought a Wii U because I knew Breath of the Wild was coming out on the Wii U.

[00:28:03] And I was like, oh yeah, I have to get this for Zelda.

[00:28:07] And then did not end up playing it on the Wii U.

[00:28:10] That's rude.

[00:28:11] So you had the Wii U version this whole time.

[00:28:15] You could have played that.

[00:28:16] Well, I didn't have the...

[00:28:17] I didn't have the Wii U version of the game.

[00:28:21] I just had the Wii U.

[00:28:24] It was a real like...

[00:28:26] That's like a curse situation almost.

[00:28:29] But yeah, when I got it, I think it was like June or July.

[00:28:33] And it's super hot outside, but I'm inside in the basement.

[00:28:39] It's cold.

[00:28:40] And I'm just...

[00:28:41] I'm playing on a big screen on the house I lived at at the time.

[00:28:47] We had like a big mattress on the floor.

[00:28:50] So I sat on the mattress.

[00:28:54] Or my friend came over who hadn't played yet.

[00:28:57] And he watched me play Breath of the Wild for a little while.

[00:29:03] Yeah, it was...

[00:29:05] I was like instantly enamored with the game.

[00:29:09] I was so excited just to...

[00:29:12] They just let me go.

[00:29:15] Run around place to place.

[00:29:17] See that mountain?

[00:29:18] You can go there.

[00:29:19] Yeah.

[00:29:21] Nice.

[00:29:22] What about you, Gooey?

[00:29:23] So...

[00:29:24] We're actually right...

[00:29:25] Leading up to when it came out.

[00:29:27] I had a Wii U and I was broke.

[00:29:32] It was a hard time at that time.

[00:29:35] And like, I don't know when this happened exactly, but my house that I lived at with some people got broken into.

[00:29:46] And they stole my Wii U.

[00:29:49] God damn what?

[00:29:50] Yeah.

[00:29:52] And so I was like, oh no.

[00:29:55] How am I going to play Zelda?

[00:29:57] But it ended up working out because I've always been since actually, I think 2009, maybe 2010, I've in some way, shape or form been a contributor to the Legend of Zelda fan site, ZeldaDungeon.net.

[00:30:17] And so right around that time, actually, my buddy who runs the site, Moss, he was like...

[00:30:25] They had at that point had like their YouTube channel had been kind of like inactive for a while.

[00:30:32] And so he was like, oh, I kind of want to like post, you know, videos on there again.

[00:30:36] So why don't you, why don't you come do that with me?

[00:30:39] And, you know, we'll, we'll talk about Breath of the Wild when it comes out and stuff like that.

[00:30:45] And so it was kind of fortunate for me because I eventually got my own Switch.

[00:30:49] But at that time, there was, it was just, there was no, not a, not a shot that I would get one.

[00:30:55] So I would come over and, or actually for, for a time was staying with them.

[00:31:01] And I, you know, I, it was a great time because we went together the launch night to get the Switch and to get the game.

[00:31:09] And hell yeah, that was like one of the last times I ever did that for a game or for a console.

[00:31:16] But yeah, it was just such a stand outside.

[00:31:19] Yeah, it wasn't, it wasn't too bad.

[00:31:21] It was because it was March.

[00:31:22] So it was still a little cold.

[00:31:24] I think I couldn't tell you the exact weather that day, but yeah, I just have fond memories because it was like, you know, I still, we both now actually still contribute, you know, like make YouTube videos.

[00:31:39] And stuff for, for ZD that kind of got me started with doing that.

[00:31:44] Like most of my memories of the game are tied to playing it and then discussing the different aspects of it with Moss and stuff.

[00:31:53] And, you know, they were, I didn't know what I was doing and I still honestly really don't.

[00:31:57] I'm not, I don't consider myself a YouTuber, but I post on like three different YouTube channels.

[00:32:02] But those especially were just like, we had, we were talking into the backs of microphones and stuff like that.

[00:32:09] Like it was, it was pretty, a pretty shoddy production that I was doing.

[00:32:15] I'd like to think I got a little better, but not that much better.

[00:32:18] Kind of similar to my, my musicianship.

[00:32:23] I, I kind of just like, let's get to the fun part.

[00:32:27] But yeah, that's all I, I know I didn't talk about the game at all, but I, that, I, that was like, what made it for me.

[00:32:34] Like, you know, it was a new type of Zelda game too.

[00:32:36] So like, we were both like, just, we didn't even know what, what to do or what to think.

[00:32:42] Um, it was a great time.

[00:32:44] Nice, nice.

[00:32:45] Jerry, how about you?

[00:32:48] So speaking of cold, uh, I used to live on the East coast of Canada and it is very fucking cold there.

[00:32:56] Even, even in like May, sometimes it'll be like, there's still snow on the ground.

[00:33:02] That's cool.

[00:33:02] Um, but my cohost on super ghost, uh, Beth, she was in the line to get the switch and I didn't realize it.

[00:33:15] We had only ever met each other once before then.

[00:33:18] And like, she'd seen me and she was like, Hey, you're that guy.

[00:33:23] And I was like, yes, I do remember you too.

[00:33:27] And then we just kind of stood in line.

[00:33:29] But the crazy thing was, it was really fucking cold and I did not preorder the switch.

[00:33:36] It was like four or five days before it came out.

[00:33:40] I was like, Oh shit.

[00:33:43] Now I read cause for a long time I was like, Hmm, I don't know if I need this at launch.

[00:33:47] Then I was like, I seen breath of the wild on Wii U at a friend's house.

[00:33:53] And I was like, Nope, not playing it like this.

[00:33:56] Cause like it, it was very, it was a lot more framey on, on the Wii U.

[00:34:04] Like slower frame rate.

[00:34:05] You mean, or yeah, like it was a bit more framey and like the resolution wasn't like,

[00:34:10] it just, it ran a little better on, on the, on the switch.

[00:34:14] So I was like, ah shit.

[00:34:17] Maybe I do need this thing.

[00:34:18] So like decided on a whim, I just went down and I sort of knew the manager of the GameStop.

[00:34:27] And she was outside.

[00:34:28] I got there and there was a fucking lineup just like careening down the street.

[00:34:34] And I was like, I've never get one of these things, but I got to the back of the line and she seen me.

[00:34:39] She was outside having a smoke because they weren't actually open yet.

[00:34:43] And she was like, Hey, did you, did you pre-order one after?

[00:34:47] And I was like, I didn't.

[00:34:49] How many do you have like for spares?

[00:34:50] She was like, Oh, like three.

[00:34:53] And I was like, Oh, should I maybe just like leave?

[00:34:59] And she was like, no.

[00:35:00] And she handed me like a sticker thing.

[00:35:02] And she was like, there's like five or six cancellations on pre-orders, but we left them open.

[00:35:09] She was like, here you go.

[00:35:10] Nice.

[00:35:11] You now have a pre-order.

[00:35:13] And I was like, this is fucking awesome.

[00:35:15] Thank you, Cheryl.

[00:35:17] Her name's also Cheryl.

[00:35:18] I remember getting in my vehicle and just looking at that and do you're right.

[00:35:25] It's I think that might've been the last time ever that I actually stood outside and waited for something like that.

[00:35:33] And then like, just got back in my car and was like, Oh my God, it's gonna be so amazing.

[00:35:38] So then I drive home.

[00:35:40] It's like a probably like a 30 minute drive to get back to my house.

[00:35:43] I go back to my house and I distinctly remember it.

[00:35:49] There was like a ton of snow on the ground and I was like, well, fuck if I don't shovel this, my wife is gonna kill me.

[00:35:55] So like, I'm gonna be responsible.

[00:35:57] So I like did the shittiest most half ass job shoveling the driveway and was like, there you go.

[00:36:05] I did my part today and I went inside and I just had Zelda.

[00:36:10] Yeah.

[00:36:11] Played Zelda for like fucking 14 hours straight.

[00:36:16] Like my wife gets home from where she was like, did you get the switch after?

[00:36:21] I was like, yeah. And you know what?

[00:36:23] See that driveway out there?

[00:36:26] I was responsible today and she was like, it's covered in snow again.

[00:36:31] And I was like, yeah, but like I did it earlier.

[00:36:34] It would have been like really covered in snow if I hadn't gone out.

[00:36:39] You should take a picture of it after you shoveled it.

[00:36:42] Like see this.

[00:36:42] That's what it was 14 hours ago.

[00:36:45] Just show her a picture of a beach or something.

[00:36:47] A beehive or something.

[00:36:49] This is what it looked like this morning.

[00:36:51] But yeah, that was like my initial and just like waking up in that game and just being like, all right, go.

[00:36:59] Go ahead.

[00:37:01] Just, you know, and then you see like the quest kill Ganon and you're like, what?

[00:37:08] Like what?

[00:37:09] What is going on here?

[00:37:11] Because like I it was around that time that I started like when I was getting hyped for stuff, I would tend to not look at trailers and like gameplay footage and stuff because I wanted there to be that like sense of wonder where like I didn't know any of the stuff.

[00:37:28] Like it's almost like I would see a trailer and be like, I know enough now that I want to play this game.

[00:37:33] And if it's bad, so be it.

[00:37:35] But yeah, just getting off the like off your leash and just running around wild in this game was crazy.

[00:37:46] But fuck stamina.

[00:37:48] Yeah, Jesus Christ.

[00:37:50] God damn it.

[00:37:51] God damn.

[00:37:52] I remember just being like, oh, yeah, I can climb anything.

[00:37:55] And I was like, what the fuck is what I'm slipping off or fuck.

[00:37:58] Yeah, stamina in this.

[00:38:00] We're into that more in a little bit.

[00:38:01] We'll get to that.

[00:38:02] I'll make sure to jot down a good bunch of that.

[00:38:04] But my first memory with it, coincidentally, it's it's the last pre or the last midnight launch I ever went to as well was for the switch.

[00:38:13] And I remember thinking dumb lizard brain Aaron back in that day was like, I don't want fucking Zelda.

[00:38:20] I'm here for Bomberman.

[00:38:21] I pre ordered Bomberman.

[00:38:23] Oh, are you serious?

[00:38:25] Yeah, dude.

[00:38:25] I was like, I want Bomberman.

[00:38:27] That's the one.

[00:38:27] That's the game that I want.

[00:38:28] That's so awesome launch day.

[00:38:30] Because when we when we were waiting, we talked to someone like you getting Zelda.

[00:38:37] He's like, no Bomberman.

[00:38:39] And we were like, OK, what a what a frickin nerd.

[00:38:45] We're here buying.

[00:38:46] I don't know.

[00:38:49] That's all good, man.

[00:38:51] Yeah.

[00:38:51] So so I went there.

[00:38:53] I got to my place in line.

[00:38:55] I had this the actual console pre ordered.

[00:38:58] And then they were like, they were like, oh, you're here for Zelda, right?

[00:39:01] And I was like, no Bomberman.

[00:39:04] Like Bomberman.

[00:39:05] They're like, sorry, dude, we're all out.

[00:39:07] And I was like, the entire store laughed in your face.

[00:39:13] We got another asshole here for Bomberman.

[00:39:15] The fucking pocket sand to me.

[00:39:17] Pocket sand.

[00:39:18] Right in my face.

[00:39:20] No, but I ended up just buying Zelda.

[00:39:22] And I was like, I guess.

[00:39:26] It's like that's that Bob's Burgers meme where it's like, fine, but I'm going to complain

[00:39:30] the whole time.

[00:39:32] So, yeah, it was I think I got home about like midnight or something because I was with

[00:39:38] a bunch of buddies.

[00:39:39] We also went to fucking McDonald's because, yeah, I was late at night.

[00:39:42] We went to get some food with the boys.

[00:39:45] Went back to my apartment again at like midnight.

[00:39:48] And I started up Zelda and breath of the wild or whatever.

[00:39:52] And yeah, it was pretty fucking sweet.

[00:39:54] I played until like two in the morning.

[00:39:56] And then I was like, fuck, I have to get up in like five hours.

[00:39:59] Went to sleep.

[00:40:01] Couldn't could not stop thinking about it for the rest of the day.

[00:40:03] And it was pretty great.

[00:40:05] I think that's that was the thing about that game.

[00:40:07] It just like got in your head in a good way.

[00:40:11] Like I would be at work and I'd be like, OK, when I get home, I got to go check out that

[00:40:16] cave.

[00:40:16] I know I didn't check out that cave when I walked past it.

[00:40:19] And I did see that thing that was over there.

[00:40:21] And I am trying to get these ingredients to make this shit from for a meal.

[00:40:26] And like I was just always thinking about the damn game.

[00:40:30] Like I was always on my mind.

[00:40:31] It was crazy.

[00:40:32] And it's it's one of those huge open.

[00:40:35] And so like if you have a really close ended game, like maybe past Zelda's or like fucking

[00:40:42] Mario three or something, everybody's going to talk about the same shit like dude, the

[00:40:46] water level, right?

[00:40:47] Water level four, three or like, you know, water dungeon, whatever.

[00:40:51] But like in games like breath of the wild or like Skyrim, people just can't you can't

[00:40:56] stop talking about it because everybody's experiencing different shit all the time.

[00:40:59] Like I, I don't remember at all what I did immediately after leaving like the first area

[00:41:05] you wake up in.

[00:41:06] But I know I remember climbing up mountains and seeing like the little dragon dudes flying

[00:41:10] in the air.

[00:41:11] That was sweet.

[00:41:12] And then fighting like the centaur dudes.

[00:41:14] That was always sweet.

[00:41:15] I'd brag to my friends about that.

[00:41:16] And they'd be like, dude, I've already killed like four of those.

[00:41:18] What are you talking about?

[00:41:21] Those guys were real son of a bitches.

[00:41:23] They were first lionels.

[00:41:26] Well, lionels, lionels, lionel Richie's.

[00:41:32] That that was a big thing, too, because those are those are classic Legend of Zelda enemies

[00:41:39] that have been in since the first game, but they had never been really in a in a 3D Zelda

[00:41:45] game.

[00:41:46] And so it like when they were showing that, like the first time I encountered one that

[00:41:52] was like in a quest where you encounter it.

[00:41:54] And it was like it was like, oh, shit.

[00:41:59] So serious right now.

[00:42:00] And yeah, that was that's one of the most memorable moments.

[00:42:03] So that game was like encountering a lionel for the first time.

[00:42:07] My first encounter with one of those guys was the lightning one that's like in that coliseum

[00:42:12] because I remember seeing like the coliseum being like, oh, what's this place?

[00:42:15] This looks cool.

[00:42:16] And I like wander in there and there's just one standing in the middle just like waiting.

[00:42:21] And I was like, all right, I guess what is this?

[00:42:26] And I just walk up and then I just see like thunder and lightning just raining down.

[00:42:32] That's actually when I realized that your weapons conduct lightning.

[00:42:36] Yeah, and I like stripped down to my underwear and I was like, jokes on you.

[00:42:41] And then he fucking nukes you.

[00:42:46] Sure.

[00:42:46] Let's let's start with the story.

[00:42:49] Save Zelda kill Ganon pretty much like it's it's it's a wild story because like there is

[00:42:55] a lot to it.

[00:42:56] There's a lot of depth to it.

[00:42:57] But the game again, it's one of those games.

[00:43:00] It just doesn't tell you fucking anything right from the start.

[00:43:02] You basically just wake up.

[00:43:04] It's like, fuck Ganon up and then just go on your merry way about it.

[00:43:09] But yeah, pretty much the story is just link.

[00:43:12] He's been asleep for a really long time.

[00:43:14] You wake up.

[00:43:15] You got to go kill Ganon.

[00:43:17] And you're just in like a destroyed destroyed Hyrule.

[00:43:21] Pretty much.

[00:43:22] It's been taken over by the what the fuck were the machines called again?

[00:43:25] The ancients?

[00:43:27] Guardians.

[00:43:28] The T-1000s.

[00:43:29] Yeah, the T-1000s.

[00:43:33] You play us John Connor.

[00:43:35] Give us that crossover, please.

[00:43:39] Yeah, you go around the world totally open world.

[00:43:42] You you find all the different champions and learn cool abilities and then you take on the

[00:43:48] divine beasts, which were really fucking cool.

[00:43:50] We'll get to those in a minute.

[00:43:51] The divine beasts are really fucking sweet.

[00:43:53] Tommy, if you're listening, I know you hated them.

[00:43:55] Fuck you.

[00:43:55] They're fun.

[00:43:57] Tommy, I'm with you, buddy.

[00:43:58] I'm with you.

[00:43:59] Oh, God.

[00:43:59] I don't like them either.

[00:44:00] God damn it.

[00:44:01] I'm dumb.

[00:44:03] Stupid.

[00:44:04] Then you go to the castle.

[00:44:05] You fight Ganon and you win.

[00:44:08] That's the story.

[00:44:11] Do you like this story?

[00:44:13] Anything else anybody wants to add to the story that I may have glossed over or something?

[00:44:19] Uh, I guess just the there's the memories that you can find.

[00:44:25] Yeah.

[00:44:26] Yeah.

[00:44:26] Most of the story like the like, or like a lot of story.

[00:44:31] A lot of the backstory is kind of like where there's like narrative stuff in the game.

[00:44:37] Uh, that's kind of an interesting way of telling.

[00:44:42] Mm hmm.

[00:44:42] It's not the whole story.

[00:44:43] That's, that's what I think people who weren't really fond of that.

[00:44:48] Like they really focused on that as like the story of the game.

[00:44:52] Mm hmm.

[00:44:53] It's like, that's not all there is to it.

[00:44:55] I mean, I kind of like the idea of like, you go, you're going to all these places and

[00:45:00] people have all these different impressions of you or whatever.

[00:45:04] Yep.

[00:45:05] But you have no memory of it and you find out like all your friends are dead basically.

[00:45:13] Yeah.

[00:45:14] That's one thing the game does really, really well is puts you really in the role of link

[00:45:20] because yeah, you just like him, you don't have any fucking clue what's going on.

[00:45:23] I think it's yeah, it's a really, really cool thing they did with the, with the game.

[00:45:28] It was also very refreshing, like after a lot of the kind of like big 3d games have

[00:45:34] kind of developed these really lengthy cut scene based stories to go back.

[00:45:41] Like one of my favorite game is the original Legend of Zelda and it's pretty much what you

[00:45:46] describe where it's like, it tells you a paragraph like, hey, go fuck up Ganon.

[00:45:51] And then just they spit you out and they're like, here you go, go, go do it.

[00:45:56] And so there was something so like breath of the wild is like one of the most like zero

[00:46:04] to fun, you know, length of game because you start and it's almost immediately.

[00:46:10] Yeah.

[00:46:10] Oh, you're having a blast, you know?

[00:46:13] That's true.

[00:46:13] I think about it like that.

[00:46:14] Yeah, that's good.

[00:46:16] Maybe that's why I liked this, this game.

[00:46:18] So like, I'm not the biggest Zelda fan on the planet.

[00:46:21] Like I liked Wind Waker.

[00:46:23] I love Legend or no, um, uh, link to the past.

[00:46:29] And, uh, I, I played like a little bit of Twilight Princess, but yeah, breath of the wild and tears

[00:46:33] of the kingdom.

[00:46:34] I really liked those.

[00:46:35] Cause yeah, they just, they're just like, Hey, ah, and let you go right the fuck out there

[00:46:39] and do whatever you want.

[00:46:40] Bake as many apples as your heart desires.

[00:46:42] It's great.

[00:46:45] Yeah.

[00:46:46] I love the story actually of the game.

[00:46:48] Not my favorite in the series, but yeah, it's, it's pretty cool.

[00:46:51] I feel like they were also talking a lot about how, cause you, you even mentioned how it's

[00:46:59] similar to the first Zelda game, but I remember them talking about being like, we're bringing

[00:47:04] that first games kind of mechanic, like just the mechanics of that, how the game is introduced

[00:47:11] to you as a player, bringing that back as a, as like a, here's your main objective.

[00:47:19] Go do it.

[00:47:20] Well, however way you see fit.

[00:47:22] Cause like, I think in the first game you can do any dungeon in any order or there's

[00:47:29] any, I think most of them can be done in any order.

[00:47:32] Yeah.

[00:47:33] It's, it's a possible to do with some, like by like leaving with the item or whatever,

[00:47:37] but it does like from when they start you, uh, in the game, like you can find, you could

[00:47:43] just as easily find dungeons one through three, like, and just sitting there and like no other

[00:47:51] like item required to enter.

[00:47:53] And then, um, yeah, as it goes on, there's some that are hidden from like, with just like

[00:47:59] puzzle or something like that.

[00:48:01] Some of you need items, but yeah, you can, uh, there's a ton of different orders.

[00:48:05] So you can do the dungeons and it's very open.

[00:48:08] Yeah.

[00:48:08] Hell yeah.

[00:48:09] It's great.

[00:48:10] That's cool.

[00:48:11] Like a return to form for the series.

[00:48:12] Pretty much.

[00:48:14] Mm-hmm.

[00:48:14] I also think that we wouldn't have Ellen ring if it wasn't for this game.

[00:48:20] I feel like this game kind of allowed people to see an open world game in a different lens.

[00:48:27] Like it was, it was kind of eyeopening to be like, oh, you can have cause like, look,

[00:48:35] I'll be the first to admit I am not into Assassin's Creed games.

[00:48:39] Matter of fact, I don't really, I don't really like any of Ubisoft's formula for open world

[00:48:45] games.

[00:48:46] Uh, I also have majorly fallen off Bethesda's formula for open world games, even though Skyrim

[00:48:52] is a fucking goaded game, but like, I just feel like even like stuff like fallout four,

[00:49:00] like, I just, I don't know.

[00:49:01] I'm not interested in that type of open world anymore.

[00:49:04] And the only ones that have like really held my attention are stuff like breath of the wild,

[00:49:11] tears of the kingdom, Elden ring, because it's like they,

[00:49:16] wanted to elevate an open world style game in a way that wasn't done before.

[00:49:24] And I've just, I find that fascinating because it's like, they just set you out and they're

[00:49:29] like, yeah, you can do whatever you want.

[00:49:31] Whereas like in like the Assassin's Creed games and all those other ones, it's like,

[00:49:35] they're, they're trying to push a narrative and stuff.

[00:49:36] And like, there's all this like back and forth and it's kind of like, okay, we really want

[00:49:40] you to go do this thing now.

[00:49:42] I know that there's all these cool flashy things around you right now, but we really want you

[00:49:46] to go do this thing.

[00:49:47] It's like, okay, you went and you did the other thing, but that's all right.

[00:49:50] Well, we really want you to get back to doing this.

[00:49:52] But like with those other games, it's like, no, I'm going to do this on my own accord.

[00:49:58] Like I'm, you know, I'm setting my own path.

[00:50:00] And I, I really feel like breath of the wild was among some of the first ones to do that

[00:50:08] or do it the way that people wanted it to be done.

[00:50:12] I agree.

[00:50:13] Yeah.

[00:50:13] And I feel like there to me, like the story was cool, but it wasn't what made the game

[00:50:22] so memorable for me.

[00:50:23] It's the little tiny things that add up to be so memorable.

[00:50:28] Just like, I don't know the first time that you throw a fucking barrel down a hill and it

[00:50:34] rolls all the way down the hill, takes out one like a cobbling and then just blows up a

[00:50:41] whole encampment of them.

[00:50:42] And you're just standing and watching this on a hill.

[00:50:44] So I've been like, murder is cool.

[00:50:49] Like it's shit like that, that like you don't really get from a lot of the typical formulaic

[00:50:57] open world games.

[00:50:59] That's yeah, that's true, man.

[00:51:01] Cause yeah, a lot of those, one of those big open world games, like yeah, Grand Theft Auto,

[00:51:06] Assassin's Creed, Red Dead Redemption.

[00:51:08] They're all about like the big things, like, like doing big, big missions, like train heist,

[00:51:16] crashing cars into shit, shootouts with cops, whatever Assassin's Creed does.

[00:51:21] I don't know.

[00:51:22] Taken out dudes.

[00:51:23] But yeah, Breath of the Wild is more so about the little moments that you can compact in there.

[00:51:29] Well, I guess you do do like big moments with the sacred beasts or whatever.

[00:51:34] Yeah, I think that there's only four though.

[00:51:36] So it's not like, yeah, that and like the master sword stuff, like getting the master sword for the

[00:51:41] first time too.

[00:51:42] I feel like it was pretty memorable.

[00:51:44] Oh, yeah.

[00:51:44] Just seeing it and like that whole thing of like pulling that out of the stone and stuff

[00:51:49] like that was, that was fairly epic.

[00:51:51] And then just eventually making like just gathering the courage to get anywhere near Hyrule Castle

[00:51:58] to even attempt to go fight Ganon.

[00:52:02] Like I had attempted to go up to that place a few times and I was just like, no, fuck this.

[00:52:08] This is crazy.

[00:52:09] But by the end of the game at like 98 hours or something, I was like, I think I should probably

[00:52:14] go kill Ganon now.

[00:52:16] And I went in and just fucking clapped his clammy ass cheeks up.

[00:52:22] They're just munching on baked apples the entire fucking time.

[00:52:25] Getting ripped off baked apples.

[00:52:28] Ripped shit on him.

[00:52:30] Speaking of all the little moments, let's, let's get into all that man.

[00:52:33] Cause there's, that's pretty much what makes the game is just all the little cool things

[00:52:39] that the game does differently from other Zelda games.

[00:52:41] Like there's just, there's so much.

[00:52:43] The first time I had jotted down is this wild physics engine that the game had this like

[00:52:50] pretty realistic physics engine.

[00:52:53] Like Jerry mentioned earlier, you throw barrels, it'll roll down hills.

[00:52:56] Of course you, when you shoot an arrow, instead of just going, you know, straight to the enemy,

[00:53:01] it has like a little arc, depending on how far away you are, stuff like that.

[00:53:05] Throwing the little, the little bomb things that you make with the Sheikah tablet or whatever.

[00:53:10] Oh yeah. Yeah.

[00:53:11] Shit like that.

[00:53:12] And that kind of leads into the, what the fuck they call the shrines, the little puzzle dungeons.

[00:53:16] Like they use the physics so fucking well in those.

[00:53:20] And each shrine feels like such a, such an accomplishment with all the cool puzzles they have in there.

[00:53:26] Like there's one with a, no, maybe I'm thinking of tears of the kingdom.

[00:53:32] There's only like a mind card and you have to, yeah, that's tears of the kingdom.

[00:53:35] Nevermind. We'll cut that part.

[00:53:39] Yeah.

[00:53:40] Those, those were cool.

[00:53:42] And like you, you saw it, I, you see it taken to another level, I think in tears of the kingdom, but like,

[00:53:48] that's where with some of those shrines you started to have like multiple solutions for puzzles and stuff that like,

[00:53:58] yeah.

[00:53:59] Yeah. That like really creative again, that use the physics and stuff like that.

[00:54:04] Hmm.

[00:54:06] I liked a lot of the shrines where you, you're actually doing stuff outside of the shrine to solve it.

[00:54:14] That was pretty. Yeah.

[00:54:16] Uh, one of the ones that sticks out for me is the, the like one in the, the dark ruins.

[00:54:22] Uh, yeah.

[00:54:24] I don't know.

[00:54:25] It's like the really dark area that you gotta, you gotta take a torch and, uh, walk around to find your way through.

[00:54:32] And there's like a high knocks at the end.

[00:54:34] And you can, uh, well, you don't have to battle him, but, but he's got like an orb, I think on his neck around his neck that allows you access to the shrine.

[00:54:45] Mm hmm.

[00:54:46] I, I love when, when Zelda games do like overworld puzzly stuff.

[00:54:52] So I liked when the shrines kind of did that.

[00:54:55] Yeah.

[00:54:56] There was like the whole, um, island, the whole, uh, even tide island where you'd go.

[00:55:01] And I, I don't even, people don't think of that often when they bring it up.

[00:55:05] They're just like, that's a cool side quest, but it is a shrine quest, but it's like this, it takes place on the whole island and you have to run around without your stuff.

[00:55:15] Uh, that was,

[00:55:15] How did you guys get to that island the first time?

[00:55:18] I don't know.

[00:55:19] Cause I, I think I kind of knew about it by the time I went there, like that area I didn't go to initially.

[00:55:26] And I'm trying to remember how I actually got to it.

[00:55:28] I might've just.

[00:55:29] I remember like crying on us in the distance and just being like, can I get to that?

[00:55:35] Like, do I get a boat or something?

[00:55:36] Like, how do I, I remember gliding and being like, if I had a little bit more stamina and I just went on a quest to just get all kinds of stamina just so I could hang glide my way over there.

[00:55:48] Yeah.

[00:55:49] And it was just like, little by little.

[00:55:51] Could you stand on like a piece of wood and like grab a leaf and just kind of whoosh your way over there?

[00:55:56] No, I'm not a smart man.

[00:55:59] I fucking, it was brute force and ignorance, dude.

[00:56:03] It was just like, I just, just jumped off a cliff and hang glided.

[00:56:07] Like the furthest point of a cliff that was closest to the thing.

[00:56:10] And I was like, all right, here we go.

[00:56:12] And I just kept doing that until I had enough stamina to get over there.

[00:56:15] I did that a lot too.

[00:56:17] And it's like, give us your clothes.

[00:56:21] Again, the Terminator didn't give me your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.

[00:56:28] We do things a little differently on Eventide Island.

[00:56:30] Give me your tunic, your sword and your ocarina.

[00:56:36] Go ahead, Gouy, what were you saying?

[00:56:38] I just said, we do things a little differently here on Eventide Island.

[00:56:42] Oh, shit.

[00:56:44] Oh, yeah.

[00:56:45] Take your clothes off right now.

[00:56:48] That's how I should do things at my house.

[00:56:50] Be like, we do things differently at my house.

[00:56:52] Okay.

[00:56:53] So take your shoes off.

[00:56:54] Then your shirt.

[00:56:57] Pop that top off real quick.

[00:56:59] What the fuck was I just going to say about?

[00:57:01] Oh, I do the same shit too about the gliding everywhere.

[00:57:05] Like I'll teleport to one of those towers.

[00:57:08] I forget what the fuck they're called.

[00:57:09] Those gigantic towers.

[00:57:11] I would just teleport to one of those and kind of like plot a course on my map.

[00:57:15] Be like, okay, I could probably get to like from here to here.

[00:57:20] And then like, I would just glide, land on like a mountain or a hill and then jump and glide and then try to get like as close as I can to certain places.

[00:57:26] But of course, the game doesn't allow that a lot of the time.

[00:57:30] Like a lot of times you just have to like climb and shit like that.

[00:57:32] That's leads us right into yeah, climbing.

[00:57:34] You can climb fucking anything.

[00:57:36] Damn near anything except for like certain certain metals or types of stone.

[00:57:42] I think you can't climb but yeah, you just walk up to it.

[00:57:45] You jump at it and it was fucking hell.

[00:57:48] God forbid if it starts to fucking rain.

[00:57:51] That's that's the worst.

[00:57:53] The actual like all right, I'm almost at the top of this mountain.

[00:57:56] I'm like setting something in my sights.

[00:57:59] I'm almost there and then it starts raining.

[00:58:01] You're like, well, I guess fuck me then.

[00:58:02] I guess I'll just go right back to the bottom of the mountain.

[00:58:05] Yep, I think it's tumble.

[00:58:08] Tumble links ass all the way down to the bottom.

[00:58:11] I would need ragdoll out that's the best or like so you're climbing and then it's then it's raining and then you hear like ciao and it's like fuck.

[00:58:22] I've got armor and a shield and my sword.

[00:58:25] So you try to like go into the menu or you try to get to go into the menu take everything off.

[00:58:29] They get struck by lightning and you fucking tumble all the way down a hill and then you fall into like water or like off a cliff.

[00:58:36] And I thought it was hilarious that they would make you like if you were at the top of a mountain and you die and his ass is just tumbling down that they make you watch this.

[00:58:45] It's like watch him die.

[00:58:48] Watch him to the air.

[00:58:49] You did this.

[00:58:49] You did this to him.

[00:58:53] It's great when you like when you have fairies and you get hit.

[00:58:57] Oh, yeah.

[00:58:58] And then you keep rolling down and you just keep using up the fairies.

[00:59:03] Life.

[00:59:05] A lot of good slapstick.

[00:59:07] Oh, my God.

[00:59:08] Like the last third of the fucking the mountain link is just all torn up and then he's like guess I'll just fucking hop on the slide and snowboard down the rest of it.

[00:59:18] But that's another really fucking sick thing you can do is the shield surfing.

[00:59:22] Yeah, you jump and push the fucking shield button or whatever.

[00:59:25] And yeah, you shield surf.

[00:59:26] It'll destroy your shield in like no time at all.

[00:59:30] But hey, it looks sweet as shit.

[00:59:33] Do a kickflip over some buck goblins and do a Christ air over there.

[00:59:39] Yeah, Christ alive air.

[00:59:41] Sorry.

[00:59:41] That was my number one like transportation mode.

[00:59:44] Like, especially after you started to go a bunch of places like and you're traveling like downhill or something like at first I would just I would glide everywhere.

[00:59:55] But then I started trying to shield surf like even if there was only like a slight, you know, bit of steepness to the hill.

[01:00:05] Barely, barely moving down.

[01:00:07] Dude, it's a problem, right?

[01:00:09] It's such a problem because like once they tell you you could do that, it's like, well, I'm going to do this.

[01:00:13] It's all of the time now.

[01:00:15] Yeah, you'd be like just like a village and you'd be like, oh, I just got to like go down this bank to go hand this item getting on my fucking shield and doing it.

[01:00:24] Like sliding on this pot lid, baby.

[01:00:27] He's got a little fucking pot lid.

[01:00:29] You're like, I mean, that's why I love in tears of the kingdom where they like let you attach things to your shield.

[01:00:39] Oh, my God.

[01:00:40] Yes.

[01:00:41] If you attach something like icy or whatever to it, you would like slide around so you could you could go.

[01:00:49] It was amazing.

[01:00:51] The monster trucks you could make in there.

[01:00:54] Oh, my God.

[01:00:55] Yeah.

[01:00:55] If we will have to do a tears of the kingdom episode so I can talk about all this sweet shit, the sweet slash stupid shit that I've made in that game.

[01:01:03] Oh, yeah.

[01:01:04] That was so.

[01:01:05] Yeah.

[01:01:05] I think we've pretty much touched on the exploration because, yeah, you can go anywhere.

[01:01:12] You can do anything.

[01:01:12] If you if you find a shrine, you can just hop right on in and do it.

[01:01:16] Nothing is really required.

[01:01:18] Just your brain, just your your wits and your brains.

[01:01:22] And there's kind of usually multiple ways to complete a shrine.

[01:01:29] You can go to I think the shrines are better in every aspect than the puzzle.

[01:01:37] Like that was really what I spent a lot of time doing was like the shrines because it became like a shrine.

[01:01:44] Got to got to beat it.

[01:01:45] Got to make sure they're not too long either.

[01:01:47] They're like, oh, sometimes they're three words shit.

[01:01:51] Yeah.

[01:01:51] Oh, there's there's that one where it's like it's fucking filled to the brim with spikes.

[01:01:58] Then you have to like you'll glide and then land on the platform into like position yourself just right and glide and hit like a little puff of air to like boost you up.

[01:02:07] And God forbid you go the wrong way and then you touch one single spike and fucking die.

[01:02:14] That's really cool.

[01:02:16] I remember there's some more like there's one in particular where there's like a million ways to solve it, including it's like at the end, you have to like get a box to press down a switch to open a door.

[01:02:28] So you can go through it.

[01:02:29] But you can also just stand on the switch and use stasis and it will keep the switch pressed down and you can walk through the door.

[01:02:37] So it's like all all of the stuff you could do to solve this puzzle is like could be invalidated by just using stasis on the switch.

[01:02:49] That was oh my God.

[01:02:51] I remember seeing all sorts of videos on like tick tock and shit of people doing that thing where they'll hop on something like rock or some shit.

[01:03:00] The eustasis, they'll smack it a whole bunch to hop on and then it'll just slingshot into like the next fucking country or whatever.

[01:03:09] And I don't think that works any more though.

[01:03:12] But yeah, that shit was really, really cool.

[01:03:14] I feel like that's like part of a speed run for it or something, right?

[01:03:19] Yeah.

[01:03:20] We have we have a friend who used to do some speed running and I know she'd use trees a lot.

[01:03:26] Oh, yeah.

[01:03:28] Yeah, she'd stay since the tree and just go like right flying on.

[01:03:31] Yeah, a tree.

[01:03:32] That's my favorite Metallica album.

[01:03:34] Probably the log.

[01:03:37] That's like when they're like, they go stripped down.

[01:03:43] The log.

[01:03:48] Man, what else?

[01:03:50] I think that's pretty much it to the exploration though.

[01:03:54] I guess other than there's the hot areas where you need to have armor that keeps you cool, I believe, or like cold areas where you have to wear armor that keeps you warm.

[01:04:07] Yeah, like environmental effects and stuff.

[01:04:10] That was that was pretty cool.

[01:04:12] Or you can make elixirs or stuff like that.

[01:04:14] Oh, yeah.

[01:04:16] Yeah.

[01:04:16] Cool.

[01:04:16] That brings us into the cooking and shit.

[01:04:19] Yeah.

[01:04:19] Yeah.

[01:04:20] Make little potions that'll heal you, keep you warm, keep you hot or whatever.

[01:04:26] Aaron, you love you love some cooking in a game, right?

[01:04:30] Yeah.

[01:04:30] That's awesome.

[01:04:31] Why?

[01:04:32] I just.

[01:04:33] Why so much love for cooking?

[01:04:35] I don't know, man.

[01:04:37] I mean, I guess it's just the satisfaction of just like mashing two things together and making getting something cool out of it.

[01:04:45] Like, not just in Breath of the Wild, but even like the tales of RPGs.

[01:04:50] Like after battle, you'll you can make like you just mash together ingredients and make like a fucking sandwich or salad or potato dumplings or something cool or the thing that always turns me away from cooking in games.

[01:05:05] And this is just like a me problem.

[01:05:08] Just give me the fucking like ingredients list that I need to make things like I don't.

[01:05:12] That's the fun you got.

[01:05:14] You got to keep trying different combos and I don't like that's the fun.

[01:05:18] No, because then it's like I got this fucking thing that I only have like one of and I'm like, well, what do I use it for?

[01:05:24] Like I want to make sure that I use it properly.

[01:05:27] And then I'm just I end up looking online at recipes and I'm like, oh, cool.

[01:05:31] I got enough for that.

[01:05:32] I just wish that a lot of these games would have a toggle to be like, do you want to discover recipes or do you just want to fucking that's fair?

[01:05:41] That's fair.

[01:05:42] That's fair.

[01:05:42] The thing the only thing that I didn't really like was that like the game should have had like maybe a book like if you learned it where you could go access it again.

[01:05:50] You know, like what was that recipe?

[01:05:53] That was something that didn't collect.

[01:05:55] I don't think it did.

[01:05:57] Right.

[01:05:57] I feel like they added it in tears of the tears of the kingdom.

[01:06:01] Okay.

[01:06:01] And that's that's something I I like that's not cool that.

[01:06:06] But you had to still like learn them and like experiment.

[01:06:10] So I like that encourages it.

[01:06:12] But if you're like want to remake a certain thing, you could and they even had like quests and tears that were like built around.

[01:06:20] And make it.

[01:06:21] Well, I guess they had them breath the wild too.

[01:06:22] But they also like all the stables had like a picture of a recipe.

[01:06:28] Yeah.

[01:06:29] Yeah.

[01:06:30] Yeah.

[01:06:31] You love cooking and games.

[01:06:33] Yeah.

[01:06:33] I really like.

[01:06:35] I'm sorry.

[01:06:35] It's a problem.

[01:06:37] But yeah, it's understandable, man.

[01:06:39] That's not good.

[01:06:40] I yeah, I spent a lot of time just throwing ingredients together to figure out what they'd make.

[01:06:46] I worked on the Zelda dungeon wiki, adding a lot of recipes, especially for tears of the kingdom.

[01:06:52] Hmm.

[01:06:52] Hell yeah.

[01:06:53] What do you like about that?

[01:06:54] You like the cooking and in these games?

[01:06:57] Yeah.

[01:06:58] Uh, yeah.

[01:06:59] I just like figuring out what what the different combos are.

[01:07:03] I like using the effects.

[01:07:06] Especially if there's a book that keeps track of all the shit that you've made and shows

[01:07:10] you other ones that you haven't made yet.

[01:07:12] That's, that's my ship.

[01:07:14] Does it correlate at all with cooking and like, Aaron, do you like cooking in real life?

[01:07:19] I do, but I'm terrible at it.

[01:07:21] Okay.

[01:07:22] What's your claim to fame?

[01:07:23] What's your dish?

[01:07:26] Uh, sriracha shrimp.

[01:07:27] I don't know.

[01:07:29] Yeah.

[01:07:30] Sriracha shrimp.

[01:07:31] Yeah.

[01:07:31] It's just sriracha.

[01:07:31] Did you just make that up?

[01:07:33] No, I do.

[01:07:34] I can see that being dope.

[01:07:35] I don't know.

[01:07:35] It is good.

[01:07:36] It is dope.

[01:07:37] Thank you.

[01:07:37] Do you make a creamy?

[01:07:40] McKenna would like.

[01:07:41] McKenna's.

[01:07:41] We're talking to a Marylandite over here.

[01:07:44] So seafood.

[01:07:46] Yeah.

[01:07:48] Big seafood fan here.

[01:07:50] Um, you like cooking IRL, right?

[01:07:53] Does the, does it scratch a similar?

[01:07:55] I like baking more, but yeah.

[01:07:57] Well, I guess somewhat similar.

[01:08:00] Um, you're always frying up something good though.

[01:08:05] Hey, have you seen my phone?

[01:08:07] It's just, oh yeah.

[01:08:09] Fucking frying up new iPhone.

[01:08:13] You're always frying up.

[01:08:14] So what a silly goose.

[01:08:16] She's in there frying up my phone again.

[01:08:19] Silly goose.

[01:08:20] She's frying up your fucking, uh, your Apple two terabyte SSD.

[01:08:25] That was $800.

[01:08:26] She's like, the fumes are not good for my health, but these fumes are not ideal, but God

[01:08:32] damn it.

[01:08:33] I bet that first bite is good.

[01:08:34] Should I add sriracha to this?

[01:08:38] Oh shit.

[01:08:39] Um, yeah.

[01:08:40] I don't know if it's connected to like enjoying preparing food in real life or if it's more

[01:08:47] connected to, I like crafting in games.

[01:08:50] Mm.

[01:08:51] I like throwing stuff together that makes something else I can use.

[01:08:55] Yeah.

[01:08:55] Yeah.

[01:08:56] Yeah.

[01:08:56] It's not because it's not like cooking in real life.

[01:08:59] No, you're not like, let's pick three and I wish throw them in a pot.

[01:09:03] Let's throw, um, some wheat and eggs and sugar and in a pot.

[01:09:08] And we're somehow going to get some cake out of this.

[01:09:11] I found these guts on the side of the road.

[01:09:13] I threw them in a pan with an apple and a fucking banana.

[01:09:16] And now I have some shit that makes me really strong.

[01:09:20] No, that's true.

[01:09:21] Actually.

[01:09:22] That's true.

[01:09:23] You should do that.

[01:09:24] I mean, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

[01:09:27] So like just keep the monster first.

[01:09:31] That's true.

[01:09:31] Thank you, Kelly.

[01:09:32] Sorry.

[01:09:33] Go ahead.

[01:09:33] The dubious.

[01:09:35] Yeah.

[01:09:35] The censored dubious food.

[01:09:37] Yeah.

[01:09:37] It's like, this is so bad.

[01:09:39] I love that shit.

[01:09:40] I love that shit.

[01:09:43] It's just the first time scene.

[01:09:45] I know.

[01:09:46] Like the first time that came out, I was like, why was my food so horrific that

[01:09:52] now it's Japanese porn?

[01:09:53] Like what's going on?

[01:09:55] Was, why is it like this?

[01:09:57] That's kind of a, that's kind of a serious staple in a way too.

[01:10:01] There's like a couple of things throughout, throughout the series that

[01:10:04] like you can, it's a little different, but it's like, this might be good.

[01:10:08] This might be bad.

[01:10:08] Like there's a guy in twilight princess who he's like, you can try some of my

[01:10:13] stew if you want.

[01:10:15] And you, you get it.

[01:10:17] And it's like black liquid and it's kind of like a mystery.

[01:10:20] Like sometimes you drink it and it'll give you a couple of hearts.

[01:10:23] Sometimes it'll hurt you.

[01:10:28] That's, that's, that's so funny.

[01:10:30] Never trust a man.

[01:10:32] Just coming, like coming up on a man and just be like, Hey, Hey buddy, come

[01:10:37] here.

[01:10:37] You want to try to still be like, what's it?

[01:10:40] It blips out of his pocket.

[01:10:41] He's got like a zip lock.

[01:10:42] He's got, yeah.

[01:10:43] Just a zip lock in his pocket.

[01:10:45] He's got a straw.

[01:10:47] It's also like black.

[01:10:52] It's sitting in front.

[01:10:54] Cause he, he's the guy who sells you, uh, uh, oil for your lantern.

[01:10:58] And it's sitting on his little fire, his little campfire.

[01:11:03] That's unlit.

[01:11:04] And if you light it, he's like, okay, yeah.

[01:11:06] If you want to, if you want to try the stew, go ahead.

[01:11:09] It's just like, it's just like, it's always sunny.

[01:11:12] That episode where Frank is standing with that like waiter guy.

[01:11:15] He's like, I made you a bunch of blue.

[01:11:17] He made them like, oh, you know, with like, it's all blue.

[01:11:21] And he's got blue power.

[01:11:23] I made you a blue breakfast.

[01:11:25] It's the most healthy color.

[01:11:28] Oh shit.

[01:11:29] I'm sweating like a fucking maniac.

[01:11:35] Oh fuck.

[01:11:36] We already talked about the weather.

[01:11:38] I don't know why I had that one next.

[01:11:40] I didn't, I didn't mind the rain too much.

[01:11:43] It went along with, uh, it was a good trade off for one, like total freedom, but also like the different types of like,

[01:11:52] effects and like, you know, encumbrances, I guess you could say.

[01:11:56] Like I, I was, I usually found it there.

[01:11:59] There were times more so in breath of the wild where it was like, well, now I just have to wait.

[01:12:03] I feel like in tears that I know we're not talking about that one, but you kind of were, you kind of could have like, like, like come up with things to get around it more easily.

[01:12:12] Yeah.

[01:12:13] Um, yeah.

[01:12:14] Or like they gave you.

[01:12:15] Yeah.

[01:12:15] So I don't know.

[01:12:16] I kind of like, I kind of like the push and pull of this game where it's like, you can go anywhere.

[01:12:21] Do anything, but like certain things, you know, are, are going to be a little bit more hindered or like it might require a bit more stamina or health or, uh, you got to cook an elixir to get by the, the heat or something.

[01:12:36] So it was, it was, it was okay with me.

[01:12:39] I understand the annoyance of the rain though.

[01:12:43] Yeah.

[01:12:43] Especially when you're like halfway or even like almost to the top of the mountain and then it decides to start raining.

[01:12:49] God damn it.

[01:12:49] You couldn't wait two more minutes.

[01:12:52] Yeah.

[01:12:52] It's like, what do you do to get it by that?

[01:12:54] Yeah.

[01:12:56] Yeah.

[01:12:57] Yeah.

[01:12:59] Yeah.

[01:13:07] Yeah.

[01:13:10] So you can, you can, you can, you can like jump over that, hop into like the updraft and kind of sore up in the air.

[01:13:18] Then you do a cool fucking trick shot with your bow.

[01:13:20] Like that's really, really cool.

[01:13:22] Shout out to the cool trick shots.

[01:13:23] Yeah.

[01:13:24] It'd be great if you're fighting like to like a enemy that's create, like creating the, you know, shooting flame arrows at you or something.

[01:13:31] And you all of a sudden have all these gusts out of nowhere, like you didn't plan for it, but you can just be like, okay, I'm going to, I'm going to hop in that and catch that gust.

[01:13:39] Like it create a lot of cool, just like impromptu, uh, fighting strategies.

[01:13:45] And the combat was like pretty interesting in this game in a way that like, at, even as I say, it's like a big Zelda fan.

[01:13:52] Like sometimes the combat in a lot of the games is not that compelling.

[01:13:58] So I felt like this was an interesting take on it.

[01:14:02] Yeah.

[01:14:02] What other cool, small things are there that I haven't, I haven't already brought up.

[01:14:08] I can't think of any more.

[01:14:09] See, the thing is there's a million because I remember like years after playing this game, just like still seeing YouTube videos of people being like, did you know that you could do this in this game?

[01:14:21] Like, and just that's crazy.

[01:14:24] Yeah, it was, it was, it was insane.

[01:14:26] Like it was like constantly discovering new ways to like, quote unquote, break the game.

[01:14:33] And just McKenny, you said earlier about somebody doing speed runs with just launching into space with logs and stuff.

[01:14:42] Like I, I didn't know you could do shit like that.

[01:14:45] Like I thought like as open as this game was, I thought it was very limited at the same time of like, well, you can't, yeah, you can't do that.

[01:14:55] But like, they literally made the game so that if you can think you could do something and it's within the confines of what the game will allow you to do, you can do it.

[01:15:06] And yeah, it was just like infinite discovery of like cool tricks and secrets and stuff.

[01:15:13] And like, just the way that people were coming up with ways to do like speed runs and stuff.

[01:15:18] Like I, I thought about how, you know, is it possible?

[01:15:23] Can, can you just like skip all this stuff and just go fight?

[01:15:28] Can you? Yep. Yeah, you can. Oh yeah, you certainly can.

[01:15:30] And then there was like people being like, oh, I'm going to go try to fight Ganon in just my underwear.

[01:15:36] And like people, hell yeah, doing that stuff.

[01:15:40] It was, it was nuts.

[01:15:41] Like it was so crazy how like you were just, well, for me anyways, like just constantly going on the internet and seeing some new shit.

[01:15:49] And it was the same way with tears of the kingdom.

[01:15:51] Even now I'm seeing stuff that I'm like, I, I had no idea that you could do shit like this.

[01:15:56] And you can, you can, it breeds like you can replay it and like, be like this time I'm going to play it this way.

[01:16:03] And you can really like, it's like, it's similar to how people will do that with like a, with maybe like an RPG, but it's not this time.

[01:16:12] It's not really through like the like stats or anything.

[01:16:14] It's just like you are, it's more about the way you explore the world and stuff like that.

[01:16:19] Yeah. Like, I mean, there was always a three heart challenge where people would just be like, I'm just going to go in three hearts, which is nuts.

[01:16:27] But like, I feel like they took that idea and expanded it infinitely.

[01:16:34] And they were like, Hey, you can pretty much craft this game to play it exactly how you want.

[01:16:40] Because at the end of the day, you don't even need to fully finish all of those puzzle dungeons.

[01:16:45] They just make Ganon weaker. So like, you could just be like, I'm not doing any of these.

[01:16:51] So I want to, I want to go through the game, not make him weak, but make it like a real test of strength at the end.

[01:16:59] Yeah. Yeah. It was like, actually one way we, well, we, we've switched doing it with tears, but at the, at Zelda dungeon every year, we do a big marathon live stream.

[01:17:12] We play all the, all the games, do like a charity live stream.

[01:17:16] And for a long time, the way we played breath of the wild would be, we get like teams where everyone's playing like four people or something on a team.

[01:17:26] And everyone gets a different bingo card of like objectives they have to complete before beating the game.

[01:17:34] Yeah. And, and they, they try to wait it. So like some people you'd get some, you know, small little objectives, but sometimes you get like a whole quest and stuff too.

[01:17:43] And they tried to wait it. So everyone got something different to do.

[01:17:46] And so it's really fun because people pull out, like they pull out like a, you know, a map or whatever, and they start being like, okay, we need to like get these resources and this and this and this and this.

[01:17:56] And they like strategize different routes to play through the game and stuff. And so there's no other 69 baked apples or like a hundred baked apples.

[01:18:09] Silly stuff. Yeah. It's the easiest thing to make it breath of the wild. You just toss an apple into a fire, bam, baked apple.

[01:18:15] You can do multiple at once too. You know, you get your big handful and just toss it.

[01:18:21] Or you can make, you can make like a veggie platter. Just toss in a bunch of veggies. Boom. Veggie platter.

[01:18:26] This is a super aside question. You guys, you guys fuck with a candy apple?

[01:18:31] Fuck yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[01:18:36] It's unanimous. Yeah.

[01:18:38] Jerry, I have a very, very stupid question.

[01:18:42] Um, cause I don't know a whole lot about Canada is, is fall for you folks in Canada.

[01:18:47] Do you guys also do a lot of like, uh, caramel apples and like patches and shit?

[01:18:54] Do you have fall?

[01:18:56] Do we have fall? No, we have rise.

[01:18:59] Um, so, uh, yeah, we have fall.

[01:19:07] Uh, I know you have fall, but like, do you guys, do you do it the same way we do here?

[01:19:11] Like with caramel apples and pumpkin patches and shit?

[01:19:14] People be drinking pumpkin spice shit. Yeah.

[01:19:16] Okay. And cider.

[01:19:17] There's, yeah, there's pumpkin patches and there's like, you know, like corn mazes and stuff like that.

[01:19:23] Okay. I assume so. I just wanted to double check cause, uh.

[01:19:26] But caramel apples, that's not really like a, a staple of fall here.

[01:19:31] That's more of just like a, you know, go to the carnival and pay a sketchy guy with three teeth.

[01:19:40] That's true. Yeah.

[01:19:40] It's good carnival.

[01:19:43] I'm glad, I'm glad carnies all around the world are just like the most.

[01:19:48] I'm glad carnies all around the world are universally just fucking gross.

[01:19:52] They're all just like two brain cell, the, uh, three teeth. Yeah.

[01:19:56] Oh, interesting. We came on the anti-carny podcast. We actually have a pro carnies.

[01:20:02] We appreciate you when you do your jobs. That is.

[01:20:05] Yeah. When those rides aren't fucking up and we see a tick tocks of people flying in the air off of a swing ride.

[01:20:12] Yeah. I've seen some awful shit.

[01:20:14] I have too. I've seen some real bad stuff and I laugh every time.

[01:20:19] Yikes. Oh no.

[01:20:23] Do we have any other, any other small things you want to talk about before we take an ad break?

[01:20:27] I'm like making a video for my YouTube channel where I'm like just looking at auroras and different video games.

[01:20:36] And I recorded them in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom today.

[01:20:40] Nice.

[01:20:41] So like last night I was, I just like went out and was running around in the-

[01:20:46] Look at the sky.

[01:20:47] The Hebrew region and I was like, all right, I gotta pass the times to make sure the sky is clear.

[01:20:53] Uh, yeah, I just like the, some of the, you know, they didn't have to put the aurora in the game, but it's there.

[01:20:59] It's cool.

[01:21:01] Good games to just vibe in.

[01:21:03] Yeah.

[01:21:05] That is really cool.

[01:21:07] Bless you for taking the time out of your day to do that.

[01:21:10] And the, the thing again to that and to what you were saying earlier about, uh, Jerry about Assassin's Creed is it is like just a game that you can kind of just exist in.

[01:21:21] And I think a big thing is like, they don't put a million freaking question marks all over the map.

[01:21:28] You make your own kind of markers and stuff like that.

[01:21:31] Yeah.

[01:21:31] And you've seen them still towers, but like there's not very many of them.

[01:21:36] And when you do unlock one, it's like, boom, you get a huge piece of that map from unlocking a tower.

[01:21:42] Like it feels a lot more rewarding.

[01:21:44] Like it feels a lot more rewarding.

[01:21:44] Whereas like Assassin's Creed, you got to go through the whole rigmarole of fucking and stabbing a bunch of guys, throwing them in fucking garbage cans and stuff.

[01:21:51] And like getting to the top of a thing, yelling at a fucking Eagle and jumping down into a haystack.

[01:21:59] Jumping down in the haystack and then being like, cool, I unlocked this much of the map.

[01:22:03] Like it's, uh, they would give them like unique, you know, challenges to climb some of them.

[01:22:10] Some of them were kind of fun, but it was, it was like, because they were all different.

[01:22:15] It was like, yeah, much different than like, okay, here's, let's go through the rigmarole of taking out all the guards or whatever.

[01:22:22] It was like always unique.

[01:22:23] And when you uncovered it, you still got no like icons or anything.

[01:22:27] You just got to look at the map and you got to like, be like, oh, this place looks like interesting.

[01:22:32] I'm going to go check that out.

[01:22:34] Exactly.

[01:22:35] Exactly.

[01:22:36] Yep.

[01:22:37] Yeah.

[01:22:38] Jerry, should we take an ad break?

[01:22:40] Always.

[01:22:41] Okay.

[01:22:42] We'll be right back.

[01:25:57] to offer.

[01:25:58] I guarantee that there's something in there for everybody.

[01:26:01] Once again, that's Tales from the Backlog, available wherever your podcasts are found.

[01:26:06] We remember that golden era of movies in the late 90s, early 2000s, where they had monkeys

[01:26:18] doing crazy awesome shit in movies.

[01:26:20] They had monkey spies, monkey presidents, monkeys just doing whatever.

[01:26:25] Yeah, Dunstan checks in?

[01:26:28] Yeah, where he runs a hotel or he lives in a hotel or something.

[01:26:31] Well, now it's monkey hit man.

[01:26:35] He's the, uh, what's a goofy name?

[01:26:38] Sprinkles the monkey.

[01:26:39] I don't know.

[01:26:40] I don't know.

[01:26:41] Stinky the monkey.

[01:26:42] He's, uh, by day, he's a regular average, uh, average Joe monkey in a, I don't know,

[01:26:49] the New York zoo, but by night he's, uh...

[01:26:52] He works for the New York Times.

[01:26:57] As a, as a hit man or assassin or whatever.

[01:27:00] He's a, he's a mobster hit man.

[01:27:02] I don't fucking know what the fuck they're calling it.

[01:27:04] Um, yeah.

[01:27:04] So, so by day, he's drinking the monkey, eating bananas, hanging out in the zoo, chilling,

[01:27:09] living his best life by night.

[01:27:11] He's a highly trained killing machine.

[01:27:13] He's a Russian sleeper agent disguised in a monkey's body.

[01:27:17] He's going out, he's decapitating fools.

[01:27:19] He's popping caps, all that.

[01:27:23] Jerry, what, what else?

[01:27:24] What does he do?

[01:27:27] Uh, well, I mean, it's not, it's not well documented, but I mean, you've heard of these

[01:27:35] monkeys like ripping people's faces off, right?

[01:27:38] Like when they're like, I have a pet monkey.

[01:27:40] Well, ain't nobody having pet monkeys as sprinkles.

[01:27:43] Okay.

[01:27:43] So somebody tried to have a pet monkey and it was named sprinkles.

[01:27:47] I don't know if it's a connection.

[01:27:48] It could be, it could not be.

[01:27:50] I think it might be.

[01:27:52] And I mean, that person, they got shot.

[01:27:55] They got shot multiple times, like headshots.

[01:27:58] And then their body was dumped in a river.

[01:28:00] And then sprinkles went directly back to the zoo and was like, ah, shit, I got to write

[01:28:06] that article for the New York times.

[01:28:07] I got to get back to the office.

[01:28:09] And on his way back to the office, some guys on the street were like, you know, a couple

[01:28:13] hooligans being like, Hey, is that sprinkles?

[01:28:16] Hey.

[01:28:17] And then they tried to chase him down.

[01:28:18] But then he also shot them too.

[01:28:20] And the thing is this monkey has immunity.

[01:28:22] Okay.

[01:28:23] Like he, he can't be tried in a court of law.

[01:28:26] Like there's no stopping sprinkles.

[01:28:28] The monkey.

[01:28:29] Like he, he does not abide by the normal.

[01:28:32] Like there's, there's no monkey laws.

[01:28:35] What are you going to do?

[01:28:35] You're going to try to try to fucking tranquilize him.

[01:28:37] Good luck finding him.

[01:28:39] Good luck.

[01:28:39] He's in a tree.

[01:28:40] Yeah.

[01:28:41] He's the one that hits you.

[01:28:42] Yeah.

[01:28:43] He's the one that knocks.

[01:28:45] He's the one that knocks.

[01:28:48] Wow.

[01:28:49] So it's just pure.

[01:28:50] Like he's just going on a rampage is the.

[01:28:53] Yeah, but he can't.

[01:28:54] But the thing is gooey.

[01:28:56] He can't be touched.

[01:28:57] He can't.

[01:28:58] He's untouchable by the law.

[01:29:01] He's untouchable by the, the, the people.

[01:29:03] Like there's just no stopping sprinkles.

[01:29:06] There's no stopping them.

[01:29:08] You've heard of John wick.

[01:29:09] A good monkey with a gun.

[01:29:11] Get ready for John.

[01:29:15] Monkey.

[01:29:15] I don't know.

[01:29:17] I can think of like a monkey term that rhymed with wick.

[01:29:21] John wick monkey.

[01:29:22] Sprinkle my donut.

[01:29:24] Will you?

[01:29:26] Jesus Christ.

[01:29:27] That's a sketch phrase.

[01:29:29] This could be like a subplot of like the next planet of the apes movie or something.

[01:29:35] Ooh, or like the, they, they completely redo the dark night, but replace all the monkeys

[01:29:40] or all the actors of monkeys.

[01:29:42] So like replace Christian Bale with a monkey.

[01:29:45] Replace a heat ledger with the monkey.

[01:29:47] It's a monkey with like, oops, makeup scribbled all over its face.

[01:29:50] He's got like wild green hair.

[01:29:53] And they're just like, Oh yeah.

[01:29:54] Oh, oh, oh at each other.

[01:29:56] And there's like throwing each other all over the room and shit.

[01:29:58] All the people on those boats are monkeys.

[01:30:01] Do you want to know?

[01:30:02] Do you want to know how I got these bananas?

[01:30:04] Do you want to know how I got these bananas?

[01:30:07] And then sprinkles just comes in like, just fucking lighten people up.

[01:30:13] This is going to be, yeah, it's going to be a whole series.

[01:30:15] It's going to be a, what else are we going to do?

[01:30:18] It's the, we're going to have, um, Fast and the Furious, but it's all monkeys.

[01:30:22] It's like Dominic Toretto, but he's a, he's also a monkey and it's playing like a, what's

[01:30:28] the silverback gorilla driving a fucking muscle car.

[01:30:31] Click, click, boom.

[01:30:33] As he's like driving this fucking Toyota Supra.

[01:30:35] It's sweet, sweet drifts.

[01:30:37] I'm going to be the person with the YouTube channel complaining that they're, uh, um, species

[01:30:44] recasting all these old movies that I love.

[01:30:47] They're making them woke with all the monkeys.

[01:30:51] What do you mean?

[01:30:53] The re-releasing alien resurrection and putting iguanas for all the cast members.

[01:31:01] Gooey, what's your favorite, uh, creature recast movie?

[01:31:05] Or it could be, it could be all oops, all apes.

[01:31:08] I don't know.

[01:31:08] I was thinking like, oh, they're doing Ghostbusters, but with monkeys now.

[01:31:15] All the ghosts are played by monkeys with sheets on them.

[01:31:19] They're like, all right, that's good.

[01:31:20] Yeah.

[01:31:21] All right, stinky, be scary.

[01:31:23] And he's just like, oh, the sheet on him.

[01:31:27] Egon would have to be like a spider monkey, right?

[01:31:30] Like, with glasses on.

[01:31:32] A fucking marmot.

[01:31:33] He's just chilling there.

[01:31:36] They're going to do a Curious George where everyone else is a monkey except for Curious.

[01:31:41] Oh.

[01:31:42] It's just a guy.

[01:31:44] Who would play Curious George?

[01:31:46] And he's like, please, please help me!

[01:31:46] Like, he's all distressed and shit and the monkeys are just like fucking abusive.

[01:31:51] Dude, it's Jonah Hill.

[01:31:52] Jonah Hill's playing shorts.

[01:31:54] Jonah Hill.

[01:31:54] Okay.

[01:31:57] Oh my God.

[01:31:58] They need to do, they need to do a live action adaptation of, uh, we'll say Dragon Ball Z, but it's all monkeys.

[01:32:05] So you've got like monkeys with awesome, like blonde spiky wigs.

[01:32:08] They already are mostly all monkeys.

[01:32:10] Whoa.

[01:32:11] Oh, come on, man.

[01:32:13] I thought you liked Dragon Ball.

[01:32:15] Yeah, with the tails and shit.

[01:32:17] Okay.

[01:32:17] So, no, swap it.

[01:32:19] Bing!

[01:32:19] Swap it.

[01:32:20] Like they're monkeys and then at night when they have the tails and shit, they turn into

[01:32:23] humans.

[01:32:24] They all turn into Tom Hanks.

[01:32:27] I love that.

[01:32:28] Oh my God.

[01:32:29] You know what?

[01:32:29] Just replace every Tom Hanks movie with a monkey.

[01:32:32] Like, Forrest Gump with just like, I mean, he basically has the pink capacity of the chimpanzee

[01:32:37] anyways in that movie, but like.

[01:32:39] Turner and Hooch, but it's a big, huge dog and a monkey.

[01:32:44] Uh, what is it?

[01:32:45] Dragnet with Dan Aykroyd.

[01:32:50] Splash.

[01:32:52] Oh, dude.

[01:32:52] What's that one stupid, uh, uh, was it?

[01:32:55] Grown ups?

[01:32:57] Oh.

[01:32:57] No.

[01:32:57] Captain Phillips.

[01:32:58] Captain Phillips.

[01:33:02] Oh my God.

[01:33:04] Oh.

[01:33:04] Dang it.

[01:33:06] That's good.

[01:33:07] Redo, uh, um, Redo Ocean's Eleven, but it's all monkeys.

[01:33:10] Monkeys pulling off a bank heist.

[01:33:12] Yeah, but they all, they definitely all have to be like different types of monkeys.

[01:33:16] You know what I mean?

[01:33:17] And this just in, uh, you know, we've got a bunch of monkeys.

[01:33:20] We got, we got the skinny on, uh, upcoming things that are being adapted.

[01:33:24] Uh, whether you like it or not, Schindler's List is going to be adapted as an all.

[01:33:31] Titanic.

[01:33:32] Actually, that was kind of, um.

[01:33:34] The girl with the orange, with the red jacket is just an orangutan.

[01:33:38] What was it?

[01:33:39] The last of the.

[01:33:42] Which planet of the eights was that?

[01:33:45] Near.

[01:33:46] Far.

[01:33:48] That's Titanic.

[01:33:49] Titanic.

[01:33:49] I know.

[01:33:49] I said that.

[01:33:50] I said that while you were going off about Schindler's List.

[01:33:52] Like they should do Titanic, but all monkeys.

[01:33:54] The, uh.

[01:33:55] Schindler's champ.

[01:33:59] The last, um, Planet of the Apes movie before this new one was actually like kind of a, there was a monkey concentration camp in that movie.

[01:34:07] Oh my God.

[01:34:08] Yeah.

[01:34:10] It was really, it was really intense.

[01:34:12] Like a really dark kind of fucked up movie.

[01:34:15] A lot of the times.

[01:34:15] Hell yeah.

[01:34:16] Thanks for sponsoring this podcast monkeys.

[01:34:20] Take it to the fridge.

[01:34:22] The.

[01:34:40] The.

[01:34:40] We're so fucking back, dude.

[01:34:42] This is it.

[01:34:44] I really want to name this episode Schindler's champ, but I'm pretty sure you'd get very, very canceled.

[01:34:50] You'd draw some eyebrows.

[01:34:51] Yeah.

[01:34:53] Fuck it.

[01:34:54] Do it anyways.

[01:34:56] Shit.

[01:34:56] Those chimps aren't hurting nobody until they are.

[01:35:02] Oh my God.

[01:35:03] Did you guys see that fucking documentary on, on HBO?

[01:35:08] The chimp crazy.

[01:35:09] It's by the same dude that made tiger king.

[01:35:11] I heard.

[01:35:12] Oh no.

[01:35:12] It is fucked, man.

[01:35:14] These people are like, I want my chimpanzee and no one could take him from me.

[01:35:19] But, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, and it's just like, you realize this

[01:35:22] is a fucking wild animal that will rip your face off.

[01:35:26] Like, and like these people are getting maimed.

[01:35:29] Like they're like, I've had this chimp for so long.

[01:35:32] You trust me so much.

[01:35:33] And then it's like, they're missing.

[01:35:34] Next thing.

[01:35:35] Oh yeah.

[01:35:35] Next thing you know, it's like missing a pinky.

[01:35:37] Their leg is all ripped up.

[01:35:38] And it's like, what happened?

[01:35:39] It's like, oh, you know, he had a little incident.

[01:35:43] And it's like, yeah, cause he's a fucking wild animal that you're keeping in a cage in

[01:35:47] your basement.

[01:35:48] Oh, Jesus Christ.

[01:35:50] It's crazy.

[01:35:51] Yeah.

[01:35:51] It's, it's a wild documentary.

[01:35:52] You definitely should watch it.

[01:35:55] Joe dirt, but it's all monkeys.

[01:35:57] Oh, except kid rock is still played by.

[01:36:00] Oh yeah.

[01:36:02] Kid rock is absolutely.

[01:36:03] My name is chimp.

[01:36:05] Chimp rock.

[01:36:07] Dude.

[01:36:09] Monkey without a cause.

[01:36:12] Holy shit.

[01:36:13] Yes.

[01:36:13] We're, you heard that right.

[01:36:14] We're back.

[01:36:14] We're still talking about breath of the wild and occasionally chimps.

[01:36:18] We are so back.

[01:36:19] We are so back.

[01:36:20] Uh, one cool thing that I totally forgot to bring up is the cool photo encyclopedia.

[01:36:24] How you can like, you can snap photos with the, uh, the Sheikah slate.

[01:36:28] That's what it's called, right?

[01:36:29] Sheikah slate.

[01:36:30] Yeah.

[01:36:30] Yeah.

[01:36:31] Your tablet, the Sheikah iPad, uh, you snap a photo of something and it'll, uh, it'll keep

[01:36:36] track of certain stats or like the name of it or like where it can be found and slap

[01:36:39] that into your little photo encyclopedia thing.

[01:36:42] And that's really cool.

[01:36:43] I like to fill that up and sneaking up on horses and snapping a photo of them real fast.

[01:36:48] Oh, and the cool horses.

[01:36:50] Oh, the horses.

[01:36:51] That was, that was a big thing for sure.

[01:36:54] Yeah.

[01:36:55] The horses getting a, getting a fine one and being like, I like this one.

[01:36:59] And then you name it and you're like, you're my favorite.

[01:37:01] And then you find a cooler looking one.

[01:37:02] You're like, I don't like you anymore.

[01:37:04] I want to play.

[01:37:04] It's like that meme of toy story.

[01:37:06] I don't want to play with you anymore.

[01:37:09] Weren't there like, um, rarer horses too?

[01:37:12] That there were certain, certain quests.

[01:37:16] There was, um, well, yeah, there's like Zelda's horse or descendant of Zelda's horse.

[01:37:23] Yeah.

[01:37:24] Yeah.

[01:37:24] That was the all white one, right?

[01:37:26] Yeah.

[01:37:26] Like glittery shit.

[01:37:28] Uh huh.

[01:37:29] Just the giant horse.

[01:37:31] Did you got, did anybody name a horse?

[01:37:33] Did anybody name a horse Epona?

[01:37:36] Sure did.

[01:37:38] You can't ride a moose in that game or not a moose, a caribou or whatever.

[01:37:41] You can't ride a caribou or like a bear in breath of the wild, which is a fucking mistake.

[01:37:46] I wish you could ride a bear all over Hyrule.

[01:37:50] You can ride a bear.

[01:37:52] You can.

[01:37:53] What?

[01:37:54] I think they're kind of, they're, it's, they're difficult to get on, but you can.

[01:38:00] Son of a bitch.

[01:38:00] You can also ride the deer and stuff or whatever they are, but you can't.

[01:38:05] What?

[01:38:05] They won't let you register them, but you can like, you can like ride them.

[01:38:10] You can ride a Lionel actually.

[01:38:11] Holy shit.

[01:38:12] Learning new shit in 2024 about breath of the wild.

[01:38:16] That's awesome.

[01:38:17] I didn't know that either.

[01:38:17] You can ride a Lionel for like a couple seconds.

[01:38:20] A second.

[01:38:21] Do damage to it.

[01:38:21] Yeah.

[01:38:22] Cause you like jump on its back and slash it and shit.

[01:38:25] Don't you?

[01:38:25] Yeah.

[01:38:25] You don't really control it.

[01:38:27] It's just, you know, an attack, but.

[01:38:28] It's bucking.

[01:38:30] Um, there's a quest to go get a, like one of the skeleton horses, which you also can't

[01:38:36] register.

[01:38:37] Oh.

[01:38:37] Which is annoying.

[01:38:39] The Lord of the mountain.

[01:38:40] The Lord of the mountain.

[01:38:42] Yeah.

[01:38:42] That's.

[01:38:42] Oh, that was cool.

[01:38:44] Shit.

[01:38:44] Yeah.

[01:38:45] A lot of good rideables.

[01:38:48] Good rideables.

[01:38:50] Yeah.

[01:38:51] Oh, you could get a Gannon's horse too.

[01:38:54] The Expendables, but it's all monkeys.

[01:38:55] Oh no.

[01:38:56] Except Sylvester Stallone is still in it.

[01:38:59] But you got one dressed as like Chuck Norris, but it's got like a little goatee and shit.

[01:39:03] Aaron focus.

[01:39:05] Okay.

[01:39:06] Okay.

[01:39:06] No monkeys in the wild.

[01:39:07] Breath of the wild.

[01:39:08] Yeah.

[01:39:08] Sorry.

[01:39:09] Breath of the wild, but it's all monkeys.

[01:39:12] Fuck.

[01:39:13] Don't get me started, dude.

[01:39:15] Soundtrack.

[01:39:16] Yeah.

[01:39:16] Soundtrack is really, really good.

[01:39:19] Fuck.

[01:39:20] I'm sorry.

[01:39:21] One last one.

[01:39:22] I'm just, I'm imagining, I'm imagining a monkey.

[01:39:25] Monkey with like a fucking bandolier bullets and like a big old catling gun.

[01:39:30] Just like.

[01:39:31] Oh, yeah.

[01:39:33] Like Rambo dude.

[01:39:34] Rambo, but all monkeys.

[01:39:35] Okay.

[01:39:37] Sorry.

[01:39:38] The soundtrack is, uh, dude.

[01:39:41] Yeah.

[01:39:41] The soundtrack is really good.

[01:39:42] It's, um, more ambient than it is anything.

[01:39:46] Like keystrokes here and there.

[01:39:47] What?

[01:39:48] What Jerry?

[01:39:49] What?

[01:39:50] Okay.

[01:39:51] Okay.

[01:39:52] Yeah.

[01:39:53] I, I totally should have slapped some tracks into here, but I forgot all about it, but

[01:39:58] slap us some trackers, slap us some tracks, but I love like it's ambient, but it changes

[01:40:04] a lot in like subtle ways.

[01:40:06] Like the, you know, the towers have their own kind of theme when you're near them, but

[01:40:09] it, it pretty, it's, they're both pretty calm.

[01:40:13] And so like the way it like shifts between them, it really is just like, is a, is a slight

[01:40:18] vibe.

[01:40:19] You don't even like, yeah, it's like almost imperceptible.

[01:40:23] And I've seen, I feel like, I feel like this game changed the entire landscape for Nintendo's

[01:40:30] soundtracks going forward.

[01:40:32] And it had a very organic and like very acoustical sound.

[01:40:39] And I don't mean like an acoustic guitar, but I, I mean, like it was just very, like there

[01:40:44] was a lot of piano and stuff.

[01:40:45] And like, it wasn't, there wasn't a lot of times where like you were out on the open

[01:40:49] world that you're just like hearing like this full on music.

[01:40:52] It would just be like these little, like, and like, you just hear like these little glimmers

[01:40:58] of piano.

[01:40:58] And it was just, I don't know.

[01:41:00] I just like gave a certain vibe.

[01:41:03] And ever since then, I feel like there's a lot more games within Nintendo's library that

[01:41:07] have utilized like the whole, like less is more because a lot of times it's literally just

[01:41:14] a piano.

[01:41:15] And like, I don't know if you guys have ever seen any videos of like the composer playing

[01:41:20] this shit.

[01:41:20] It's wild.

[01:41:21] Cause it's just like such a vibe.

[01:41:24] Like the dude is like just obviously stoned out of his mind, just watching footage of breath

[01:41:29] of the wild and being like, I'm just going to put a little here.

[01:41:33] Now we're in the tall grass and then just put a little thing there and got a, got on a

[01:41:38] horse.

[01:41:39] And like, I don't know.

[01:41:40] It's just like the sound of pianos just tickling my fucking ear, your drums is just so good.

[01:41:48] I love it.

[01:41:49] I love the soundtrack.

[01:41:50] And it's like, it's a very minimalistic soundtrack, but then also not so in some other aspects

[01:41:57] too.

[01:41:57] Like the main theme is like the one that they used in the trailers.

[01:42:02] Holy shit.

[01:42:02] You want to talk about hype?

[01:42:03] I wanted to flip a desk.

[01:42:05] The first time I heard that song.

[01:42:07] Holy shit.

[01:42:08] The way they incorporate it throughout the game is really creative too.

[01:42:11] It has like different contexts.

[01:42:13] And then they play it like this crazy epic version during the final battle and where it's

[01:42:19] like this booming version.

[01:42:20] And again, it's got someone on like the piano just going like over top of it.

[01:42:26] It's like, see, what do you think?

[01:42:30] How shitty does that sound?

[01:42:31] Pretty shit, but keep it in.

[01:42:33] That's beautiful.

[01:42:35] No, I mean, I mean, the music is good coming out of your phone into the microphone.

[01:42:39] So that's a great, but I think it serves its purpose.

[01:42:42] We see what I mean?

[01:42:43] Little.

[01:42:44] Yeah, that's when you're just wandering around.

[01:42:47] It'll just be like that.

[01:42:48] Or when you start fighting an enemy, it'll kind of ramp up a little bit.

[01:42:51] I feel like a little bit more tribal kind of, but.

[01:42:55] Cool, like dynamic of like, well, what were you going to say?

[01:43:00] Oh, it works really well with the sort of isolated feel that you that is evoked by the

[01:43:09] whole game like this isolation and then this sort of post apocalyptic world.

[01:43:15] And.

[01:43:16] Just, you know, you're you're wandering around on your own.

[01:43:20] But I get like these little piano fills and you hear a lot of the nature sounds along with it.

[01:43:28] Oh, yeah.

[01:43:29] Just cool.

[01:43:29] Or like even link just walking around, depending on like it'd be cool, like just the sound design

[01:43:35] of like if you got a bunch of stuff on, you can really feel your like the weight of your

[01:43:39] character through the sound design, too.

[01:43:42] Oh, yeah, it's true.

[01:43:43] Just like the shuttering of like the armor and stuff when you're running around.

[01:43:48] And they would like, you know, as you approach a stable or a town, like the music would start

[01:43:53] to.

[01:43:54] Creep in as you got closer or you could be out in the wild and you'd start to hear a cast

[01:44:02] playing the accordion and you can hear it coming from, you know, so like really.

[01:44:09] They used proximity really well.

[01:44:12] Yeah.

[01:44:12] For that stuff.

[01:44:14] Oh, yeah.

[01:44:15] Yeah.

[01:44:16] Real cool.

[01:44:16] Speaking of pianos, I see a piano in the background.

[01:44:20] Who's the piano player?

[01:44:21] Who can give us a little?

[01:44:23] Neither of us, really.

[01:44:25] I don't know if it's it's plugged in right now.

[01:44:28] Oh, man.

[01:44:29] I have one, but I'm not really.

[01:44:31] I don't really play.

[01:44:32] Damn.

[01:44:33] You know, I have.

[01:44:34] I don't know for a diddler diddler diddler.

[01:44:36] The diddler diddler.

[01:44:37] Press that.

[01:44:38] Press that power button over there in the top.

[01:44:40] Maybe I'll do it.

[01:44:42] It would be hilarious.

[01:44:43] McKinnon was like, yeah, I don't I don't know.

[01:44:45] I don't really.

[01:44:46] And then just starts playing like fucking Beethoven and shit.

[01:44:49] All right.

[01:44:49] Here.

[01:44:49] We'll just do a.

[01:44:55] I don't know.

[01:44:56] Did that pick up at all?

[01:44:57] Yeah.

[01:44:58] Okay.

[01:44:59] I that was not.

[01:45:00] I was just jamming.

[01:45:02] I was just jamming.

[01:45:03] Play smoke on the water.

[01:45:05] Bring us back to your band days.

[01:45:07] Sometimes it would do just like it would be like.

[01:45:12] It was like.

[01:45:13] Yes.

[01:45:13] And you'd be like, why are we?

[01:45:15] We're twinkling.

[01:45:16] Okay.

[01:45:17] See, the piano was a good idea.

[01:45:19] Better than Aaron's fucking phone.

[01:45:23] Actually.

[01:45:23] Yeah.

[01:45:24] Speaking of piano, just I mean, one of the craziest piano stings in the game is when you

[01:45:30] Guardians, you get spotted by the Guardian.

[01:45:33] Iconic.

[01:45:34] And it just started.

[01:45:35] It's crazy.

[01:45:37] Yeah.

[01:45:38] Oh, yeah.

[01:45:38] That is like some math metal turned into fucking piano.

[01:45:42] It's like.

[01:45:42] Did it.

[01:45:42] Did it.

[01:45:43] Did it.

[01:45:44] Did it.

[01:45:44] Did it.

[01:45:44] Did it.

[01:45:44] Did it.

[01:45:44] Did it.

[01:45:44] Did it.

[01:45:44] It's like, like fucking poly rhythms and shit.

[01:45:47] Like it is some wild stuff.

[01:45:50] And man, those things were so intimidating.

[01:45:53] Oh, yeah.

[01:45:53] First time like coming up against them and just not knowing, you know, like how to deal with

[01:45:58] them.

[01:45:59] Yeah.

[01:45:59] God.

[01:46:00] Even still like there's ways you can reliably beat them, but like it's still pretty tough.

[01:46:06] Mm hmm.

[01:46:08] I get intimidated by him to this day.

[01:46:11] Yeah.

[01:46:12] Hell yeah.

[01:46:12] Yeah.

[01:46:14] And, uh, we at the very beginning, we were like, oh, we'll come back to the, the guard

[01:46:19] with the beasts.

[01:46:21] What are they called?

[01:46:21] Divine beasts.

[01:46:22] Divine beasts.

[01:46:23] Yeah.

[01:46:23] We were talking about coming back to those.

[01:46:24] They're basically just gigantic, puzzly shrines.

[01:46:28] I thought they were fun.

[01:46:29] I liked the, I think it was like the elephant where you could like, it would rotate.

[01:46:32] I think like you walk on water would like, oh, yeah.

[01:46:36] Are you talking about the one where you'd like the inside spins or whatever?

[01:46:40] I think so.

[01:46:41] Maybe it was the, maybe it was the lizard one, but yeah, you'd, you'd, you'd walk on whatever

[01:46:47] the, whatever the hell, and then you hit a switch and then it would turn and rotate and you'd

[01:46:50] be on the, what was the ceiling, but is now the floor.

[01:46:53] And well now call me crazy, but I see the next topic here is a dislikes.

[01:47:00] And I got to tell you, you can call me old fashioned.

[01:47:03] I miss fucking dungeons, man.

[01:47:07] Like dungeons, dungeon ass dungeons.

[01:47:09] And even tears of the kingdom ass dungeons.

[01:47:12] When tears of the kingdom was like, we brought dungeons back.

[01:47:14] I was like, you fucking liars.

[01:47:16] You, you barely did it.

[01:47:18] Like they're there.

[01:47:19] Yes.

[01:47:20] Yeah.

[01:47:20] But like, I want very like, and I know it's, it's difficult because of the type of game

[01:47:27] this is like, it's hard to be like, okay, well we're going to make a very item, like item

[01:47:34] centered dungeon that like has very like item based puzzles and stuff when they kind of give

[01:47:42] you all the items at the beginning and they're like, okay, go do the thing.

[01:47:44] But I still feel like if like, I like the idea of the shrines, but it's almost like if they

[01:47:52] had a way to take some of those ideas that they had with the shrines and be like, okay,

[01:47:58] well here's a dungeon.

[01:47:59] And this is the theme.

[01:48:01] You're going to be using this thing a lot.

[01:48:04] You already have it, but you're going to be using it a lot.

[01:48:06] I don't know why.

[01:48:07] Like, I remember coming away from this game and being like, man, fuck those, those stupid

[01:48:12] puzzle dungeons.

[01:48:13] Like, I don't know why they struck a bad chord with me, but like, I just, I wanted, and they

[01:48:19] were pretty short too.

[01:48:21] Like, I don't remember them being very long.

[01:48:23] And I like after the first one and I was like, oh, I guess this is like the thing before

[01:48:28] the dungeon now.

[01:48:29] Like, this is the thing that's going to unlock the dungeon.

[01:48:32] And then I was like, okay, now go do the next one.

[01:48:34] And I'm like, oh, fuck off.

[01:48:35] Are these the dungeons?

[01:48:37] Like, and yeah, I don't know.

[01:48:39] That was probably my biggest dislike in the game was the lack of dungeons, actual dungeons.

[01:48:48] Yeah.

[01:48:48] I think some, like there were some where it was like, it was pretty creative.

[01:48:54] Like, I think the desert bond of Boris, I think it is where you kind of had to like find,

[01:49:00] you'd have to like rotate it.

[01:49:02] It kind of had like a get the whole dungeon all electrified type puzzle that that was kind

[01:49:08] of unique because you did have to like, not in the exact same way, but like similar to

[01:49:14] certain classic Zelda dungeons, you had to like, like kind of figure out how the whole

[01:49:18] dungeon connected to itself.

[01:49:21] And that was cool.

[01:49:22] But then there were other ones where it was sort of just like five different shrine style

[01:49:28] challenges that were just like, go to them and do that one off puzzle.

[01:49:33] And so that is kind of 50 for me, it was like 50, 50, maybe I'm like an interesting idea

[01:49:39] to like, yeah, that's more not that exciting.

[01:49:44] I would have liked to see more of what they did with Hyrule Castle.

[01:49:48] Where it's just like an area you explore.

[01:49:51] Yeah.

[01:49:52] That's still that that's got like little puzzles.

[01:49:54] It's got a lot of optional areas.

[01:49:57] Like you can just skip and go straight to Ganon.

[01:50:01] It's really big.

[01:50:02] Yeah, it does have a lot of really cool.

[01:50:03] Cool areas in there.

[01:50:06] I like the like the jail kind of area.

[01:50:09] Mm hmm.

[01:50:10] And the library and it's definitely like the biggest version of the Hyrule Castle,

[01:50:17] I think in these in the whole series, right?

[01:50:19] Like it's gotta be.

[01:50:21] Yeah, because there's it's like massive and it'll take you like a few hours to fully explore

[01:50:27] it.

[01:50:27] Whereas like in the other games, it was just kind of like a few rooms.

[01:50:31] Mm hmm.

[01:50:32] And there's so many different ways that you can actually get into Hyrule Castle in this

[01:50:37] game.

[01:50:37] Because I know back when I was back when I had first started playing it.

[01:50:42] But Tommy, my old my old co-host and I, we were messaging each other back and forth about

[01:50:46] it.

[01:50:47] He I forget how exactly he did it, but it was totally different from how I got in there.

[01:50:51] I remember just like kind of cheese in my way in there through the glider.

[01:50:54] I would climb up mountain glide.

[01:50:56] I landed on like a tower or pillar just barely, you know, I would keep jumping and gliding

[01:51:02] to like different points to try to glide into the tower.

[01:51:05] And then of course, there's a there's those like little turret robots that would zap me

[01:51:09] and I would fall and fucking die.

[01:51:11] But every so often I would kind of get past those.

[01:51:16] But then something else would just appear and kick my ass and I die.

[01:51:18] But eventually got in and fucked up Ganon.

[01:51:22] Really kicked his teeth in.

[01:51:24] But what didn't you like about the game?

[01:51:29] I'm very flip floppy about the weapon degradation because like on one hand, it's annoying as fuck

[01:51:37] to just be like in the middle of a battle.

[01:51:39] You know, you're swinging away your weapon breaks.

[01:51:42] It's like, well, fuck.

[01:51:43] Okay, I'll move to the next one.

[01:51:44] And then that one breaks.

[01:51:45] Yeah.

[01:51:46] Like with the shield sliding, you slide on your shield and then it breaks and it's

[01:51:49] like, well, guess I can't fucking do that anymore.

[01:51:52] But yeah, but also at the same time, it adds to the real like organic living feel of the

[01:52:01] game about how like this is this whole entire living breathing world.

[01:52:05] And so, of course, all your shit's going to break if you use it too much.

[01:52:08] Yeah, I don't know.

[01:52:10] I hate it.

[01:52:11] I kind of like it.

[01:52:12] I don't know, man.

[01:52:14] How do you guys feel?

[01:52:15] I, I, I can see like, I do like because my favorite parts of the game are either in

[01:52:22] like the beginning or the eventide quest where you have nothing and you have to like start

[01:52:27] gathering resources.

[01:52:29] And I think it plays kind of a fun role there where you're like kind of limited and stuff.

[01:52:34] My issue with it more was that I feel like maybe they, they could have maybe like, I don't

[01:52:39] know, tweaked the, the rate certain things broke and maybe just like the amount.

[01:52:45] Cause I never had the issue of like running out of items.

[01:52:48] I usually had the issue of like, Oh, I'm having too many.

[01:52:52] Yeah.

[01:52:52] Like, Oh great.

[01:52:52] My fifth Royal Claymore, any game this you look at it and like, this would be like, you

[01:52:59] would shit your pants if you got this in any other game.

[01:53:02] But in this I've got like, they're just, it's just like trash and throwing it away, you know?

[01:53:07] Yeah.

[01:53:08] Um, so that was, that was more my kind of issue.

[01:53:10] Like once I got past like, okay, I'm having fun experimenting with the different type of

[01:53:15] weapons.

[01:53:16] It got kind of, um, boring, but I think, you know, like tears of the kingdom, I think kind

[01:53:21] of encouraged you a bit more to like mess around and like, Oh fuck.

[01:53:26] Yeah.

[01:53:26] You know, fuse things to other things.

[01:53:28] So it was, you know, I still had a ton of items, but like, I, uh, didn't have that

[01:53:34] like, well, great.

[01:53:34] There goes another great item.

[01:53:37] You know, what, what did you think?

[01:53:40] Um, I, I was never mad about the weapon degradation.

[01:53:46] I, I think it could have been cool if there was like a repair upgrade system.

[01:53:52] Oh yeah.

[01:53:53] Yeah.

[01:53:54] Especially cause they did like a, a weapon and item upgrade system in Skyward sword.

[01:54:00] Yeah.

[01:54:01] Uh, so that's not, it's not unprecedented.

[01:54:03] Yeah.

[01:54:05] Uh, but yeah, I, I do like the, the tears of the kingdom sort of.

[01:54:10] Was there anything that you didn't like, like specifically trying to, trying to think

[01:54:16] it's like, cause I feel like some breath of wild and tears of the kingdom are, are my

[01:54:21] favorite games.

[01:54:24] Uh, um, I feel like there, there are certain things that maybe I didn't like before, but

[01:54:30] then tears of the kingdom came out.

[01:54:33] And now I kind of, they're like a pair to me.

[01:54:37] Like, and in some ways, like tears fulfills some of the things like breath of the wild is a

[01:54:45] very isolated.

[01:54:47] There's not a ton of towns and NPCs.

[01:54:52] And that's something I kind of missed when I was playing it.

[01:54:56] Like I was like, I want like a bustling Hyrule castle town, but after playing tears, it really

[01:55:03] made me appreciate the isolation there.

[01:55:06] Um, yeah.

[01:55:07] Cause you had characters who were like trying to fortify, you know, and like reestablish the

[01:55:14] world and stuff.

[01:55:14] You had the, that little outpost town.

[01:55:18] Yeah.

[01:55:18] Yeah.

[01:55:19] The dude you would like make shacks for, and he would be like, okay, cool.

[01:55:22] Here's, here's some rupees and a baked apple, bro.

[01:55:26] Thanks.

[01:55:26] You know what's crazy?

[01:55:27] And Beth like lost her mind when I told like, cause her and Greg were like talking about

[01:55:32] how, you know, how crazy Terry town was.

[01:55:37] I didn't do a goddamn thing in Terry town.

[01:55:41] I didn't, I barely even knew that Terry town existed.

[01:55:46] Like I didn't even touch that stuff.

[01:55:50] And they were like, are you serious?

[01:55:53] But like I notoriously do not do side stuff.

[01:55:57] I'm usually like a mainline kind of thing, but the majority of my, my side stuff in this

[01:56:02] game was just like my ADHD being like, what's that thing?

[01:56:06] What's that thing over there?

[01:56:07] What's this thing over here?

[01:56:08] Hey, look at that cave.

[01:56:09] Hey, look at this thing.

[01:56:10] That tree's cool.

[01:56:11] Like I, I, a lot of the, the, the hundred hours that I put into this thing were just

[01:56:17] me veering off by seeing something, but I never did anything with Terry town.

[01:56:24] Like anything.

[01:56:26] That was such a, that was such a great quest.

[01:56:29] Yeah.

[01:56:30] I can't think of any, anything else that I like openly disliked about the game.

[01:56:35] Well, I shouldn't say openly, like I'm keeping a fucking secret.

[01:56:38] There's nothing, there's, there's nothing about breath of the water, nothing else about

[01:56:42] breath of the wild that I didn't like.

[01:56:45] Um, I'm really racking my brain.

[01:56:47] No, that's, that's it, man.

[01:56:49] For me, it's just the puzzle.

[01:56:51] Everything else is perfect in my eyes.

[01:56:53] Yeah.

[01:56:54] For me, it's like, there are, there are like things I'm like, Oh, that could have been better,

[01:56:58] but it's outweighed by, you know, just the overall experience being so it's not even

[01:57:04] like, you know, I, I love, I'm a big Zelda fan.

[01:57:07] So it's, it's not even like my, my favorite Zelda game, but there's just so much that it

[01:57:13] does that no other game I feel like can capture that same feeling.

[01:57:17] So, um, it's one where it's like a lot easier for me to focus on all the things I

[01:57:22] love about it.

[01:57:23] Yeah.

[01:57:24] So what would you guys say?

[01:57:25] Would you, how many, like what, uh, how many baked apples out of 10 would you give this

[01:57:29] game?

[01:57:30] How many golden skull shill is at a 10?

[01:57:32] What would you give this?

[01:57:33] Oh, that's good too.

[01:57:35] How many beetles?

[01:57:36] No, nevermind.

[01:57:36] No, skull shill is good.

[01:57:39] Oh, I love beetle.

[01:57:42] Yeah.

[01:57:43] Beetle.

[01:57:43] Oh, he bullies you in this one though.

[01:57:45] Give me that beetle.

[01:57:47] He's so annoying.

[01:57:48] Like he's so thirsty for your beetles.

[01:57:51] Let me keep them.

[01:57:55] I found this beetle.

[01:57:57] What would you give it out of 10?

[01:58:01] I, I give it a 10.

[01:58:03] Yeah.

[01:58:05] It really is like a, I don't know if I could, it's a landmark title, I think for the series

[01:58:11] for gaming, you know, it's like, it's out of my top tier of Zelda games, but I don't

[01:58:19] know if I could say it's not like a 10 out of 10 game.

[01:58:23] It's just so iconic.

[01:58:26] And so, yeah, I mean, it's changed.

[01:58:30] You know, we just had echoes of wisdom come out and it's, uh, Oh yeah.

[01:58:34] You can totally see in echoes of wisdom.

[01:58:37] It was like, Oh, this is now a top down breath of the wild.

[01:58:40] Yeah.

[01:58:41] Like re-imagined.

[01:58:42] There's so many games I need to buy, dude.

[01:58:44] I need echoes of wisdom.

[01:58:45] I need to buy brothership.

[01:58:47] I need to buy, I need to buy metaphor.

[01:58:50] Need to buy dragon quest three.

[01:58:52] It's four fucking games, man.

[01:58:54] That's like what?

[01:58:55] 120 bug.

[01:58:56] No, that'd be.

[01:58:56] Well, you did.

[01:58:57] That's not a good thing.

[01:58:58] You bought UFO 50 and you got, uh, infinite wealth and you, Oh, did you?

[01:59:03] Yeah.

[01:59:03] I bought infinite wealth.

[01:59:04] I'm too, I'm out on a lot of new games.

[01:59:07] Cause I, I for sure dedicate a decent, a monkey, a decent amount of time.

[01:59:12] Every monkey amount of time.

[01:59:14] I got monkeys.

[01:59:15] Well, we're playing, I'm playing Diddy Kong racing right now.

[01:59:18] So that might be hell.

[01:59:19] Yeah.

[01:59:20] You know what?

[01:59:20] Diddy Kong racing is better than Mario cart.

[01:59:25] I think Andy.

[01:59:26] Yeah.

[01:59:27] That's a, that's a big topic amongst our friend group.

[01:59:30] Yeah.

[01:59:30] Yeah.

[01:59:31] But I, I dedicate like so much time a month to playing a Nintendo 64 game that I'm like

[01:59:38] squeezing in modern games, you know?

[01:59:40] And that's okay.

[01:59:41] That's totally, I totally get that.

[01:59:43] I've only recently started playing modern games again because I was like, holy shit.

[01:59:48] There's so many crazy things coming out now and I really want to play them.

[01:59:52] But like for a long time, I was just actually, I played more N64 games this year than I ever

[01:59:59] have.

[01:59:59] Hell yeah.

[02:00:00] Like for sure.

[02:00:01] This year has been like a big N64 year for me.

[02:00:05] I think the next thing that I want to tackle on N64 is I finally want to clean up a blast

[02:00:10] corpse.

[02:00:11] Yeah.

[02:00:12] It's a hard fucking game, man.

[02:00:14] Toward the end of that thing.

[02:00:15] Holy shit.

[02:00:16] That gets hard.

[02:00:17] It really is tough.

[02:00:19] God.

[02:00:19] Volcano.

[02:00:20] Oh, I haven't even, I haven't even got to volcano.

[02:00:23] I'm stuck on one where I have to like use the stupid, God, I hate the dump truck.

[02:00:29] The dump truck is such a piece of shit and it's so wonky like to try to get that drift.

[02:00:35] Holy fucking Tonka truck.

[02:00:37] Speaking of retro games.

[02:00:39] What's happening?

[02:00:40] Oh, we're doing random recommended games?

[02:00:42] Yeah.

[02:00:43] Unless you want to give your, your rating of however many baked apples out of 10.

[02:00:46] 14.

[02:00:47] Who cares?

[02:00:48] Uh, random recommended games.

[02:00:58] Yeah.

[02:00:58] So we like to, uh, close out our show.

[02:01:01] Uh, you know, it's the, it's the saddest part of the show because we have to say goodbye,

[02:01:04] but it's also the most generous part of the show because we give the listener a little something,

[02:01:09] something that we feel like, you know, you should absolutely play.

[02:01:13] It's just a, it's like a personal recommendation from, from each of us.

[02:01:18] Uh, so you guys are the guests.

[02:01:21] So, uh, I would love for you guys to recommend a game or demand.

[02:01:26] You can make demands here.

[02:01:28] This is, this is a, this is a good space for making demands of the listeners.

[02:01:32] Modern or retro.

[02:01:33] Yeah.

[02:01:34] Okay.

[02:01:35] Whatever's on your brain.

[02:01:37] Okay.

[02:01:37] Well, I, I won't demand for mine.

[02:01:39] I won't demand.

[02:01:40] Uh, I don't know.

[02:01:42] You can't, there's not like a great way to like, get ahold of this game, like legally right

[02:01:49] now.

[02:01:49] So I'm not going to demand you, but you can figure it out.

[02:01:52] I think, um, I want to say just an N64 game just to keep the vibe of Tetris fear.

[02:02:00] Uh, Oh yeah.

[02:02:02] The game Fox hidden gem on, on the console.

[02:02:05] It's like, what if Tetris was in a sphere?

[02:02:09] Need I say more?

[02:02:11] Yeah, it's awesome.

[02:02:13] Yeah.

[02:02:13] It's a cool game.

[02:02:14] It hurts my brain cause I'm not terribly smart, but it is fun.

[02:02:18] I thought for a long time that wetress was also some sort of weird water Tetris, but it's

[02:02:26] just a different thing altogether.

[02:02:27] Wet, wet Tetris.

[02:02:28] Yeah.

[02:02:29] Wet Tetris.

[02:02:30] What's believable after stuff like a Hattress and stuff that.

[02:02:34] Oh my God.

[02:02:35] Hattress.

[02:02:38] Do you have one game?

[02:02:40] Uh, yeah, I, I just started playing Mirthwood.

[02:02:44] It came out last week.

[02:02:46] I heard familiar.

[02:02:47] Lots of stuff about this.

[02:02:49] Please tell me more.

[02:02:50] Yeah.

[02:02:50] It's like a fantasy medieval fantasy life, sim RPG.

[02:02:55] Whoa.

[02:02:56] Yeah.

[02:02:57] You're, you just like, you're starting a new life and, uh, you get a house that you have

[02:03:01] to repair and, uh, you know, it's, it's got survival elements, you know, you gotta eat food

[02:03:09] and take care of your health.

[02:03:10] And, uh, that's cool.

[02:03:13] It's open.

[02:03:15] It's open.

[02:03:15] It's open world.

[02:03:15] It's open world.

[02:03:17] It's open world.

[02:03:18] It's open world.

[02:03:20] It's open world.

[02:03:22] You can go explore everywhere.

[02:03:25] Uh, there's, I, I haven't done this in my, in my new playthrough yet, but I did it during

[02:03:33] the demo where there's this like me meadery that's been abandoned and you can go like take

[02:03:39] control of it and own your own meadery.

[02:03:43] Fuck.

[02:03:43] Yeah.

[02:03:44] Yeah.

[02:03:45] Fuck you.

[02:03:46] My own meadery.

[02:03:46] I'm excited.

[02:03:47] No, I want to play it.

[02:03:49] I've, I've heard people talking about this thing saying that like, if you loved Stardew

[02:03:55] Valley, this is like the next thing that's got people's attention.

[02:04:01] Yeah.

[02:04:02] It's, it's inspired by Stardew and fable.

[02:04:07] So hell yeah.

[02:04:09] Yeah, definitely.

[02:04:10] Sounds really cool.

[02:04:11] Uh, yeah.

[02:04:12] I need to play some more.

[02:04:13] I, I, I'm definitely gonna, uh, lose myself, uh, put a lot of hours into it.

[02:04:21] That's totally fine.

[02:04:23] As long as you're having fun.

[02:04:24] Yeah.

[02:04:25] It's not a waste of time.

[02:04:26] Yeah, exactly.

[02:04:28] Hell yeah.

[02:04:29] Aaron, what you got?

[02:04:30] Okay.

[02:04:31] So in the, in the super pod discord server, we have the super pods, super pod game club,

[02:04:37] where we, uh, pick a different game each month.

[02:04:40] Then we play through it.

[02:04:41] Whoever beats the game first gets to pick the game for the next month.

[02:04:45] Oh, that's fun.

[02:04:46] At the end of the month, we'll write a blog for, for the super pod website.

[02:04:49] Uh, this month, Tony picked binary domain.

[02:04:52] And at first, like, I thought this was just like a bland, generic fucking third person shooter on the 360 PS3, all that shit.

[02:05:02] But oh my God.

[02:05:03] It's developed by Ryuga, uh, Ryuga Gotoku studios who does Yakuza and all that shit published by Sega.

[02:05:11] Dude, it is so fucking sweet.

[02:05:15] Wow.

[02:05:15] The, um, the cover system isn't as like, it's not as like natural feeling as say Gears of War or something, but it still feels great to play it.

[02:05:24] The shooting is awesome.

[02:05:26] Basically, you, you, it's this, um, futuristic world, like almost kind of post-apocalyptic.

[02:05:32] Like the, the water levels have risen a whole bunch because of humanity doing something.

[02:05:38] I don't know.

[02:05:39] And then basically like, um, humanity has built, has built above where the water is and all that.

[02:05:45] Like this water world almost with robots.

[02:05:48] Yeah.

[02:05:49] With robots.

[02:05:50] Yeah.

[02:05:50] That's another thing to, uh, humanity relies heavily on robots to help rebuild everything.

[02:05:55] But then there's also what are called, uh, Oh, what is it?

[02:05:59] It's like, it's a hidden child where it's like, it's a robot disguised as a human, but they don't know they're a robot and they're living amongst humans.

[02:06:10] And like, occasionally they'll find out that there are robots somehow by like, you know, getting a cut or like, and then they'll freak out and kill people.

[02:06:18] It's, it's wild.

[02:06:19] But dude, I think the biggest realization for me here hearing about this game right now is that it's by the same people that made Yakuza.

[02:06:26] I didn't know that.

[02:06:27] Yeah.

[02:06:28] Now I'm like, it shows I'm 110% more interested now.

[02:06:32] It shows because like the story is there's so, it's so fucking in depth and so good.

[02:06:38] It's so interesting.

[02:06:39] The characters are all really cool and well-written.

[02:06:42] It's each character.

[02:06:44] It's basically like Yakuza seven.

[02:06:46] If it was a third person shooter in a post-apocalyptic world, but yeah, each character, each character, there's like maybe there's like eight characters total.

[02:06:55] Uh, each character is like a different class.

[02:06:57] They can use different weapons and they, they excel at different things.

[02:07:00] Like you get Faye who's a marksman or like a sniper.

[02:07:04] Pretty much.

[02:07:05] You get big Bo who is just this big bulky guy who has like a heavy assault rifle and shit.

[02:07:13] And you build relationships with your relationships with your teammates during conversations and helping them out with, you know, during combat.

[02:07:21] Are you playing on PC?

[02:07:23] No, I'm a, uh, series X.

[02:07:25] I think this game is on PC.

[02:07:27] Oh my God.

[02:07:27] If this game is on PC, I wonder if there's a mod where they were, there's gotta be entire game with all.

[02:07:32] Yeah.

[02:07:35] Dude.

[02:07:35] Yeah.

[02:07:35] Binary domain, dude.

[02:07:36] It's awesome.

[02:07:37] It's, it's blown away.

[02:07:39] My expectations were like, so here's the scale.

[02:07:42] My expectations were at like the maybe bottom, maybe up here, but it's just demolished them.

[02:07:49] 14 chimps out of 10.

[02:07:52] Looks sick.

[02:07:53] Cool.

[02:07:54] So I got one for you that is on steam by the way.

[02:07:57] It is on steam.

[02:07:58] I know.

[02:07:58] I did see that.

[02:07:59] Okay.

[02:08:00] Um, so this might shock you a little bit, but Xbox 360 is a retro console.

[02:08:09] Yeah.

[02:08:10] Yeah.

[02:08:11] Okay.

[02:08:11] Let that sink in, let that sink in and then watch us all just get reduced to fucking dust.

[02:08:17] Um, so over the weekend and went over to a friend's place and we were throwing some stuff

[02:08:23] on, of course we played a whole bunch of UFO 50, which I'm still going to demand every single

[02:08:28] listener of this show to buy UFO 50.

[02:08:30] There's something in there for everybody.

[02:08:32] Including you too.

[02:08:33] It looks so sick.

[02:08:36] I got, I got the last time I recorded both of the guests by the end of it had the game

[02:08:42] in their fucking steam, like shopping cart.

[02:08:46] Including me.

[02:08:46] And one of them was like, and it's bought.

[02:08:48] Um, but if you want to, you know, I don't remember when that was, but I definitely went

[02:08:55] on a, got up on a soapbox and was like, all right, listen up.

[02:08:59] Everybody better be buying this game.

[02:09:01] Um, however, amongst our time playing some UFO 50 stuff, he was like, Hey man, let's throw

[02:09:08] on some three 60 stuff.

[02:09:09] And I was like, I'll tell you what, man.

[02:09:13] I want you to throw on this game right here.

[02:09:18] What is it?

[02:09:19] Because this is a, this to me was kind of not well received at the time.

[02:09:26] In some cases, some, some outlets liked it a lot more.

[02:09:31] Alien versus predator blew my fucking mind when it came out on three 60.

[02:09:36] Huh?

[02:09:37] I don't know if I played the three 60.

[02:09:40] It is, it kind of like, it's a really hard of the arcade game.

[02:09:45] Oh no, no, no, no.

[02:09:48] It's yeah.

[02:09:49] That game is good.

[02:09:50] This game is like, it's kind of like a remake of the, like the 1999 or 2000, whenever that

[02:09:57] one came up for PC.

[02:09:59] So you'd like, you can play as a Xenomorph.

[02:10:01] You can play as predator.

[02:10:02] You can play as the Marines.

[02:10:05] And each campaign has you playing as one of the three.

[02:10:09] So we threw on like the Marines campaign and we, the weekend before that just watched alien

[02:10:16] Romulus.

[02:10:17] And that movie was fantastic top to bottom.

[02:10:21] And as we're playing this game, we were both like, you know what?

[02:10:24] This game fucking kicks ass.

[02:10:26] Like it, the, like it's 30 frames per second on, on three 60, but whatever you kind of adjust

[02:10:33] to it after a bit.

[02:10:34] But like, I've remembered the visuals really blowing my mind at the time, like the lighting

[02:10:41] and stuff and like, even just like the muzzle flare from your gun, like lighting up as you're

[02:10:46] like panicking, trying to shoot Xenomorphs that are like crawling on top of the ceiling

[02:10:50] and like dropping down and diving at you and shit.

[02:10:53] It really, really like has the vibe of the aliens movie.

[02:11:00] The second one, like the actiony one, it has that lockdown and it was a lot of fun.

[02:11:06] And I feel like the more I've been going back and playing some of these games that were

[02:11:11] just like very mid reviews back in the day, I'm finding things about them that I'm like,

[02:11:18] you know what?

[02:11:19] I'm not actually the things that they shit on about this.

[02:11:21] I actually like a lot.

[02:11:23] For sure.

[02:11:25] And like, you know, I, I feel like the only thing I don't like about that era of games

[02:11:29] is the piss filter whenever you just like has that piss filter on.

[02:11:33] And like, it's like Brent, like Brown games just being like, like, it just looks like

[02:11:38] you have a fucking smoke screen of dirt over your game.

[02:11:43] Yeah.

[02:11:44] But this game is not like, it does have some of that a little bit, but like when you're

[02:11:48] inside and it's like, you know, all the metal walls and stuff and like, you know, you got

[02:11:56] like the alien hive is just like fucking attached to it.

[02:12:00] It really did a good job on that stuff.

[02:12:03] And yeah, it's just a, it's just a, a run and gun kind of thing.

[02:12:06] Like, but I don't know.

[02:12:09] Like I just have a, I'm starting to feel like I have a nostalgia for that type of game.

[02:12:14] That's like, I can just turn my brain off and just enjoy it.

[02:12:18] I think that's why I, that's why I clicked binary domain so much.

[02:12:22] Cause you just tap a to hide behind a wall and just fucking shoot.

[02:12:26] And it's a good time.

[02:12:28] And like, I recently played, um, well, Greg and I beat the new space marine game, which

[02:12:34] was really, really good.

[02:12:36] But he wanted me to play the first one first, the one that came in like 2010 or 2011, whenever

[02:12:41] that was.

[02:12:42] And like, I had such a good time with that game and it is like a fucking Xbox 360 ass game

[02:12:48] too.

[02:12:49] Like it is very much just like, I don't know.

[02:12:54] There's not a lot of depth there, but it's super fun.

[02:12:57] Like it was just a fun game to play.

[02:12:59] So alien versus predator is definitely among that whole thing.

[02:13:02] It's just a turn your brain off kind of thing and just roll with it.

[02:13:06] Especially if you like the franchise.

[02:13:07] I think it's, I think it's really cool.

[02:13:09] We both do.

[02:13:09] That's a strong, that's a, that's a good wreck for both of us.

[02:13:13] Yes.

[02:13:13] And it's backwards compatible on Xbox too.

[02:13:15] I think it has, I think I saw that it said it had FPS boost as well too, which is super

[02:13:20] fucking sweet.

[02:13:20] Oh really?

[02:13:21] Nice.

[02:13:21] Nice.

[02:13:22] Yeah.

[02:13:22] That would be, that would be fantastic.

[02:13:24] Cause the, the 30 frames per second really was the only thing that bugged me at first.

[02:13:28] And I mean, my eyes got used to it after a bit.

[02:13:31] I'm pretty sure this game is on Steam as well.

[02:13:36] Like if you do have a PC, this is, that's, that's probably the best way to play it.

[02:13:43] Yeah.

[02:13:44] 16 Canadian dollar reviews.

[02:13:47] Dollar reviews.

[02:13:49] On Steam.

[02:13:51] So yeah, it's cheap and it's a lot of fun.

[02:13:56] Hell.

[02:13:56] Just a ton of fun.

[02:13:57] Nice.

[02:13:58] Yeah.

[02:14:15] And that's it.

[02:14:16] That's all.

[02:14:17] That's, that's it.

[02:14:17] That's everything.

[02:14:18] That's, that's all we have to give you.

[02:14:21] Yep.

[02:14:21] That's everybody.

[02:14:22] Listeners.

[02:14:23] That is a, that's the end of the show.

[02:15:12] Anyway, listeners.

[02:15:12] Yep.

[02:15:12] That is it.

[02:15:13] That's the end of the show.
