[00:00:00] Dude, have they ever done a Shrek anime or like Shrek OVA? I've seen like the Spongebob like anime openings.

[00:00:10] Imagine the Attack on Titan opening but like for Shrek... Sorry, Jared.

[00:00:15] But for Shrek 2. Shrek, Shrek, Shrek.

[00:00:20] Shrek already had some freaking iconic scenes.

[00:00:24] Oh, absolutely. Shrek 2 also...

[00:00:26] I need a hero. Fairy icon.

[00:00:27] The sacrifice of Big Gingerbread Man.

[00:00:32] Of Big Gingerbread Man. Oh, that's right.

[00:00:35] Oh boy.

[00:00:37] Keifer, welcome to the show. We're not starting the show yet. I'm just saying welcome to the show, man.

[00:00:42] It's just me.

[00:00:44] It's just me.

[00:00:46] Chocolate! Chocolate!

[00:00:50] What adoo, everybody. My name's Aaron. Guns don't kill people. I kill people with guns.

[00:00:56] And you're listening to SuperPod Saga.

[00:01:09] Welcome back to SuperPod Saga, everybody. The greatest collaboration of all time.

[00:01:14] Unfortunately, one half of that collaboration, Jerry can't make it to this one.

[00:01:18] Number one, because he doesn't know anything about Pokemon, nor does he give a shit.

[00:01:22] Number two, he's working on some awesome anti-game of the year stuff for Super Ghost Radio.

[00:01:27] But in his stead, we've got one of his pals. We've got Beth with us. Hello, Beth.

[00:01:33] Hello, hello. I was sent on a mission here to... Jerry's gave me no direction.

[00:01:40] So actually, I don't know what.

[00:01:42] And confession, I actually never played Emeralds.

[00:01:46] But I've played all the other stuff around it.

[00:01:50] So including, you know, both Ruby and Sapphire and Aorus.

[00:01:55] And I've watched a lot of speedruns of Emeralds.

[00:01:58] And a lot of ROM hacks of Emeralds.

[00:02:00] But...

[00:02:02] So I got that information.

[00:02:04] That's good.

[00:02:05] As long as you've played Ruby and Sapphire or Aorus for that matter,

[00:02:08] we'll fill you in on the rest here.

[00:02:10] But yeah, so we're talking about Pokemon Emerald today.

[00:02:13] First, yeah, let's introduce the guests.

[00:02:15] Beth, we've already introduced you.

[00:02:17] Go ahead and plug your show or anything else that you do.

[00:02:20] Go run on ahead.

[00:02:22] Yeah, I just do Super Ghost Radio with Jerry and our other friend Greg,

[00:02:27] where we kind of just yap at each other about what we've been doing.

[00:02:33] Usually involving video games.

[00:02:35] But it's a stupid time.

[00:02:37] And if you want to have a silly, stupid time, go listen to us over there.

[00:02:43] I don't know.

[00:02:43] We're on...

[00:02:44] Jerry knows all the stuff we're on.

[00:02:45] But I know that you can find us on most places where Spotify...

[00:02:49] Like, you know, where you get your Spotify, your Apple music.

[00:02:51] Your Spotify?

[00:02:52] I don't know.

[00:02:53] Your Spotify, your Apple music.

[00:02:55] We're not on YouTube yet.

[00:02:58] But, you know, we're trying.

[00:02:59] I appreciate the Italian accent too.

[00:03:02] Thank you very much.

[00:03:04] Thank you.

[00:03:05] Thank you.

[00:03:05] Up next, we've got a brand new face to the show.

[00:03:09] Hello, Kiefer.

[00:03:10] Hi, I'm Kiefer.

[00:03:12] I'm the host of Select and Start, a video game podcast where I interview guests about

[00:03:16] their most meaningful and memorable video game experiences.

[00:03:19] I have played Pokemon Emerald before.

[00:03:21] I actually covered Pokemon Emerald on like my 12th episode of the show.

[00:03:24] I did it with my best friend and roommate and the artist for the show, Avery Robin Ott.

[00:03:29] So we talked about Pokemon Emerald at length.

[00:03:31] So I'm very well equipped to talk about all things Pokemon, specifically Emerald, in this episode.

[00:03:35] You can listen to Select and Start wherever you like to listen to your podcasts, streaming

[00:03:40] service, and physical location.

[00:03:42] If you want to listen to them in the shower, that's your prerogative.

[00:03:45] But as long as you're doing it in one of the approved streaming services where you can

[00:03:48] listen to podcasts, that's perfectly fine.

[00:03:49] But yeah, that's Select and Start, a podcast about meaningful and memorable video games.

[00:03:53] I only listen to my podcasts in the showers.

[00:03:55] Please.

[00:03:55] Hell yeah.

[00:03:56] That's a good shout.

[00:03:56] I'm glad you shouted that out for me.

[00:03:57] Please make sure you're putting your phone in a Ziploc bag before you go listen to it

[00:04:01] in the shower.

[00:04:01] Otherwise, it will corrode your charger port.

[00:04:03] I swear to God.

[00:04:06] I got a Ziploc.

[00:04:07] That sounded a little personal, Eric.

[00:04:09] Yeah.

[00:04:09] Someone knows.

[00:04:12] Our 12-year-old brings his phone with him in the bathroom when he takes a shower all

[00:04:16] the time.

[00:04:17] And like, I don't want to pay for another phone, dude.

[00:04:20] Totally fair.

[00:04:21] And next up, we have Jared from Playalong Podcast.

[00:04:25] Hello.

[00:04:26] Hey, man.

[00:04:26] Thanks for having me on for more Pokemon stuff.

[00:04:28] It seems that that's the Pokemon.

[00:04:30] The new Pokemon.

[00:04:33] It seems to be that that's why I come on here, which I am happy to because I love Pokemon.

[00:04:38] And Emerald, too.

[00:04:39] Emerald's probably one of my favorites, if not my favorite Pokemon game.

[00:04:42] So I love this.

[00:04:44] And I mean, the trumpets.

[00:04:45] We'll probably talk about trumpets eventually.

[00:04:47] But the music is so damn good in this game.

[00:04:49] It's great.

[00:04:49] But yeah, I'm one of the hosts on Playalong Podcast, a podcast where we play through games

[00:04:53] in kind of a book club format.

[00:04:55] What we do is myself and my three other co-hosts will take turns picking a game.

[00:04:59] We then break the game down into sections and come together every other week to talk about

[00:05:03] those sections specifically.

[00:05:04] So we spend about a month or two breaking down a game, talking about all its very specific

[00:05:09] parts and minute details.

[00:05:11] If you like Pokemon stuff, at the beginning of this year, we did a Pokemon Omega Ruby and

[00:05:16] Alpha Sapphire Nuzlocke, a randomized Nuzlocke.

[00:05:19] So we randomized the game and did a Nuzlocke on it, which is like a challenge run of the

[00:05:22] Pokemon games, which was a ton of fun.

[00:05:25] But we do everything from like retro titles to brand new releases.

[00:05:28] Myself and my other two co-hosts all have a very wide range of games that we like.

[00:05:34] So we cover a wide variety of things, too.

[00:05:36] But yeah.

[00:05:37] Nice.

[00:05:38] Nice.

[00:05:39] And I'll have you know, we brought you on for the Wii U.

[00:05:42] So it wasn't all Pokemon.

[00:05:43] Thank you very much.

[00:05:44] Oh, that's right.

[00:05:45] You're right.

[00:05:45] You're right.

[00:05:45] You're right.

[00:05:46] You're right.

[00:05:47] Nintendo adjacent.

[00:05:48] Oh, there we go.

[00:05:48] I'm the resident Nintendo guy on my podcast.

[00:05:51] The Nantanda guy.

[00:05:52] Okay.

[00:05:53] The Nantanda guy.

[00:05:54] That's me.

[00:05:55] PokeTermint was on the Wii U.

[00:05:57] I mean, come on.

[00:05:57] Oh, shit.

[00:05:57] There you go.

[00:05:58] There was one Pokemon game on there.

[00:06:01] Can't forget the most importance.

[00:06:04] Hey, Pokemon tournament was good, though.

[00:06:06] I did like Pokemon tournament.

[00:06:08] Pokemon tournament was fun.

[00:06:09] Especially when they brought all the...

[00:06:11] Especially when they brought it to Switch with the cool DLC characters like Blastoise.

[00:06:15] Like Blastoise.

[00:06:15] Where you can go into the shell and then just spin like a Beyblade at people.

[00:06:18] It's pretty cool.

[00:06:19] That man's model is wild.

[00:06:21] He is posted up in that game.

[00:06:23] He is so tall.

[00:06:24] He has the best posture.

[00:06:26] It's insane.

[00:06:27] Hell yeah.

[00:06:27] Speaking of Pokemon.

[00:06:30] Before we get to the Pokemon, though, we have to ask our guests.

[00:06:33] Ask a little question.

[00:06:34] Get to know them all a little better.

[00:06:36] So, I don't know if you've answered this yet, Beth, or not.

[00:06:39] But for all of you, though, what's your favorite video game memory?

[00:06:45] Anybody can start.

[00:06:47] I just...

[00:06:47] I had an answer, but I remembered something else as soon as you asked this question.

[00:06:51] I've been to the Nintendo store in New York.

[00:06:54] Ooh.

[00:06:55] That was really cool.

[00:06:55] I actually got to go there in person.

[00:06:57] It was like a lifelong...

[00:06:58] I wanted to go there as a kid.

[00:06:59] Like, when I was on Pokemon.com and it was still called the Pokemon Center.

[00:07:02] I was like, I have to go to this place.

[00:07:03] That's cool.

[00:07:04] It was like a big dream of mine to go there.

[00:07:06] Holy shit.

[00:07:06] And I went there in 2019 because I was in New York to go see The Strokes for a New Year's

[00:07:11] Eve show at Barclays.

[00:07:13] Nice.

[00:07:13] That's cool.

[00:07:13] So, like, I was going to turn around the day.

[00:07:15] I was like, oh, shit, we're in Manhattan.

[00:07:16] I know it's in Manhattan.

[00:07:18] And we found the Nintendo World Store.

[00:07:20] And they have the Gulf War Game Boy, if y'all know about that.

[00:07:25] Like, it's still in their turn on.

[00:07:26] The Gulf War Game Boy.

[00:07:27] Okay, yeah.

[00:07:27] The Gulf War?

[00:07:29] Okay.

[00:07:29] Yeah, like the Game Boy that survived a bombing during the Gulf War.

[00:07:34] That's right.

[00:07:35] Like, it's completely, like, melted entirely on the front.

[00:07:38] But, like, you can still put batteries in it.

[00:07:40] And they have, like, a charger attached to it.

[00:07:42] So, it can always turn on to confirm that, like, basically, Nintendo products are invincible.

[00:07:46] And that shit can still run Tetris.

[00:07:48] That's fair.

[00:07:49] Maybe put that in their marketing somewhere, because that would sell.

[00:07:52] Yeah.

[00:07:52] No.

[00:07:53] It's invincible.

[00:07:54] And that shit rolled.

[00:07:55] And it was just, you know, it was cool.

[00:07:57] I got to fulfill a lifelong dream a few years ago.

[00:07:59] And that was really nice.

[00:08:00] I have not been, but I feel like I would just, I need to, like, have a separate budget

[00:08:04] wherever I travel to for the Nintendo store, because I would just go crazy at that store.

[00:08:09] Yeah.

[00:08:10] Yeah, that's hard.

[00:08:11] I guess for me, one of the ones I love, because they don't do this anymore, on top

[00:08:14] of a Pokemon, I love Legend of Zelda.

[00:08:16] Zelda is probably a franchise that's very near and dear to my heart.

[00:08:19] And I got to go to the Zelda Symphony right before they stopped doing that.

[00:08:24] Shit.

[00:08:24] And being able to see, like, they have a big projector on the screen in the orchestra hall.

[00:08:31] And so they'll show gameplay of the games as they're playing them.

[00:08:34] But it's really cool to hear a lot of that beautiful music played in real time.

[00:08:39] And it's just a room full of, like, Zelda nerds.

[00:08:41] It was hilarious, because I, like, we were on the top and I looked down.

[00:08:44] And this was before the eShops and everything were shut down.

[00:08:47] But everyone had their 3DSs open.

[00:08:49] And they were, like, doing StreetPass and everything.

[00:08:51] It was just such a cool moment that, like, we don't get anymore.

[00:08:54] Like, StreetPass and all that.

[00:08:56] So that was fun.

[00:08:57] That's one that was really memorable for me.

[00:08:58] Fuck.

[00:08:59] Bring it back, man.

[00:08:59] I want StreetPass back.

[00:09:01] I know.

[00:09:02] You want the Switch?

[00:09:02] The Switch is in people's pockets and bags anyways.

[00:09:05] Like, bring StreetPass back.

[00:09:07] Or maybe not pockets, by the way.

[00:09:09] My little puzzle collection thing was so fun.

[00:09:12] I live somewhere really small.

[00:09:15] So there wasn't a lot of StreetPass.

[00:09:17] But, like, when I went to, like, the big city, which is just St. John's, Newfoundland.

[00:09:22] Also still small.

[00:09:23] But I'd be like, I'd go to the mall just to, like, stand around the food court so I could get StreetPass.

[00:09:27] You just stand there, like, StreetPass?

[00:09:30] StreetPass, please.

[00:09:32] StreetPass.

[00:09:32] Spare play coins.

[00:09:34] I need a puzzle to complete.

[00:09:35] I need a puzzle to complete.

[00:09:38] I need coins for the fucking, what is it called?

[00:09:41] The badge arcade.

[00:09:42] Please.

[00:09:43] Yeah.

[00:09:43] And also, I love doing that boss rush thing or whatever.

[00:09:46] It was like, anyways, I liked all of this.

[00:09:48] Yeah.

[00:09:48] So it was cool seeing all of that and seeing, again, not only the music, but just, like, people on their DSs and StreetPass.

[00:09:55] And that was a very fun memory that I have.

[00:09:57] Nice.

[00:09:58] Yeah.

[00:09:58] I can't remember if I've answered this before.

[00:10:02] Go for it.

[00:10:03] You will now.

[00:10:04] I can do another specific one.

[00:10:06] I'll do a Pokemon, something a bit Pokemon specific.

[00:10:09] Because I don't think this was, if I did answer before, it wasn't this.

[00:10:13] But I remember getting, being obsessed with Pokemon.

[00:10:19] Like, one of my first memories is watching the Pokemon animated TV series.

[00:10:24] The episode with Magnemite, specifically for whatever reason.

[00:10:30] And I always spent time at my grandparents' place.

[00:10:33] So I was, like, just wanted to play, when I found out Pokemon was a game, I was like, what?

[00:10:39] What?

[00:10:40] What?

[00:10:40] This TV show?

[00:10:42] Is it a game?

[00:10:43] Hold on.

[00:10:43] Is it a game?

[00:10:44] That can happen?

[00:10:46] And I would, like, talk to my grandfather about it all the time.

[00:10:49] Um, and so we went on a vacation.

[00:10:53] And he got me, um, my Pokemon Game Boy Color, which was my first gaming console, you know,

[00:11:02] in hell.

[00:11:02] With Pokemon Blue in it.

[00:11:05] And I was playing that, and I played for years.

[00:11:08] And then when, um, the Game Boy Advance came out, we were just walking through Walmart.

[00:11:15] And I was like, oh my god.

[00:11:18] Pop!

[00:11:19] What is this?

[00:11:21] There's more?

[00:11:23] And then there was, and also then, and I saw Pokemon Sapphire, and I was like, this has

[00:11:30] to happen.

[00:11:31] Please pop pop.

[00:11:31] Like, I was like, I was like, pop, oh my god.

[00:11:34] And he was like, nah.

[00:11:36] He can't, he was like, nah, Elizabeth, I can't do that.

[00:11:39] It's too expensive.

[00:11:40] God, I can't do that.

[00:11:41] And, um, then I went home, and later on, um, like, that night, he had gone back to the

[00:11:49] store to get me the Advance.

[00:11:51] Oh, that's awesome.

[00:11:52] Pokemon Sapphire.

[00:11:53] He had to ask Nan's permission first.

[00:11:55] Mm.

[00:11:55] Got a classic Grandpa Moo.

[00:11:57] Once when he had Nan's permission.

[00:11:59] Classic Grandpa Moo.

[00:12:00] Got a classic.

[00:12:01] Once when he had Nan's permission to spend her money, he got it so he could get the credit

[00:12:06] and gave it to me.

[00:12:07] So, that's my Pokemon memories with my pops.

[00:12:11] Those cards were big, too, because I feel like they always would draw us in because of

[00:12:15] them being, like, the translucent blues and reds and greens with emeralds.

[00:12:19] So, I remember seeing them, like, in shops and being like, oh, that one's cool because

[00:12:23] it's a different color.

[00:12:24] So obsessed.

[00:12:25] I was like, I was, I only played Pokemon for years.

[00:12:29] Yeah.

[00:12:30] I kind of wish.

[00:12:31] Still do.

[00:12:31] I wish they would do that with discs.

[00:12:33] Like, make them translucent green or something.

[00:12:36] Yeah.

[00:12:37] Make them orange like the Rugrats movie VHS.

[00:12:40] The Rugrats movie and VHS tapes.

[00:12:42] Yeah.

[00:12:43] The 90s, like, see-through purple.

[00:12:44] Yes.

[00:12:45] Fuck.

[00:12:46] Bring back Atomic Purple, dude.

[00:12:48] Come on.

[00:12:49] Yeah.

[00:12:49] Yeah.

[00:12:50] Like, the only thing I ever see, like, gimmicks for that anymore is, like, I collect vinyl.

[00:12:53] Ooh.

[00:12:54] Yeah.

[00:12:54] Yep.

[00:12:55] A lot of, like, multicolored vinyls.

[00:12:56] There's, like, a horror vinyl that has, like, fake blood inside of it that, like, moves

[00:13:00] when you, like, it spins.

[00:13:01] That's super sick.

[00:13:01] That's dope.

[00:13:02] They have, like, some incredible Imagineers going on over there with vinyl, and I think

[00:13:06] that we need to do that more physically.

[00:13:07] We need to bring them to the gaming realm and have them over here.

[00:13:11] Get a Wii U.

[00:13:12] You can run.

[00:13:13] One should do stuff like that.

[00:13:14] Oh, and a translucent Wii U that has, like, blood in it, and you can just, like, shake

[00:13:18] it like a natural sketch.

[00:13:20] Yeah, we release the Wii U right now and do that.

[00:13:22] Yeah, that's why we need it.

[00:13:25] Bring it.

[00:13:26] We're bringing it back, everybody.

[00:13:28] Or it's one of those ghost face masks as a kid where the blood would pump through it.

[00:13:32] Oh, yeah.

[00:13:32] So you just do that with your Wii U.

[00:13:34] Oh, my God.

[00:13:34] My little brother had one of them.

[00:13:36] It's so stupid.

[00:13:38] So dumb.

[00:13:40] Speaking of dumb, though.

[00:13:46] No, I guess that doesn't transition very well.

[00:13:48] Whatever.

[00:13:48] Super important breaking news.

[00:13:50] There's only one piece of news today, because it's just me.

[00:13:53] Jerry's dead.

[00:13:55] He survived the surgery.

[00:13:57] That's true.

[00:13:57] Yeah, we've done a couple episodes.

[00:13:59] He's not dead.

[00:13:59] I'm just goofing.

[00:14:01] He's fine.

[00:14:01] He's still around.

[00:14:03] He's still kicking.

[00:14:04] Inshallah.

[00:14:04] He's alive.

[00:14:05] He's alive.

[00:14:06] He's doing well.

[00:14:07] He's really busy.

[00:14:09] Anyway, though, so news, CD Romance, the translation.

[00:14:12] Pan translation website that I love so fucking much.

[00:14:16] They're no longer posting on that site anymore.

[00:14:20] No new fan translations, unfortunately, due to all the shit that's going on with Rom websites

[00:14:27] getting shut down and hit with Ds and Cs.

[00:14:29] So sad.

[00:14:30] Or Cs and Ds.

[00:14:31] Yeah, my bad.

[00:14:32] But yeah, you can still go there and download what they have now.

[00:14:36] And you can still help out the community and make donations and shit like that.

[00:14:39] That's cool.

[00:14:40] But no more new translations.

[00:14:42] Video game preservation is important.

[00:14:43] Yep.

[00:14:44] Absolutely.

[00:14:45] That shit's important.

[00:14:46] A lot of games are just lost because of that.

[00:14:49] That's something I talk about a lot in Select and Start every episode.

[00:14:51] We talk about these video games that mean so much to us.

[00:14:54] And I always have to dedicate a section, how can you play this?

[00:14:56] And a lot of the time, the answer is legally you can't.

[00:14:59] But legally, not anymore.

[00:15:01] Emulation is your only option.

[00:15:03] And like you said, with sites like this going down, a lot of these games are just lost.

[00:15:07] Because like you said, there's no physical way to buy them unless you're paying extreme large amounts of money to buy original hardware and everything, which is just ridiculous.

[00:15:15] It's crazy.

[00:15:16] Yeah.

[00:15:16] Yeah, man.

[00:15:17] There's no good reason why we can't have, especially with translations of games that were only released in Japan.

[00:15:24] Like there's so many really, really good ones that haven't gotten official translations that we should have the option to just have somebody translate it for.

[00:15:31] Like that's the only way we'll ever be able to play Mother 3.

[00:15:34] Yeah.

[00:15:34] Or what's.

[00:15:36] And just like that.

[00:15:36] I imagine that shit's expensive and people are going out of their way.

[00:15:39] It's not like you do it for you.

[00:15:41] Just like let it go.

[00:15:42] Let it live.

[00:15:42] Come on, Nantanda.

[00:15:44] Yeah, Nantanda.

[00:15:46] I love the, I play like the Trails series.

[00:15:49] And for a really long time, Azure and Zero were not translated into English officially.

[00:15:56] And so if you wanted to find out, you had to do fan translations.

[00:16:00] And like, thankfully, they finally did them.

[00:16:02] But it's super expensive.

[00:16:04] And also, this is such a long series with such a like, and it's a small budgeted studio that's doing it.

[00:16:10] So I'm like constantly living, this slightly dramatic, constantly living with the fear that I'm not going to get the end conclusion to this like 20 video game story because they're just not going to give it to us in English.

[00:16:25] Because it's, they run out of money because they spend their money.

[00:16:29] It's not super popular, but I love it.

[00:16:31] It's good.

[00:16:31] And you need stuff like this if you're, if like the companies can't really afford it.

[00:16:36] But they're getting a little bit better at that.

[00:16:38] Like the Ys series, they've been really good about bringing them at least to PC.

[00:16:42] Like, I think all except for five are on PC.

[00:16:46] Yeah, yeah.

[00:16:47] And I love them.

[00:16:48] Stress me out.

[00:16:51] Well, yeah, that's the news.

[00:16:53] That's it.

[00:16:54] There's no more news.

[00:16:55] Nothing else has happened in the world.

[00:16:56] I'm sure shit has happened with the game of the year stuff.

[00:17:00] Or is that later this week?

[00:17:01] I don't know.

[00:17:02] That's Thursday.

[00:17:03] As of recording.

[00:17:04] Shit.

[00:17:05] Okay.

[00:17:05] There's probably more news.

[00:17:20] Anyway, the topic.

[00:17:22] We're talking about Pokemon.

[00:17:23] Pokemon Emerald.

[00:17:24] Pokemon.

[00:17:25] Pokemans.

[00:17:26] That's, yeah.

[00:17:27] Pokemans.

[00:17:29] Get a Texas Hold'em Pokemon.

[00:17:31] Texas Hold'em Pokemon.

[00:17:33] Pokeman?

[00:17:34] Pokeman.

[00:17:35] Yeah, why?

[00:17:36] They let you play like slots and roulettes, but they won't let you play fucking poker.

[00:17:40] No, do they have, have they ever had blackjack in the Pokemon casinos?

[00:17:44] I don't know.

[00:17:45] I think it's just, I think it's just slots.

[00:17:46] Yeah.

[00:17:47] And even now they don't have that anymore.

[00:17:48] Yeah.

[00:17:48] Because like, there's like strict laws in certain countries about depictions of gambling and video games.

[00:17:53] Like they just took all that shit out.

[00:17:54] Damn.

[00:17:55] In the remakes and everything.

[00:17:56] It's really fun.

[00:17:57] It's really fun though.

[00:17:57] I love gambling.

[00:17:59] It's not recent on my game.

[00:17:59] I want to win a pincer.

[00:18:01] I lost my life savings on Porygon, damn it.

[00:18:04] Jeez.

[00:18:04] I just did recently a run of playing through like red and blue and yellow over again.

[00:18:09] Yeah.

[00:18:09] And just like, I did yellow and I did a mononormal type run.

[00:18:13] So I was just only using normal types.

[00:18:14] And I was like, oh, I'll use Porygon.

[00:18:16] Porygon.

[00:18:17] Almost impossible to get with how much money Porygon is in the game corner.

[00:18:22] Crazy.

[00:18:23] Crazy.

[00:18:23] But the music in the game corner.

[00:18:26] The music does slap.

[00:18:26] The music goes pretty hard.

[00:18:27] I like that they changed the name to the game corner instead of the casino.

[00:18:32] Yeah.

[00:18:32] Yeah.

[00:18:34] Come on down to the game corner.

[00:18:35] Come on down to the Porygon Opium Hut.

[00:18:39] We got games and Porygons.

[00:18:43] Anyway.

[00:18:43] The Blackjack and Crackton.

[00:18:45] The Pokemon Blackjack and Crackton.

[00:18:49] Oh, shit, man.

[00:18:50] Oh, man.

[00:18:51] It's a Pokemon Emerald, right?

[00:18:53] Released for the Game Boy Advance in 2000.

[00:18:55] It was the final entry in the third gen.

[00:18:58] And essentially just combining bits and bobs of Ruby and Sapphire together in one awesome

[00:19:04] translucent green cartridge.

[00:19:05] It's got cartridge.

[00:19:07] Beautiful.

[00:19:07] God damn it.

[00:19:08] It's beautiful.

[00:19:09] Yep.

[00:19:10] So let's start with our favorite memories or parts of the game.

[00:19:16] Who's got cool stuff to talk about?

[00:19:18] Or cool stuff about the game to talk about?

[00:19:21] There we go.

[00:19:22] Sorry.

[00:19:23] I mean, just memories around the game.

[00:19:25] I remember going on a lot of road trips with my co-host, Kai.

[00:19:28] And us just playing so much Pokemon Emerald in the back seat of the car.

[00:19:33] Just so much.

[00:19:34] I'm surprised I didn't get more like carsick just staring at a Game Boy Advance in the back

[00:19:37] of a car for so long.

[00:19:39] But just like...

[00:19:40] Resilient.

[00:19:41] Exactly.

[00:19:41] We were really resilient.

[00:19:42] But just like so many memories of being in the back of a car and doing road trips

[00:19:45] and playing through Emerald so many times.

[00:19:49] It could have been just because this was maybe the only Pokemon game that I had at the time.

[00:19:54] I must have had like FireRed or LeafGreen or something.

[00:19:56] I don't know.

[00:19:56] But I played a lot of Emerald.

[00:19:57] Emerald was on repeat so many times as a kid when this came out.

[00:20:01] Hell yeah.

[00:20:01] Yeah.

[00:20:01] Yeah.

[00:20:02] For me, I mean, huge Pokemon kid.

[00:20:05] Grew up with it.

[00:20:05] Watched the anime.

[00:20:07] I remember my brothers had the first two gen games.

[00:20:10] But Pokemon Sapphire I got on my seventh birthday.

[00:20:13] And that was like my first Pokemon game of my own.

[00:20:16] And then, you know, heavily invested after that.

[00:20:19] I get FireRed and LeafGreen.

[00:20:20] I get Ruby later on.

[00:20:22] And I get Emerald.

[00:20:23] I think that's on my 10th birthday because it was 2006.

[00:20:26] But the game came out in 2005 in America.

[00:20:28] But this was like, you know, I played Ruby.

[00:20:32] I had played Sapphire.

[00:20:33] And now I had like a place where I could like collectively like use as like my main den for the rest of this generation.

[00:20:39] Where I could like, basically it's like, oh, I could finally press new game on the other ones.

[00:20:43] And then this can be like the hub.

[00:20:47] This is the hub for everything because I love the Hoenn region so much.

[00:20:49] I mean, obviously like FireRed and LeafGreen are amazing and wonderful.

[00:20:53] But there's just like something that's like so specific to the Game Boy Advance with that generation.

[00:20:58] Yeah.

[00:20:59] Like aesthetic sonically and everything like that.

[00:21:01] So I just think like to me that is the Pokemon game because it's the one that I grew up with and like cultivated and built up with like my other games.

[00:21:08] Yeah.

[00:21:08] I did that same thing.

[00:21:09] It's funny because I actually played Emerald first.

[00:21:11] I didn't play Ruby and Sapphire until much later.

[00:21:14] Red and blue?

[00:21:15] Those are colors, not games.

[00:21:18] Gross.

[00:21:18] Gross.

[00:21:20] I don't know what those are.

[00:21:21] Yeah.

[00:21:21] I played Emerald way before I played Ruby and Sapphire.

[00:21:24] And so going back and playing Ruby and Sapphire was interesting because I was like, oh my God, I didn't realize how different the narratives are between those games.

[00:21:31] I was like, oh, this is kind of cool.

[00:21:32] This is wild.

[00:21:33] Oh, yeah.

[00:21:33] And Beth, you haven't played Emerald.

[00:21:36] So go ahead.

[00:21:36] I mean, you can talk about Ruby and Sapphire if you want.

[00:21:39] They're essentially the same.

[00:21:41] Well, I mean, I can definitely remember like pressing my face up to the glass at like, once again,

[00:21:48] small town, small town, we only had a Walmart.

[00:21:50] I feel that.

[00:21:50] That's where all the games were.

[00:21:52] And the Walmart thing.

[00:21:54] Yeah.

[00:21:55] Being like, wow.

[00:21:57] Please, Papa.

[00:21:57] I really would like that Pokemon.

[00:21:59] Yeah.

[00:21:59] Like being Rayquaza.

[00:22:01] But yeah, no.

[00:22:03] I got too many things that I wanted.

[00:22:05] And by the time Emerald came out, I had a little brother.

[00:22:08] So it wasn't so easy to get everything I wanted.

[00:22:11] But I do.

[00:22:12] I remember that.

[00:22:14] And then I guess like in Sapphire being a little silly kid, I got stuck at the.

[00:22:22] Oh, yeah.

[00:22:23] I can see that.

[00:22:24] I think I remember for a long time.

[00:22:28] And I was like, I'm not reading shit.

[00:22:30] I like I people.

[00:22:32] People are like, oh, you know, and this, you know, I'm pretty young at the time.

[00:22:36] And people like Pokemon's where you learn to read.

[00:22:38] I'm like, I mashed through everything.

[00:22:40] I didn't read what any words that were in Pokemon until I was older and I went back and played.

[00:22:46] I didn't know people talked in those games.

[00:22:49] There were just things to get through because I wanted my cute Pokemon.

[00:22:53] So I definitely remember the Kecleon and being quite annoyed.

[00:22:59] And like, where the fuck am I supposed to go?

[00:23:02] What am I doing?

[00:23:03] Just being frustrated.

[00:23:06] Hoenn is one, probably one of my least favorite generations.

[00:23:09] I want to say.

[00:23:10] I love them all.

[00:23:11] Aaron's like, oh, no.

[00:23:13] I know.

[00:23:13] The treat goes right there.

[00:23:15] But I.

[00:23:15] Cover us here, Skipper.

[00:23:17] On behalf.

[00:23:17] On behalf of.

[00:23:18] Don't listen.

[00:23:19] It's okay.

[00:23:20] On behalf of Greg, who is.

[00:23:22] The elusive Greg.

[00:23:24] Still alive.

[00:23:25] Yep.

[00:23:26] The elusive Greg, who is like, is alive.

[00:23:30] Gen 3 is his favorite and Emerald is his favorite.

[00:23:32] So he very much when we talk and stuff, he definitely champions the region a lot.

[00:23:40] And he holds it very dear to him.

[00:23:42] It's so I want to say that.

[00:23:45] That's fine.

[00:23:46] Even though, you know, Gen 2.

[00:23:48] Gen 2 is good.

[00:23:49] Gen 2 is good.

[00:23:50] That's respectable.

[00:23:51] Yeah.

[00:23:52] I mean, you know, that was like, you know, my thing.

[00:23:55] But I was.

[00:23:57] Yeah.

[00:23:57] I still was envious as hell.

[00:23:58] Green with envy.

[00:23:59] Green with Emerald envy.

[00:24:01] What I'd say.

[00:24:03] Because I did really want Rayquaza.

[00:24:05] Green with Emerald envy.

[00:24:07] Write that down.

[00:24:07] Write that down.

[00:24:10] No.

[00:24:11] But I mean, I mean, talking about like having Rayquaza on the front of that box, it was

[00:24:14] like that sold it for, I imagine, a lot of people.

[00:24:17] I mean, Kyogre and Groudon are cool, but just like big green, like dragon snake.

[00:24:21] Like, come on.

[00:24:21] How do you beat that?

[00:24:22] Yeah.

[00:24:24] Wanted it so bad.

[00:24:25] I was like, this is a cool.

[00:24:26] Up until that point, I was like, this is.

[00:24:28] Oh, absolutely.

[00:24:28] You're going to have ever seen it.

[00:24:30] As a kid, he reminded me of Shenron from DBZ.

[00:24:34] Oh, yeah.

[00:24:34] Yeah.

[00:24:35] Yeah.

[00:24:35] Absolutely.

[00:24:36] Yeah.

[00:24:36] And that book.

[00:24:36] That fucking sold me.

[00:24:37] I used to watch Dragon Ball Z.

[00:24:39] Listeners, DBC is Dragon Ball Z.

[00:24:41] So I'm just, I'm making sure everybody knows.

[00:24:44] I used to.

[00:24:44] Got to make sure the acronyms are up.

[00:24:45] Also, Shenron is a great name for Rayquaza if you're going to name it.

[00:24:48] So like.

[00:24:49] Oh, yeah.

[00:24:49] For sure.

[00:24:50] Yes.

[00:24:50] Shenron is a great name.

[00:24:51] True, true.

[00:24:51] To your point, Beth, about like people learning how to read with Pokemon.

[00:24:55] Like I knew how to read at that point.

[00:24:56] I was in second grade when I got Sapphire and Sapphire.

[00:25:00] But I didn't read very well.

[00:25:03] And the professor in those generations is Birch.

[00:25:08] And I was a kid reading pixels on a Game Boy Advance.

[00:25:11] And I replaced the R with a T.

[00:25:13] Oh, no.

[00:25:13] When I read it out loud.

[00:25:15] Yes.

[00:25:15] I love Birch.

[00:25:17] Professor Birch.

[00:25:18] And that's when I learned.

[00:25:21] Because I said it very close to my father.

[00:25:23] I learned that that was a bad word that day.

[00:25:25] Oh, man.

[00:25:27] My child was not only.

[00:25:28] He's playing Emerald.

[00:25:29] So like you're already.

[00:25:30] You already won in my book, son.

[00:25:32] And then he's like says Professor Bitch randomly.

[00:25:33] Had been like.

[00:25:34] What?

[00:25:36] Kiefer Jimothy James.

[00:25:37] I said Professor Birch.

[00:25:38] Nah, he's that bitch.

[00:25:40] He's just like we're not going to play that right now.

[00:25:42] There are guests here.

[00:25:43] And we'll look at that later.

[00:25:44] These video games ruin the kids' minds.

[00:25:46] The tender.

[00:25:47] Professor.

[00:25:47] You're corrupting the children.

[00:25:49] Professor what now?

[00:25:50] He's sort of like a popcorn leghorn.

[00:25:52] Excuse me?

[00:25:54] No, I said it.

[00:25:55] Oh, my God.

[00:25:58] But everyone was chill with Jinx for a while.

[00:26:00] But you know, Professor Bitch is the.

[00:26:03] Oh, man.

[00:26:04] I didn't write the name.

[00:26:05] Yeah.

[00:26:06] It wasn't me.

[00:26:07] I was playing the game.

[00:26:08] Playing Nantanda.

[00:26:10] I like that.

[00:26:11] I like Professor Bitch.

[00:26:12] I mean, he's being chased around by Zingy.

[00:26:13] Or Poochiana.

[00:26:14] Come on.

[00:26:14] Let's be honest.

[00:26:15] Let's be real here.

[00:26:17] Yeah.

[00:26:18] And I think there's like.

[00:26:20] There's like in certain communities.

[00:26:21] There's this effort to like take the word bitch.

[00:26:23] And turn it into like a slay queen type thing.

[00:26:26] Oh, yes.

[00:26:28] Like I.

[00:26:31] That was my father's name.

[00:26:33] Please call me slay.

[00:26:35] Please.

[00:26:36] Please.

[00:26:37] Oh, my gosh.

[00:26:38] And thinking about like him in the anime.

[00:26:40] And he acted like.

[00:26:41] Oh, that would have been.

[00:26:42] That would have been hilarious.

[00:26:44] Pick your fucking.

[00:26:45] Yeah.

[00:26:45] Come on.

[00:26:46] There you go.

[00:26:47] Get it right.

[00:26:49] Oh, yeah.

[00:26:50] Pick your fucking starter.

[00:26:53] There's three of them.

[00:26:55] Yeah.

[00:26:57] Nido Queen.

[00:26:59] Queen.

[00:27:00] Yes.

[00:27:01] I love it.

[00:27:03] I need to see your manager hairdo.

[00:27:04] Nido Queen has to need to see your manager hairdo.

[00:27:07] Yeah.

[00:27:08] The fuck.

[00:27:09] I have so many memories of just staying at home either on snow days or I would like trick

[00:27:15] my mom into letting me stay home from school by telling her my little brother threw up and

[00:27:19] I would just play Pokemon Emerald all day.

[00:27:21] I'd be like, guess Jeremy threw up.

[00:27:25] I guess.

[00:27:25] I mean, you're already at work.

[00:27:26] So, like, I could stay home from school and take care of him.

[00:27:30] And she'd be like.

[00:27:31] Aaron is so responsible, man.

[00:27:32] He's just such a good kid.

[00:27:35] Leave it to all dependable Aaron.

[00:27:37] I don't know.

[00:27:38] Yeah.

[00:27:39] So, I did that all the time.

[00:27:41] And I'd constantly restart it.

[00:27:43] Once I got completely bored of it, I'd restart it and start a whole new playthrough.

[00:27:47] Give my Pokemon, like, new names.

[00:27:49] Try different party.

[00:27:51] Use ones I didn't use before.

[00:27:52] Like, Masquerain.

[00:27:53] Who's actually really fucking cool.

[00:27:55] Oh, Masquerain's great.

[00:27:57] Intimidate?

[00:27:57] Yeah.

[00:27:58] Yeah.

[00:27:58] That's crazy.

[00:27:58] On a bug type?

[00:28:00] On a bug?

[00:28:02] I was, like, the opposite.

[00:28:03] I was, like, Kiefer.

[00:28:05] I was, like, I had my, like, save.

[00:28:07] And I was, like, I don't want to, like, touch this.

[00:28:09] Like, this is, like, sacred.

[00:28:10] I can't, like, start a new game.

[00:28:12] I just play through the Battle Frontier again.

[00:28:14] Like, I can't do this.

[00:28:17] Oh.

[00:28:18] And when I finally discovered Action Replay, that shit was pretty sweet with them.

[00:28:23] Oh, I remember the Action Replay.

[00:28:24] I did a lot of Action Replay with, like, the DS games.

[00:28:27] But, oh, it was so fun.

[00:28:28] Dude.

[00:28:29] Yeah.

[00:28:29] In Emerald, if you complete the whole Pokedex, the Professor Bitch gave you a Gen 2 starter.

[00:28:37] Yeah, Gen 2 starter.

[00:28:39] Which being Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodial.

[00:28:43] But I was, like, dude, fuck that noise.

[00:28:46] Because there's so many legendaries I couldn't get.

[00:28:48] Because I live in rural-ass Iowa.

[00:28:50] I can't go to fucking New York City and get a Jirachi.

[00:28:53] Are you shitting me?

[00:28:54] Yeah.

[00:28:56] Yes!

[00:28:57] Oh, man.

[00:28:58] I remember when I figured out the walkthrough walls, like, thing for the first time.

[00:29:02] Oh.

[00:29:02] Oh.

[00:29:03] Magical.

[00:29:03] But it never fucked with that.

[00:29:05] That sounds cool, though.

[00:29:07] Yeah.

[00:29:07] It was wild.

[00:29:08] Emerald.

[00:29:09] I mean, I think...

[00:29:10] Was it Emerald?

[00:29:10] Or was it...

[00:29:11] I think Emerald, like, introduced a feature where you could actually, like, rebattle the gym

[00:29:14] leaders and stuff, too.

[00:29:15] So, like, you didn't really have a reason to start that save all over again.

[00:29:18] Like, they had that on your PokéMath.

[00:29:19] Especially Emerald had a lot of, like, post-game content.

[00:29:21] So, it was just, like, I never really had a big reason for it.

[00:29:24] And, like I said, I had my, like, go-getters, my team.

[00:29:27] That's just, like, what I ran with.

[00:29:28] And I was like, these are the homies.

[00:29:30] And this is just, like, I don't want to restart.

[00:29:31] Oh, yeah.

[00:29:32] Didn't you just, like, call them up on your cell phone or whatever?

[00:29:34] And you were like, like, Ayo, bitch.

[00:29:38] You want to die tonight?

[00:29:40] Where do you want to die?

[00:29:41] You want to see a dead body at your house later today?

[00:29:43] You want to become a dead body?

[00:29:45] Me, you, I have.

[00:29:48] Yes.

[00:29:49] Those are our favorite memories.

[00:29:51] The fighting.

[00:29:52] Behind the Denny's.

[00:29:53] A PokéDenny's.

[00:29:55] Calling up Roxanne.

[00:29:56] Like, guess what?

[00:29:57] Water gun.

[00:29:59] God, Roxanne was sucking.

[00:30:00] Pocket sand.

[00:30:01] Poor Roxanne.

[00:30:04] You're like, I'm coming back for you.

[00:30:06] Girl.

[00:30:07] You're screwed now.

[00:30:07] I got a level 70 Rayquaza.

[00:30:09] That nose pass has no chance.

[00:30:11] Yeah.

[00:30:11] With extreme speed.

[00:30:15] That nose pass can't evolve in this game.

[00:30:17] Oh, man.

[00:30:18] I'm going to break a fucking nose then.

[00:30:20] What does it have?

[00:30:21] Nothing.

[00:30:21] It's just pass.

[00:30:23] It's just pass.

[00:30:25] It's just pass.

[00:30:27] I want to talk about some of the little improvements that Gen 3 brought along.

[00:30:32] That, I mean, that's kind of what really made me love Gen 3.

[00:30:36] First of all.

[00:30:36] I mean, of course, the new region, the new Pokémon, Pokéballs,

[00:30:40] and berries and new moves.

[00:30:41] Because there was a lot of cool new moves it brought.

[00:30:44] So many, yeah.

[00:30:44] New Pokéballs.

[00:30:46] Like, I think it was the netball that came along here and the dive ball.

[00:30:51] Because this is where you could finally dive underwater.

[00:30:53] Yeah.

[00:30:54] Love ball, too.

[00:30:55] Yeah.

[00:30:56] That one is a girl.

[00:30:57] The quick balls in this game, right?

[00:30:58] Do we have quick balls yet?

[00:30:59] Or is that next gen?

[00:31:00] I don't remember.

[00:31:01] I remember using the hell out of them in the next gen.

[00:31:02] But maybe they're in.

[00:31:04] Jamie, can you look that up?

[00:31:05] You for sure get a premier ball.

[00:31:07] It's introduced in Generation 4, the quick ball.

[00:31:09] Damn.

[00:31:10] That's kind of what I thought.

[00:31:11] I love the quick ball.

[00:31:12] Quick ball is great.

[00:31:13] Quick ball rules.

[00:31:13] Cool design, cool ball.

[00:31:14] Yeah.

[00:31:15] What about the premier ball, though?

[00:31:16] What a piece of shit that was.

[00:31:19] You want 10 master balls?

[00:31:21] Okay.

[00:31:22] Here's a free premier ball.

[00:31:24] No, I don't want that.

[00:31:25] But it's free.

[00:31:26] It's like a shiny Pokéball.

[00:31:27] It was cool.

[00:31:28] It was like, whoa.

[00:31:29] Look at this white and red Pokéball.

[00:31:30] Instead of, I guess, the original one's also white and red.

[00:31:33] I feel like the longest time I actually got it.

[00:31:35] Oh, yeah.

[00:31:37] It's god awful.

[00:31:38] So I was convinced.

[00:31:40] I was like, this has to be slightly better odds.

[00:31:45] Memory unlocked.

[00:31:46] I remember trying to always catch the legendaries with shitty, dumb Pokéballs.

[00:31:50] I caught Kyogre in a premier ball.

[00:31:54] Yeah.

[00:31:55] That's the joke ball.

[00:31:57] Take that, God.

[00:31:58] It looked good in a premier ball.

[00:31:59] You said joke ball.

[00:32:00] You caught him with a joke ball.

[00:32:01] Oh.

[00:32:03] The other joke ball.

[00:32:04] Yeah.

[00:32:06] Your points reward system.

[00:32:08] Scam.

[00:32:09] No.

[00:32:10] It's a scam.

[00:32:11] Oh, my gosh.

[00:32:12] There's.

[00:32:12] What are you talking about?

[00:32:14] What?

[00:32:15] I'm having a whole other.

[00:32:20] Well, most points reward systems are not like the return you get on it is very.

[00:32:26] It's scammy.

[00:32:27] It's if you look into it, it's very scammy.

[00:32:29] So the premier ball being something that you get for spending certain amounts of money and

[00:32:34] it's not actually any different than a Pokéball.

[00:32:36] It's.

[00:32:37] Oh.

[00:32:37] It's like.

[00:32:38] Yeah.

[00:32:39] It's a scam.

[00:32:40] It's the points reward system.

[00:32:42] It looks different, like better.

[00:32:43] Yeah.

[00:32:44] If you smoke like 600 packs of cigarettes, you get a t-shirt or something.

[00:32:46] Yeah.

[00:32:49] Yeah.

[00:32:49] Yeah.

[00:32:50] Yeah.

[00:33:03] The free cooler.

[00:33:05] Yeah.

[00:33:06] virgin we got abilities shit like droughts uh uh what's the rainy day one drizzle yeah

[00:33:13] drizzle oh yeah intimidate yeah i mean this was this was huge like some of these things i mean

[00:33:19] other generations introduce you know battle mechanics and gimmicks that get left behind but

[00:33:24] things like double battles and abilities are still like really hard mainstays in the modern pokemon

[00:33:29] to like you know into the competitive with obviously abilities being huge on pokemon

[00:33:33] and doubles being a complete format and competitive as well too crazy that it was like introduced here

[00:33:38] yeah yeah i as a huge fan of the bgc i've been watching like ever regionals for the past couple

[00:33:46] of years now i like when i was reading through the doc notes and saw like that you know you said

[00:33:52] that like double battles this was this generation and abilities i was like oh my god literal game

[00:33:58] changer holy shit was this oh so good i want to low key after the indigo disc dlc i know i keep

[00:34:06] slightly bringing up other pokemon games but after the indigo disc dlc please give me a double

[00:34:12] it's so good i want a full double battle like with the caveat of it actually being like pokemon

[00:34:18] that's true and xd gale of darkness we're all doubles oops all doubles all doubles yeah i love

[00:34:24] that with the caveat of being actual like because those battles and indigo disc are hard like they

[00:34:29] have like competitive teams so like give me a double battle game and make the difficult that's

[00:34:34] what i want agreed man you show up and lacy's got the extra drill like strats like what do you mean

[00:34:42] the plus i was like i didn't even know you do things i thought you were a joke yeah

[00:34:49] yeah i was like this is interesting uh yeah i truly double battles are just oh i love them

[00:34:57] i'm glad this existed good job wasn't this the first gen where you could run because i don't

[00:35:03] remember that being in gold and silver they might like run from battles i was like i don't i think

[00:35:08] that's always been that uh but yeah like running shoes yeah yeah that's really cool i mean like

[00:35:15] the jump from like a device that was basically a calculator into the game boy advance that was

[00:35:21] basically a handheld super nintendo that that and that's the biggest thing too like i you know gen

[00:35:27] one to gen two sure but like the gap between silver like gold silver crystal to emerald i feel like that

[00:35:32] jump is so significant and just like mechanics and visuals and content like there's so much

[00:35:38] difference between those two games it's kind of crazy oh my god yeah oh and the yeah the different

[00:35:44] bikes like the mock bike and the acro bike that was really cool i only ever used the acro bike

[00:35:49] though because the mock bike was just like i only go one speed dumb and then yeah but even like

[00:35:58] restricting traversal to some areas depending on the bike like that's cool like that's such a cool

[00:36:03] mechanic yeah yeah it was kind of a pain in the ass you have to go all the way back to i think it

[00:36:08] was like just the one store to switch right the one in mawville i guess i guess they did it better

[00:36:14] in uh oris they fixed that problem love oris i played like 700 hours of oris yes that's so awesome

[00:36:24] 700 holy shit yeah it was i saw the mock bike change the you want to talk about like not just how

[00:36:33] emerald like you want like this generation being a bit of like a game changer and stuff introducing the

[00:36:40] the flutes even in oris to like have that overworld traversal and like start kind of incorporating those

[00:36:47] aspects of like even what we do in modern like the current pokemon games and stuff very good

[00:36:54] generation for like oh yeah incredible yeah between between emerald and oris like both of those in

[00:37:00] general like huge huge quality of life improvements for both great ideas yeah big jumps they're great

[00:37:08] games for that dude another really awesome one was how they changed the pokemon storage system oh gosh

[00:37:13] because talk about quality of life jesus christ the bag system too like your bags having like its own

[00:37:19] little sections and categories and like you didn't and you had unlimited space and yeah yeah and there's

[00:37:25] like little pictures showing you like what each item was those that's so cool yeah yeah the pokemon

[00:37:30] storage system like in previous generations it was pretty much just all text based like you had little

[00:37:36] different icons for certain types of pokemon but still like shit was very heavily abbreviated

[00:37:44] in uh in third gen you had each pokemon's individual sprite that you could see in your in your

[00:37:51] box and you know well and so much storage too like i can't tell you how many times i remember like

[00:37:55] silver and crystal big oh your box is full sorry gotta get rid of someone yeah fuck that

[00:38:02] we're guy oh yeah and and the different backgrounds during battles too oh yeah like the environments and

[00:38:08] everything yep grass you have yeah if you're on the sea you can see the water the deserts

[00:38:15] all that shit even the uh all the ashy grass in oh i forget what town that was fall arbor or uh

[00:38:22] fall arbor yeah a lot of water because obviously this generation is is the notorious ign review the

[00:38:29] 7.8 too much water uh that was this generation which i i mean there is a lot of water in environments

[00:38:36] but also like pokemon too this generation is the one that is severely lacking with fire types there's like

[00:38:41] what two or three different lines of fire types you can use and that's it yeah hope you like slugma

[00:38:47] yeah exactly slugma cargo i forgot about torquil that's it yeah i was a torchic person so like that

[00:38:56] problem never fully registered with me yeah uh because like i always had blaze again so i was just

[00:39:01] double kicking and overheating my way through most of the game absolutely oh overheat

[00:39:06] what that that was an awesome move for that generation that's a good thing what was our

[00:39:09] starters that we all decided like that we went with in the beginning here trico every time trico

[00:39:15] every time i was a mudkip guy i love myself some mudkip despite the trico on my shoulder here i was

[00:39:21] actually a i'm a torchic blaziken evolution thing all the way yeah yeah i always pick the fire types

[00:39:28] to start as my first playthrough and then when i get my when i buy the second one yeah because i always

[00:39:35] do then i i kind of go with something else but yeah definitely trico so or not trico sorry torchic

[00:39:41] so i also had the same like what are you talking about fire like i'm chilling i have the best fire

[00:39:46] type basically ever yeah exactly beth i'm with you like i i would i did fire types all the way up

[00:39:51] until x and y and i was like greninja is kind of cool i think i want him this time dang that's a

[00:39:57] shame because del fox is so cool too like fire psychic is such a cool typing yeah my heart did

[00:40:02] break when that box stood up um but i i also i greninja is super i played i did x first and then y

[00:40:13] and i did fennekin and then yeah brokey yeah i will say too that this was probably my first generation

[00:40:20] where i played where i didn't have a clear like decision of what i wanted like all three of these

[00:40:25] were great like swampert blaziken septile and my mind playing this for the first time they're all

[00:40:30] fantastic like these are all i didn't know what to choose i ultimately like leaned mudkip and out

[00:40:34] swampert's like one of my favorite pokemon love that guy they're all incredible but they're all great

[00:40:38] yeah great pokemon it's it's still kind of weird to me that we never got a dual type on septile

[00:40:44] like the other two have dual types with septiles just like just mega he got dragon with his mega

[00:40:49] yeah that's pretty much it three gens later man three gens too late three gens too late

[00:41:00] oh grovile is great i think i think explorers of sky also helped me like fall in love with

[00:41:04] grovile too mystery dungeon that's right that's right and leaf blade is just such a cool fucking

[00:41:09] move man yeah it's super cool yeah between that and the anime like grovile just had everything going

[00:41:15] for him his design's great he's cool he's in the anime he's in other games yeah grovile is probably

[00:41:20] the best middle stage out there i like really like it was one of those things that it's like i

[00:41:26] love guilava but grovile is just the best one like why it that it's the only one where it's like when

[00:41:34] it evolves i'm like can i go back yeah can i just have a really strong grovile yeah why's he got a

[00:41:39] pine tree on his butt i don't want that i'm like i don't like christmas that much i don't like

[00:41:44] christmas that much he was like the christmas tree yeah yeah and how do you think i feel when i got

[00:41:49] marsh top and i was like oh okay i guess so i guess i'll pick him yeah that i he's a he's a weirdo

[00:41:56] he's one of those he's one of those weird middle evolutions up there oh my god him in um

[00:42:01] drissili the middle evolution for sobble or even um oh what's uh scarvey's uh quacks well

[00:42:10] oh yeah yeah he's so bad he's hard on all of us i'm struggling to remember any what's up with

[00:42:18] the water types in their middle evolution just being bad yeah pip-up's evolution is like horrifying

[00:42:24] yeah are they all i'm trying to think of i guess do what do what's fine the one for sobble was cool

[00:42:30] though he's like a hot topic manager that's awesome his name is drizzle or something like

[00:42:37] drizzler the drizzler i don't know but i don't like he works at a hot topic can i take your or no people

[00:42:44] don't take orders at hot topic can i take your order um yeah i'm out of his mind like at hot topic

[00:42:50] like welcome to friendlies oh my god oh man god damn it so pokemon contest

[00:43:01] pokeblock yes yeah that was another welcome to friendly holy shit yeah somebody else taking

[00:43:07] away with the pokemon contest i didn't do i didn't i also didn't do a lot of contests i think i did

[00:43:13] more of it here than an than an auras i think auras i just like completely ignored although they try to

[00:43:19] really shoehorn it into the narrative in auras but yeah i mean pokemon contests were a kind of

[00:43:24] cool addition to try to create something different from battle something a little more interesting that

[00:43:29] you can throw in and have talent show yeah like a talent show for your pop a beauty pageant for

[00:43:34] your pokemon i guess which was which was interesting i felt like too i don't know if this is true or not

[00:43:42] because i obviously don't know in analytics and marketing for japan and pokemon in the you know

[00:43:48] early 2000s but it's sort of also like felt a bit like oh here's what girls will like and it like

[00:43:57] i don't know man your game has evie i already like it he's already pretty he's already pretty and the

[00:44:05] music is good and there's all these cute creatures so it's like i i felt like it was very much like thrown

[00:44:10] in there and then with the anime just being like oh that's what may does yeah oh yeah that's right

[00:44:16] yeah and then in the fourth and that's what dawn does so it's like i didn't i personally never was

[00:44:23] like oh yeah wow they finally put something in a pokemon game for me like that's you know they added

[00:44:29] like the pick uh the option of be um like a girl in gen 2 with crystal and i was done i was good i'm good

[00:44:37] thank you that's that's that's all i need yeah it probably came probably came from because i obviously

[00:44:42] i think like the anime and the games a lot of that's being developed around the same time as

[00:44:46] they're building ideas and everything so you know introducing may and have her be like well she's

[00:44:50] not gonna be a gym leader like misty what if she wasn't a trainer what if she did something different

[00:44:53] and like try to create something different around that that probably is why contests were around here

[00:44:58] uh it's really just to kind of coincide with the anime and be like oh that girl's doing that thing

[00:45:02] that thing needs to be in the game too that yeah her anime rival in the contest being like just a gay

[00:45:07] guy who dresses like a cat turn what was his name he's the one dressed like a cat turn dude he was so

[00:45:12] cool james oh my god he was just like they just hated her for no reason and kept showing up it'd be

[00:45:18] like a whole arc and it's like guess we're doing five episodes of this this is the contest arc of the

[00:45:23] the anime here strapping folks yeah but i feel like they definitely tried more to make the

[00:45:28] contests in the anime at least interesting with don but with me i feel like they really just were

[00:45:32] like not putting in well i think the i think the problem is on though correct me if i'm wrong there

[00:45:38] was no battles in the contest in the games right it was just the the like user move and the judges

[00:45:45] would judge your move and then you go to the end and each move had a certain like right rating to it

[00:45:51] for pokemon contests it was dumb but even in the anime like they did that part where they rated and then

[00:45:56] they would battle afterward they would have a full pokemon battle afterward where not only are you

[00:46:00] battling someone but like your your moves also had to display uh like a type of elegance while

[00:46:05] you're battling too and that would have been cool to introduce in the game yeah give me the dopamine

[00:46:09] hit of like i actually that would have been i just registered what you said absolutely this idea of like

[00:46:17] having to do the contest in a way that you you know you have your little mini game whatever

[00:46:21] but you also then have to make sure that your pokemon moves are matching like you're like okay

[00:46:28] what's the best composition i can do to go against my opponent but also how can i hit but how can i make

[00:46:35] it hit the like you know requirements that would actually be something like worth exploring because

[00:46:42] there's more to it than the little mini game aspect that i thought was very like

[00:46:48] make my ludicolo lip sync for his life

[00:46:53] yes ludicolo

[00:46:55] but

[00:46:57] he does it he'll do it

[00:47:00] yeah but like um the pokemon contest were like so like they were in there and i remember because like

[00:47:06] it's i love these games so much i wanted to do everything about it i tried to engage with them

[00:47:10] in earnest i remember like i don't remember if it was like my aunt or something but like somebody was

[00:47:14] like watching me play and they were like asking like what are you doing and like i just like it was

[00:47:18] like i don't really know i don't i don't i'm not entirely sure i'm not entirely sure yeah literally

[00:47:24] it's like i i couldn't tell you especially because it was a category is like coolness and beauty and

[00:47:29] you're like oh yeah i understand this and that's what the fucking stars so i was like all right

[00:47:34] blazer kid let's double kick our way through this one which i don't think i ever touched the

[00:47:40] poke block mechanic i don't think i ever like dot it was so stupid you you just put different

[00:47:47] combinations of berries into a blender and mash a and b and then it it shits out a block and it's

[00:47:54] like haha this one is spicy so they're cool or like this one's sweet so they're cute i don't know

[00:48:01] yeah melodic is cool but and like when i love my like not worth the poke block thing crap yeah

[00:48:08] i'll say this painful um but like that as much like shit uh that gen 4 gets for like is considered

[00:48:15] like to be on like the lower end of things they do the stuff where it's like uh what is it the

[00:48:19] the puffins or like the puffins like that stuff's way better yes and the pokemon contests are way

[00:48:24] better in gen 4 too like they they figured it out what i was gonna say is i did a lot of that in gen

[00:48:28] four and even like the the puffins and everything like that or the puffins i did a lot of that i i can

[00:48:33] see it in my mind the little like mini game where you're like mixing them around not puffins not like the

[00:48:37] birds but like the puffins all you're not mixing up birds no puffins mixing up do we have a puffin

[00:48:47] pokemon please i i'm gonna google it i don't think so i don't so no like my home province newfoundland

[00:48:59] has like puffins off the the shores and stuff like that and um they during august during like when all

[00:49:08] the babies are there they get confused and fly into the into towns and so there are like puffin

[00:49:14] protection squads that go out and catch baby puffins to release them and stuff so i really love

[00:49:20] give us a gen 10 give us a puffin pokemon i know we're gonna be in like we're giving callous for me

[00:49:25] in france but i want a puffin pokemon yeah yeah i want a star wars got the puffins before pokemon

[00:49:30] what the hell what the hell man come on nintendo nantanda nantanda where's my puffins nantanda

[00:49:39] so many birds we have a lot of birds where's my puffins nantanda okay that's that's enough so uh

[00:49:46] the the next the next big thing was the weather system because you can have i don't it wasn't

[00:49:52] dynamic you would like certain areas had rain and certain areas had like like sandstorm and

[00:49:58] yeah like the deserts had sandstorm there was that one town again with all the ash that would

[00:50:04] just fall and you can get covered in ash and then go into the fucking hot spring and wash it off

[00:50:09] yeah so cool yeah and that would also affect battles too like if it was like if it was raining in an

[00:50:14] area start a battle it's raining in the battle and it powers up water type moves all that stuff and

[00:50:19] that was really cool yeah just as we're like breaking this down i mean i've played this game so

[00:50:22] much and pokemon so much but i kind of take for granted like how much was introduced in this game and

[00:50:28] it just kind of all worked like this system too like adding abilities and adding it was like

[00:50:33] actually i don't know if swifts one was introduced here but just like but eventually but abilities that

[00:50:39] could be affected by weather or kick up the weather yeah and hail that does damage and sun that powers

[00:50:43] a fire type moves like all this is such like wildly intricate mechanics that were introduced here that

[00:50:48] we just like oh just normal now right you set up the sun you have a fire team you set up the rain

[00:50:52] with drizzle with pelipper things like that and like lee like such like i love cannot emphasize

[00:51:00] love vgc and i love what like when they get weather wars on the go and like they're really prevalent

[00:51:06] and like right now because of pelipper and like the lower like tier like the h reg h stuff torkoal and

[00:51:15] pelipper actually are so relevant yes j3 being able to like being able to uh change uh weather as well

[00:51:23] is important and i remember in sword and shield i tried running a rain team for a while because i

[00:51:27] love i love my pelipper i love right you with thunder 100 in the rain is so crazy it's so fun

[00:51:33] and 100 accurate hurricanes i forgot about that so good chance to confuse yeah i yeah there's so many

[00:51:41] good mechanics i love the weather one yeah i think i uh obviously other i think hail was the worst and

[00:51:47] they've definitely in my opinion fixed a lot of the problems with that status condition with snow

[00:51:53] but everything else like sand rain and the sun haven't changed really since yeah since here and

[00:52:01] and and they because they work they just yeah did was it in here where they're they don't run out

[00:52:09] right was it yeah that was the only difference is they now they have a turn they i think it's like

[00:52:14] five turns or so depending on like your item of course but i think here once you set up the sun

[00:52:18] or set up the rain it's here until it's gone yeah it wasn't until yeah i remember that uh like

[00:52:25] anytime like sunny day happened like because i was a kid i didn't understand like the meta of

[00:52:29] everything it's just that kind of thing it's like okay whatever and then like if i ground on and

[00:52:33] he's like solar beam with now having to charge it like whoa excuse me you're like that's fine i'll

[00:52:38] just hydro pump you this does a 120 damage you're like uh wait what yeah why isn't it's not doing a

[00:52:43] lot i would say like too like it took me a really long time to realize like as a kid that not i knew

[00:52:49] that it powered up the water like yeah rain powers up the water i think it took me a really long time

[00:52:55] to realize that it like powered down fire fire like i didn't realize that aspect so it's like

[00:53:03] you know you're you're going in and you you know someone sets up sunny day or you know it's hot and

[00:53:08] you go to attack something that you normally would be super effective against and it's like doesn't do

[00:53:13] anything you're like what though brain like again just like too hot i don't want oh man it's too hot

[00:53:21] how many just like different mechanics were introduced in this game it is and like your

[00:53:25] your game boy advance didn't like fry in your hands with all the stuff that was happening in this we

[00:53:29] haven't even gotten to the emerald uh specific improvement we're still on just gen 3 shit yeah

[00:53:35] yeah exactly and it not only like you know the game boy advance for its size and like how

[00:53:41] all of this was able to happen and stuff i dropped my game boy my white game boy advance in the snow

[00:53:46] and i lost it for four days and then i found it after the snow had melted and it still works this

[00:53:52] day i found mine after the golf war and it still works i have my own golf that's insane though for

[00:54:02] four days it was just in i was snow yeah and i was walking back from school and i passed by and the

[00:54:10] black part of just like you know where the sticker was oh thank fuck it caught that caught my eye and i

[00:54:16] was like oh my god and like picked it up and it was like it's still and it still worked and my

[00:54:22] pokemon sapphire version worked everything did shit that's that's crazy did you guys ever decorate your

[00:54:28] uh game boy advance and sps with pokemon stickers because mine was full of them i had so many stickers

[00:54:34] on my sp i think i think i did it one time and i was like actually i changed my mind i like it more the

[00:54:39] other way and i took the sticker you're like i hate this it's got the adhesive residue on there now so

[00:54:44] there's like hair and shit stuck to it it's the sticker now like uh paralysis yeah it's like the

[00:54:50] you know you're like no it's the opposite you were like i you committed and then you're like actually

[00:54:57] this is the worst thing yeah i hate this another thing with um you're talking about like the weather

[00:55:03] conditions and like how they affect battle and everything like this is like why the first few

[00:55:06] generations were so cool for like playground talk of like you know like this weird secret secret

[00:55:11] secret because like you hear things like you know like if the if it's raining then like thunder will

[00:55:16] always hit every single time that sounds like as fake or real as like anything else you hear about

[00:55:21] any other room yeah that is so why would a thing that boosts water effects like you know let me use

[00:55:27] thunder a million times against kyogre yeah that's true times that is so cool man that is so true

[00:55:34] i love the like early sense of like playground like you know because you're most people are playing

[00:55:39] kids but like that like community that like you know even if it was like you saw someone with

[00:55:46] like a game boy yeah or a game boy advance and you would just like a meet and you'd see the color

[00:55:51] because they are iconic colors too and you're just like locked eyes and you're just like oh my god

[00:55:57] you're like oh okay friend you got a game boy you got pokemon in that game boy that's right that's

[00:56:02] right we gotta trade yeah beat you behind the bleachers we'll trade some pokemon jesus christ

[00:56:06] like it's a drug deal yeah now it's just like some ludicolo so yeah you got yourself a ludicolo i

[00:56:12] need to need to trade you now you just get on discord and like talk to some guy named youngster joey

[00:56:17] who's like hitting dad pins like that's so funny because to complete the pokedex i think either in

[00:56:24] sword and shield and scarvey i did that where i was like went on discord i was like hey do you guys

[00:56:28] have stonejourner i need uh to complete my pokedex yeah i did that with the paradox pokemon in scar

[00:56:37] yeah that's what it was now just set up like like the trader codes or whatever they'll just be like

[00:56:42] hey this is the one that the whole reddit community uses to trade these two yeah i did that with like

[00:56:48] the starters um gosh what's his name he like i forgot the youtuber's name but he like set up a whole like

[00:56:55] oh i don't know it's austin john austin john austin john plays okay yeah so he set up like a whole thing

[00:56:59] where it's like it's a whole list of pokemon and it's like oh you could trade this for this and you

[00:57:03] just put it in the code and you can get that pokemon and you'll connect with someone that also wants

[00:57:06] the opposite that you're trading so that was really nice in the beginning of that to get those pokemon

[00:57:11] too the last improvement from gen 3 was a smoother frame rate now we get to the improvements

[00:57:21] specific to emerald probably the first one being that you could catch legendaries from both games

[00:57:27] in this game so yeah yep back in the olden days you could only catch my day back in my day you could

[00:57:34] only catch groudon in the ruby version and kyogre in the sapphire and that's the laugh island

[00:57:42] oh i clutch my pearls i couldn't catch a zigzag goon in ruby version or whatever i don't remember what

[00:57:48] i had to walk uphill both ways to get my kyogre i had to go up to mirage tower with the mock bike

[00:57:56] gosh i feel like i did that so many times the mirage tower destroyed me that tower sucks

[00:58:04] the baronet bit me in the arm

[00:58:09] professor bitch sent me on my way with nothing to help

[00:58:14] oh man yeah um yeah alongside that you we would fight both team magma and team aqua

[00:58:21] uh whereas again each one had their own separate game

[00:58:24] yeah you also had multi battles which were kind of cool which is basically just a double battle but

[00:58:28] instead of like you sending out two pokemon to be you send out one and fucking wally throws out a

[00:58:33] raltz or something dumb that only does growl so that's cool fingers crossed for when the the enemy

[00:58:40] ai targets him instead them instead taking one for the team wally good job thanks a bunch wall

[00:58:47] yeah how did you guys feel about team aqua and team magma in this generation because obviously this is

[00:58:53] this is first like no rocket right we've had two generations of team rocket now we have these two

[00:58:57] that are just wanting to i guess flood the world and make more land i guess that's their

[00:59:01] i guess that's their objective they're either like eco terrorists that like worship one or the

[00:59:06] other god and like their thing is like pokemon need more ground to run around on and then team

[00:59:11] aqua's like actually they need more actually melt the ice caps they're like so bad eco

[00:59:20] because they're like screw in the world exactly like wait a minute it's not the opposite of what

[00:59:25] you're supposed to do hold on they need to play final fantasy 7 it's like you gotta go after the

[00:59:30] industry don't go after the environment yeah it's not gonna help uh oh my god i actually i think

[00:59:37] okay i think team aqua and magma were a little bit not that great as like a team i always got

[00:59:47] confused by the concept of them also i i did see the whole i heard that i had friends i had friends

[00:59:55] that had emeralds and so i've seen some aspects of it and it was like how does team mega think they're

[01:00:02] gonna win this i just there's a tiny little there's a tiny ground space yeah land land i guess

[01:00:11] when in that fight he's in the middle of the ocean he's fire ground one false move and he's drowning

[01:00:20] to death ground ground ground on ground on is uh he's not winning that fight there's no show i just

[01:00:28] feel like it was so ill conceived on there like those gamblers that are like listen our team fucking

[01:00:33] sucks but if they win i'm hitting it big baby i'm hitting it big i also think it's funny all the odds

[01:00:38] are against me i think it's funny having a a team that's like team magma like the team fire in a

[01:00:45] generation that's severely lacking of fire types because they all just have like poochianas and

[01:00:49] things like that it feels so strange it's just like team magma is like a new york's jet fan in

[01:00:54] terms of like coping with it and it's like look he could use he could use solar beam on the first

[01:00:58] attack if he lands it but he thinks he can land it just you wait last time on sunny day please don't

[01:01:03] change the weather please don't change the weather they changed the weather don't have a paliper

[01:01:07] yeah don't have one of the most don't have a gen like first route first couple routes i was like

[01:01:15] don't have the you know oh that's paid yeah so no i just really was like even as a kid i was like

[01:01:21] this seems a little bit farfetched yeah i forgot about cast form with the weather that was cool

[01:01:29] oh cast form little testicle monster yeah that he's my favorite he's a guy that exists

[01:01:35] he's like the premier ball of pokemon to me where it's like here you're a premier ball of pokemon

[01:01:39] that's so true you do that entire segment it's like here you go a free pokemon it's like awesome

[01:01:44] but you look it's like oh okay saved your life man you can be a cat i guess i guess so although

[01:01:49] like you said him changing his forms in the weather is is cool and if he has like weather ball like i

[01:01:54] guess that's somewhat viable but yeah cast form little yeah he's never seen years he's never been

[01:02:01] just wait just wait till he comes to vgs he's gonna be the patchy risu one day and he's gonna

[01:02:04] he's gonna really take a team home yeah yeah jesus christ are the little patrice that's like a lord

[01:02:11] patchy risu it's like mean girls like stop trying to make fetch happen it won't happen but cast form

[01:02:17] happen that's form happen yeah that's like all right let's go fight this keckley on outside baby

[01:02:21] let's see what you can do let me just morph into my son for real boop boop boop boop

[01:02:27] it's like cast forms in the wheelchair okay grandpa doesn't even have legs let's go

[01:02:36] i could change into four four sure you sure you can cast more yeah oh what a guy what he's a guy he does

[01:02:47] something i guess oh shit uh speaking of guys there was also the cool little animations your pokemon

[01:02:53] would make would make when you send them out so like keckleon or not keckleon uh yeah keckleon would

[01:02:58] do like a little tonguey thing yeah yes treko there that's the other lizard one treko would just

[01:03:05] kind of jump around yeah i forgot what the other apparently there was supposed to be a because there's

[01:03:11] all like the game free documents that have that had leaked recently as of like recording but they

[01:03:16] were supposed to have like animations kind of like black and white but the game boy just didn't have

[01:03:20] enough power to be able to do that but there's a lot of like animations and drawings of the pokemon

[01:03:24] you know being able to kind of move idly as they're standing there but it never actually happened

[01:03:28] that would be fucking sweet yeah that would be sweet but your game boy would be uh just melting

[01:03:33] in your hands if that was happening in there fair that's true yeah and then of course yeah the

[01:03:38] battle frontier which was really cool uh post-game content my favorite one ever was that yes like

[01:03:43] amusement park one with the roller coaster and ship that was yes really cool every generation

[01:03:48] they should bring it back i don't get why the the biggest slap in the face was an oris at the end

[01:03:52] where they have like the construction of it and then it never happened and you're like i ain't got

[01:03:57] yeah like thank you i guess for all of the cool little islands with all of the legendaries and stuff

[01:04:02] but i wanted the battle frontier was so cool literally like some of the most robust post-game

[01:04:07] content in any video game and then it's like but like they tease you it's the fact that they tease

[01:04:12] you with the battle frontier they could have just not had it in there and i would be fine

[01:04:18] it's just like it's like you get cake on your birthday and then you're like we're getting ice cream

[01:04:22] right and they're like yeah and then you just don't get ice cream you just don't get anything

[01:04:26] yeah and though the battle frontier was great because like i mean similar like gen 2 this was

[01:04:30] such like what six seven more badges you got you got you fought all the battle brains and

[01:04:35] everything like that at the end of each one of the challenges and they were unique too like

[01:04:39] sometimes you'd have rental pokemon you'd have to use and and it wasn't just straight traditional

[01:04:44] battle gym battles like all the rest of them so it was cool i love the battle frontier yeah i did

[01:04:49] like um like the what the battle tree and then yeah in sun and moon yeah and it was like similar ish

[01:04:57] but you're kind of still just like why not put this in every generation and i would say the worst

[01:05:02] offender is um sword and shield i will say i am a short i'm a sword and shield defender for the

[01:05:11] most part i i do really think that generation gets a lot of shit yeah i love sword shield it's good but

[01:05:16] that that tower existed in that last town i was looking at it like that's a battle tower

[01:05:23] yeah let me in the battle frontier give me my battle frontier and it was like no here's a bunch of battles

[01:05:28] like okay that's yeah and that'll get severely lacking in postgame content in my like first

[01:05:34] sword and shield it could have that just slap that in there so easy in my opinion uh yeah the battle

[01:05:41] for that aspect battle frontier we knew this was the generation that gave us what we but like you

[01:05:49] know the golden apple type thing and then every generation after that doesn't have it you're just

[01:05:53] like why did you take that from me i mean just like like keith was talking about just like such a

[01:05:57] robust postgame and with some of the games going forward we just we just don't get that as much

[01:06:02] yeah like again that's something that the plat platinum did really well was like yeah like that

[01:06:07] really like robust postgame stuff and like again it's like again like okay we did in gen 4 what about

[01:06:12] gen 5 and it's like we just gave you the best generation of all time retired let's go sleep

[01:06:16] yeah or even bdsp they're like no we're not doing that yeah i don't want to talk about the diamond

[01:06:23] and pearl remakes if that's okay uh the pearl the brilliant shining pearl yeah shining pearl was the

[01:06:34] first pokemon game i ever successfully nuzlocked and i still don't like that game i'm still like i

[01:06:40] did a nuzlock on it on my first playthrough because we did it for our our podcast and i

[01:06:47] barely lost to cynthia that's because that fight's hard it is hard my um growth roserade

[01:06:53] carried yeah and i was like i never went back i lost her and i was like nope i didn't go back

[01:06:59] that's tough yeah that's a hard one she's you know broken many yeah she's many many souls have

[01:07:05] been broken via cynthia yeah what was up with that cave in the battle frontier that just had smeargles

[01:07:10] on them oh yeah the smeargle cave i forgot about that weird as shit is what was up yeah like i always

[01:07:15] think about that because i always saw like is there more to this like there has to be like a punch

[01:07:18] line or something to this as a kid and then like it was just nope it's just a bunch of smegles

[01:07:24] so okay i could say go crazy i can do a crazy theory if you want to go wacky me what if they were

[01:07:32] trying to do plato's the cave oh wow you know the cave the drawings on the wall smeargles they do

[01:07:43] they paint drawing they paint they're in a cave they you know those that's cool i like that want to go

[01:07:51] hard speaking of that the way you get the reggie's was cool too because there was like the like braille

[01:07:57] shit on the wall and you had i mean cool but just like that's wild first of all i like hey you get

[01:08:02] a whale lord and a relicant and you have to know braille and i was like what is happening this is

[01:08:07] crazy guess i'll make myself blind yeah that's an insight i mean like nowadays where we get like

[01:08:17] legendaries just like distributed via like a game stop card or uh like a e-shop drop like yeah that's

[01:08:23] some wild like actual roundabout way of making these pokemon feel like they're important yeah so yeah

[01:08:29] yeah but even getting the reggie's in the like the reggie draco and yeah in the sword and shield

[01:08:35] dlc yeah that was like i mean at least understandable yeah like i was like i can get this you know maybe i

[01:08:43] googled the second one because i was like i got this enough i don't really yeah i don't want to go i

[01:08:47] don't want to go through this it was yeah you're right braille how the hell yeah like just real

[01:08:54] little braille jet 3 was the first time i ever used like cheat codes on like a video game not not

[01:08:58] cheat because like walkthroughs i would go i literally typed in like the internet url like

[01:09:02] cheat codes.com it's like oh look at that and then i was just like and i was like mom i want an ipod

[01:09:11] immediately i'm opening it up but you just i love the idea though of your mom just being like how do

[01:09:17] these two things connect with each other because you're like oh you're playing your pokemon game

[01:09:20] and then you suddenly are like check this into the website and then you go mom i need an ipad

[01:09:25] ipod and then just like how the fuck did we get yeah no it's like these advertisements that just

[01:09:30] say congratulations you won and i'm just trying to like learn how to like figure out the reggie's

[01:09:34] thing yo cheat codes.com still exists it's still happening oh my god is it yeah i went on there it's

[01:09:40] it's weird to see xbox one and ps4 on here this this this feels wild that that aside though how the

[01:09:47] fuck would anyone have figured out how to get the reggie's without a walkthrough man it just no

[01:09:52] no one uses relicanth like yeah geniuses relicanth sucks man yeah relicanth has a cool

[01:09:59] shiny though blue relicanth is great blue relicanth and relicanth i think is the least

[01:10:06] offensible ugly fish that has i can agree with that like bruxish i was gonna say bruxish oh i hate

[01:10:14] that guy wouldn't go there's like a lot of ugly fish in pokemon but and relicanth i would put in

[01:10:21] that category but i think he's the least ugly fish i can agree although i yeah i can agree

[01:10:28] it's a it's a great award to hold i'll say maybe wishy-washy because wishy-washy is kind of cute

[01:10:33] i wouldn't put him in ugly fish okay so there's there's ugly fish and he's the least ugly okay oh

[01:10:39] feebass is totally fucking ugly but fucking yeah but feebass has the like my loading so there's

[01:10:44] like no you're still ugly though yeah but that's like part of the arc of the character yeah yeah

[01:10:49] he's ugly in like a pug way yes

[01:10:55] if you can't handle her at her feebass you don't deserve yeah you don't deserve her at her milotic

[01:11:02] yes yes we get we need some snaps around here for that one

[01:11:08] oh man i moved the music up because uh because yeah the music just fucking slaps we talked jared

[01:11:15] you brought up the trumpets earlier but

[01:11:20] and then like uh slate port city that's uh i should have

[01:11:23] sing them all i want the whole soundtrack

[01:11:27] it might have been also like time in which i played this right like very uh an age in which i

[01:11:41] absorbed a lot of this but just like the music no keep going the background this is a great story

[01:11:47] it really stuck the music just really stuck in i like all these like these tones and all these guys

[01:11:56] sorry that's why i put my music in post-production yeah

[01:12:00] but just like only acapella here just like what you're saying aaron i feel like when we think about

[01:12:05] any of these towns we can like hear the music like we know the sound of slate port we know the sound

[01:12:10] of like fall arbor town the pokemon center like all that music just like sticks with us so much

[01:12:14] uh lily cove city lily cove yes oh yeah like the only town theme i can remember by heart

[01:12:22] from previous generations it's probably just lavender town because it's just creepy and fucking weird

[01:12:27] gen 3 i remember yep slate port i can remember almost every route not by number i guess so i

[01:12:35] fucking lied because the numbers are nonsensical but new bark town that's definitely route 102 if i'm not

[01:12:41] mistaken i would say like um like new bark town is maybe my favorite like first town music in any game

[01:12:47] yeah um in no small part because it does like uh when it does that uh thing um it does a beat skip

[01:12:54] but it's like

[01:12:58] it's like oh it's like stops for like just a second you're like

[01:13:04] i will give a shout out to little root though i love little roots uh um sorry yeah little root

[01:13:09] sorry little roots in gen 3 that's my favorite i said new bark town is uh gen 2 so yeah little

[01:13:14] root is the one i just mentioned with the beat skip yeah that's right yeah yeah so you guys were on the

[01:13:19] same yeah we were there we were we got this we got there connected but music music all around is so

[01:13:23] good how do you guys feel about the kind of enhanced or changed versions for oris you know it's a little

[01:13:30] more orchestrated uh obviously higher fidelity does that still hit the same way or is it just those gba

[01:13:35] like sound bites that just are that are the nostalgia for your ears i can't remember the oris versions at

[01:13:41] all dude right now my mind won't stop playing the ruby and sapphire battle theme so that's literally

[01:13:47] all that i can think about right now

[01:13:57] that might be the one that i hear in my dreams yes now you will you know when you turned your

[01:14:02] your plate too much and you turned your game boy off you can still kind of hear it as you're going

[01:14:06] to sleep i hear battle music and it's like that's when i should have known i should have been diagnosed

[01:14:11] with things as i fall asleep i hear battle at least we don't have the like one health beat constant

[01:14:17] beep anymore like at least that's not a thing god thank god i like how gen 5 incorporated it though

[01:14:24] that was at least really cool yeah for sure absolutely i think that honestly the music uh

[01:14:31] in the originals with the like that like bit tune yeah type so iconic yeah you know there's there's a lot

[01:14:40] of nostalgia there for sure but i think that it's something that is like a almost like a genre in a

[01:14:46] way of like gaming music that is i think a little um underappreciated or like overlooked for like

[01:14:54] oh orchestra or stuff like that i think there there actually is a whole kind of type of music that is

[01:15:00] really good um that's there i i think oris did a good job of translating most of the music

[01:15:06] i think that it was like i will say after you know hour 200 or so it's getting a little little stale

[01:15:14] a little stale and you know the volume came down and i watched the office so uh but like you know

[01:15:23] it's just yeah it uh you know i think it's okay it's really i mean pokemon music in general has always

[01:15:30] been yeah really good oh gosh yeah even even if you want to say like the games haven't you know

[01:15:38] hit the same or whatever the music always does i mean area area zero is some of the best pokemon

[01:15:43] music for a long time blew my socks off she's so good it was like what are you doing please calm down

[01:15:51] calm down pump the brakes you've already sold me i was it was i was like how in this game that can

[01:16:00] barely run doesn't know how to tie its own shoes and falls all over itself you're gonna make the

[01:16:07] last area this freaking cool yeah how dare you so how dare you so good yeah and the ending is so good

[01:16:14] and i feel like there's a lot a lot of that too with with this and i think like i said i think a lot

[01:16:19] and the nostalgia does carry that with that kind of like eight or the chip toony kind of music to it

[01:16:25] um i i agree with you i do think they did a good job in oris with the kind of orchestrated versions

[01:16:29] of that but there's just something about the game boy advance music that just hits it's so good i

[01:16:34] think with me like the beauty of like the handheld era of pokemon is that it's intentionally like small

[01:16:40] but everything feels grand and when like it's matching the the the aesthetic of like the game boy

[01:16:45] advance like it just feels like it's much more complimentary to the thing like um junichi masuda

[01:16:51] uh directed uh this game like he did the music for the original games and he did a lot of the music

[01:16:56] for um this game as well but he directed pokemon ruby and sapphire and like i think like just the

[01:17:03] fact like they have the composer like working and like that like director mode because he was also

[01:17:07] the programmer of the original pokemon game so he's like literally like married to the hardware

[01:17:10] knows how it all works like front to back yeah like that just like makes it so much more intimate

[01:17:15] like how the music is incorporated into the games and like the later generations don't really have

[01:17:19] that like relationship yeah which isn't to say like the music's bad now no not by any means like i

[01:17:24] said generation five like there's so much cool stuff with the music and everything but i do just think

[01:17:28] like that sauce has been lost because of the transition to 3d and everything getting much more

[01:17:33] literally larger yeah yeah and like i i think it's it also doesn't help with things like like

[01:17:39] scarvy right it has that like larger than life kind of uh music but then the game just doesn't

[01:17:45] reflect it right so now you're now you're now you're having conflict with your your music

[01:17:49] feeling grand but now your game not feeling that that same way yeah definitely and i would say like

[01:17:56] the incorporation though of the battle music and then in the gym battles and then like the claps

[01:18:03] from the stadium and stuff like that like incorporating that so good it did capture that feeling so well of

[01:18:09] like talking about like pairing these things um together but yeah i think probably outside like

[01:18:15] a couple like early generations it's pretty rare now that the kind of like i don't know like the

[01:18:22] symmetry or the kind of like cohesion between those two things coming together matches that well and

[01:18:29] you know it'd be nice to come back but um you know i mean i just i just think about like like the

[01:18:36] legendary counters in in this game too like the requesa battle like all of those like the the tracks

[01:18:40] that accompany it are so like like he was saying just like so grand like going up to the top of the

[01:18:46] tower and encountering requesa and like having that track play it's like this is a big deal like this is

[01:18:51] something important that i'm doing right now and like the environment is reflecting that too it's crazy

[01:18:57] hell yeah that's pretty much it for all the stuff that the game did new in that generation and

[01:19:02] everything before we get to our favorite pokemon and uh into the closing and all that good stuff

[01:19:08] should we take an ad break let's do it do it take an ad all right we'll be right back

[01:21:55] podcast okay so so foldable phones right they're the future and everything jared's got one he's got a

[01:22:06] foldable phone they're pretty sweet what if i were to tell you uh uh i haven't thought of a name of a

[01:22:11] company yet but we've got a foldable phone that has more than one fold it's basically an accordion

[01:22:17] it's the foldable accordion phone it's so it's got 17 folds each fold it's just this one giant ass

[01:22:25] screen when you fold it all out imagine all of the uh the pokemon pocket tcg you could play on this

[01:22:32] motherfucker yes you sold us i'm here now i mean it'll be packs you can open with all of these screens

[01:22:40] you're having all these folds fuck all the youtubes you could watch on that oh man i have a subway

[01:22:45] surfers on one screen awesome subway surfer on 17 screens gen z needs this this is actually great you

[01:22:55] know and i'm really glad that someone is finally really thinking about the younger generation and

[01:23:01] their adhd exactly they need it absolutely it's not the adderall i need i think i need more screens

[01:23:08] my eyes hurt they literally burn it's not from the screens though it's because of the lack of screens

[01:23:15] one more screen bro just one more screen

[01:23:18] yeah just had i've had like a optical migraine for approximately 75 days but i know it's not because

[01:23:26] of the screens the accordion phone yeah they've like solves those problems they've got an else uh

[01:23:32] they've got a blue led uh reducer in the screen so it couldn't possibly be that it's made to not

[01:23:40] not destroy your eyes after prolonged use uh cool thing about this phone when it's all folded out

[01:23:48] you could you you could put anything on it and use it as like a tray or a plate you could eat off of

[01:23:53] it if you want to it's extra durable huge it's isn't and it's long enough to do like a like a sushi

[01:23:59] conveyor belt or surfboard what the fuck am i talk about am i on time are we yeah well did i make it on time

[01:24:10] we just started the ad break we're talking about a foldable phone but it's got 17 folds so it's like

[01:24:15] an accordion and that's another thing too you can play it like an accordion like when you play it

[01:24:18] it's got an app that goes where did the accordion originate was it italy maybe ex interior jared

[01:24:27] was it italy or exterior or fuck where did the accordion come from oh man probably some sick

[01:24:35] fuck oh shit no no it's sponsored like you don't want to know the company the company is the

[01:24:42] the government of the country it originated from and it's you know part of their marketing strategy to

[01:24:49] accord accordionis the accordion so it's a german instrument so oh yeah oh i don't want i don't

[01:24:58] want to know what this instrument was up to

[01:24:59] they have a good track record being real friendly with people yeah but they should connect us it's

[01:25:05] like that volkswagen commercial that came out like over the super bowl a couple years ago where

[01:25:09] it's like weird you skipped over 1930s and 1940s why was it you see hitler playing his

[01:25:17] fucking accordion phone his accordion phone 1946 was a great year for volkswagen and the accordion

[01:25:27] jerry you just popped in what the what the fuck what hey what do you have to say about the uh the

[01:25:32] accordion phone it's the accordion phone is probably the greatest invention that's ever happened in

[01:25:37] mankind as far as i'm concerned i mean if you look at the things that have happened in mankind like

[01:25:44] there's the wheel i mean sure pales in comparison to the accordion phone but like there's the well i mean

[01:25:51] the printing press is is fine i mean it did create fake news eventually but uh you did get around

[01:25:57] that fair enough but you know the accordion phone didn't hurt nobody except for when you know if

[01:26:02] hitler had something to do with hurt a couple of people um but uh it's good i endorse it and i'm

[01:26:09] here on time to prove yeah stamp of approval on time as always i'm here to endorse it i mean that's

[01:26:16] the only reason why i showed up i i felt it i was like someone somewhere in this fucking universe

[01:26:20] is talking with a goddamn accordion phone i gotta get yeah it's an ad break so i got my ass in here

[01:26:27] to make sure that the folks know the accordion phone is the new way fuck the cybershruck

[01:26:33] fuck tesla fuck all that stuff it's the accordion fucking elon couldn't come up with that

[01:26:39] shit no way it's too way too advanced for him if he came over the accordion phone to be like here's

[01:26:44] the fucking polygon phone and it would be just like a fucking it would look like yeah it would

[01:26:49] look like a fucking code a dnd dice it would just look like it only has a screen

[01:26:55] i don't know you could half a screen

[01:26:58] the other half of where normally be has an x on it yeah it's like he releases the ds and it doesn't

[01:27:03] have the touch screen it only has the top screen the one s doesn't even have a screen it just has

[01:27:07] buttons oh dude i figured out a new cool use for the the accordion phone as well too so so you hold

[01:27:15] one side and it's kind of like a lightsaber you just go watch and then like all the other screens fall

[01:27:19] out and then you can use like a sword or like a like a blunt weapon if you want to man if you would

[01:27:25] have come into this into this call with like a prototype i would have been blown away that would

[01:27:29] have i would have stood up and went like i have one oh there it is it's not folded out yet you don't

[01:27:35] gotta keep it it is i just can't i can't really i can't show like the the prototype is not ready

[01:27:40] for like you're not you know nobody in this call is ready for this like nobody is ready for me to

[01:27:45] like i just got off the phone with amy klobuchar she wants to order 50 million

[01:27:49] no no no no no no no no no no no no no no it's right now it's like seeing the face of god for the

[01:27:54] first time your your brain can't can't even begin to comprehend yeah it's just like what the

[01:27:59] fuck and you start spazzing out it's a biblically accurate phone the main i think the main selling

[01:28:07] point is like you don't actually open like new tabs or apps you just like fold it into a new

[01:28:12] screen and you're just like let me open facebook on the fifth day let there be 17 fucking screens

[01:28:18] aaron i don't want to alarm you but there's a man behind you

[01:28:24] interior jared don't worry that's that's our backup jerry that's fine

[01:28:29] good i'm glad to see how i've been fucking replaced just because i wasn't on time for

[01:28:33] the accordion phone i replaced you i'm sorry we explained that at the beginning yeah beth is acting

[01:28:37] as as impromptu jerry she she's already filled us in on all the goings on with you and greg and uh

[01:28:45] so accordion phone though right that's it i don't have anything else thanks for sponsoring our show

[01:28:53] thanks accordions for sponsoring our show

[01:29:05] still better than better help like at least i don't know what this

[01:29:08] i don't know what this accordion was doing in world war ii

[01:29:12] i don't know what the accordion was doing but i know that i know what he's doing now for me

[01:29:17] and it's great it's subway surfers oh man fuck that game so much though oh

[01:29:24] like was that game or temple run even any good at all anyways at all

[01:29:31] i just i liked playing temple run at the time i couldn't lie it was good yourself

[01:29:35] it just feeds you dopamine

[01:29:38] it was the hit it was the hit you're getting from the temple run

[01:29:41] i was a 15 year old with undiagnosed adhd i don't know what you're saying

[01:29:44] this is great idol slayer if you want those dopamine hits and a game that's actually kind

[01:29:50] of fun idol slayer aaron once again i don't want to alarm you but this man is now handling cats

[01:29:55] yeah there's like there's like 50 cats i'm just kidding there's only two cats in here but

[01:29:59] oh it's like hey fake jerry put those cats down

[01:30:02] did you call him fake jerry get his ass to attack him jerry's talking ship

[01:30:10] that's that's great i mean i can only can't i can only carry six cats at a time before the rest

[01:30:13] of them get sent to my computer for some reason

[01:30:16] can't handle all this

[01:30:18] pussy

[01:30:20] there it is oh man now and now we go on to our favorite pokemon the part jerry is going to hate

[01:30:27] the fucking most because glad i showed up for this i have favorite pokemon i don't know why i

[01:30:33] didn't get invited to do this podcast emerald is literally my favorite fucking pokemon i've

[01:30:39] ever played i told you and you were like i have game of the year stuff going on i can't do it

[01:30:44] i'll show you the message i invited you and you said no i've never played emerald in my life

[01:30:49] that doesn't mean that everybody settle down that doesn't mean that i've never played a pokemon game

[01:30:55] i have played you barely play i played red multiple times

[01:31:00] red there were so many times that like jerry like starts a pokemon game and then text me and

[01:31:06] dragon is like oh my god and we're like yay and then it's like gone done never brought up because

[01:31:12] the reason is like i love gen one i grew up i had both of those i had red and blue i fucking love them

[01:31:18] but then like so many other things came out at that time for game boy and game boy color and

[01:31:23] shit and i was just like i'm just gonna move on with my life and then the literally the next thing

[01:31:27] that i fully got into was pokemon uh what was that really bad one that just came out scarlet and

[01:31:33] violet yeah i was like hey this is really cool and then i was like wow this game is really

[01:31:37] fucking broken

[01:31:42] to be so gosh i i saw a screenshot of like xenoblade chronicles x and then like pokemon

[01:31:48] scarlet and violet and house like oh yeah i saw that the same engine please tell me that's not the

[01:31:53] same engine no xenoblade chronicles x and then the other one was a switch game and it's awful

[01:31:58] also led it's painful because legends arceus and xenoblade chronicles 3 came out within like the

[01:32:06] same like within a year of scarlet and violet on the same system and i don't understand why scarlet

[01:32:13] can't run i don't get it why did they do this it's i just think that in my humble list of opinions

[01:32:19] scarlet and violet had the potential to be like the one of the best pokemon games absolutely but because

[01:32:26] it cannot run well and things just like drop off and how poorly poorly it just oh my god certain i

[01:32:35] get no i don't notice frame rate drops usually i got nauseous you notice them when they're like 16

[01:32:41] when it looks like a fucking microsoft powerpoint and you're just trying to catch a pokemon picture

[01:32:45] show yeah like the i genuinely got ill because the frame rate was so all over the place and

[01:32:53] i think that it's like because of that you have to like say objectively it's the worst pokemon game

[01:32:58] yeah i think everyone has opinions about pokemon but they all run decently okay and is it is the

[01:33:06] opinion that it's bad based on the performance alone because i like i like the style of that game

[01:33:12] yeah i've always wanted a game where i'm just like i'm running around i'm just like look at that

[01:33:17] fucking pokemon just whipping fucking pokemon balls at them throwing balls at them until it

[01:33:21] fucking dies that's how you catch them right you don't you don't do anything you just like see

[01:33:25] wait them they're all dead they're all dead who could have done this no it wasn't it wasn't

[01:33:31] just performance the world it's funny in the very beginning someone was like and here's pal day and

[01:33:35] you're like what it's just like it looks like baloney so glad i mean i know there's hills and stuff but somehow

[01:33:42] it still looks like if hills is our bottom line we need to reassess how we like it has hills

[01:33:48] it does and i you know the thing that i i always found really funny i remember i hopped on uh

[01:33:53] bill's podcast one time gaming and collecting and his sister was talking about how she tried so hard to

[01:34:01] like the game but she just remembers there was a point in time where she was really trying to catch

[01:34:06] this one pokemon and she finally found it and it was like on a cliff side and the whole time the fight

[01:34:11] was happening the pokemon was just slowly like moving away toward the edge of the cliff and then

[01:34:17] eventually just like fell off and the fight like ended i was doing a fight in pokemon violet because

[01:34:25] this year because i have a problem so even though these are crap games i bought both oh yeah no i still

[01:34:30] i don't like them but i'm like i played like a hundred hours of it so it's fine and i had oh

[01:34:36] my god i can't i had like um small live or something and i was fighting something and then small just fell

[01:38:55] someone was like if i was ever trapped on a stranded island and i had to choose what pokemon to bring

[01:40:38] because like is the belt part of its skin that's always the thing are the clothes built in

[01:40:44] is it the macho brace or is that is that not what what came first the macho brace or the the machoke

[01:40:52] yeah like our other macho braces like accessories from dead machokes like is there like a hunting

[01:40:57] thing like how people hunt elephants for their ivory is machoke just a title yeah it is not the

[01:41:04] macho brace heavyweight champion in the world i want to be a machoke man um uh all right yeah

[01:41:11] yeah my my she wants to machoke me this is why jerry doesn't show up to pokemon conversation

[01:41:21] talking about choking his chicken oh my god sorry dude go ahead my sixth phase right uh anyway one

[01:41:28] is a chicken blaziken blaziken's good blaziken i just feel so attached to that pokemon sky uppercut

[01:41:34] rules amazing i love that it can learn flying type moves and also like fighting and fire type moves

[01:41:41] it's just versatile it's great i love that just kicks the shit out of people and it's a it's just

[01:41:45] a karate chicken amazing i think one of the first gen 3 pokemon reveal too like blaziken was was i

[01:41:50] think one of the first oh yeah because it felt like the charizard in the anime yeah and like the

[01:41:54] end of the gen 2 anime yeah that's bullshit i love agron i love how versatile its moveset is

[01:42:00] incredible he can learn surf dude boy yeah uh agron can learn surf yeah he can learn thunder he can

[01:42:08] learn we're learning blizzard i knew he had a pretty wild like a wide versatile moveset i didn't know

[01:42:13] he can learn surf yeah dude he looks cool he can do anything he's like he looks cool he can do

[01:42:19] anything he's like uh morgan freeman basically he's yeah i'm gonna name my agron morgan freeman now

[01:42:25] did you say like morgan freeman because he looks cool and can do everything yeah morgan freeman looks

[01:42:30] cool and can do anything he can do anything i don't know if he looks cool he looks like morgan freeman

[01:42:37] morgan freeman looks cool i don't know what that means it's like an old dude i guess he's an old

[01:42:41] i feel like morgan freeman's always been like 62 years old he's just born that way yeah some

[01:42:48] benjamin button shit he managed his like old person spots on his face man those are liver spots he has

[01:42:54] a disease it looks like pretty like star freckles he's doing like the gen z freckles over his like

[01:43:02] getting those tattooed freckles i would like to age into like iconic don't make fun of morgan

[01:43:08] freeman sparkle and shine i'm i'm not i'm not i'm not gonna call morgan freeman uncool he played god

[01:43:14] like i just like gotta respect all religions i gotta respect all religions so yeah now tiktok uses a

[01:43:19] likeness to his voice for everything yeah not cool tiktok that's god yeah that's a that's i believe a

[01:43:28] golden calf it's an idol he can't do that um this next pick is good i like this yeah uh i remember

[01:43:34] when i was seven years old i saw absol for the first time and i was like that's the coolest thing

[01:43:38] i've ever seen in my entire life bro that's an edgy like preteen i was like this is and it's got the

[01:43:43] hair over one eye too dude where are you just like right there just built in oh yeah please navidad

[01:43:50] the shadow of the hedgehog was a big day for me so like you can imagine that i love absol uh

[01:43:56] crawdon rules yep oh god i'm remember him in the show it was so quarter fish and then he evolves

[01:44:02] into crawdon't actually so as volved as pokemon i'm sorry this we won't get into that but corefish

[01:44:07] need to evolve that's a whole other podcast we need to we need to have a anime oh yes trauma

[01:44:14] that happen in the anime that just bother you we're talking about trauma dump and anime i mean i read

[01:44:22] berserk this year and i felt like i needed to re-enlist a fucking therapist after i have a friend

[01:44:27] who keeps telling me because he's reading berserk too he's like bro you need to read berserk it's

[01:44:31] amazing and i don't like it's one of the most fucked things i've ever experienced like ever sorry

[01:44:36] not to derail this go on talk you're fine you're fine no like i get it like if the one thing to

[01:44:40] interrupt it's berserk right yeah disable eye uh because why not right yep why not it's not on my list

[01:44:48] why not is not on my list but fly gone because i'm a stereotype i love it dang no stereotype fly

[01:44:56] gone flygons be flygons flygons one thing i fucking hate about flygon is i wish they would have given

[01:45:03] him like maybe a better ability than levitate because we're dragging bug please i will die on this

[01:45:13] hill flygons awesome though i fucking love flygon he could he could be so good could be

[01:45:20] sure good and i want to i want a good bug type low kicks was cool low kicks in in scarvey was really

[01:45:27] cool what are you guys talking about i if i remember correctly scyther fucks oh yeah scyther

[01:45:33] it's his order scissor cross that's good dude pincer oh well i'm talking about competitive

[01:45:39] that's true that's true i would like to see more bug type pokemon oh yeah you got you and greg

[01:45:47] talked about that on one of our recent podcasts how there is literally no good competitive grass

[01:45:53] pokemon or bug pokemon no no bugs grass is like i thought you said grass too used to not actually be

[01:45:59] that great but has like a couple rillaboom oh it's huge i just bet on a three-way parlay with scyther

[01:46:05] oh my god

[01:46:09] yo just slap an eevee light on scyther you're good to go you're good

[01:46:13] not to be that but actually an eevee light cypher cypher actually did so good in a recent

[01:46:19] that's why i said that doing tool wing b oh it was so good i might not be ruined if anyone if

[01:46:26] anyone has friends that also know like watch bdc please send them my way i've been trying to talk to

[01:46:32] jerry and greg and they're like yeah it warms my heart to see beth in her element here because

[01:46:36] a lot of times when this exact conversation is happening i just go

[01:46:41] yeah you got it take the jesus take the wheel morgan freeman take the wheel

[01:46:45] yes morgan freeman's freckles take the wheel

[01:46:52] here the elevator music start playing jerry's head that's like a a lot of the time though that

[01:46:58] that's a thing i'm playing a game like i'll play a rpg then beth's like oh my god did you like the

[01:47:03] story i'm like like i'm just like i don't i'm surface level everything that's why i judge my pokemon

[01:47:10] by how cool they look i mean that holds true that holds true

[01:47:14] vibes are the biggest qualifier speaking of vibes

[01:47:18] jerry i will say yes yeah so my swampert swampert's my again favorite starter love that guy mudkip is

[01:47:26] great and swampert has been a mainstay mega swampert he got super jacked for the remakes so that's

[01:47:32] great uh cray dilly cray dilly is one that i've learned recently yeah yeah super bulky like really

[01:47:39] good defensive type pokemon grass rock is a cool typing too i just kind of ignore and forget about

[01:47:45] the the fossils in that generation but recently i'm doing like nuzlocke and stuff like that i've used

[01:47:49] that cray dilly and love it such a great pokemon i love jirachi i think a lot of it is because of the

[01:47:54] the movie i think the movie jirachi is in it's like one of my favorites and very nostalgic for me i

[01:47:59] remember watching a lot as a kid cacnea as well i think cacnea has a lot of attachment to the anime

[01:48:03] and watching james's little cacnea i don't love cacturn's design as much just because like cacnea is

[01:48:09] so cute he's a little little tiny round cactus adorable he's a little boy cacturn looks like

[01:48:14] he's in the water supply

[01:48:18] he's been hanging around flint

[01:48:22] works for the nestle corporation or something he's like a pinkerton

[01:48:30] oh man uh we we heard the love for torquil torquil is great torquil we stand torquil here he is such

[01:48:36] the best turtle and then swallow so it's one of my favorite like like generational birds and it gets

[01:48:40] guts which is a cool ability to you know boosting its uh attack if it's it has a status ability so

[01:48:45] swell is great and can't it learn can't it learn a couple of fighting moves like

[01:48:50] counter or one of those i'm pretty sure i know um uh star after gets like close combat and things

[01:48:56] like that too but i don't know about swallow not bad yeah shout out to jaden animations i love

[01:49:02] jaden animations swallow in her her her nuzlocke animated video those animated nuzlocke are so fun

[01:49:09] to watch they're so entertaining yeah recommend for anybody who likes pokemon or nuzlocking or just

[01:49:16] really good animation in general animation is great now just to flex my uh my pokemon knowledge here

[01:49:22] for a second um okay so beth in your background i see one peek achoo yes um keifer is that a tree go

[01:49:31] that is damn okay jerry two for two all right all right amazing what pokemon is this that's a

[01:49:40] fucking clefairy you idiot come on no it's a ditto got it nailed it test me jerry what's your favorite

[01:49:49] pokemon like of all time all the time i know that you know asking your favorite gen three is a little

[01:49:54] too specific i think it's haunter oh good also creepy hands yeah and uh if you're wondering what

[01:50:02] haunter tastes like it's cotton candy oh that sounds good yeah dreams right he's like made out of he's

[01:50:09] made out of nightmares yeah it's fucking awesome he's made out of dreams and dreams nightmares but

[01:50:17] also it's so this is kind of a cop-out and kind of a cheat like haunter as a kid was always like oh dude

[01:50:24] that fucking pokemon yeah that's my jam purple like purple's my favorite color so like lots of things

[01:50:30] however when i fucking seen you two for the first time i was like that's frieza that's frieza in a

[01:50:37] fucking pokemon game like that is frieza and i was like well that's my favorite pokemon but like that's

[01:50:41] like fucking so many people's favorite pokemon just because he's like he's so classic and like i said

[01:50:46] looks like frieza too right yeah like they have literally the fucking same design like same colors

[01:50:52] like an amazing storyline character development oh i have no idea what is going on character i mean

[01:50:59] the first pokemon movie was it's strides and it's some of its themes it was covering for like a kid's

[01:51:04] movie super pod saga watches pokemon the first movie yeah let's do it let's do it i've never seen

[01:51:10] that movie i would do it we should we should do like a commentary over it like outside of it just

[01:51:18] being like a kid's like pokemon movie like some serious like real world themes that it tackles in a

[01:51:23] really good way which is wild bro the quote that youtube says in the end

[01:51:29] yeah tell me what are we fighting for

[01:51:34] the remake of slapping the shit out of each other oh it's so good

[01:51:38] i will if i will cry if you if you cry i'll fucking laugh

[01:51:47] oh man so overall thoughts pokemon emerald rules gen 3 rules i agree yep let's uh let's start getting

[01:52:04] the hell out of here man it's we've been going for about two hours yeah it's been a while yeah

[01:52:08] we've been going for a bit this is the this is the part of the show no jerry you do it you're here

[01:52:11] now you do it we're doing random recommended games go oh yeah my favorite part random recommended

[01:52:17] games aaron hit the thing random recommended games yeah this is the uh the saddest part of the

[01:52:26] episode because we have to leave our listeners behind but we always leave them with some gifts

[01:52:30] it's the most generous part of the episode where we tell you some random recommended games by none

[01:52:37] other than us and the guests so uh aaron fuck both of us let's hear what the guests have to

[01:52:44] recommend to the listeners who wants to start beth wants to start go ahead beth

[01:52:50] i did the thing where i try not to make eye contact i saw i saw that

[01:52:56] i mean can someone do it first yeah i'll do mine first because mine's like relevant at least to the

[01:53:01] time of recording uh i put marvel rivals down here yeah it's the new i've heard a lot about it

[01:53:08] it's a new hotness with all like the the kind of overwatch you know hero shooter kind of game 6v6

[01:53:14] focuses on marvel characters it's so much fun i i love it i'm a big overwatch person there's a lot

[01:53:19] of similarities between the two i think marvel rivals does a lot of fun with that kind of gameplay

[01:53:25] and like the overwatch style gameplay and everything it's great it's so much fun i i'm addicted to it

[01:53:31] right now i've put like 15 hours into it already it's only been here for like a couple of days so i i

[01:53:37] i i don't know if it's it's just recent recent by recency bias or if it is really good but i'm at

[01:53:44] least having a great time with it and if you do like hero shooters and if you like overwatch you have

[01:53:48] to try marvel rivals because it's it's a good time i've heard a lot of really really positive things

[01:53:53] about it and like yeah i'm also within a space of people that typically hate hero shooters and even

[01:53:59] those people are like this is very fucking good you guys gonna check this out well they're also just

[01:54:03] like not they're not they do have like a competitive tournament already but it's almost

[01:54:07] like the game's not taking itself too seriously too like characters are just ridiculously broken and

[01:54:12] they're like yeah like you get to have fun with it like jeff the shark is just kind of overly broken

[01:54:16] and just can just can team wipe a full team and it's just like they're leaning in and having fun with

[01:54:21] that so that's what's cool about it yeah i'm like playing as like penny parker right now and i can

[01:54:25] just like drop landmines and nobody can see and it's the game basically plays itself for me i don't

[01:54:30] understand how this character made it in the game but i'm gonna keep playing i saw a fun quote that

[01:54:34] said like if every character is broken no one's broken and that's exactly how it feels like everyone

[01:54:38] feels like they can they can do something and that's that's so fun to do yeah yeah i've heard really good

[01:54:44] stuff about it i mean matt storm was just talking about how good it was on our other podcast just now

[01:54:49] and like i'm not a hero shooter type like it's not it's definitely not my type of game yeah and i

[01:54:56] think that the the whole stage of hero shooters is has been savagely oversaturated for a very long

[01:55:02] time but everything that i hear about this is like no no this one's actually pretty good like this is

[01:55:09] fun and i think that's the key it's fun yeah it is fun and overwatch like needs some competition

[01:55:14] because like people that are in the overwatch community and play overwatch like blizzard has

[01:55:18] kind of been just like chafting them for for a while but there's there's there's not yeah

[01:55:23] blizzard bad who would have thought uh but like you said there's not really any kind of competent

[01:55:28] like alternatives other than that and marvel rivals has kind of seemed like the first one to come in

[01:55:33] and actually be like an interesting and incompetent alternative to overwatch that's good that's

[01:55:38] awesome yeah and it's free and it's free as they should be it's literally it's free to play

[01:55:48] ps5 x but it's everywhere you can play it everywhere it's cross play again as it should be as the lord

[01:55:54] intended yes as morgan himself had intended he gave one of his freckles and just laid it on

[01:56:00] the development team's table and was like you may have this and then they were like you got it buddy

[01:56:07] we'll make it work yeah it's free so it like costs nothing other than your time to go check it out so i

[01:56:12] definitely recommend just checking it out hell yeah keifer what would you randomly recommend date

[01:56:18] y'all i just came off like a month-long bellatro bender nice i had it got you too huh this game

[01:56:25] is so good i had to uninstall it because it was taking up too much of my life i put in 50 hours in two

[01:56:31] weeks that's a lot of block i figured out how to make steam cloud work on my phone that's how much i was

[01:56:39] playing this game there's a mobile version right there is but like i had i have the steam version so

[01:56:44] i was just like all right i think the next step is that you just buy the mobile this i had to

[01:56:49] install another game yeah i i am trying to move on but um i love it and it's great uh worth the the 15

[01:57:01] bones definitely like i you know i'm a i'm a cynic about the game awards but it's it's nice that it

[01:57:06] earned its spot as like one of the game like it is it's incredible it's like it it highly recommend

[01:57:12] it ruined my life put that on the fucking game box please yeah highly recommend ruin my life my

[01:57:20] my co-host also put like 50 to 60 hours into this and he told me i should check it out but just like

[01:57:25] everyone that like you should check it out is like secret like don't do it don't yeah i've also i've i

[01:57:32] get the exact same vibes from everybody i've ever talked to they're like oh my god this game is amazing

[01:57:36] they're like it's like i i haven't played it in like 15 minutes and i'm like yeah uh i don't know

[01:57:42] if i want i don't know if i want this trade one addiction for another i gave up fentanyl for it

[01:57:49] i used to fold in half on fentanyl now i just fold my good trade off

[01:57:54] you should go with bellagio over fentanyl i don't know my uh not a doctor maybe do a little combo and see

[01:58:01] how that goes no one didn't have green card i went back to bellagio sir sir would you like to fold

[01:58:08] your deck or fold in half i'll take both please thank you speaking of full oh fuck

[01:58:18] did you have a did you have a game or do you want me to buy some time no no i i do i just wanted to

[01:58:25] know the appropriate amount of time to talk go for it the floor is yours i uh i say play dice

[01:58:32] omancer it's kind of been my recommendation you say you say dice omancer i know he loves dice

[01:58:39] it is a uh deck builder game you know what aaron can only get so erect

[01:58:46] so it is a hand drawn oh my god

[01:58:50] hand drawn uh deck builder and there's the kind of gimmick though is that you have a dice that can uh

[01:58:58] if you roll like the numbers on cards and again with enemies and stuff so you learn immediately that

[01:59:04] you're given this dice and there's like enemies will have like two health bars and they'll be like

[01:59:09] 40 and 20 or whatever well you can get your dice and then play the dice card and then roll on the

[01:59:17] enemies hp so now they have two hp because you rolled a two on your dice and you can and it's

[01:59:23] really good and um it has a class based thing too so you can have different loadouts on your run

[01:59:31] you're about to just i'm just trying to sell crack to an addict right now i just bought this by the

[01:59:36] way just letting you know oh my god it's so good i'm playing this i played so i i played it for

[01:59:44] 20 something 20 ish hours or whatever but like as in sleep awake sleep awake like i was like

[01:59:50] obsessed that's crazy i i did i beat it and i was like okay i need to take a break before i go back in

[01:59:58] because when you beat it the first time more class options unlock and stuff like that so anyway

[02:00:03] there's a lot of options and there's like a class there's a skill tree so you can get better

[02:00:09] oh my gosh you sold me already yeah aaron have you hit the purchase button yet no i'm debating on

[02:00:17] it though well i i love i love slay the spire slay the spire is probably one of my favorite games and

[02:00:22] this looks this is very slay the spire coded and i was like i'll yeah the developer is called ultra

[02:00:27] piggy studio games sold it's so good i like i'm not kidding ste uh i went i like turned on steam

[02:00:37] because i was playing crime scene cleaner um and when i finished with that i was trying to look what

[02:00:41] other stuff was just on like sale for the autumn sale and scene was just like have this precious gem

[02:00:48] and i was like thank you it's like dice rolls and and oh it's so good man you went deep into crime

[02:00:56] scene cleaner with me the other night like yeah i like you were like i've been playing this crime

[02:01:01] scene cleaner like oh yeah what's that like and you just like went and i was like a little inebriated

[02:01:07] when we were talking and i was just like this is whoa no way this is fucking blowing my mind what

[02:01:14] do you mean just betrayal clean no i was just like vibing playing ufo 50 and beth is just like telling

[02:01:23] me this insane story and i'm like what the fuck movie is this and you're like no it's crime scene cleaner

[02:01:30] that's crazy man ufo 50 is another one i need to check out i've heard you guys i heard you guys

[02:01:34] talk about ufo 50 i've never mentioned it aaron i can't i just i just bought dice of answer why

[02:01:39] didn't you buy ufo 50 wait you don't own ufo 50 no but i've heard so many people and you guys

[02:01:45] talk about it's on the list and i and i i it's on the list please please please please

[02:01:53] jerry keeps doing this thing where he's like hey do you like uh do you want to hang out and

[02:01:58] talk for a little bit and i'm like okay we can jump on discord and then he's just like i just

[02:02:02] gotta show you this game and it's like it's always ufo 50 it's not like a new 50 of them i can just be

[02:02:09] like i know you like this game if you're like no i'm like cool check this one out then but it's just

[02:02:15] like jerry it's been all year almost no i won't shut the fuck up

[02:02:23] hey beth uh what are you guys now beth let me ask you it's like

[02:02:28] how good is ufo 50 though yeah night manor a lot i think night manor is worth the purchase yeah

[02:02:39] night manor is fucking crazy avianos was really fun we had fun with that that's the one with our scout

[02:02:46] r.i.p moon cat no and moon cat no was funny because moon cat was the first thing jerry i was

[02:02:53] in the middle of playing it and i was like i don't think i can turn this off yeah and then we were just

[02:02:59] were like moon cat no constantly yeah and bad moon cat yeah moon cat bad yeah this game this game

[02:03:07] looks insane and i've only heard good things speaking of moon cat uh i threw on metal slug advance

[02:03:13] earlier today and that's really really good for a fucking metal slug game on game boy advance it

[02:03:19] plays a lot better than i thought it would it it feels just like a fucking neo geo game

[02:03:24] on game boy color like maybe the fucking audio gets a little wonky when you start introducing like

[02:03:29] 30 explosions at one time because the gba is like which the fuck one am i playing and like which one

[02:03:35] am i not so it gets real garbled there but other than that it plays really well there's no live

[02:03:41] system you have like a health bar so you can take more than one hit without dying is it just a remake

[02:03:47] of the first one i don't something else entirely it's something else entirely because there's different

[02:03:52] characters in there like you don't play as marco or the other ones there's different characters and

[02:03:57] you go from like um mission to mission to mission like you select them on the map and you can collect

[02:04:03] cards and shit as you go along pick up health pickups and you still like free hostages and get the

[02:04:09] power-ups shotgun enemy chaser rocket launcher shit like that metal slug advance it's good hell

[02:04:16] yeah i love metal slug metal looks great this looks awesome fun jerry do you have one i do um and guess

[02:04:23] what it ain't ufo 50 something else is it something else no it's not i mean that would have been easy

[02:04:31] to do that because there's 50 of them and i've i've now i think i beat like 26 of them now

[02:04:36] that's crazy yeah it's just the gift that keeps on giving but that's not my recommendation my

[02:04:41] recommendation is something that was recently gifted to me by none other than yours truly beth

[02:04:47] nine souls is fucking insane that game is fucking insane i can't believe it my backlog is already

[02:04:55] long enough stop i can't i cannot believe how good this game is like we recently had this conversation

[02:05:01] about how like okay i get it hollow knight good real fucking good silk song doesn't exist as far

[02:05:08] as i never i was like never get that game does not exist however don't do that is that i never

[02:05:15] understood was like i get it i like a souls like i like a metroidvania i like 2d games and i really like

[02:05:23] hollow knight but i still don't understand the absurd amount of hype behind silk song and the pedestal that

[02:05:31] hollow knight gets put up on and again this is coming from somebody that absolutely loves hollow

[02:05:35] night within 15 minutes of playing nine souls i was like this might be better than hollow knight and i

[02:05:43] played it for about an hour and a half and i was like i think this is better than hollow knight like

[02:05:48] it's fucking crazy and it has no right to be as disturbing as it is yep like within 15 minutes i was

[02:05:56] like what the fuck was that like beth did you see did you see what they did and like it changes and

[02:06:05] kind of flips it on its head and you're like oh i thought this was going to be like some like

[02:06:09] traditional like chinese kind of like mythology thing and it's it is not it is not that at all and

[02:06:16] the combat and everything is so good that it's it's almost like unbelievable that this is the same team

[02:06:24] that made even though they're good games detention or uh is it no uh devote yeah detention and devotion

[02:06:30] so it's by red candle who did both of those and yeah it's just it's fantastic i have been playing

[02:06:38] quite a bit it's the only thing besides silent hill that has been able to pull me away from ufo 50

[02:06:44] and metaphor wow that was hell yeah i mean that was well i uh just downloaded nine souls on game

[02:06:49] pass i got two games i have to there it is thanks a lot guys appreciate it yep there's my recommendation
